  • In this second part of my hectic day to reach Santa Fe in Panama, I luckily get some help from a horseman to get my motorcycle back up the stairs to the bridge. It had already been a long day of 8 hours of riding and I am exhausted!

    So many amusing comments about how to ride stairs, stand when crossing rivers, bike too underpowered to climb steep hills ... Noraly just did an 8 hour day in the jungles of Panama ... and found lodging ... and smiled the entire way. I for one am as entertained as I am proud of her. Folks who can only see as far as their monitor should keep their keyboards in a drawer. Peace!

      Norley's bike is definatly the right choice for her and what she's doing, And frankly she probably has way more experience than 99.999% of her commenters when it comes to adventure riding. I would personally go with a bigger more powerful bike but I'm also a guy and built like a sumo wrestler And once body mass difference is factored in probably would be pushing about the same power to weight and torque to weight ratios as norley's bike with her on it.

      You are right, she rode for 8 hours and found lodging and kept smiling. But that doesn't mean people are not allowed to give helpful and well intentioned advice. To throw in my two pennies of advice from my own off road trail riding experience it would be helpful to choose 2nd gear instead of 1st and keep the revs up and slip the clutch more. That way you are less likely to stall the engine. You play the clutch to control the speed rather than closing the throttle. No matter how experienced you may be, you should never be too proud to take good advice from your fellow bikers. Noone knows everything, we can all learn from eachother.

      Goes to show sometimes it's not the equipment but the rider and their determination that will make the difference. Imagine all these people living in these rural areas, those guys driving those vans on those roads that barely classify as roads. They're doing it regularly and those are not Land Rovers or Land Cruisers. I guess they get stuck often, but it's all about the never say die attitude as well. Noraly definitely has that..

      @PetrolJunkie 2 года назад +3

      While Norley is an accomplished rider, she still has a long way to go on her skills. I don't mean that as an insult but as an honest observation. I've literally ridden a much bigger and heavier bike up and downstairs fully loaded with field camping gear. Down isn't too bad, you mostly just have to keep the bike in the middle and control your speed using the rear brake. Up is much more challenging because now you have throttle and clutch control in addition to keeping your momentum and balance while steering. However, those stairs were more akin to a short steep hill if you can keep to the tracks which would actually make it easier. But, that is if you can keep the bike on track.
      It's called technical riding for a reason, it's all about rider skills. Just riding miles doesn't cut it, if you don't train and practice while continuing to challenge yourself you never build essential skills or maintain them. Some of those roads are far more technical than it looks on camera.
      There is a secondary factor at play here as well. Fear. Norley is rightfully fearful of injuring herself out in the middle of nowhere in a country where medical care is not the best, or may not even be accessible. That tempers much of what she does with heavy-handed caution. This is not a criticism, it's an honest observation. And to be frank about it, she's not at all wrong for how she approaches some of these obstacles given her skills level and fear levels.
      She's come a long way from the beginning of her channel skills wise. I'm confident that her skills will only grow as her confidence allows her to take on more challenges and greater risks.

      Love your videos Noraly! A word of advice? It's tiring, but try standing up on the pegs and being more aggressive (faster) It will stabilize the bike. This includes water crossings. This stuff is not easy. I've done little bits and pieces of this, but the way she soldiers on, often not knowing exactly where she is, in a strange country and culture, yet pulls through, always with that sense of adventure and that gorgeous smile and that lovely laugh! You, my dear young lady, are very, very impressive and as an old motorcyclist of 48 years, I thoroughly enjoy all your adventures. Thank you for the effort, and keep on smiling!!!!
