- In this episode I am riding to Cuenca, because I am in need of some good internet and get ready for the jungle for the next couple of days. On the way, I stop at Iglesia del Rocio, a stunning church built on the side of a mountain. There, I meet Maria, who tells me which area of Ecuador is not so safe to visit..

The conversation with the old women outside the church brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful lady. I think you amazed her a little. :-)
She's so cool. I got the impression that she's a sly, independent lady. Seemed like she saw herself in Noraly, and was impressed by her gall.
That ol' gal outside the church was just marvelous. She had some years behind her, but still beautiful. And I love her hat and how it was a part of her persona. Wonderful to see.

Soy de Guayaquil y te aseguro que nuestras olas de delincuencia son importadas desde Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, etc paises de nuestro alrededor que estan en bancarrota y quieren medrar con los dolares Ecuatorianos!! Gracias a la "astucia" de un expresidente que dio entrada libre a todos los exiliados que les apetecia llegar a lucrar de nuestro trabajo honrado! La costa ecuatoriana es muy grande!! GUAYAQUIL es solo una pequeña parroquia del Ecuador! Y aun asi es la mas productiva porque industrializa productos de la sierra y oriente ademas de su riqueza ictiológica,agrícola, florícola y turistica! Con eso el Ecuador entero ha permanecido a flote mucho tiempo. Por todo eso te pido no nos estigmatices a todos por unos cuantos delincuentes venidos de fuera!! Gracias por publicar las bellezas de mi pais que aunque es el mas pequeño de Sudamérica!! todavia tiene mucho que dar a los mas exigentes turistas del mundo! Te pido por favor que investigues un poco acerca de nuestra gastronomia, historia y geografia te llevaras muchas sorpresas agradable! Sobre todo por la famosa hospitalidad del costeño!!! A fin un comentario sensato en base a Guayaquil. Soy Guayaquileña con mucho orgullo, y me da mucha impotencia ver tantos comentarios negativos por unos cuantos que nos hacen quedar mal. El título considero esta mal colocado. Porque habla netamente de los paisajes de Cuenca, es una lástima que para acaparar la atención de sus seguidores haya tenido que emplear severendo título sin antes investigar. Excelente comentario.

así somos las personas de campo en Ecuador ,claro que también las de ciudad pero ellos andan ajedriados y tienen siempre el tiempo en cima .
Lo bueno de la Pandemia fue que muchos de ciudad volvieron a conectar con el campo se fueron a donde antiguamente sus bisabuelos ,padres habían vivido .

soy de guayaquil y me apena escuchar lo que dicen nuestros propios paisano, "Guayaquil, esa tierra es mala!!" que triste es saber que nos tienen asi y peor saber que es la verdad... y las autoridades siguen mintiendo.
excelente la recomendacion qu ete dio nuestra paisana, no vengas a Guayaquil, aqui la maldad esta en cada esquina y que horror seria que algo te pase, un cordial saludo y cuidate mucho.
Menos mal que no están siguiendo esta recomendación que me parece muy mala. Guayaquil no es tierra de gente mala. Concentra problemas sociales de todo el Ecuador por ser el Puerto Principal. Noraly habla de los problemas en la carcel de Guayaquil, pero sucedieron también en Cuenca y Latacunga. Que chevere que se salva Quito. AH cierto que la carcel la movieron a Latacunga!

Loved Cuenca....lived there for 4 months about 3 years ago before flying out of Guayaquil to Madrid and Europe. I live in Turkey now, but really miss S.A. and in particular Ecuador....would love to return one day...catch up with old friends etc....

I was born in Ecuador but have lived in the US most of my life. I am afraid to drive in Ecuador worse yet ride on a motorcycle, alone. You are brave and quite the adventurer! May God always watch over you and protect your path. Thank you for showing me my beautiful country

Te digo un par de cosas, cuando la gente te pita de manera "ligera" es para saludar, puedes respoder con un "pitido corto" es un gesto de cortesía, también si vas en carretera y alguien parpadea con las luces es para avisar que más adelante hay algún "inconveniente"

I'm a Cuencano immigrant. The mercado de las Flores is really wonderful. The whole area there in downtown is amazing.
I lived in Quito in 1980-1981 when I was a teenager. My family had just immigrated from Taiwan. Cuenca was a beautiful city. Later we moved to the US.
i remember walking this square. iwas impressed by the structures over there. it's even more beatyful at night with all the lights

I rode a dirtbike through equador along the coast in 99 on the way to Chile. Beautiful and didn’t seem sketchy. Nice bike and great trip, good to see people riding the highway.

Hello Noraly, have a good trip, regarding Maria's opinion, Ecuador is a safe country, including Guayaquil, the Ecuadorian coast is very beautiful, it has a lot of good food and fruits of all varieties. Maria has surely never traveled to the coast, her customs are very closed, that's why I know she has never traveled outside her community. maybe she talks like that because she watches the TV news which is very tabloid. Simply an amazing channel I happened to stumble upon. Saw a few of the recent videos and decided to start at the beginning of season 6 and it’s all marvelous! I’m currently on this episode and I had to comment about the conversation with Maria. How lovely you are and so very nice to everyone you encounter. It is the number 1 reason I watch, because of how sweet you are. Excellent channel, I will continue to finish this season and then I will start again at the very beginning. Can’t wait!! 😀

Love the conversation that you had with Maria. It highlights the basic humanity of a local Ecuadorian woman towards a traveler in her land. It's very touching and eye opening. The West for all it's wealth does not have this grace. As the saying goes about having too much pride ...Pride goes before the fall. Imagine how different would be the greeting towards an obvious foreigner traveling thru a remote part of the USA.
I like your chat with the old lady. She seems to be very heartful because she asked about your family and mother. Her face expression when you said they are in the Netherlands made me smile. What a nice lady (you both of course).

Ahhh, you finally made it to my city of Cuenca. Beautiful, huh? I traveled there in '13 and purchased a condo under contruction and moved there in '14 upon it's completion. It was located a 15 minute walk from the park and cathedral's. My buildings name was El Rocio, named after my builders mother's name. You mentioned WiFi, and before I left, I had high speed fiber optic installed in my building. It was super fast. I'm pleased you were able to have visited. Safe travels, and as always, rubber side down.

Aunque no se debería señalar que uno u otro lugar son peligrosos y por ende no se tendrían que visitar, sin embargo, estoy de acuerdo que nuestra ciudad de Guayaquil es, lamentablemente muy peligrosa actualmente. Pero Ecuador es mucho más y existen una infinidad de rincones que conocer.
Los de la sierra hablan mal de la costa, y en la costa hay serranos como caca de chivo, los mercados están llenos de indígenas y que bien que viven nadie les hace daño hasta echan sus raíces y esos hijos ya no quieren que les digan que son serranos, se recreen costeños
Si, desgraciadamente hay mucha gente ineducada que en busca de trabajo leegan a Guataquil...no encontraron lo que buscaban, I se quedaron a vivir en esa ciudad, luego se juntan con los mal hechores I cometen crimenes, mas que otra cosa, roban a turistas I locals por el hambre...a esto se unen los centros policiales que no hacen un buen trabajo para erradicar los males habitos, que conducen a la violence. PERO, NO HAY MAL QUE DURE CIEN ANOS, NI PUEBLO QUE LO AGUANTE.

Thanks so much for the tour of Cuenca ! The architecture is amazing and the stonework is incredible….even the pavers on the streets and sidewalks, and no trash or litter to be seen ! It looks so clean and beautiful compared to our filthy American cities with litter everywhere and homeless people on sidewalks . Ecuador definitely not looking like any third world country!!!
I live in Cuenca and it’s very clean. Ecuador is more of a developing country rather than Third World. People are cleaning the streets daily.

Cuenca is very different from Quito or Esmeraldas. Very clean and beautiful modern architecture.
