I love this game, its so memorable. The charaters were very unique in every way but the one that stood out the most to me was alice....... alice and yuri truly loved each other and her love for him was so deep that she willingly gave her own life to save him. I would like to think that they were reincarnated into the present and some how find each other again and start another adventure together . It would make a great fourth installment to this beautiful well done story and game. I will never ever forget this game and story ever. I'm 30 years old now, played this game when i was 13 and it left quite the impression on me to this day.
Weeeell... technically she does live. You see, with Shadow Hearts nothing is so simple. Because the "Good Ending" for Shadow Hearts 2 is canon. Which is where after "dying", Yuri returns to the moment before just before boarding the train that he first encounters Albert Simon and Alice Elliot. And in that pathway he gets the original Shadow Hearts "good ending" where Alice lives. This was established as canon in Shadow Hearts: The New World. So... canon is: SH1 (BE) -> SH2 (GE) -> SH1 (GE) XD
Not just bringing it back - a remaster wouldn't do. A remake, maybe. Maybe Koudelka, SH1 and SH2 combined into one, freaking epic game.. If they go fully insane on this, multi-path with one or two new variations of how the story flows, depending on wether Alice lives or not - there's a whole new alternate reality for you..
One of the best RPGs ever.. thanks for sharing this :) I say it's a good thing they never got re-released. Chances are so good they'd change stuff for the worse. It just wouldn't be SH anymore.
I still love this song so much, and this game. Pulled me out of dark places more times than I'd care to count. It had such a long lasting and profound effect on me that my own daughter is named Alice
It's nice to see others understand the ending too! :) Most people i've talked to didn't understand and thought she died, it was lovely that the game really ended happily :)
@Darknanaki72 Karin is Yuri's mother. Play SH2 again, remember the picture that was given to Karin by Yuri's aunt? It's a picture of Yuri's father and mother and him when he was little boy. Uncoincidently, Yuri's mother in the picture is identical to Karin, and by the end of SH2, where does Karin find herself? Unconscious in Japan, but who finds her? Yuri's father. It's not inconceivable that after learning she'll eventually be Yuri's mother she changed her identity.
@Darknanaki72 I'm fully aware of those inconsistencies. SH1 is the only SH I've played, apart from Koudelka. Since I couldn't get my hands on SH2 I read the online guides, I checked the official websites, I got as much information on it as possible because England for some reason completely missed on Shadow Hearts.
@Apillis124 I'm pretty sure her name got changed to Anne after you get off of that warship thing and on the release papers Karin's name has been changed to Anne or something i can't remember so she probably just decided to use that identity like you said.

I posted that a looong time ago and after playing the first game again I actually changed my view, I'd rather him be with alice, I like that ending better. I think when I posted this I was just mad that alice was dead and he couldnt get over her. But I never knew or understood that Karin was his mom
Beautiful, yet kind of sad sounding. They played this track again in SH2 during her failed resurrection by Roger Bacon. It was a cleverly written story, and I loved how it came full circle by the end of the second game. Thanks for posting this. By the way. Awesome artwork for your vid. Did you do this?
HI SH Fans, one question...if Yuri used the Timevortex at the end of SH2 to save Alice does this mean that he won´t meet his friends from SH2, or do you think he will stop Kato now with Alice by his side?
@blargityish The graphics of SH1 weren't really that good to begin with, and there wasn't ever really a very good visual of her in the very brief cutscenes she appears in. Also, notice Yuri, Alice, Ben, and Margarette don't even exactly look like they did in SH1.
Yeah three wasn't so great. They shouldn't have killed yuri and instead made a sequel with him and Karen. He really needed to get over Alice that was just pissing me off.
Quite possibly the single most underrated JRPG of all time.
The soundtrack alone proves this game series is one of the best rpgs ever made.

Yuri's face in this image tells you so much about him. He looks so longingly at Alice. Like he's saying, "Please never leave my side."

I think SH1 bad ending leads to SH2 good ending, and SH2 good ending leads to SH1 gogd ending
