Great choice, it seems that more and more foreigners are chosing our country! A few tips: - a lot of people from Sofia go to Greece for their beach vacations, the distance isn't much larger than going east to the Balck Sea. - there are more mountain ranges than you mentioned: Vitosha, Rila, Pirin, Stara Planina (the literal Balkan btw), Rhodopi, Strandzha, and a whole lot smaller ones spinkled throughout the country. Sofia is surrounded by mountains and you can take public transportation to some of them. - if you register an LLC for your business, you'll also have to hire yourself as the general manager and pay yourself a salary. This can be the minimum wage for that category of labour and would force you to pay in at least a little into social security. Many small business owners pay themselves a minimum wage and get most of their personal income as dividends, which are taxed at a further 5%. - Sofia is pretty walkable, but the sidewalks aren't great. You should watch your step or risk a nasty fall or a sprained ankle. This has been rapidly improving in the last few years though. - the air quality in Sofia can vary dramatically, from pristine to poisonous. Just a heads up, so you're not surprised. Luckily it's easy to travel to the countryside or catch a cheap and quick flight to some other European city for a couple of days if this is a concern. - Bulgarian and Macedonian are the odd ones out of the Slavic language family as they mostly lack a grammatical case system. Using Russian grammar won't work. That said, most locals know either English or Russian as a second language, so communication shouldn't be too difficult. Welcome and good luck!
Congratulations, Alina. As someone born and raised in Bulgaria and as your fan, I am very glad that you chose to live in my country. I hope it lives up to your expectations.

I really admire your independent spirit and thanks for sharing your travels and insights with us. May the blessings be upon you in manifesting your future.
Bulgaria seems SO AMAZING! The nature, people, food, language and location seem so great. I want to travel there but until I get the money together, I get to watch you go through the process to get there.
I can't wait to follow your journey in Sofia, Bulgaria and every other place you will visit. A lot of Bulgarians don't understand why a foreign person would come and live in our country. But Bulgaria has so much to offer - beautiful places to visit, new culture to experience, people to meet, it's quite cheap to live a normal life as a foreigner in Bulgaria which is not the same for us locals (or at least a big percentage of us). I truly believe that you are making a good decision and I hope you enjoy your time in my city :)
Most important thing that you didn't mention is the personal security and low rates of crime. Bulgaria is really calm. Wish you all the best. You are welcome here and I am happy that you chose Bulgaria.
After 20 years in Canada, my husband and I moved back to Bulgaria, 5 years ago. It wouldn't be possible if he didn't opt for an early retirement. We bought a house in one small village and now we are enjoying gardening, simple life, and our organic produce.
So happy for you Alina and I do think it is a great decision and choice for you as you deserve only the best. Can't wait for your next video! Stay safe and well.

Welcome to Bulgaria! Hopefully everything will work out as best as possible for you! Greetings from Varna, Bulgaria (on the Black Sea coast). Be patient, it will be worth it.
I was very recently in Sofia and was blown away by how good the Metro is. As long as you are within walking distance of one of the stations, you never have to worry about any other kind of transport to the airport, nor the bus/train station. Also to note, you don't need to purchase those subway tickets you showed, you can just swipe your card at the little gates and they will charge you 1,60 BGN automatically. :)
I'm your fan since your last trip in Bulgaria. I hope and i know you will have a lot of fun, maybe some hard times too, but you will always find a people who would help you. Enjoy your time and Varna waiting you again :))
What I've learned with age and maturity is that listening to my intuition/gut feelings usually doesn't steer me wrong. The tricky part is just understanding what your intuition is trying to tell you.

@@TheDoomsday120 To be fair what you are describing is pretty much all big cities around the world. I moved away from the capital 6-7 years ago and back then while it's true that there were homeless it wasn't to a point where they were all over the place, which I assume that's what you are saying. I doubt that in such a short time that has changed. Mentally ill also weren't abundant back then and while I'm sure there is an uptick since 2020, I doubt that it's to a point where it comes even remotely close to the major western capitals.
Good luck Alina and welcome to Bulgaria! Hope you find lots of friends and have a great time and living! Me and my Ukranian wife will be returning there, too!
Hey, I am so glad you chose my country! In general Bulgarians are very welcoming to foreigners, especially if they come and give their bit in economic prosperity of the country. You are going to do that, so you are more than welcome! I see you are very well acquainted with the details about living in Bulgaria. If you know some Russian and you can read Cyrillic alphabet, it won't be so hard for you to learn Bulgarian. Actually Bulgaria has 39 mountains in total, not just 2. :) Most of them are small ones, but there are some big ones - the two ranges you mentioned Pirin and Rhodopes mountain, but we also have Stara planina (Old mountain translated in English) which starts from the west border of Bulgaria and goes all the way east to the seaside of the Black sea. Rila is also very beautiful mountain with the highest peak on the Balkans and a lot of beautiful lakes. And most importantly - you have a mountain right next to Sofia - Vitosha mountain. So, if you like hiking and activities in the mountains, you will have a lot of possibilities. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you like life in Bulgaria!
I realise I left Ireland 35 years ago and didn't tell the state I was leaving. Now that would seem like a peculiar thing to do for a Irish person. I have now put Bulgaria on my possible retirement plan and will visit soon.
In the northeast in Bulgaria pretty much every town/village has British retirees. The roads are good, international airport nearby, seaside, resorts, yet you can find cheap houses in the towns around.
From the beginning, I knew that you would choose Bulgaria. Your eyes were shining when you mentioned Bulgaria. Welcome to this wonderful country. As they say in Bulgarian "Добре Дошла" 🌹(One Bulgarian Rose for you).
Добре дошла :) Makes me proud you choose Bulgaria of all places and I hope you're happy with that choice. It's not perfect, but I'm sure you've taken almost everything (important to you) into account. I actually started watching you right when you were in Bulgaria 4ish (?) years ago as you popped in my RUclips feed and been a fan of your content ever since. I really do hope you have a good experience in here. My judgement of life in Sofia can be harsh as a local, same as when you were talking about Toronto, it's a lot easier to critique when you lived here long enough, but looking objectively it's a great and a very safe place, especially if you have a good salary. You'll surely meet some rude jerks along the way, I especially sometimes have a hard time with how uncooperative the people can be, but my only advice as local is to remember that not everyone is like that. Do you have friends in Sofia or anybody local helping you with the move? If you need any help or information, don't be afraid to ask.
Thank you so much, very kind of you to say! Yes, I expect there will be some bumps along the way but I think the fact that I will only be there about half the year will make the transition easier for me. Right now I do know a few friends in Sofia, but if you ever see me on the street, please come say hi!
Welcome to beautiful Bulgaria Alina! Your reasons are exactly matching all our reasons for moving from States to Bulgaria for an early retirement 2.5 years ago. We were not sure that we could afford an early retirement - so we were also considering a digital nomad route - but life is so cheap in Bulgaria that we managed to live just fine. We are also originally from Ukraine and agree that Cyrillic alphabet and language similarities making transition so much easier. So far are very happy about our decision. Alina all the best for the new and exiting chapter of your life
Very happy for you Alina! Bulgaria must be really nice and also safe, then it offers spectacular locations, from the mountains to the Black Sea! Wish you all the best 🍀💕🪻

Thanks for sharing your journey Alina. I'm in the middle of a similar juncture. Canadian, western Ukrainian heritage, lived and studied in Russia years ago, and going on 10 years with residecy in Central America. But I'm now middle age so close friendships and culture are pulling me back to eastern europe. Like you, I was impressed with Albania, just how open they were during the lockdowns, but language would prevent me from ever living there. I'm now proceeding with permanent residency in the one country I don't think you've mentioned, a place in the bad books with many in the west, but where language and culture are familiar and where the people are incredibly kind and welcoming. Anyway, I'll keep following your journey and see how things go for you. All the best.

Seeing your videos of Bulgaria has made me, if I ever visit a country, if I ever get brave enough to fly so far away, I would want to visit Bulgaria! 😃 🙏 congratulations again!
+1 but reverse 😂😂 Although I've been to more than 20 countries(all in Europe) and i have more than 100 flights, the fear factor is real when I am on the plane😂😂 Someday I will have to face my fear and will visit the US and Japan. These two countries are the dream for me.

Добре дошла в България Алина 😊. You have chosen a piece of paradise, which is yet to surprise you. I am extremely proud that you are showing Bulgaria to the world in this way and I am sure that you will feel very comfortable here. Keep all your virtues and be an ambassador of Bulgaria wherever you go. You will be. You have already done it with this video, which we Bulgarians will never forget. I wish you from the bottom of my heart that all your dreams come true in your new home.😊

Great choice, it seems that more and more foreigners are chosing our country! A few tips:
- a lot of people from Sofia go to Greece for their beach vacations, the distance isn't much larger than going east to the Balck Sea.
Congratulations for choosing the nicest country dear Alina. Wish you all the best...

Yeah the public transit is honestly fantastic there! We have way more issues here in Toronto lol

Welcome, dear Alina! I hope that you will feel at home in my country!
Thank you!

Makes me proud you choose Bulgaria of all places and I hope you're happy with that choice.
