I'm a 57 yr old male, have worked out daily most of my life, Powerliflting, strongman and bodybuilding and have tried every imaginable diet and eating protocol you can think of. Keto was good but something was lacking. Did carnivore for 3-4 month stretches on 3 different occasions with great results but again was not firing on all cylinders but only when I add more fibre (berries, oats, sweet potato, honey etc) is when I feel my optimal in strength, endurance, mental clarity and recovery. My weight is down and leaner than in my 30s. I think some people based on their gut microbes can consume more carbs and live a more healthy life. I get my blood work done every 3 months and I am healthier now than I was in my 30s. Every blood marker is perfectly in the healthy range.
Good to hear, well done. I'm 10 years younger healthy enough. Eat primarily keto/carnivore for the last 6 years, resolved many many issues with my health. I can eat berries... Certainly not oats, due to the high carb content, and obviously no honey... But I hear this is a good way to go now.

I love green bananas. I grew up eating lots of them in soups, mashed and sauteed with onions and garlic, add a dash of sour cream, yummy. Then again, I was raised in a banana-producing country. Plantains I used to eat a lot, cooked or fried with refried beans, cheese, and sour cream. I cut back on them and many other foods like legumes when I was diagnosed with prediabetes. Dr. Paul Mason, Dr Bart kay, very educated couple of doctors, has great talk about fiber. We need fat and protein, that's something we know. Don't need carbohydrates, including fiber. Also wondering why is it that when doing a real world blood sugar test after resistant starch, it reflects a blood sugar increase nearly identical to non resistant starches?
Yes, chlorine kills harmful bacteria in water, so it makes municipal water safe to drink, but drinking it straight from the tap can contribute to killing off bacteria in the gut. You can filter your water or leave it out for 24 hours before drinking to allow chlorine to evaporate out. To filter fluoride, you would need to have a specialized filter.
I always back off a little when comparisons are made between our "early ancestors, hunter/gatherers" and us today. That's a LOT of time, with lots of processed food in between. Humans were cooking, mashing, spicing, grinding and adding preservatives to food for thousands of years before we did. i think we have had plenty of time to adapt and adjust. Not to mention the difference between foods "back then" and what was needed to digest them.
There's another layer of difference between us and our ancestors and that is CHEMICALS and monocropping. Never mind how to prepare the food, What we get now is tainted and stripped of nutrition before it even gets to the store or the kitchen. Even just since the 90's when herbicides like glyphosate were introduced, the epidemic of gut diseases has skyrocketed. Check out analyst Dr. Stephanie Seneff or Dr. Zach Bush for more info on that.

I love fried green plantains but, every time I eat them my blood sugar spikes to 150 to 200. It takes me a day or two for my sugar to level out. Does this mean that I have a sensitivity to plantains.
it is more likely because they are fried. plantains are high in sugar, but its packaged in fruit fiber, so eating them on their own is not a bad thing. but when they are fried, they become saturated with oil. oil in high amounts interferes with insulins ability to take the sugar from your bloodstream and put it in your cells where it belongs. so it gets trapped in your blood, thus the high blood sugar levels that take some time to resolve as your body deals with the oil. try using just a tiny amount of oil instead. This goes for any combination of sugar + oil. eating foods high in both sugar and oil is one of the main pathways leading towards developing type 2 diabetes.

Biggest hustle I’ve heard from him. He must be in debt. Ridiculous cost for easily accessible items. Like he said If you’re traveling but day to day crazy.
What about the Masai tribe? They eat primarily meat, milk and blood. Very little fiber. Fiber would only be in large quantities in things like fruit which was only available in season in most places. Our ancestors weren’t chomping on high quantities of vegetables.
That's actually not true. Most of our ancestors WERE chomping on high quantities of plant material. The Masai are a special example that didn't--- and they have most likely evolved to adapt to that . Most ancestral diets were actually very high in fiber and plant material and low--- though not zero--- meat. A modern example would be the Yanomami people in the Amazon. They are one of the last tribes still living as hunter-gatherers, so they approximate our ancestral diets, and the amount of fiber in their diets is dramatically higher than modern diets. They also consume less than 100 mg of sodium per day, whereas in the US that average is about 3500 mg. They do eat some meat and fish, but most of their diet is plantains, cassava and fruit. Google Yanomami Johns Hopkins to read the details of the study on the Yanomami's diet.
Someone what are the tests they mentioned to test for the bacterial over growth in stool to help see what’s causing the root issue of gut imbalance? It was hard to hear with the over talking 😢
Oh come on. How can this doc say we ate that much fiber in the past when carnivore docs like Chaffee and Berry say we didn't. Can't all of you medical docs get together and figure it out so we regular people aren't bombarded with opposing views?!

As always your talks are food for thought. Question. I agree on the importance of breastfeeding for gut health ( and much more). You talk about short chain fatty acids in relation to prebiotic bit human milk is rich in long chain fatty acids. Please explain more. Thank you much.
this question is about managing symptoms, start researching and dealing with root of the problem. not clear what you mean by "bacteria overgrowth" ? DO you mean yeast overgrowth? or bad bacteria overtaking the good gut bacteria? in either case one must heal the gut. Change the diet, not just manage it. The information is available, you have to be willing to make changes. Clear the processed and sugar laden foods for whole food

They lack the proper exposure to the mother's microbiome that occurs through vaginal delivery. The squeeze of the uterus also plays a role in proper microbiome of the newborn. There are other things such as headaches due to the lack of squeeze on the cranial plates. Think natural vs artificial. That said, of course c-sections have a place and saves lives. $99 for 30 servings is nuts!
Biggest hustle I’ve heard from him. He must be in debt. Ridiculous cost for easily accessible items. Like he said If you’re traveling but day to day crazy.
I actually prefer mildly green bananas!
I want everything I need in one powder. Pre and probiotic. And all those exotic veggies you mentioned. Cause I don't cook. Can I get that???
Kachava
Irregardless, is not a word.
Just fyi, Queens University is in Charlotte, NORTH Carolina. 😊
Love all your content, I've learned so much. I'm wondering if there are alternatives to antibiotics when your kiddos get strep throat, etc. Thanks!
real elderberry syrup, colloidal silver, oregano oil tincture, moringa, tulsi, true vitamin c from amla, acerola, camu berry to name a few
He mentioned cacao as a prebiotic but I read recently that all cocoa has heavy metals cadmium and less 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Great content. So true.
Someone what are the tests they mentioned to test for the bacterial over growth in stool to help see what’s causing the root issue of gut imbalance? It was hard to hear with the over talking 😢
Help! I have to eat low FODMAP. So many of these good foods cause me real distress. Can you do a low-FODMAP version?
Are ear infections in adults connected with dairy also?
Oh come on. How can this doc say we ate that much fiber in the past when carnivore docs like Chaffee and Berry say we didn't. Can't all of you medical docs get together and figure it out so we regular people aren't bombarded with opposing views?!
Love Dr. Hyman but I wish that when he talked about breast and bottle feeding he would qualify that sometimes breast feeding just isn’t possible.
I couldn’t breastfeed, I had breast pump I could borrow from the hospital, so my son got the breast milk the first 6 months. I felt like a cow…..That was 28 years ago in Sweden 🇸🇪
Pomegranat ( رمان)and olives (زيتون) is mentioned in Quran ,as God make it for us as human beings.
Branch chain amino acids and vagus nerve stimulation daily
It's Charlotte North Carolina Dr.
When was this topic created ??
The date should be in the title area.
Doctor, please help!! I have Sibo and Fructose Intolerance,,,should I then still take Probiotics and Prebiotics? Please please please, what is your opinion. I also have Bile issues. Since im older im a hot mess GI wise.
Never want to eat the hairy parts in the middle... hopefully this will be mentioned in the upcoming Hyman cook book!
As always your talks are food for thought. Question. I agree on the importance of breastfeeding for gut health ( and much more). You talk about short chain fatty acids in relation to prebiotic bit human milk is rich in long chain fatty acids. Please explain more. Thank you much.
What ever products you have its still a processing things that you consume.
Thank you Dr.Hyman 😊
.....So fighting bacteria overgrowth. Oregano oil? What to use?
this question is about managing symptoms, start researching and dealing with root of the problem. not clear what you mean by "bacteria overgrowth" ? DO you mean yeast overgrowth? or bad bacteria overtaking the good gut bacteria? in either case one must heal the gut. Change the diet, not just manage it. The information is available, you have to be willing to make changes. Clear the processed and sugar laden foods for whole food
THANK YOU !
How to stop an acid blocker? @53:15
Back to the thumbnail and title, yes eating to lose weight every day is truly insane.
What’s the correlation between a c section and a bad gut?
C sections save lives. Ridiculous claim that if performed in a sterile environment, they are bad for us.
@@christydolan6449 I think it’s become a choice, these days, rather than having a c-section out of necessity. I had 2 emergency c-sections, and indeed would have died had I not had them. Many women elect to have one, I don’t agree with this.
The problem is they are over utilized outside the bounds of necessity.
@@christydolan6449Not ab the mother . Vaginal deliveries benefit the BABY due to special protective bacteria they are exposed to during labor and esp the final birth . Breast feeding baby then completes that extraordinary blueprint designed by Mother Nature . Awesome start for baby’s future health and well being
Shirataki noodles are fab!
I remember reading/hearing the butter is high in butyrate.
Doctor my son in law has Crohn's disease and has to have his 13th operation because of a fistula between his upper and lower intestines can you recommend a diet that can help him with this condition? Thank you so much!I appreciate your videos and information
I have heard water fasting is great for this. I had a fried do ginger tea for two weeks all excess weight and symptoms were gone.!
You are unlikely to get a reply from him. Have you considered low dose naltrexone? An elemental diet may help. Dr ruschio has a good podcast and focuses a lot on gut health that is science based.
My sister has used the Specific Carbohydrate Diet that has helped her. The book is called Breaking The Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall B.A. M.Sc
Doctor, can you advise me please. I have been diagnosed with Sibo and Fructose intolerance,,,is it unwise then to take Probiotics and Prebiotics...please please can you tell me what do you think?
Ketogenic or Water Fasting my husband has a colitis he's been on keto for 4 years and Gone high blood pressure gone and Gerd Amazing how eating healthy diet can do with our body.
What are plantains?
To @AnniePerks: Bananas that are used in cooking. They are not as tasty as regular bananas, if eaten uncooked.
He looks exhausted. You think he'd fix his diet that so he'd get more energy.
I agree and that scruffy beard makes him look older and is not a good look for him. (Just my opinion.)
We all get tired it's normal 🤭
@@gracefulindeed6091 it's common but it's not normal and it's not healthy.
@@kyron42 I'm assuming Dr.Hyman is too busy to address your concerns about his health
Someone watch this video and list for me the three foods in the comments. Thanks

Kava Kava Root, Cannabis Flowers, and Organic Unwashed Opium Poppy Seeds.

Does Limosilactobacillus fermentum do anything good for the body?
Interesting that he mentioned lack of breastfeeding. We know now how important breastfeeding is and how baby formula is no good for the children.
Yes boob food = real FOOD and needed nourishmeant
Green plantains or ripe/black plantains?
This same son in law has 2 children with my daughter that have autism is there any dietary changes that they can do to help them?
Look for Dr Kathrine Ried she talks about autism .
I have seen many parents going gluten free, especially children with autism.
@@saynfglyphosaten free
Try fasting for autophagy to heal the body. There is solid evidence linking autism to gut microbiome health and guess what… vaccines are affecting this.
Stool testing, check for intestinal dysbiosis. Stop gluten , stop dairy.
I am taking Align gummy pre and pro biotic. It calls for 1 twice a,day. I take 1 every 3 days and end up with diarrhea for 2 days. What am I missing.
Gymnema restores blood sugar and prevents sugar addiction (it's from India, an herb)
Can u recommend a good functional medicine Dr in Kansas? Thank you
Fear and uncertainty create major wealth. It's those who take the risk and have strong gut to endure the bloody days. When i notice extreme dips i tend to actually move more money to crypto
Yeah!! Due to the fall in the stock market, I don't think it's advisable holding, it would be more beneficial and yield more profit if you actually trade on cryptocurrency I've been trading since the dip, and I've made so much profit trading.
That's why you need the help of a professional like Mr Jesse Powell who trade and understand the market more to earn good income, these professionals understand the market like it's there own farm and make s maximum profit for investors.
Same here, i will praise mr Jesse Powell over and over again because he has great skills, i started with $2000 and after 2week i received a returns of $6,000 then i continue with him ever since he has been delivering.
Please how can I contact Mr. Jesse Powell? I really like what he has done for you, and I also want to benefit from it.
@Lily Hulme-Moir Thanks, I also needed his info too, a friend once told me about Jesse Powell then I wasn't interested but I think I'm giving it a try now
What about eating pro and pre biotics.
What does having the c section do to your got health. I did not have a section when I was pregnant with my children but I did have a hysterectomy and my health went downhill after that.
Wendy Jordan, I’m so sorry you had to do a hysterectomy.
Having a vaginal birth gives the child god bacteria, and a god gut microbiom. 🇸🇪
so in the age of gene editing they cannot just take bacteria samples from the mother and contaminate the newborn manually? do women still need to brake their pelvic floor and be blamed for choosing/needing a C section? @martinasikk6162
I take pre and pro biotic supplements will these help or Hindrance
GREEN BANANAS ARE NOT WELL DIGESTED UNLESS YOU COOK THEM. IN THE CARIBBEAN WE BOIL THEM. SAME THING W/ PLANTAINS WHICH YOU CAN BAKE OR FRY. OF COURSE FRYING IS NOT HEALTHY. BUT U CAN USE THE AIR FRYER.

Do you recommend to take a butyrate supplement if you have IBS?
The same thing happened to me when I went to the dentist and they gave me erythromycin
Dr Hyman did not give his guest any chance to tell her story. Very annoying to have so many interruptions

What multivitamin does Dr Hyman recommend?
Never put carbs and fat together
Dude, for the person who wants to put a toe in the water of pre-biotics, you suggest a Japanese noodle 🤔. Perhaps suggesting something that’s more accessible to an undiscerning yet aspiring mind.
