  • The Fijian Government through the Fiji National Disaster Management Office continues to align its activities with Goal 11 of the Sustainable Development Goal “Sustainable Cities and Communities “especially on disaster preparedness and building capacity for Emergency Operators around Fiji.
This week, the NDMO took the Working Emergency Operations Centre (WEOC), Gender, Protection and Inclusion in Emergency Training to the Nadroga Navosa province.
This is the continuation of its effort to carry our disaster preparedness awareness and capacity building for communities to respond quickly during any natural disaster.
While addressing the participants this morning, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Hon Inia Seruiratu stresses that the country need to adjust to the new normal.
Hon Seruiratu added that we must also change the way we conduct development and make sure that building of homes and other developments should be aligned towards resilient structures.
“NDMO cannot do it alone and with good partnership, we will achieve more, less cost and be more effective and efficient, “said Hon Seruiratu.
This program is jointly developed by partners implementing the Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) Disaster Ready Program in Fiji in consultation with NDMO.
The project is led by the NDMO and Live and Learn with the support from CARE (gender), Fiji Disable Peoples Federation (disability inclusion), Rainbow Pride Foundation (LGBTQI), and Save the Children Fiji (Child Protection).
This training will end on Friday (17th July).
