I was 10 year old boy the first time I heard this song. It made me cry and I couldn't explain why because I never cry. 25 years later and nothing has changed.
I have to agree it is the best music piece I've heard as far as melodic heartfelt true emotion you could actually feel this song as you listen to it it's like it goes right through your body. Outstanding
This is by far my favourite song. I’m a metal head but I love classical guitar. I used to play canon in D on my acoustic to put my daughters to sleep. Thanks Marco. You are a great teacher and I appreciate your love for music.
Just want to say how much I appreciate not only the tution you give, but the values in your heart that underpin what you do. Simplicity, genuine desire to enable others, of which humility and integrity of purpose are key. What's in our heart will always colour our words, actions, use of our talents and that makes anything beautiful. Thank you! Makes me want to pick up the guitar again, now much later in life.
I love the song, and I have to say, after 53 years of marriage, I really love your comparison of the song to love. I love my wife now in ways I never knew possible when we were teenagers. As there are layers and yes complexities to this wonderful composition, so is it with a love that endures. The key may be in what you said about challenges...our marriage and our love has had to face challenges, and each made us stronger as a couple. I have to learn this song with all of it's variations. Thank you so much.
As someone who have an interest in poems i'm gonna express my views on cannon in d rhetorically Canon in d is the most beautiful pieces i have ever witness. It is more than just a piece to connect two madly in love souls in holy matrimony. It is a tribute to humans advancement. for years millions of us have tackle the impossible and learn along the way. We were just neantherthals who relied on strength, but we adapt to the iron age where we use tools to cover our weakness. To the philosophers in ancient greece from Socrates knowledge and Plato wisdom they manage to understand the world slowly. To the spirit's of the vikings they manage to conquered the waves. To Newtons theory and leonardo da vinci creativity they manage to pave a path to more curious mind that have the courage to challenge what is thought to be impossible. The Wright brothers passions is what ultimately leads humanity to conquered the sky and for us to be free as the birds that flew by. To Einstein brain E=m.c² a revolution equation it may just seems like a few numbers and letters, but it is because of that few numbers and letters that we manage to put our marks on the moon, and i shall tell you as humanity continues to be curious and challenge life. One day we will be able to live among the realm above the heavens and we will be voyagers among the stars.
I really love the Baroque Period, So much beautiful And relaxing music, I Always loved Canon, But if I had to pick number 2 it would probably be adagio, And Vivaldis concerto for lute , I find myself listening to it more and more, especially After Loosing both my parents, four days apart, From covid 19, and all the crazy and angry Times we live in today, Just started playing guitar, Recently, thanks for the video, Sounds beautiful.
This song to me encapsulates life itself. The bass notes highlight the highs and lows, but also the repetitive nature of life. Night follows day, the sun rises and then sets and the seasons come and go. Comfort can be found in the constancy of it all. But sadness too as new people enter your life while others leave it. The melody is the story of your life. How it builds and becomes richer and more complex with every bar. You grow up, you get married and you start a family. You learn new things, you meet new people. You walk the tightrope of living the best life you can while trying to juggle each and every part of it. You experience pure happiness, ecstasy and joy. And craziness too. And all the while, the bass notes are there. Ever present. Night follows day, the sun rises and sets and the seasons come and go. You get older. Life becomes calmer. A little clearer maybe. You wonder did my life mean anything? Did I make a difference? You wish you could play the melody again, because you realise now what the important parts were, and you’d play them better this time. But that’s not how it works. The bass notes keep on rolling, but now it’s time for someone else to play the melody.
Your playing and explanation is beautiful, but the piece REALLY comes alive when done with orchestra and strings with a rich cello playing that base line to open it up, and then each layer a different section of strings. Fantastic piece!
Here in the UK decades ago,it was the tune in an advert for pure new wool. Ever since I heard it the first time it is my favourite piece of classical music. So beautiful and haunting,it was played at Princess Diana's funeral.
Old ex rock guitarist here and loving the sound of your guitar. This is the only classical piece I love. I would definitely buy a recording of you doing this one on that guitar, with that beautiful sound. Not as you did then on your own but overdubbing each of the melodies for an even fuller sound. Let us know if you do it. The steel strings a good choice, gave it that squeaky live sound
Thank You for inspiring me to learn The Original, and not default to the version in C like most people do to start, but never evolve to learning or playing Cannon in key of D
Thank you, Marco.. This piece is so beautiful, and you are right, without being challenged we will not progress. God bless, peace and love from Canada. Steve
Man you really are something in acoustic guitar. That talent and the deep understanding of each chords really is something. You really are the best guitar mentor for me.
100% correct. That's why you don't hear many people playing complex jazz songs in their cars on a sunny day. People laugh at me when I say this but I think ABBA songs are a great example of approachable music.
If you really want to sense the understated elegance of this masterpiece, then listen to a classical Spanish guitar piece for military procession before hand. Asturias by Albienez is perfect. Then, if you want to experience serious evolution, listen to Cuba's Leo Broweur's classic on an approaching November.
i always find your videos beautiful... no matter how hard the melody is, your knowledge, your way of expressing things, use of extended chords... your journey in youtube is amusing and beautiful ❤️ you're one of a kind in youtube ❤️ thank you big brother for helping students like us ❤️
My wife walked down the aisle to me to this song. Makes me tear up every time I hear it. Never managed to find a decent guitar tutorial for it though, if anybody knows of one I would love to hear about it
Canon in D sounds composed by someone in love. And everytime you here it, you feel the same emotions the composer felt when he was in love with someone and writing about this song.
It's interesting that you played the piece with a capo on while I don't use one whenever I play it. I remember struggling with the sixteenth note section of the piece but by the time I got over it I've had that feeling of fulfillment. Well done with your analysis.
I think the fact that Eddy from Twoset jokingly played this piece using a rubber chicken and it sounded good, is a testament to how beautiful is this song. (Even if twoset considers it played out)
You're good, man. No one knows what wil you achieve as musician, guitar player, this is a matter of chance, opportunities, some peculiar fit of favorable elements, but you can surely make a great teacher. Provided there's still interest in clasic instruments and pursuits.
I don't regret for finding Marco's channel, your hands are blessed, always inspiring me and never cease to amuse me every time you release a video. Coz of you I realized that the style of playing I like is more inclined to the one you play. Thank you so much teacher Marco
I also love this song. It incorporates major and minor so beautiful. I practice it on the piano. Have learn a page and half. Now, I get fatigue of playing it. Need my weed to concentrate
Huge leap in the video production, your voice overlapping the music in the background, your script became somehow poetic and shifting the full song to the end. Simply Favoloso amico mio 👌🏻
I was 10 year old boy the first time I heard this song. It made me cry and I couldn't explain why because I never cry. 25 years later and nothing has changed.
He's not just playing the songs.. this guy has the complete understanding of them and passion for playing them.
His name is Marco ,not "this guy".
It's called analysis :)
Except in this case, he is playing a PIECE! >:(
Sure
Man you are so right about that
I know it's very subjective, but I think Canon in d is probably the most beautiful piece of music ever written.
Is it a song sir? Or a music?
I feel the same way with samán by Ólafur arnalds 😂

Of course if it were written today they'd have to throw in:
5. Quantizing to the grid
6. Twerking
7. vocal track with autotune?

This melody is indeed wonderful. It shows how over a fixed chord progression you can make many different melodies! I just love this melody!
