A friend of mine started selling RVs after he was laid off from his job, he lasted about a month, he couldn't believe how much they were ripping off the old people and the things he was told to do which were outright lies and tricks His conscience wouldn't let him.

I am a subscriber Liz. Love your channel. My wife and I have been searching for a specific fifthwheel. We found one at Rugby RV, Rugby, ND. We were told on the phone and in emails it was in "very good condition...prepped, winterized, and ready" for us to buy. We drove 1,800 miles (RT) to inspect it based upon what they told us. (No NRVIA inspectors in ND). We arrived only to find the plumbing frozen, water damage in the kitchen walls and ceiling, a hole in the roof, dead bugs and mice feces in the kitchen drawers and under the bed, severely bald tires, and torn slide-out seals. The salesman and sales manager didn't care at all we spent hundreds in hotels and fuel costs to drive that great distance to only to see a disaster they wanted to sell us and were dishonest of the condition. We asked to see their PDI checklist but the dealership declined. We will never trust an RV salesman again!!!!!

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  3 месяца назад +5

Oh my goodness, so sorry. Next time you see an RV you like and it's long distance (whether at a dealer or a private seller), ask them to FaceTime you and show you the whole coach inside and out, underneath and also send photos of the roof. I've done that a few times and it's saved me a trip!

Remember think twice and act once. I challenge anybody to go to an RV show and sale. Walk around for a couple of hours and see how fast you can get out of there before somebody approaches you and tries to squash you into a deal. Do yourself a favor and do a pressure test to see how much pressure they can put on you and you can walk away. Never be afraid to walk away because when you walk away, the money is still in your pocket. 🔥🔥🔥

Sorry I disagree with be done… maybe rent one once to see if you want to buy or if you are just going out once but if you place to travel renting them is a joke. They can say $199 for a night and by the time you’re done with all their bogus fees your at $500

    • @f42un84u
      @f42un84u 3 месяца назад +7

Some of us think of it as the total cost of renting vs owning for the period of use needed. Most infrequent use RVers may be better off renting. Most full time RVers maybe better off owning. As painful as it is potential RVers need to write a plan, factor personal circumstances and analyze costs vs benefits. Then make a smart beneficial decision.

Yes, in fact the slide-out body on my last RV, a 2009 Thor Serrano, was made entirely from pressboard and the roof had developed a leak over this slide-out prior to my buying it and when I needed to get some repairs done, the repair shop in Medford, Oregon started to remove the slide-out and immediately stopped and called me with the bad news.
Why would any RV builder use pressboard on such a critical component as a slide-out ?
Save a few bucks on every build and to hell with the customer a couple years down the road !
These companies are down-right evil and deserve to be sued or go out of business !

It has been a while ago now...my ex-wife and I flew to Las Vegas (it is funny, since I now live in Reno). We aren't gamblers. We love great food. I had some airline miles about to expire and we were in the off season for Las Vegas (yes, even sin city has an off season). So we flew down, was greeted by a pretty woman who wanted us to go see a timeshare presentation. Free lunch, free trip, and free tickets to a major show. We didn't have the cash to purchase a timeshare so we already knew that deal was off the table, and three hours plus lunch, ok. We'll play the game. Dang! The sales pitch was so intense! We spent three hours with a hungry salesman, free (but cheap and stale) food, but we only had to pay with our time to see an amazing magic show at the end of the night. Watch out for the sharks. (And for the record, I have owned three RV's in my life.)

❤️Pam I am on a mission of helping consumers when they go to purchase an RV or even if they’re just thinking about buying an RV I want to give them the insight of what to think about before they sign any contract of their choice. We all earn our money I don’t want anybody to burn their money. Soon I will be talking about lawsuits in the RV industry. I will not mention any company names. I will not mention any lawyers names. I will not mention the location of any dealer.
But I will mention is the situation that I’ve been involved in helping lawyers win these cases that they’ve hired me in the past to help them win Attorney hired me to go to another state and get in front of a judge and a jury as an expert witness I did not represent myself as legal counsel in any fashion. I made it known in front of the judge and the jury, and everyone else in the courtroom that I was an expert witness. In this particular situation, somebody lost their life. It was regarding a car crash. Something happened behind the consumers back, which brought the case to Life Stay tuned, you’ll get to listen to it Please share these videos that Liz produces with your friends. It doesn’t matter whether they plan to buy an RV or a car. I will always have good advice for everyone.
I feel good about what I do and I feel really good when I’m done with a case because I’m gonna make the right decision about what I need to bring in front of a judge and the jury and the consumers. Stay tuned it’s coming in a couple of weeks or less. I will be in another video. It will be very informative. I guarantee it. I put the red heart on this. I believe you’ll probably love it. ❤

#1 Rule a dealer will teach their sales force is, "If you don't have control over your customer, you have NOTHING!" If your salesman is ever swapped in the middle of getting you into a vehicle it's because the sales floor manager doesn't think your salesman has you under his thumb. I sold cars for a while. When I saw a senior salesman throw his customer's keys on the roof of the sales building (to keep them from leaving) I walked out. All the salesman wants to accomplish is to get you into the most expensive unit he can and get you to sign the "I will buy and drive, today, ###### unit for $$$$$$$$ money" and then send you into 'the box' where the finance manager will attempt to yank even more money away from you.
Never, ever, EVER accept any reduction in your ability to employ a real lawyer! Arbitration is just another way of screwing yourself. (Apologies for the term but it is the most emphatic way to get my point across.) Arbitration will only go your way if you can find a way the arbitrator broke the law and good luck with that. I don't care if it is for a new or used car, RV, refrigerator or a job - just don't do it. Forced arbitration, or ANY arbitration, should be illegal as it only serves the person paying for their services. Consider it a sign that they are only going to do whatever they want to you because you just signed away your rights. Any company forcing an arbitration contract should be considered as shysters looking to bend you over. Period.
Having been a pro mechanic for fifty years I can tell you there are some extended warranties that are better than others but many change their names or close up shop before their exposure level hurts their bottom line. If people knew what they were reading in the fine print they would have the skills to fix it themselves. "Hmm, says here they'll fix any lubricated part in the engine, that sounds great!" Uh, there are a ton of parts that are not lubricated and replacing them can incur a LOT of labor. Many of them don't repair/replace gaskets and/or seals. So that big puddle under the engine is going to cost you. I've seen some deny any part of a claim until you get past the non-covered part(s). "Oh, you need a new engine? Ok, we cover the lubricated parts but everything else you need isn't covered." Or any of the wiring which is so often the cause of electronic issues. And many shops won't repair a harness, they'll only replace it (I've seen some harnesses go for a few thousand dollars, plus labor.) Let me just say I've seen more claims denied vs. paid. Or enough of a claim denied that many people give up and sell the unit off at a lower price, hoping to pass their misery on to someone else. PLUS, the amount you pay a dealer for an extended warranty is usually 3-6 times more than it costs the dealer! and then they want to finance you so they can roll that in as well.
PDI - 'Pre Delivery Inspection'... LOL. LOL. I don't know if any RV manufacturer actually pays a tech to inspect an RV once it has been delivered. Maybe they do. Auto manufacturers typically pay a couple hours for a tech or prep guy to yank the plastic off of the seats, remove any lock-out devices, check this and that (which almost 3/4 of the list always gets blown off by the tech) and, if you're lucky, gets a quickie wash. I sincerely doubt RVs get that much attention.
Ditto on the domestic drivelines. Imagine breaking down in BFE, North Dakota, in your Mercedes Class B/C and finding a dealer. Or waiting for parts to come from offshore. Also, look for a VIN tag near the driver's seat, door jamb, etc. It will have a production date on it. Typically the older it is, the longer it has been sitting on someone's floor plan and the more willing they will be to deal.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK! A few hours can save you thousands. How often do you make several thousands of dollars per hour?

Great information. Keep in mind a dealer has 10 days to title a trade-in. If you have a payment draft from your bank account within 10 days on your old RV after the trade; you have been fleeced. A large deal in Ormond Beach FL does this routinely.

Wow! Liz, I’m glad that I always do my homework before I buy. That gentleman that is exposing the truth about the dealers way of selling to a customer is always been that way. I have purchased brand new Vehicle in 3 ocasión including my Van witch I currently live in with my wife, and they wanted me to buy the extended warranty. 😳 is exactly what they want! Sell you a warranty that you don’t need if your vehicle already have a manufacturer warranty. I learn a lot from these sales person and they are not there to be your friend. A++ on this video. 👍🏼

Never be afraid of having your propane system tested for leaks one liquid gallon of propane in the tank will expand to 270 gallons of explosive vapor if there’s a leak in the system. Think about a 30 gallon tank that’s full of propane that’s 8100 gallons of explosive vapor. If there’s a leak in the system, God forbid the propane is leaking inside of your. 8100 gallons of explosive vapor will put your RV on another planet. 🔥🔥🔥

Liz is posting an advertisement for Brooklyn Bedding. They are probably paying her a commission.. Tip-if you bought an extended warranty through the dealership, contact the warranty company to make sure the dealer paid them for it. Some dealers pocket the money and you don't have a warranty. If you are local they will act like you do if you have a service problem but if you are on the road out of the area you may find you have no warranty. The biggest profit is selling RV's is arranging financing. If you cant pay for a RV in 5 years, you can't afford it.

@@jerrytalley802 People who post on You Tube and have lots of subscribers make money and sometimes endorse products and services where they make more money. I sold RV's for 23 years and can tell you lots of RV's have problems and there are good and bad ways to work with dealers. I can never forget an owner of a medium sized dealership never to sell an RV to people who are argumentative and difficult as we found 10% of our customers gave us 75% of problems in the sales and especially the service department. Do not expect to get warranty service similar to car dealers. Car dealers make money on warranty service-that is why they will fix them at any dealers. The RV world pays the dealer very little and then they have to go after other manufacturers for other components like refrigerators, slide outs and stuff made by other manufacturers. Liz is promoting getting RV "experts" to go along with you which is OK as long as they are not a pain in the butt and cause problems like most of them do. I was employed by 4 different RV dealers who operated very differently from one that let me handle people from the start of showing them RV's, appraising their trades to writing them up and handling financing.. Others focused on hard sell and made people sit down and you had to find out if they were looking or buying, if they had a trade and how much did they owe on it, if they were a cash buyer or financing buyer and how much could they put down and how much a month could they pay. If you go to a RV dealer to just look, you should slip the poor salesperson who is under high stress to sell a $50 bill so he can buy his family some mac and cheese to feed his family after you went through 24 units you never intended to buy.

Great video, Liz, and your consultant, or whatever, shows both experience and good sense. While I never bought an RV from a dealer, I bought a number of new cars and I now have a better idea of the reasoning behind the dealers' always trying to sell me an extended warranty, accessories, or paint sealant (today) and in earlier times, rustproofing and undercoating. Those things are practically useless to the buyer short term, and subject to unknowns that could change in the future, but a credit to the dealer's cash flow immediately. Odds are the buyer won't buy again from the same dealer so there's no motive to cultivate buyer loyalty, while the additional cash is all gravy. Too bad it's like that but that's reality.

Things I would suggest to buyers would be know your budget, get your financing from a bank you do business with and not the RV dealer, never tell the sales person how you will be paying for the purchase so you will get the best price possible, when the dealership thinks they will get a loan commission, do your homework on extended warranty’s and never purchase them at the time of sale, never think the clown on the other side of the desk is on your side, they will do and say anything to get your money! The retired sales person in this video, said it all very nicely! Never buy with your emotions, but with your business Head!!!

What a delightful surprise this video is. I never sold a car commercially in my life but I played in that ballpark for decades. Stories? Oh yea. Thankfully the bad ones were outliers. People I would work for had values including integrity. Can't wait to see the video when he becomes an expert witness. Be VERY VERY VERY careful with any extended warranty. In my ballpark the manufactures had very good ones but the aftermarket ones were total trash. One of their tricks is to say defective part. Sure is tough when a part makes it 75,000 miles to say it was defective and of course those aftermarket extended warranties don't cover wear and tear. Same part goes bad on the manufacture extended warranty and it was covered. Same applies to home warranty. Be very careful. Rambled on and on again. Have a great week and hope you are having lots of fun.

This is good. And given human nature, this will generate the most "clicks" or views. Again, I get it. What I really want today are videos from trusted sources, like you, that let me know who are the top tier vendors that I don't need to worry so much about. If I am a buyer for new drivable RV systems, who are the best?

Thanks Liz, always good content. 1st, I would never buy a new RV. 2nd, I would always have an inspection on a used RV. 3rd, I would always anticipate 10-15% of the purchase price to be what my cost per year would be, over and above any payment. These RV sales people are like funeral homes when it comes to playing on consumer emotion, just not excitement but sadness. After a career in marketing I am a cynical of these methods that a lot of sales people use. The guy is right, I'm happy he didn't continue on as an RV salesman. Stay safe out there.

Good points. I’ve never purchased a car or motorhome without walking away at least once. On my present coach I walked away three times over three weeks. I understand people feel pressured or are impulse buyers. That’s unfortunate. Know what you’re getting into, do your homework. There is ALWAYS another deal out there.
If you walk away you will find another RV if that one’s gone.
And if you’ve never owned one before, rent one or two before buying. As others have said , try before you buy. The lifestyle and headaches are not for everyone. And there are headaches.
I agree with some of what he said on extended warranty. Don’t buy from the dealer and DONT buy if it’s a new RV. It’s covered for at least 12 months. Buy after the factory warranty ends.
But there are decent extended service agreements that work. They don’t cover everything, but if you plan on keeping it for 5 or more years like I do, it covers at least 50 percent or more of major repairs. At least that has been my experience with good programs. Again, do your homework, don’t trust the dealer.
Thank you for your video. Good luck to all.

The TV industry is all about selling and making money. RV ownership is expensive and the standard set for manufacturing of RV's is substandard. Trust me on that point, everything is filmsy. Liz is so right on mattress too. My husband and I own a 2011 toy hauler that is 17 ft. We use it mainly for local travel to motorcycle races that he course Marshall. While I love having the trailer for these weekends, it remains work to maintain, pull and care for. Stick Bogart is right about arbitration clauses. They're terrible. *Avoid them if you possibly can.* They deprive you of your right to a jury trial, and the arbitrator is chosen by the dealer and manufacturer!
The problem is that arbitration clauses are so ubiquitous these days that you often *_can't_* avoid them.
Thankfully there is a ray of hope on the horizon. There is legislation currently pending in Congress that would abolish these forced arbitration clauses in consumer contracts. So contact your congressperson and senators and tell them to support the Forced Arbitration Injustice Repeal (FAIR) act.
And this November, vote for candidates who are on the side of *_consumers_* and *_workers,_* not the big corporations.
