Steph, Andrew, if you do visit India and desire street food, make sure you have an experienced local with you (regardless of whether you are in the North or the South). Street food can be risky unless you happen to go to the right spots/stalls.
I'm sure Jaby and Achara will be glad to guide you.

I'm living in kolkata. In my city at the office hour we found various type of food like Indian, south Indian, mughlai, Chinese, Tibetans available in every office places. They are called the place office para. In Esplanade, Dalhousie, Salt Lake sector 5 are those kind of office para. Kolkata is heaven of street food.
And my district where 80 90 percentage population is vegetarian

You could realistically spend 100$ on a day of snacks in any major cities in India. Bonus point, you don't have to spend on stupid stuff like Gold Leaf on food, Caviar or other stuff that artificially inflates value of food 😂You can taste actually good tasting food. Spending 100$ on food is what is considered rich and spoiled in India XD.
