One thing that's helped me is to get rid of all mint, even tooth paste. Hard to find, but worth it. One day I was reading that mint relaxes the muscle that keeps food in your stomach. So, I said, why not try it. I stopped using mint for anything. It worked. Every now and then I give in and try some tooth paste that has mint in it, and sure enough, it comes back. Hope someone gets some help from this amazing finding.

Small bland meals seem to make the most sense. It's gentle on your digestive system which has been compromised by a weak anti reflux system. Get the food in and out of your stomach as fast as possible. Fiber has it's place but too much fiber slows digestion and is hard on the digestive system. The blander the better, as low fat as possible, low acid no spice. This gives your whole system a chance to heal. Look into bland diets and what foods are considered bland.

Another thing that can let the acid back up, is a hiatus hernia or the ileocecal valve is not closing.
Look on you tube for demonstration of how to correct.
For hiatus hernia can do the lay down, fist on stomach, 4 deep lower belly breaths, on 4th one cough on exhale while forcing fist toward toes & same for illeocecal valve only fist on ileocecal valve.
Another help for hiatus hernia correction is drink a quart/liter golf water, all at once, on empty stomach (to create weight) then quickly clasp hands on top of head and lift yourself up on tip toes and drop heals down onto floor 5 times & where weight will pull stomach back down where it blows instead of pushing up against esophagus

I had an experience where my system completely shut down because of taking too many antiacids. Since then I decided to try and figure out what triggered me versus just taking antacids. Too many people are just taking the pills. I know I can't eat dry carbs of any kind after 6-7pm or eat too much without risk. I also had to stop bagels and coffee - now I am following the WFPBD - no flour and have not had this issue at all. And I do drink coffee LOL but no dairy.

This is helpful! I never get the time right on eating where especially with long prep and cook time foods like bread. I have to start it earlier. Still, I already solved many behaviors related to heartburn including no alcohol and low fat with whole food-plant based. Small changes in planning can be made so I fix eating before sleeping, but habits take time.
By the way, there's a little known medical term for the subpopulation that has chronic heartburn issues, and it is called gerd herd. Get it? Get it? 👍😁😨🤣

About making sourdough bread.. I give it 10 hours. First feed the starter and place in oven ( with the oven light on ) for 3 hours. Then mix the starter with your other bread ingredients and knead the dough. After kneading place dough in the warm oven for 3 hours. Then form the raised dough into pita size pieces, cover with wax paper and put in the warm oven for 3 hours. After this last raising Remove the wax paper and bake for about 20 minutes at 425 degrees Fahrenheit. So if you start at 6 am then you should have fresh bread by 4 pm. P. S. Use fruit juice instead of water for a nicer flavor.

Trying the elimination diet from now on and cutting out coffee, chocolate, flour, oils and tea alltogether. Hopefully this will help. For me I feel like too much fiber and especially raw foods are causing more problems, as well as big portion sizes. I will reduce the portions and start cooking all vegetables very well, and only eat bland foods, I'm desperate.

in my experience spicy and acidic foods are not the cause of acid reflux but they make the symptoms worse if you already have it. The cause is simply high protein and high fat foods causing the lower esophageal sphincter to relax and open. Once you have solved the actual problem and stop eating these foods, you can in my experience eat as much acidic and spicy foods as you want, because the sphincter remains closed between meals so no matter how acidic your stomach acid is it doesnt matter because it's contained within your stomach where it's supposed to be. And yes even plant based foods that are high in fat and/or protein cause this, the worst offender in my experience being fatty fried foods like french fries combined with high protein foods like fake soy meats etc.
