I started a whole-food plant-based diet in 2018 and lost weight immediately without even trying, and over the course of about a year and a half, I steadily lost weight until I'd lost 32 pounds without effort. That amazed me because I had been dieting and trying to lose weight all my life and my weight had yoyo'd up and down for so, so long. When I went WFPB and stopped trying, then I lost all that weight! BUT I was still 10 pounds above my goal weight when I reached a plateau where I have been for about 1 year and a half. I haven't gained and I haven't put any real effort into losing but my body just stopped losing. I'm also approaching 70, and I'd like some advice from the good doctor, too, @kindcounselor.

I think you may be getting types 1 and 2 confused. They're discussing type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes works in a two-fold way--the pancreas starts to produces less insulin and at the same time the cells don't respond to insulin (insulin resistance). So for someone with a severe case of type 2 diabetes will sometimes inject insulin to add more insulin and hope their cells respond to a higher concentration of insulin, even though they are insulin resistant. People with type 1 diabetes produce no or very little insulin, but their cells respond to insulin just fine, meaning they inject insulin everyday. Type 1 diabetes isn't controlled by diet, only insulin injection. Only severe cases of type 2 diabetes inject insulin; most people with type 2 control their diabetes through diet and weight-loss.
@@ladiebug395 controlling their diet? If you mean eating less carbs and more fat, that is making you more diabetic, but showing less symptoms. So that is not a cure. And there is at least one case of someone who cured himself from diabetes 1. He started to run marathons. Anyway, eating saturated fats and trans fats and cholesterol is causing diabetes. So that is the first thing you should stop taking if you want to cure yourself. If you take insulin, your body stops making it. But my question is why people with even diabetes 2, who’s receiptors are blocked, find relieve by injection of insulin. So you are saying; more insulin will eventually make the receiptors work again? Dr. Neil Barnard is comparing the receiptors with a lock that has been blocked by chewing gum (fats) so if more insulin is used, the fats will not be able to block it any longer.
Robbie Barbaro loves fruit, & just about could live on only Fruit (whole organic awesome mother nature's gifts to us to eat much cleaner than cooked foods.

Can we eat 1 Avocado per day in plant based diet?
Yes
How lower my alt and sat on live panel
is 500 mcg b12 every other day okay?
Robbie Barbaro loves fruit, & just about could live on only Fruit (whole organic awesome mother nature's gifts to us to eat much cleaner than cooked foods.
Why do I need b12 if I am plant based? Why can’t I get all my nutrients without supplements?
B-12 is almost always supplemented nowdays so almost everyone gets it in this way. It's bacteria-made,it was once found in soil etc.
B12 is found in Meat and not in plants hence why you need to supplement it if you go vegan.
@@parmdeepjagdev8395 B-12 is not found in meat exclusively and it doesn't come from meat.
if you would pick and eat a good amount of fresh and unwashed wild herbs, treeleafs, mushrooms etc. grown on a healthy soil with the necessary bacteria all from the forrest, you wouldnt need a b12 supplement. I do this from time to time. But who else does this in our modern world?
@@parmdeepjagdev8395 the only reason there is B12 in meat is because they give the cows supplemental B12.
How about tofu?

Are there any studies of status of vitamin D among vegans?
Get some sun, 15 min a day.
@@rl9808 Lets suppose a person who eats whole-food-plant-based gets 15 minute of sun. Will they get the same level of D? The reason I am asking is that the currently recommended levels of D are based on population of meat-eater. Is it necessary for vegans to target the same level? Or could it be less?
@@igorbukanov1920 you should probably get a bit more with the lower cholesterol. Remember, lower cholesterol is not a good thing!

What is your weight? I'm the same height but skinny from 122 pounds to 125. The extra calories go to my belly sadly.
@@cigileyAtTR 137lbs. Fasting? Big mistake. I'm actually under weight but could be at 18.5 if I reach 140lbs which still isn't good enough. If all the weight goes to your belly, just rock it somehow. It will fill out your butt and limbs eventually.
@@godemperormeow8591 haha. Thanks for your thoughts. Your probably right and it's mentally hard to gain belly weight but I've been doing it. After my ankle sprain heals I will be back to eating a lot of food again. Experimenting makes life fun.
Is a cholesterol level of 115 too low?
no. can't be too low unless you have genetic problem. The lower the better. Especially LDL.
Wow, that is an excellent cholesterol. How did you achieve it? 👏
That’s low

@@donwinston awesome, thanks!🌱👏🏻

I think Dr. B has some bacon stored in his cheeks.
Why only B12 & not a B complex?
Supplements are harmful to body. Supplement B12 is harmful too but lack of it is more harmful to body. So other Bs nutrition should directly come from food!

Sorry. That's not true. I'm vegan and i know that you can get saturated fat on a vegan diet. 🥥 coconut milk, 🌴 palm oil and even nuts can have a tiny bit of saturated fat EVEN THOUGH it's minimal.
So by saying saturated fat only comes from animal products is not true.
Could you please 🙏 discuss the pros and cons of plant based saturated fat even though the amounts they contain are substantially lower than animal products. Thank you kindly and I don't want it to sound like I don't enjoy the podcasts. I love them but, you have got to talk about a subject FULLY. If you don't, then the due hard, refuse to listen non vegans will pick holes. Don't give them the opportunity.
No disrespect intended. Just a disturbing observation. If this is a healthy lifestyle then why does Dr. Barnard looks so emaciated???
The low carb people have new studies where are your studies???
Yes theres studies. No they didnt list them here. No I dont have the links saved.
Dr. Barnard is the best!
