Congratulations, Alina. As someone born and raised in Bulgaria and as your fan, I am very glad that you chose to live in my country. I hope it lives up to your expectations.

I have been looking at Bulgaria as a possible location to move to for some time now. I've visited: the first time only for a few days in 2019, then for 5 weeks in 2021 (amid COVID), when I traveled across a wide swath of the country, staying in Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo and Varna a week each. Like you, the low cost of living is a big attraction, as well as the abundance of culture. I still remember the first time I visited Sofia: from the imposing Stalinist style architecture of the Largo, to the Roman ruins of Serdika, to the neo-Byzantine churches like Sveta Nedelya and Alexander Nevsky, to Ottoman mosques and Jewish synagogues all within a 10-min walk from one another. And the rest of the country is equally enthralling, both in natural and historical beauty.
low cost? how about you give me a price (with photo) and in 1 day I reply with the photo of the item in Toronto. btw, I just bought brand new pair of Merrel shoes for, guess what, $75cad, or 50eur. now give me the price of Merrel in Bulgaria (or any other item, whether it is soy sauce or anything).
@@Burevestnik9M730 - OK, so most normal people, when comparing the cost of living between two different countries, compare common things, such as the price of rent or even the price of a meal at McDonald's. But not you. Nooooooo ... I've never heard of Merrel shoes, so I have no idea if $75 is good, bad, or indifferent. Were they on clearance? And soy sauce? Your comment definitely reads as if you've been sampling some fermented sauce, though soy wasn't the first thing that came to mind. According to the website Living Cost, a fast food meal, equivalent to McDonald's, averages around $7.56 (Canadian dollars) in Bulgaria and around $10.60 in Canada. A 3-bedroom apartment in a major downtown city (80 m^2 or 860 ft^2) averages $678 in Bulgaria and $2160 in Canada. While your beloved soy sauce didn't make the cut, a mid-priced 750 ml bottle of wine averages $6.81 in Bulgaria and $13.50 in Canada. A half litre of beer (16 fl oz) averages $1.01 in Bulgaria and $2.80 in Canada. Happy now?
I'm sending you positive energy and wishing you all the best in your new home, when it happens. You are very welcome here. I'm so happy that people like you are discovering all the opportunities and potential that Bulgaria has.

Everyone on the meetings we had said that life is extremely expensive. They also complained about how the medical system and how one has to wait for 5-6 moths for som routine procedures. A few of my contacts from Toronto have immigrated to Panama, Colombia, etc. Not to mention, Toronto is packed full of immigrants and at night in some areas it didnt feel comfortable or safe at all.
From the beginning, I knew that you would choose Bulgaria. Your eyes were shining when you mentioned Bulgaria. Welcome to this wonderful country. As they say in Bulgarian "Добре Дошла" 🌹(One Bulgarian Rose for you).

Welcome to beautiful Bulgaria Alina! Your reasons are exactly matching all our reasons for moving from States to Bulgaria for an early retirement 2.5 years ago. We were not sure that we could afford an early retirement - so we were also considering a digital nomad route - but life is so cheap in Bulgaria that we managed to live just fine. We are also originally from Ukraine and agree that Cyrillic alphabet and language similarities making transition so much easier. So far are very happy about our decision. Alina all the best for the new and exiting chapter of your life
Добре дошла :) Makes me proud you choose Bulgaria of all places and I hope you're happy with that choice. It's not perfect, but I'm sure you've taken almost everything (important to you) into account. I actually started watching you right when you were in Bulgaria 4ish (?) years ago as you popped in my RUclips feed and been a fan of your content ever since. I really do hope you have a good experience in here. My judgement of life in Sofia can be harsh as a local, same as when you were talking about Toronto, it's a lot easier to critique when you lived here long enough, but looking objectively it's a great and a very safe place, especially if you have a good salary. You'll surely meet some rude jerks along the way, I especially sometimes have a hard time with how uncooperative the people can be, but my only advice as local is to remember that not everyone is like that. Do you have friends in Sofia or anybody local helping you with the move? If you need any help or information, don't be afraid to ask.
Thank you so much, very kind of you to say! Yes, I expect there will be some bumps along the way but I think the fact that I will only be there about half the year will make the transition easier for me. Right now I do know a few friends in Sofia, but if you ever see me on the street, please come say hi!
Most important thing that you didn't mention is the personal security and low rates of crime. Bulgaria is really calm. Wish you all the best. You are welcome here and I am happy that you chose Bulgaria.
So happy for you Alina and I do think it is a great decision and choice for you as you deserve only the best. Can't wait for your next video! Stay safe and well.

I moved away from the capital 6-7 years ago and back then while it's true that there were homeless it wasn't to a point where they were all over the place, which I assume that's what you are saying. I really admire your independent spirit and thanks for sharing your travels and insights with us. May the blessings be upon you in manifesting your future.
I can't wait to follow your journey in Sofia, Bulgaria and every other place you will visit. A lot of Bulgarians don't understand why a foreign person would come and live in our country. But Bulgaria has so much to offer - beautiful places to visit, new culture to experience, people to meet, it's quite cheap to live a normal life as a foreigner in Bulgaria which is not the same for us locals (or at least a big percentage of us). I truly believe that you are making a good decision and I hope you enjoy your time in my city :)
Russian language is formed after the so called old church bulgarian ,because bulgarian monks brought the cirilic alphabeth and church books in russia written all in bulgarian arround the 900s a.d. and so tk say russia is our bulgarian child.....a biiiiiig child
an arrogant child too, which has nearly forgotten its roots. But it's both Bulgarians' fault that they don't promote their culture and other people's fault that they never read anything and so how are they going to find where the Cyrillic alphabet came from?
@@АлексейСлушко-о5ш It's true, google it, Bulgaria was the biggest and most powerful Slavic empire in the 10th century during the rule of Simeon - it was the capitol of Slavic culture and the size of the empire was 8 times bigger than the current size. The Cyrillic script was developed in the First Bulgarian Empire during the 9th century by the disciples of the brothers Saints Cyril and Methodius. They created the Glagolitic alphabet, which was later adapted into Cyrillic by Bulgarian scholars. This script was then spread to other Slavic nations, including Russia, particularly as the influence of the Bulgarian Empire grew. By the 10th century, Cyrillic became the basis for the written language of the Russian Orthodox Church, and it eventually evolved into the modern Russian alphabet we know today.

In the northeast in Bulgaria pretty much every town/village has British retirees. The roads are good, international airport nearby, seaside, resorts, yet you can find cheap houses in the towns around.
I'm your fan since your last trip in Bulgaria. I hope and i know you will have a lot of fun, maybe some hard times too, but you will always find a people who would help you. Enjoy your time and Varna waiting you again :))

Your choice to move to Bulgaria is spot on! It’s truly one of the best places to live in the Balkans. The location is unbeatable for quick trips abroad, whether it’s a weekend getaway or even just an evening out. The services here are top-notch-high quality, fast, and still very affordable, which is hard to find in many other places. Plus, the fact that you can book a doctor’s appointment on the same day is amazing. And let’s not forget about the fresh veggies and fruits-they actually taste like they should! You’re in for a fantastic experience.🍀🍀

I was very recently in Sofia and was blown away by how good the Metro is. As long as you are within walking distance of one of the stations, you never have to worry about any other kind of transport to the airport, nor the bus/train station. Also to note, you don't need to purchase those subway tickets you showed, you can just swipe your card at the little gates and they will charge you 1,60 BGN automatically. :)
I have been to Sofia and I totally understand your reasons to move there. The metro stations are among the cleanest I have seen. If you earn your money abroad then it is maybe the ideal destination for the reasons you mentioned in the video.
@ Macedonian ? I am sure nobody believes that, probably only Macedonians, because they are delusional and create fake history. They don’t even have a language, that’s a Bulgarian dialect what they are speaking 😅
Thanks for sharing your journey Alina. I'm in the middle of a similar juncture. Canadian, western Ukrainian heritage, lived and studied in Russia years ago, and going on 10 years with residecy in Central America. But I'm now middle age so close friendships and culture are pulling me back to eastern europe. Like you, I was impressed with Albania, just how open they were during the lockdowns, but language would prevent me from ever living there. I'm now proceeding with permanent residency in the one country I don't think you've mentioned, a place in the bad books with many in the west, but where language and culture are familiar and where the people are incredibly kind and welcoming. Anyway, I'll keep following your journey and see how things go for you. All the best.
Hahah, I knew it, I don't know how but from the moment you announced that you are moving to Eastern Europe, I just knew it. Some kind of 6th sense perhaps. Welcome to Bulgaria, again! 😍
Smart choice. I'm also moving back to Bulgaria. If more people come there is the risk of the small country being overrun as has happened with Lisbon, Barcelona, Amsterdam and before that with Venice. Prices will rise then too and the locals will become grumpy. But for now, it seems a good choice, if you want to live in Europe.

You are so damn right , and soon great things will happen there... ❤😊😅
low cost? how about you give me a price (with photo) and in 1 day I reply with the photo of the item in Toronto. btw, I just bought brand new pair of Merrel shoes for, guess what, $75cad, or 50eur. now give me the price of Merrel in Bulgaria (or any other item, whether it is soy sauce or anything).
Happy now?

Everyone on the meetings we had said that life is extremely expensive. They also complained about how the medical system and how one has to wait for 5-6 moths for som routine procedures. A few of my contacts from Toronto have immigrated to Panama, Colombia, etc.
Not to mention, Toronto is packed full of immigrants and at night in some areas it didnt feel comfortable or safe at all.

That's awesome Alina, Bulgaria looks beautiful!
Alina all the best for the new and exiting chapter of your life
Добре дошла :)
Makes me proud you choose Bulgaria of all places and I hope you're happy with that choice.

@@TheDoomsday120 To be fair what you are describing is pretty much all big cities around the world. I moved away from the capital 6-7 years ago and back then while it's true that there were homeless it wasn't to a point where they were all over the place, which I assume that's what you are saying. I doubt that in such a short time that has changed. Mentally ill also weren't abundant back then and while I'm sure there is an uptick since 2020, I doubt that it's to a point where it comes even remotely close to the major western capitals.

Hey Alina, also another great thing about Bulgaria is that we have amazing weather - 4 seasons with good temperatures💙
But it's both Bulgarians' fault that they don't promote their culture and other people's fault that they never read anything and so how are they going to find where the Cyrillic alphabet came from?
))))) смешная сказка
