I think your rush to pull the tank before studying filming it , worked out to making this video the best I've seen while doing the least disassembly, and reinstall. Only thing that bugged the crap out of me was that you didn't clean much beyond the rotors ( which glad you did ) didn't mention checking out bushings for dry rot or damage. Respect for you my dude, you hit her with potential hero energy and still saw the shortest path to getting the tank out without breaking everything. You got my vote for career advancement and your chill attitude after all you've been through in the last 24-48 hrs is serial killer scary .
Great video and beautiful bugeye WRX. I am going to have to change the one valve on the top of my gas tank that has failed and I am dreading taking the tank out but after watching this it doesn't seem too bad of a job.
The work itself isn't too bad. Just be prepared to get really sweaty and covered in dirt and grime. The more rust there is the more of a pain it can become, but I hope everything goes well for you, good luck!
Thanks for the super helpful video. I can confirm this procedure will also work on a 98 WRX. Although at 26" elevation I had to lower the diff almost to the floor, which can be done if you remove both sets of retaining brackets for the handbrake cable.👌
just so ya know in the future. the gas tank actually has a pump in it designed to pump gasoline. you can put a hose on the outlet and apply 12 volts and effortlessly remove pretty much all the gasoline from the tank
Wao friend great video. I get to se a lot of video but not like yours!! I have a leak in my Subaru forester which l think is on the top by being roth. This will give me a good idea what to do! Thank you for that magistral video! God bless you!
Yea I knew the drain plugs were there. Honestly I was skeptical about how well they would seal when put back ... I didn't want to create a new fuel leak while fixing another. Probably an unfounded concern but I knew I could do it without removing them

Lol wtf dude you must really like him
I’m going to have to do this same job. Glad I found this video. Thank you for filming this.
Hope everything goes well!
I replaced the tank this way today and let me tell you I’m so happy I didn’t drop the whole rear end. Thanks for uploading the video!
Glad to hear it helped you out!

I just picked up a bugeye on Sunday that needs a gas tank and came with a new one, thanks for the video!!!
Good luck! 👍
@TwoFourSevenDIY oh I am gonna need it. Original owner, 170k miles. Rough shape but cleaned up and new paint, will be a nice metallic silver version

This is huge for me becase my rear diff nuts are rusted. Nothing else really is though so this give me another opportunity.

You didn't pull the drive shaft or even the mid way collar or whatever it's called?
Nope didn't remove the drive shaft or unbolt the carrier bearing
does the way you dropped the subframe mess up your front differential outrigger bushings? the ones under the rear doors on the rocker?
I don't see how it could
By the way l like the car is beautiful !
give thanks
gas drians each side of tank 😊
I know. I just had this feeling that if I undid the plug, I wouldn't get it to seal properly again.
2 drain plugs 🔌 😪
