    I've been a healthy vegan for many years, and I eat organic fruits and vegetables with sugar coming from fruit/vegetables and rarely ever eat snacks and no packaged foods (no bread, no pasta, no cereal, no white rice, rarely brown rice, rarely potatoes, mostly "anti-inflammatory" foods, rarely olive oil, rarely juice, rarely honey) . I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. I'm sure if I weren't vegan it'd be worse, but it isn't 100% true that a whole plant food diet will keep EVERYONE away from an autoimmune disorder.

    • @andreagomez8757
      @andreagomez8757 Год назад

      If you're eating honey you're not on a vegan diet. Concentrated oil can cause inflammatory reactions. You could have allergies as well.During the podcast the distinction was made between a WFPB diet and a vegan diet. Also, no one is claiming that a vegan diet is a panacea but that there is a lot of supporting evidence that show a WFPB diet can reduce or eliminate autoimmune disorders.

      I'm wondering if you were exposed to toxic levels of chemicals - aluminum, mercury, lead, etc. It's the chemicals in processed foods, I believe, that are the real culprets in processed foods.

    I eat a 100% unprocessed vegan diet, and this has been a real concern, eating enough. And I settled on a very simple habit. Eating lots of cooked beans. I cook them from dry, in my Instant Pot, every day.
    I used to be overweight, just a few pants sizes, but I had metabolic trouble. But now, I am very slim. I'm at Walter Kempner's weight chart ideal weight. That is really slim. Male, 6'2" 165 pounds. Long story short, I need beans. I eat 1200 calories of beans every day, and if I didn't, I would have become underweight, and gone back to eating meat a long time ago. I have GOT to have beans.
    Beans satisfy: appetite, protein, minerals, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids. I add low protein starches like sweet potatoes; some greens, fruit, and other assorted whole plant foods, and I KNOW I have eaten enough to maintain my weight. They are by far my favorite thing to eat. Beans and greens are an unbeatable combo, by the way.

    • @ankitdiwan
      @ankitdiwan 2 года назад +1

      Apart from beans, what else do you eat? How many total calories you are able to get daily to be able to maintain the same weight?
      I am kind of going through the phase where I have been losing weight, and recently decided to try increasing the potato, green peas and dates intake. Any suggestions apart from beans?

    • @peter5.056
      @peter5.056 2 года назад +5

      @@ankitdiwan I eat about 3,800 calories a day. Beans are the center of my diet. I do eat all the other starches, of course. right now, I'm eating black lentil tomato soup with brown rice. i have juuuust a whisper (a teaspoon in the whole gallon) of olive oil in it, for extra flavor, along with fresh ground spices and basil. I ate broccoli before, and I'll have sweet potatoes later. that's basically how i eat all the time. (I'm soaking pinto beans right now, 2 pounds, which I will eat as dip, the next few days.)
      I also like to make Ezekiel bread from grains and legumes I sprout.
      My lentil soup was a bit light, even though I ate all 4 quarts of it. As soon as I have room for more, I'll have some other legume, or maybe some white potatoes....I might be in the mood for a pinto bean dip, for raw veggies;) [edit, I'm going to have white potato wedges, lightly air fried. Second to beans, I gotta have my potatoes!]
      We're having a heat wAve right now, and in the heat, i tend to eat chilled bean dip (homemade of course) dipped deeply into with ice cold raw veggies. I'm probably going to eat literally nothing but cold bean dips, veggies, chilled potato salads with sweet (i use dates for that) mustard dressing, and fresh fruits, this whole month. I might add that homemade Ezekiel bread to it, too. I am eating hot soup right now, and I'm really not feeling it. I might give up the hot soups until October...
      Tomorrow I'm going to eat a watermelon, too;) And the watermelon rind, I peel and blend it into a cold drink with strawberries;)
      I eat around 3,800 calories per day, just tp maintain my weight. But since I'm eating almost 100% unprocessed stuff, I think I absorb less of it. If I was eating pastas, and breads made from flour (my homemade bread is ground directly from whole wet grains and is only partially turned into dough, ) I'd need less calories.
      I'm not big into fatty foods. Though I do have walnuts every couple of months, a 2 pound bag that I just snack on over a day or two. That makes me gain some bodyfat, but it doesn't do a thing for my muscle mass; for that I need the beans. I strongly suspect beans increase my muscle mass, and also increase my physical stamina.
      To prevent weight loss, I would eat any starch over going back to animal foods. Intact is better. But I would eat any starch, as long as it's "whole" food. Whole wheat bread, even storebought, I would eat it, if there was nothing else. Whole grain pastas, rolled oats, even something like white rice or white pasta if it's going together with beans and veggies;)
      Now as far as dried fruit....I typically don't eat it by itself, as it just doesn't make me feel good. It dehydrates me, and I usually don't eat it.

    • @peter5.056
      @peter5.056 2 года назад

      @@ankitdiwan Today (the day after my latest comment) I ate those pinto beans with brown rice, with a 500g heap of steamed broccoli. I ate 2400 calories of brown rice, 1200 calories of beans, and 170 calories of broccoli. That's pretty much all I had.
      Though, I'm having an extra helping of the brown rice, with a few ounces of West Soy Soymilk in it....absolutely delicious combo. I might open a can of pumpkin, and take a few spoonsful of it, just for nutritional reasons - it won't taste good, but it's easy to swallow, and usually what I reach for to boost my carotenoid intake, especially during hot weather, where I try to cook as little as possible;) Sometimes I reach for a small can of tomato paste and just eat it with a spoon. Canned pumpkin and tomato paste are great to have on hand, for a quick boost of carotenoids at the end of the day;)

      @@ankitdiwan If you have an instant pot try whole grains. Barley, spelt, rye, kamut, etc. I cook 6 different ones together and then add them to almost everything. So healthy and helps to fill the belly. Or morning oats. I eat tons and some days it is amazing how many different things you can add if you are using the instant pot.

      I'm 5'2" 98 pounds. Not super thin, but slightly underweight. I was also overweight and started to change my diet to eat healthier more four years ago. I just restarted plant based when I realized that Keto was impossible for me. I love fruit and I couldn't eat less tha 125 grams carbohydrate a day.
      Now, I'm eating around four hundred grams of carbohydrates. I haven't got to totally plant based. I'm reading Mastering Diabetes and it says to make the transitions slowly so I probably won't be fully plant based for a couple more months if I decide to go that way. Until then, I'm going eat to continue to eat lots of fruit and vegetables.

I used be dying of asthma, and now, I have a very mild case of it. My albuterol intake went from 8 doses per day, to half a dose per day. I hope this message is seen, responded to and acted upon as soon as possible. I live in Topeka, KS and just a moment ago, on the evening news with Lester Holt, they featured a piece on how to reverse Type 2 diabetes:by eating eggs/meat, sighting sugar and carbs as the cause. I hope all you plant based doctors counter this by contacting and offering to go on the news to strike this garbage down. I don't understand why we aren't seeing any of you on these programs or why these news platforms aren't reaching out to you. Please consider countering and correcting this. I thank you for all you do.

There’s usually a commercial or something selling when they cut to the commercial. Wow, such bad-mouthing pasta. I can't listen anymore without commenting. Folks need to learn how to read labels. Without getting into detail on that - if you select the pastas made from beans and legumes there is a ton of fiber in them. They are super healthy- and, believe it or not, are low glycemic too. Here's how: take the carb number and divide the grams of fiber into it. You're looking for a product of 5 or less. Many legume pastas are around 3. Yes, the whole wheat, brown rice, and of course "enriched" flour kinds of pasta are all too processed, unfortunately.

    Everything in context. When I eat pasta it is generally in a sauce with a huge amount of veggies and herbs and then for the other half of the plate is some sort or salad or veggie. And then I might throw on some cooked grains into the mix of my plate. With avocado it seems to be just on toast. So my preference is pasta all the way. Don't eat it on a regular basis and so I never sweat the small stuff.

I get the big 8 pound bags of pinto beans for 6 bucks. Organic or not? I don't care. The fiber is gonna carry out any pesticide/herbicide residues that are in there. I suspect the same goes for the rice. The arsenic residue isn't gonna cause cancer, if the rest of the diet is correct, as tangentially evidenced by T Colin Campbell's travails in Asia.

But guess what...when I was obese I bothered myself about my physique. And now!...people bother me about my physique? Tf? Good thing that I know what's right for me and what I want :D

      @@nick55ification I'm glad to hear that, you must be proud of yourself. It can a constant challenge to choose what's right to eat.
      For the last 2 months, I start the day with some beans, I add no extra oils to anything. No nuts, no avocados, no breads, no pasta.
      I've lost around 10 pounds. I'm still plant based but you know... it's in the details.
      If I want to indulge myself in food , I prepare myself a big bowl of cucumber salad with chia seeds sprinkled on it🙈
      or hahah eat 1/2 a watermelon mukbang style knowing that it's less than 700 calories.
      (which makes 1/2 a large Big Mac meal in calories, and keeps me so full instead)
      I still watch it to keep it around 2000 cals.

      @@greendsnow you have great taste!
      How, what and when I eat depends all on my goals. I'm losing fat, building muscle and studying.
      So when wake up to break my fast with oats and fruit and also a couple spoons of nuts/seeds bc sugar/starch with fat is very pleasurable. Due to the carb depletion overnight I want carbs and sugar (aka something sweet). Also, I use those carbs 4 hours later to strength train. The nuts and seeds just pair nicely with sweets imo. Lastly it gets me excited to wake up early/ontime. Haha.
      After the workout I eat vegetables like bok choy/kale for the calcium and any other vegetable like the cruciferous ones most importantly. Then, beans/legumes/pulses for protein.
      I repeat the same lunch for dinner only bc I'm a masters student living alone in a foreign country trying to limit decisions.
      But I do like to alternate my grains and legumes by the week sometimes. There're so many options.

    Crispy Kreme chocolate chips ahoy doughnut is 400 cal. So you would only need to eat 25 of them to reach 10k calories. SMH

      You would have to eat 50 pounds of kale to hit 10,000 cal. What’s your point? Five donuts would be your whole calories for one day though.if you had one donut every day now you have 500 cal per day times seven days a week 1 pound gain. Using sugar, fat and salt. Yes salt there’s salt in Krispy Kreme donuts. Better to addict you says the wolf.💪🏻

      Like everything else everything is a bell shaped curve. There are people who eat too much on a plant-based diet, and there are people who can’t. The majority people have no problems. The people on the ends of the curve do.💪🏻

    Remember everyone it is not a choice between WFPB or SAD. There are other options, I think if I ate the way he recommends my colon would explode, I can't eat fiber myself. Paleo with regenerative farmed meat has done wonders for my husband and me. Cholesterol and A1C are now in normal range and weight loss has just happened without trying at all, while eating an outrageous number of calories.

      @@peter5.056 Who are you to tell me I am hurting myself? You magickly know everything I have tried or the nightmare I lived for 3 years going from doctor to doctor and none of them had an answer? Fiber sits in my colon and dose NOT move, talk about rotting food in your gut, try getting that sick. I think eating a high fiber vegetarian diet was hurting myself. Vegans wonder why others think they are arrogant. You all presume to know what everyone can and should eat because that is the way you do, so it is the best way. Not everyone on this planet is the same, we are all individuals and require an individual diet, example peanuts! My comment was about reminding people they do have a choice.
      A lot of these WFPB doctors are SELLING you a line, they have zero proof and are not interested in finding proof about most of the claims they make.
      NEVER EVER be so arrogant to presume to know what someone else should eat until you have lived in that body!!!

    Excuse me for playing The devil's advocate but the animal herbivores get their strength and the muscle tissue and other parts of their anatomy from eating plants which are not digestible by humans - like grass and various leaves from various trees.
    We humans are limited to a very small number of different kinds of plants that we and the animals of course, can eat.

    • @RichS.73yroldbodybuilder
      @RichS.73yroldbodybuilder Год назад +2

      If you don’t think that humans are herbivores look at your teeth. Do you have teeth like a cat? Do you have large canines coming down to tear pieces of meat in half. Do you have a stomach acid to only eat 2 to times a week After eating large chunks of meat ? You have chewing and grinding teeth. Because of the natural things we used to get in foods are not available anymore because of sanitary issues with our food , supplementation can be used. Other than that there are no problems getting enough nutrients in your daily diet. I’m 72 a bodybuilder I have no issues at all. I eat more beans, some tofu and higher protein grains, but not much ,only 20% more than the advised requirement.💪🏻

    It's simply false to suggest that people burn fat first then muscle. That's not how weight loss works. Please consult with actual research into this issue instead of making stuff up.
