    I remember the days of the draft here in America. You could volunteer and hopefully get into a better position or wait for your number to come up and be drafted with a 90% chance of being on the front lines or try and dodge the draft and get caught and sent in anyway for the worst position possible. But for most of us we were called and we went. Now this was for a war half way around the world that had no effect on stability of America only a battle against communism. In my immediate family I lost my brother an uncle and 2 cousins. They were all called and went.
    Now with Ukrainian boys that want to hide now and avoid the draft I can understand but what will life be like for them if Russia wins. Do they think it will all go back to life as normal?

    • @curiousnomadic
      @curiousnomadic 6 дней назад +1

      Yeah I don't agree with Vietnam but I think their fear is based on there being so many casualties. In a modern war like this you have to commit yourself to being a soldier and a great many men just don't have the physical ability, you know like they never trained for a sport. I agree they would be defending their freedom so it is much smarter for them to join up and train properly to increase their survival and success rate (the Russians are pretty pitiful) instead of being forced into something they don't want to do. Honestly think NATO should get involved now.

    Johnny, Ukraine is not any different from most countries now. Only Israel, for now, is able to get the male population to serve in the military in great numbers. In most countries now, young people mostly want to live for themselves. The beginning of the war in Ukraine was an exception to this rule. And we are almost 3 years away from that. In Russia they are able to get people to join the military because they get paid huge, by Russian standards, salaries and bonuses. Maybe the West should subsidize the salaries of Ukrainian soldiers to the same extent. Otherwise, I am pessimistic about the eventual outcome of this war. Ukraine cannot lack troops if it wants to survive in the long run. And certainly Ukraine cannot continue to send men to the front with only a few weeks of training. There are plenty of reputable stories about this happening all the time.

    • @SutterKrump
      @SutterKrump 7 дней назад +5

      USA gives Israel 100% unconditional support. They don't give Ukraine even 1% of that, and it's not unconditional. Ukraine is at a severe disadvantage.

  • @MalikDnD
    @MalikDnD 7 дней назад +18

    Thank you Johny for the video and for raising such a difficult topic for our society.
    Here is a view from a Ukrainian man of draft age who does not want to fight.
    1. The problem of frustration that there is no fair choice of 1 in 7. There is a large number of people who will never get into the army because relations and money decide a lot for them. And in fact, you can register everything you can, but in 90% of cases, the one who was taken by force on the street gets into the army. Because he's forcibly checked out and becomes a soldier. It can be a medical commission check at 3 a.m. in 5 minutes and then sent to the firing range. In slippers, with bread, no cell phone. A cat or a small child can stay at home and thank heavens there's someone to take care of everything for you. And on the other hand for a crime of varying degrees of severity it has become normal to hear about apologies and “like” going to the front voluntarily, but in fact it looks like. Army = punishment for a crime instead of what is written in the criminal code.
    2. Why don't I want to go? It's simple. My health sucks. And I've been told my whole life by the military that you have no business being in the army. But then in 2024 the Ukrainian parliament decided to remove this status and make everyone fit. Will I be of any use? I'm sure I'll be of no use. Am I afraid? That's also true.
    3. Commanders with the mindset of officers of the Soviet Union. You know, when you hear from your friend that your commander told you: “you are meat, go attack, they will send me new ones later” you think, is the value of people in the army the most important thing? and even such patriotic opinion leaders as Sternenko (2 million subscribers in the Ukr. segment of RUclips. It is a lot for Ukraine) loudly declare it. That generals like Sodal let the elite fighters of the fpv pilots into a simple assault without the support of the artillery, with AKs. That providing marines in krynki was terrible. What was the result? He got promoted. He's now the commander of the combined forces of the AFU.
    4. Corruption. For example, in Kharkiv region defense facilities were built for many millions. Then it turned out that in 20 km zone they are in a terrible state, and many materials are just lying by the roadside. The trenches are in the field, not in the forest belt. They are even, not zigzags (in general, if you listen to competent military men who have been there, you can be surprised. Many remodeled the trenches at the last moment because it was impossible to be there). And then you learn that the timber for the trenches was sold by a watchman (yes, just a guard at the parking lot, who had his “kind of” company. But in fact it is a scheme of sawing off money). Still no one is sitting down.
    5. Attitudes to wounded soldiers. I know firsthand. How difficult it is after being wounded to prove that you really fought and not broke arms and legs by yourself. Sometimes it takes years to get payments for the “wounded written off”. And expensive prosthetic limbs are often made only through volunteer fees.
    6. And the most frustrating thing is that things like recruiting, incentive payments, and other non-power methods are of no interest to Powers at all. Nobody even tried. But already in March 2022 they closed the borders for men from 18 to 60 years old. So if you have no choice to leave, there is no need to motivate you. I think these methods are terrible. Yes, in the beginning in 2022 there were a lot of people who wanted to protect their homes, their families and hoped that the country would change for the better. But now we can see that it has gone to the worst scenario. For example, when they introduced the new law on mobilization. They said we would mobilize people and demobilize those who fought in the war. But they turned off the standard on demobilization in the second reading. They said they would include it later, but it's been almost a year since those discussions. And there's nothing. They're talking about an unbelievable 900,000 additional mobilizations by the end of the year. And they're not even talking about demobilization.
    Sorry I don't mean to be too pessimistic, I've helped the power as a Volanter, donated, supported in any way I can. But it's just hard to see it all. There are many more negative things and personal stories of friends that have influenced my opinion. But I think that's enough. Just my opinion. Glory to Ukraine.

    2. If they would pay good, a lot of people would go to defend country.
    3. The most important. No-one can know when they will be free form army. For example if you sign contract for 1 year, and exactly in 1 year you will be able to go home, or make contract again, people would go. For now, you go and they don't allow you to finish. Our solders fight without rest 2 years, some even more. That's the biggest reason why people don't go. NORMAL HUMANITY rules, and people will go. India and Russia have close bilateral ties since independence of India in 1947. The issue that boggles my mind is that Russia's full invasion is clearly wrong. Yet many Indians do not condemn the invasion. I understand their close ties. However when Russia has clearly violated the UN charter, India and every other country should condemn Russia.

      Operation Ocean Shield Somalia (2009-2016)

That's quite normal in a war situation. The UK had this issue in WWI and WWII, having to bring conscription , or National Service in in both cases. If WWIII kicks off, it will happen again, but with the modern mindset will be a lot more difficult. A conscript Armed Force is not the best, you want people who want to be there, who will act professionally and complete the task at hand. Not at all there are west and east and south elements. The east and south are heavily Russian speaker/ethnic Russian populated. Russia has almost 4 million refugees from those places. And the US coup in 2014 that removed the democratically elected government those self same Russian speakers voted for was replaced by the US with a neo fascist one that made the despicable Nazi Stepan Bandera Ukraine's national hero and pursued a racially purist version of Ukrainian nationhood. A bloody civil war was then pursued by the Banderite governmenbt and neo Nazi influenced militias against those self same ethnic Russians in places like Donbass. Thousands killed,tens of thousands injured between 2015 and 2022. Russia intervened after 3 peace processes when it became clear the US wanted to station missiles in Ukraine and the shelling against the Donbass increased exponentially from those despicable Banderite forces. It's reminiscent of a rock opera, but at least it's not disgusting compared to the actions of the police. After such a detention on the street, who would want to go to war? It is necessary to arrest Russian collaborators and those who post anti-Ukrainian videos and stories on social networks. In general, it looks much worse than this rock opera show.
