The tip for finding the ruins at 10:14 was originally told to me by someone in my twitch chat while recording this video, unknown to me at the time @CarrionPorkus had made a video describing this tactic long before my video and it’s very likely that the twitch chatter who told me about the tip had seen @CarrionPorkus video before relaying it to me. If it were me today back then I would have credited @CarrionPorkus once I learnt of his video, but unfortunately I did not; now the description credits @CarrionPorkus for his finding and I have made amends with him privately, this type of accidental plagiarism is still plagiarism and thus I have credited @CarrionPorkus . Thank you for understanding! They changed the ruins generation/layout slightly so I may remake this video; 95% of the video is still accurate though! You can no longer cheese ancient guardian. Things I missed: - I look at the map while moving by clicking to walk then opening the map after, therefore I continue walking while looking at the map. - You can raid the archives for extra thulecite & thulecite fragments but no gems. - You can repair clockworks with gears to have clockwork allies to fight with you (on average it will cost you gears).
the ruins is like the jungle in early terraria because of 3 reasons 1. you can do it very early with little to no resources 2. it contains very good recources that can be used against other things outisde of that zone 3. it is good against the eye of cthulu
@@sparkdemon1115 funny how you say this now as DST has many more bossifghts that are after the ancient shadow weaver so this wouldve been a good point when i commented this but not now
Actually comprehensive and super helpful in ways other guides aren't. Everything else I've seen have been quite basic but this has so many great tips thank you!
I have over 1k hrs in this game and I never knew there was a guaranteed way of finding the ruins just based on learning where the sinkholes were. Thank you for that! Also learning I can duplicate living logs from clubs is nice too! So glad klei added the mushgnomes for living logs instead of waiting for tree guards or poison birchnuts. You sir, have earned a sub!
I'm about to get Dont Starve again after quite a long time of not having this and i can't even express my gratitude for this video. The Ruins were the one place i avoided most because they terrified me, and there was just so much information to try and learn.. to have such a clear and comprehensive video going over the whole thing gives me a newfound confidence in tackling this strange part of Dont Starve 😁
Ik this vid is a few months old but I just wanted to say this worked *flawlessly.* Went to the caves, used the entrances I had discovered thus far to find the line, found the ruins. 10/10 guide, helped me ruins rush for my first time! Keep up the great vids Jakey!
Recently I've been getting into the game, and the tips on finding the ruins are incredible. getting a lot of healing food is annoying so knowing where enemies are just by looking at the position of statues and broken clockworks are just life savers. 100% going to use these on my next run. Thanks!
As someone that has had this game on my steam library and honestly didnt know where to start, I gotta say, these guides have helped me a ton to actually survive and thrive while playing, tysm for the effort you put in the guides!
Wow, nice I thought I was the only one who goes down to a cave and goes back to approximately map the ruins, that's the best tip someone could give If u wanna look for them.
i recently got into the game after owning but not playing it for awhile, now i got like 7 of my friends to get it and it's so much fun! Thanks for making these guides they all help so much.
Love the don't starve content, you are making me want to get back into it after not playing it for years and i'm glad you are branching out. Could you do an in depth farming/crock pot video to show how to get enough food for your first year? you said something about it in an earlier video but there hasn't been any real good guides on it, just the new farming update showcases. (still don't even know how to till the soil its that bad looking for one) I don't need a Don't Starve copy or cosmetics, make sure you give it to someone who would make good use of it!
If I don’t remember wrong his beginner’s guide covers that aspect and shows how to get enough food and resources to get through your first year, it even shows how to know where to base and a good line up for your base, if you haven’t seen it I would recommend checking it out. Edit: forgot to say, he only touches this theme on a surface level and recommends checking other in depth guides such as the farming guide from James bucket, and shows some useful crockpot recipes, I haven’t seen a good in depth crockpot guide so one in full depth would be cool
Build a garden hoe to till the turf after you use a garden digamajig. Pop seeds in the tilled spots, ideally you till 3x3 and have 9 seeds in one plot. Talk to each planted seed once. Go do whatever else you need to for a few days until they grow. Your goal from here is to get crops of the same type planted next to each other to get a family bonus, do this by feeding desired crops to bird. Once you have a plot full of the same crops it is self sustaining as long as you talk to planted crops at least once. This is the lazy method and won't yield giant crops but it will still provide infinite food and allow you to very quickly expand your farm as much as you want.
I really love the effort that went into this guide, especially how you broke things into different options for different ruins rush goals with raw footage for each. For someone like me who's recently gotten into DST but still not the most knowledgeable or experienced, it's especially useful to see something like uncut footage included to watch everything you're saying actually be put into practice from day 1. I also appreciated the way you mapped out the layout of the caves, since before I really had no idea how they were formatted. And the tip about following the divider line is definitely gonna come in handy for me. Keep up the good work! If I happen to win the giveaway, I'll take copy of DST, but I want to give it to my friend instead of me if thats ok
Appreciate your content. Small suggestion for readability when making sections/lists: 1. Left justify so the starting place of the sentence is consistent. 2. Prefix your section with a number when in steps - if it's a video then include the timestamp *before* the section title. Compare the layout shown in the video at 0:34 with the following layout: 2:49 Why Rush the Ruins 6:04 Requirements 7:42 Finding the Ruins 13:31 Nightmare phases & Dangers 15:12 Avoiding Combat & Set pieces 25:07 Methods 25:52 What to craft 27:27 Final recommendations It's perhaps even more noticeable when used on a multiple point list at 13:40 for example: 6:00 - 7:30 Calm 1:30 - 3:00 Warning 2:30 - 4:00 Nightmare 1:00 - 2:30 Dawn
One strategy that I recommend is to before going to ruins, find the bunny village first. After you've destroyed all the bunny houses, you'll probably gather at keats 40 carrots. That's enough food to stay in the ruins for a few days.
This is the most comprehensive don’t starve tutorial I think I’ve ever seen. You have the ruins completely designed out in a multitude of incredible ways. Your suggestions on resource conservation, duplication, and management are probably my biggest Takeaway. All of the map stuff is super fun, if you’re doing a run like you described. But the adventuring part is probably my favorite. I look forward to watching more videos from you, and getting to see who wins the fun prizes on the 31st.
Recently been getting back into the game and those tips about how to find the ruins are gold I had absolutely no idea it worked like that, it is genuinely very cool to know that.
A couple days ago, I did my first ruins rush and was super underprepared. I love Wanda and her concept, but her gear requires thulecite. Having said that, this guide was super helpful and I have finally been able to play Wanda at her full potential. I really liked how the video was divided into different sections (requirements, finding the ruins, etc.), so that I could easily go back to what I missed. The "finding the ruins" section helped the most because that usually took way too many days. I also didn't know how many set pieces there were and how to tackle them. The information was very useful and concise which I liked. You are amazing and keep up the good work :) Requested Prize: DST Skin Chest.
Jake, this guide has being majorly useful, since , for me, finding and working on the ruins early has been a hard task, as I have been either stuck on finding, only finding too late, or then stuck on not dying.
There is also allways a small patch of blue mushrooms past the lichen indicating which village biome to look behind, there is also allways 1 sacred biome and 1 - 2 military biomes
Honestly, the most shocking thing i took away from this was the fact that you were able to fill the comments section with genuinely engaging topics. I've never seen anything like this before. Ever. You really have something special dude. I'm definitely going to try to do something similar! Edit: I had no idea monkey biomes were even a thing (my heart sank), or that the ruins spawned in such a specific location.
I have played alot of dont starve but for some reason i just have never been that knowledgeable about the ruins, this video helped me alot. Very fun and entertaining to watch aswell!
This was way more helpful than any other ruins rush guide I've seen so far, it goes into specifics but doesn't waste too much time on passing statements which makes everything so concise and to the point. This is why I always end up getting sucked into your speedrun videos because of how easy it is to listen and learn. This didn't even feel like a 30 minute video because of how you explained everything, thank you!
The tips about which set pieces to look out for in the ruins is quite helpful. This video is definitely one of the most helpful guides I have seen. I would like a DST game
The biggest thing not covered here that I can say is that you can repair the broken clockworks to make combat a little more manageable That WX should be taking way more fights than other characters and that ancient guardian is entirely cheesable if you get him stuck on a pillar or between two graves, your range is longer than his. Skins are cool, reposting in case my comment got deleted
By far the most helpful ruins guide! Your video gave me the courage to finally try the ruins rush (3k+ hour user here, embarrassingly lol). I appreciate all the details you put into this video
As a certified wilson main, i have never seen a better guide ever for ruins, appreciate it Jakeyosaurus for putting the work in this masterpiece. Preference: Skin chest
Your content has mad me like don't starve together way more than the original game, even though it is more based around team based gameplay to win, it's amazing and awesome how the whole game is still very much manageable by one player, I'll be it with increased micro and battle times
After watching your speedruns, its given me inspiration to play the game again, and I cant thank you enough for it. Don't Starve has become one of my favorite games of all time and holds a special place in my heart. I remember before I watched your content I had never defeated any of the bosses, not even Deerclops lmao. But after watching all you speedruns, I build the courage to at least fight the Eye of Terror, and I actually won. I thank you for getting me back into Dont Starve. Keep up the great content!
A couple tips I would give to new rushers: - you can walk on the void of the caves by placing two gate doors in a corner and closing them behind you. You can search "voidwalking bug" to see the exact placement, as it is a bit hard to explain with just words. To return to the land, just type "/rescue" on the regular chat. This can be used to skip the village/ monkey biomes during nightmare phase, although it's pretty cheesy - if you find a beefalo during early exploration you can bring it with you to the ruins for an easy time! Lardee has a great tutorial on easy early beefalo domestication and Cat Person has one on beefalo ruins rushing. Check them out! You can also use that beefalo for bossfights, as it will turn into an ornery beefalo (same dps as a darksword) once domesticated if you use it to kill the Ancient Guardian!
@@mlsanica7618 yeah, but at the end of the day it's just saving you the waiting time until the calm phase starts. You can also use it to locate the atrium, but it's as random as just killing the big tentacles
I'm loving your Dont Starve content! you make one hour seem so little with such quality. Loving the guides too, you do it at way that's enjoyable to watch and didatic still. Thanks for the tips on finding the ruins, I usually struggle to find the right branche of the muddy biome in my runs and the tips are already helping me. Skins would be nice to smash some bosses with style.
I’ve been trying to improve just getting to the ruins in general. This video really helped with that and when I look for it, it will probably take a lot less time. I also know a good way to find the archives now so that’s very nice.
I have 2 tips i'd like to share, one is not to underestimate shadow monkeys. Even 3 shadow monkeys can do some good damage to your armor and health. Another tip, is you might want to prebuild a campfire to cook blue mushrooms, to eat them before the ancient guardian fight to gain sanity. This is since if you are insane and are cheesing ancient guardian you'll be stuck between a pillar and a hard place. This even happened to jakey so its always good to stay sane during ancient guardian. I'd like a skin chest since I have dst already.
Me and a couple of my friends have been playing don't starve for a couple of weeks now and we were pretty confused about what the ruins were and how to find them, after we watched this guide we were able to find the ruins and get lots of the op stuff it has, this guide helped us a lot, and it was very fun to watch.
Try and imagine this: imagine rushing ruins and sacrificing 50 Living Logs and burning them for heat because you forgot your Thermal Stone then mining every statue, killing Ancient Guardian, and only making a Pick/Axe, then dying to a Slurper. Couldn’t be me
My friends made me buy DST back in 2017 but after a week or two they got bored so I'd try playing by myself. I've been playing it again recently after not touching it for a few years and your beginner's guide really helped me learn the updated content and just relearn the game in general. I wanted to attempt a ruins rush to try something new after coming back to Don't Starve and then I see this video on my recommended! I really appreciate your content and I'm happy to see other people thanking you as well!
I never knew about that line tip with the lightbulbs and rocks so that helps save a lot of time looking for the ruins so thanks you for that. A skin chest would be cool.
I don't have even DST and I still watch your videos, that's how entertaining you are, the videos are well edited and even hour long videos pass by in a blink of an eye. Honestly the game seems like you can go through it in like 20 hours but you can still have fun for a much longer time, so I will propably buy it on steam :) But first I will try to cheese it like you chessed the anscient guardian and try to win your giveaway ;) Keep up with the uploads, you are propably the best DST content creator right now.
Your DST content in YT is better everyday, this is probably the best ruins video I have seen. Even after years playing DST I love to see even the most basic guides because I always end up learning something, and my knowledge of the ruins is pretty basic so this helped a lot. I actually made a world after seeing this video just to rush the ruins haha. Also, not sure why but I had a bad first impression of yours in Twitch, but everyday I like more your content, keep the good job
Thank you very much! I used to be afraid of the ruins and run away from them. But after I watched your video, I plucked up the courage and still managed to get a lot of resources
i genuinely love the effort put into this edit note: best part is how much details you know about the ruins biome, its so amazing how u know each spawn and how they are like and such
Thank you for the guide! As someone with 200+ hours in dst but have always been to scared to enter the ruins I found this very helpful to approach this content.
I’ve never really understood ruins guides which has scared me off from doing anything there but this has shown that it’s actually a lot simpler than I thought. Thanks for the noob friendly guide :P And, why not, let’s see if I can get a skin chest
As someone who know how to rush ruin this is a very good vid show how to rush ruin. I will recommend this to my friends to let them have the same suffering with me Tip: if you are wanda you should smash the wall in the ruin and take thulecite fragment (there are thulecite wall in the ruin) don't need to craft wall and keep thulecite for other thing. Other than that this is good vid for new player learn to rush ruin. Still want dst skin tho.
My friends and I have been grinding our first world together (We've all played solo but aren't very advanced) and one of them is super interested in The Ruins, this video fixed every problem we were having. Its finally really exciting to get on and continue playing. Felt like we hit a platuea after our first Deerclops but you've really opened everything up for us, Thanks so much. You've got a new subscriber. Oh yeah I would love my first DST skin chest of I get chosen.
This is the greatest guide even just for finding the ruins that ive seen, it talks about a few non traditional methods and the diagram was also appreciated.
I have a friend who has DST and doesn't know much about the basics of ruins, so I told him how to find the ruins and what things to take with me, I also told him the tactics of the ancient guardians. Then I explained the phases to him, I rather played the part of the video to him because my explanations were a little worse. I also explained to him how avoiding combat and what he can produce. In the end, he didn't understand much, I'm not surprised when I explained it, but I think he understood. It was super helpful for my friends So I would like Don't Starve Together please.
Just the Finding the ruins part alone is better than most of the DST content on youtube if I win I would love a copy of DST(I want to play this game for so long but never could buy it)
Wow, this video is absolutely perfect... I've been struggling to efficiently rush the ruins with Wes for the past week! It is crazy that whenever I'm struggling with something in DST, it seems that you post a video for it. For example: I was struggling with beating fuel weaver with Wes, the next day you posted your Wolfgang boss rush that helped me finally take down fuel weaver... The part of this video that helped me the most was the part where you explained the set pieces... I only knew about the set piece with the two rooks and the bishop as well as the major ones (full ancient pseudoscience station, labyrinth, etc.) prior to watching this video and now that I know of the other set pieces I feel so much more confident navigating the ruins! I always feel weird asking for stuff but I would really appreciate a DST skin chest as I am really lacking in the skins department...
This was very useful cause I’ve always been scared of the ruins and never gone so knowing how they work and understanding the layout of some spots is very nice I want the dst skins please
thank you so much for making this video! i won't lie i started watching you just lately and i respect you so much, your guides and speedruns helped me so much, hell i was so bad at the game i couldn't survive through summer. thank you so much for making these guides and helping me and so many other people.
I really like this type of video! I probably will do my first ruins rush in the next couple of days, and this helped a lot! The guide on how to find the ruins was THE best one i've ever seen! I would like the DST skins :D
I used to play a lot with a friend but we were scared of the caves, now I'm really motivated to go back in the game and try to get past the ruins. Thanks for the guides you made, they have helped me a lot and make me want to play again after a long time
Thank you for helping me with ruins, I’ve been having trouble finding them, one time exploring literally the entire map and now understanding the size and how they work really understand how I should find them and get the good loot. Also I did not know what to do about ancient guardian
Honestly people always talked about the cave map generation and how to interpret it until I saw this video, this helped me understand it so much you had such a great way of explaining it c: Rip youtube killing discord comments I’d love a DST skin chest!
I watched this video not too long after it came out, I came back when necessary and used what tips and guidance you gave to pace myself and my partner, we've survived about 1 and a half in game years but never got very far boss wise. I absolutely love the lore of DST and have found myself switching up my characters and play style purely from watching your other videos. Thanks too you and all the time and effort you have put into this well thought out and enjoyable tutorial me and my partner have made ot to the ruins for the first time ever. We're not too sure where to go from here as it feels like a whole new game being down there but I'm sure with time we'll make our move onto a non seasonal boss. I hope others have found this an enjoyable tutorial and appreciate the work you put into these videos. Both Steam Friend code and Discord Tag make RUclips delete the comment so I'm not sure how to join the giveaway. If you end up changing how the entry works then I'll leave what I want here if I'm picked on the 31st. I'd like a DST Skin Chest please.
Thanks for the vid, its awesome. Btw you can use a bush hat during the nightmare phase to avoid nightmare creatures. As long as you dont have to refuel your lantern while hidden, they wont find you. PS if I win the game, Ill put my tag here afterwards. Thanks ❤
Bit late to the party however I wanted to let you know I appreciate all the little details you put in this. Fr the amount of guides you see that leave out those handy tips and tricks is unreal. Also its super nice how cheerful you sound just an all around joy to watch and listen to
I've been playing Don't Starve Together now for a week after watching one of your all bosses speedruns and it's been a really fun time, even if I haven't survived through winter yet, but these videos have been awesome for getting some basic knowledge down on the game and having some new skins would be cool.
Thank you soo much All of your videos including this one have helped me so much. I don’t know if I would play don’t starve if you did not make these. I’m also extremely excited to finally know how to rush the ruins!
I've just recently gotten into your content and DST overall and it's been so enjoyable learning stuff from your runs and just watching you play. Thank you for getting both me and my friends into DST :D
This is quite a pleasant surprise. I stopped played DST a while ago, it just got pretty repetitive and I lost the motivation after 1K hours. But your content has made me regain the interest in this game, especially this guide about the ruins, which I tried to avoid most of the times due to how hard people made it to be. Also, I do remember watching some of your old RuneScape vids, so this is even cooler. Anyways, I'd like a skin chest, most of the ones I have are thx to spools. Lastly, thanks for the interesting and fun content, is good for both new players and returning ones!
This guide was super thorough and helpful. I had no idea that caves generation was so easily predictable. The tree analogy + diagram made it really easy to understand. It's great to know that I don't have to scour the entire village biome to find the ruins entrance, and in general I'm usually just running around the caves aimlessly to find all the biomes outside the ruins because I thought it was more or less random. This will save me a lot of valuable time, thanks for the guide and keep up the good work! If I win the giveaway I would like a skin chest please (:
6th and last try I'm watching all of your videos regarding Don't Starve together. Your boss rushes are every interesting and entertaining to watch also because you actually explain the bosses mechanics. I also watched your beginner guide to the game, and that helped me to be even more caught up by the game! I knew this game for a while but never actually took too much attention, well, your videos are bringing me in! Also this video is very useful since i never understood how you can orientate in the caves (also because i can literally get lost everywhere) and probably will watch it more than one time if i get the game! (Btw, noted up that i must be always aware of the monkeys)
Hey Jakey, cool video, I can see that you put a lot of work in to it. Really like the stalagmite-lightbulb line thing. I generated 20 caves and checked the maps, out of those, 8 archives were opposite to the ruins, 8 were "to the left" (if you rotate so that ruins are up), and 6 were to the right. Anyways, really pumped for the wanda vid. Ps. this isnt a giveaway comment, mine is somewhere else
oh man i've been playing DST since it first came out -- i was given it by a friend who had gotten it as soon as released and it's become a love of mine. i don't have many hours in it because i only play with others (i'm weird about games) but i still have 200+ hours in it, with only two games i've played more of on steam. but man i found your videos and i'm addicted!! i'm learning so much new stuff and i'm excited for your video defeating all bosses as Webber ♥ Confirmation
Awesome video man. Your videos are always super helpful for me as a DST beginner, specially this one as a WX main lol. The tips I learned from your channel totally changed the way me and my friends play the game together. Now instead of running away from bosses, we prepare and face them head on... and die a lot lmao. Either way, can't wait to see a Beating all Bosses with WX. Would be fun to get a DST skin too. See you around dude!
This would be useful if I had the game but it's good to know more about this game. ngl the quility content that was in the video was nice, I don't usually watch long videos (30 min to 3 hours) but this video actually made me think it was like a 10 min video!
Thank you for making this content, I’ve been watching you for a while and have wanted to get DST for some time now but haven’t had the recourses to do so. I’ve learned so much about the game from your guides and speed runs! Keep up the good work and have a great day!!
I didn't know abaut the setpieces and the "straight line" method that you have mentioned, so this video was really helpful. In my case it is better to rush the ruins in the first summer, gather everything you need, like living log, do some magic and things like that
Absolutely helpful vid, I'm a wendy main who usually rushes bee queen for day 1-10. I'm considering on mapping the ruins afterwards with lantern, hambat, bundling wraps and helmets but till now I'm scared of freezing inside the ruins if i take too long.
im fairly new to the game so learning has been quite the challenge for me as i am not the fastest learner, and your speedruns and guides are super helpful for me to get accustomed to what i should be doing. you explain things super well and if i ever forget or something i can just re watch the videos because theyre super entertaining on top of educational. good content :)
Tips: -You can hammer the thulecite walls for some thulecite fragments -You can turn on the "Winter's Feast" Event on in the World settings, so you can make the giftwrap, which is a early game bundle wrap, made by one papyrus and one petal, you can use it to bundle your important stuff (like gems and thulecite) or thulecite crowns -If you are skilled enough, you can rush Dragonfly for some extra gems Confirmation
Heya Jakey, awesome video! I've got over 1k hours in DST, yet I've never found a consistent method of reaching the ruins. This has been a massive help, thank you! A DST skin chest would be awesome!
My first comment got d3l3t3d trying to avoid another case....but hey, let's write the assay all over again! (First of all English is not my mother tongue, so, I'm sorry for any errors that i could actually make) So, as i said in the first comment I'm watching all of your videos regarding Don't Starve together. Your boss rushes are every interesting and entertaining to watch also because you actually explain the bosses mechanics. I also watched your beginner guide to the game, and that helped me to be even more caught up by the game! I knew this game for a while but never actually payed too much attention, well, your videos are bringing me in! Also this video is very useful since i never understood how you can orientate in the caves (also because i can literally get lost everywhere) and probably will watch it more than one time if i get the game! (Btw, noted up that i must be always aware and hate the monkeys) I hope this one doesn't do the same end of the other one aaand i would like to partecipate for the don't Starve together giveaway, in case i win one of the 2 copies will be gifted to my sister in that way we can play together it!
im just thankful that i unlocked wortox first! since wortox's playstyle is "just kill and dont take the server's food". since eating souls lowers sanity, you have to deal with nightmares ALOT. and because of this i thought myself to kite nightmares and can now deal with 1 - 2 nightmares at a time. so this little knowledge is REALLY necessary if you want to rush the ruins. trust me, just as what Jakey said in the beginners guide video: "learn to kite nightmare creatures. trust me its so worth it and you save alot of resources by ignoring sanity"
Things I missed:
- I look at the map while moving by clicking to walk then opening the map after, therefore I continue walking while looking at the map.
- You can raid the archives for extra thulecite & thulecite fragments but no gems.
- You can repair clockworks with gears to have clockwork allies to fight with you (on average it will cost you gears).
okay
okay
Was wondering about where did my comment go
Was waiting for a comment like this, glad people will be able to take part in the giveaway now.

the ruins is like the jungle in early terraria because of 3 reasons
1. you can do it very early with little to no resources

Ik this vid is a few months old but I just wanted to say this worked *flawlessly.* Went to the caves, used the entrances I had discovered thus far to find the line, found the ruins. 10/10 guide, helped me ruins rush for my first time! Keep up the great vids Jakey!
Great!
17:28 “small chance of getting gems from the broken clockworks”
*rook breaks clockworks and drops 3 gems*
meant to say small chance at ruin gems (yellow/green/orange)
i recently got into the game after owning but not playing it for awhile, now i got like 7 of my friends to get it and it's so much fun!
This is the lazy method and won't yield giant crops but it will still provide infinite food and allow you to very quickly expand your farm as much as you want.
he said once like james bucket had a simple but indepth guide on farming, it was linked in his beginner guide
If I happen to win the giveaway, I'll take copy of DST, but I want to give it to my friend instead of me if thats ok
there's nothing better than guides from an experienced speedrunner.
jake u literally mentored me like dumbledore ever since my first survival on dst and now, for the ruins. thank u so much
Appreciate your content.
Small suggestion for readability when making sections/lists:
1. Left justify so the starting place of the sentence is consistent.
2. Prefix your section with a number when in steps - if it's a video then include the timestamp *before* the section title.
Compare the layout shown in the video at 0:34 with the following layout:
2:49 Why Rush the Ruins
6:04 Requirements
7:42 Finding the Ruins
13:31 Nightmare phases & Dangers
15:12 Avoiding Combat & Set pieces
25:07 Methods
25:52 What to craft
27:27 Final recommendations
It's perhaps even more noticeable when used on a multiple point list at 13:40 for example:
6:00 - 7:30 Calm
1:30 - 3:00 Warning
2:30 - 4:00 Nightmare
1:00 - 2:30 Dawn
thank u sir I will do this now since it looks beautiful
One strategy that I recommend is to before going to ruins, find the bunny village first. After you've destroyed all the bunny houses, you'll probably gather at keats 40 carrots. That's enough food to stay in the ruins for a few days.
And unlike the base game where you got 1 carrot from a plot of land, carrots are super easy to grow so your bunny empire isn't choked by carrots!
But then you're playing with wigfrid
But I'm wigfred i can't eat carrots 😂😂😂
You are amazing and keep up the good work :)
Requested Prize: DST Skin Chest.
Best advice about ruin rushing is to not be too greedy. Take what you need and leave. You can always comeback for extra gears and trinkets.
Exactly!
one of (if not) the best DST yuutuuber
finally jakeyosaurus plays among us online 2 episode 455
I’d even watch an ordinary playtrough without cuts and such
I have played alot of dont starve but for some reason i just have never been that knowledgeable about the ruins, this video helped me alot.
The biggest thing not covered here that I can say is that you can repair the broken clockworks to make combat a little more manageable
That WX should be taking way more fights than other characters
and that ancient guardian is entirely cheesable if you get him stuck on a pillar or between two graves, your range is longer than his.
I've seen countless guides from other youtubers, but this one still had extensive information and was very informative. Great job!
I've been trying to rush ruins recently so this is a great help! I haven't really seen how to locate the ruins so that was super helpful
Your content has mad me like don't starve together way more than the original game, even though it is more based around team based gameplay to win, it's amazing and awesome how the whole game is still very much manageable by one player, I'll be it with increased micro and battle times
I've been learning how to rush over the last few days, your bit about how to find the ruins really helped where most other guides were vague at best
A couple tips I would give to new rushers:
- you can walk on the void of the caves by placing two gate doors in a corner and closing them behind you. You can search "voidwalking bug" to see the exact placement, as it is a bit hard to explain with just words. To return to the land, just type "/rescue" on the regular chat. This can be used to skip the village/ monkey biomes during nightmare phase, although it's pretty cheesy
- if you find a beefalo during early exploration you can bring it with you to the ruins for an easy time! Lardee has a great tutorial on easy early beefalo domestication and Cat Person has one on beefalo ruins rushing. Check them out! You can also use that beefalo for bossfights, as it will turn into an ornery beefalo (same dps as a darksword) once domesticated if you use it to kill the Ancient Guardian!
damn thats broken
@@mlsanica7618 yeah, but at the end of the day it's just saving you the waiting time until the calm phase starts. You can also use it to locate the atrium, but it's as random as just killing the big tentacles
@@pobladorestringido4572 cant nightmares still attack you though ? you wont really be able to see them on the black "floor"
@@mlsanica7618 I think they do lol, I recommend you dont stop running
I wouldn't recommend bug abusing over learning to play legitimately
Good tip!
Couldn’t be me
this is oddly specific
Great video, Jakey. I've always had difficulties finding the ruins, but thanks to these tips I'm sure I will find them in no time in my next runs!
My sisters and bro-in-law love playing this game together. These videos make playing so much easier ✌️
i genuinely love the effort put into this
edit note: best part is how much details you know about the ruins biome, its so amazing how u know each spawn and how they are like and such
Thank you for the guide! As someone with 200+ hours in dst but have always been to scared to enter the ruins I found this very helpful to approach this content.
I’ve never really understood ruins guides which has scared me off from doing anything there but this has shown that it’s actually a lot simpler than I thought. Thanks for the noob friendly guide :P
And, why not, let’s see if I can get a skin chest
As someone who know how to rush ruin this is a very good vid show how to rush ruin. I will recommend this to my friends to let them have the same suffering with me
Tip: if you are wanda you should smash the wall in the ruin and take thulecite fragment (there are thulecite wall in the ruin) don't need to craft wall and keep thulecite for other thing.
It was super helpful for my friends
So I would like Don't Starve Together please.
Just the Finding the ruins part alone is better than most of the DST content on youtube
if I win I would love a copy of DST(I want to play this game for so long but never could buy it)
Wow, this video is absolutely perfect...
This was very useful cause I’ve always been scared of the ruins and never gone so knowing how they work and understanding the layout of some spots is very nice
I want the dst skins please
Best ruins guide, explaning every tool you can get, love it.
thank you so much for making this video! i won't lie i started watching you just lately and i respect you so much, your guides and speedruns helped me so much, hell i was so bad at the game i couldn't survive through summer. thank you so much for making these guides and helping me and so many other people.
Honestly people always talked about the cave map generation and how to interpret it until I saw this video, this helped me understand it so much you had such a great way of explaining it c:
Rip youtube killing discord comments
I’d love a DST skin chest!

Wow this explanation on how to find the ruins was so good, if I saw this video earlier I wouldnt have to explore the entire map before finding them :D
0:45 "so no matter your skill level, you'll be able to rush the ruins after watching this"
do you doubt my ability to FUCK THINGS UP
This guide was super thorough and helpful.
If I win the giveaway I would like a skin chest please (:
off topic but I really appreciate you using default skins for tutorials so I don't have to work out wtf the items you are using are
6th and last try
I'm watching all of your videos regarding Don't Starve together.
My friend and I try to rush the ruins but after watching this, we can probably half the time it takes for us to actually get going Thanks!
Its crazy how much knowledge you had for this game, I’m impressed
oh man i've been playing DST since it first came out -- i was given it by a friend who had gotten it as soon as released and it's become a love of mine. i don't have many hours in it because i only play with others (i'm weird about games) but i still have 200+ hours in it, with only two games i've played more of on steam. but man i found your videos and i'm addicted!! i'm learning so much new stuff and i'm excited for your video defeating all bosses as Webber ♥ Confirmation
Great video as usual Jakey. You're the staple for DST guides now, looking forward to seeing more from you, gameplays or guides.
In my case it is better to rush the ruins in the first summer, gather everything you need, like living log, do some magic and things like that
Great content! The split for identifying the ruins location is a game changer! I have too many hours in DST and I learned new things. Thanks Jakey!
Absolutely helpful vid, I'm a wendy main who usually rushes bee queen for day 1-10. I'm considering on mapping the ruins afterwards with lantern, hambat, bundling wraps and helmets but till now I'm scared of freezing inside the ruins if i take too long.
You'll freeze for like 10 seconds during night of day 19 maybe but try to be back latest start of day 20
im fairly new to the game so learning has been quite the challenge for me as i am not the fastest learner, and your speedruns and guides are super helpful for me to get accustomed to what i should be doing. you explain things super well and if i ever forget or something i can just re watch the videos because theyre super entertaining on top of educational. good content :)
I've been playing for only a year and this guide helps a lot. I've been to the ruins once and that was on a modded world. Thanks for the guide.
Tips:
-You can hammer the thulecite walls for some thulecite fragments
-You can turn on the "Winter's Feast" Event on in the World settings, so you can make the giftwrap, which is a early game bundle wrap, made by one papyrus and one petal, you can use it to bundle your important stuff (like gems and thulecite) or thulecite crowns
-If you are skilled enough, you can rush Dragonfly for some extra gems
Confirmation
Despite the fact that the map is procedurally generated, I was unaware of the fact that they followed certain world generation patterns, thanks Jakey.
(First of all English is not my mother tongue, so, I'm sorry for any errors that i could actually make)
So, as i said in the first comment I'm watching all of your videos regarding Don't Starve together. (Btw, noted up that i must be always aware and hate the monkeys)
I hope this one doesn't do the same end of the other one aaand i would like to partecipate for the don't Starve together giveaway, in case i win one of the 2 copies will be gifted to my sister in that way we can play together it!
Some of the best educational content i've ever seen all together let alone just this game. Well done :)
im just thankful that i unlocked wortox first! since wortox's playstyle is "just kill and dont take the server's food". since eating souls lowers sanity, you have to deal with nightmares ALOT. and because of this i thought myself to kite nightmares and can now deal with 1 - 2 nightmares at a time. so this little knowledge is REALLY necessary if you want to rush the ruins. trust me, just as what Jakey said in the beginners guide video: "learn to kite nightmare creatures. trust me its so worth it and you save alot of resources by ignoring sanity"
me, i didn't really know there was a way to discover the ruins location by observing the enviroment
Really nice video overall keep up the good work
this video really helped me with figuring out the nightmare phase better and mob targeting because that always killed me
