The word YEN in the sense of longing or yearning is not slang. It's a legit word. An example of its usage as a noun would be "I have a YEN for some ice cream." Or used as a verb, "I YEN for some ice cream.

@@doraa.7873 I had only heard it as a noun, not a verb, but that was close enough (especially since DESIRE can be both).

I am throwing my hands up in the air with Connections and need to spend much less interaction time in these sites. I am hoping to follow through and break this unhealthy addiction interacting in these sites. I DO enjoy these games and have a few friends that only play Wordle. I plan to join a book club and do more more bowling starting in the Fall. I might consider doing volunteer work which is another means of using my spare time wisely. You may choose or not choose to send me my certificate, Art. You and others just complimenting me on my GOOD extensive comments in this site was really enough of a reward. I had a nice 4th of July and hoping that the rest of you did as well. 😊

I support you! I removed all social media from my phone months ago, and I'm spending more time with my family and reading. I still come on here, but I've made it slightly.more difficult so I have to put in more effort which is enough to deter me sometimes (youtube is awful on my phone browser and I will often just leave because it annoys me). I can look something up on my computer, which I'm often too lazy to do when the books are more accessible.
There are a two channels I check for the weekly update on and then on my work break, I come watch Art and Kenny do these games after my attempt. Otherwise, I'm mostly social-media-free.
I recommend it, and I'm rooting for you!

My issue was I was down to the "BOND"/"M"/"MONEYPENNY"/"Q". In my mind I separated out the James Bond *character* from the James Bond *movie franchise.* So that although they have the same name, they are two distinct entities, and one can be part of the other. That's just how I framed it to solve the puzzle and reconcile the naming dilemma

@@hopechazzWell, it took me a long time, and I wasn't able to use reasoning to get to the answer.
This puzzle had 3 categories that required specific cultural knowledge. There wasn't any overlap or way to debate different shades of meaning. No idiomatic phrases, just facts. Either you know Fortune is a magazine and M is a Bond character or you don't. I think that's harder than a puzzle that has 2 or 3 categories of synonyms. Throw in the word yen- a word whose meaning is so obscure it's only found in crosswords (or maybe the OED) made this a harder puzzle, in my estimation.

Sometimes you're really frustrating, Art. You're a bright guy, but you make it so hard on yourself when you fail to recognize getting stuck on something. It took forever before you even started considering what the purple phrase would be, and then you spent like two seconds on K before returning doggedly to the yearn thing. You never spent even a second on trying to come up with bubblegum things that could have solved the puzzle for you. Sometimes your quick-thinking brain basically serves you the answer on a platter, but when it doesn't you need to work on letting an idea go and change perspective.
Your brain is WAY above average when it comes to words and linguistics (you can make Wordle seem super easy even when it isn't), but you don't even try to recognize when you get stuck on something. The way you get better on Connections and Strands is realizing when you're going into a rabbit hole, stop, and force yourself NOT to just circle back to that one topic, ideally letting that go to attack from a different angle.
    Good luck in the future.

@@hopechazz Thanks for the mention, Charles. But I'd like to clarify, I never said anything about people responding "in a proper fashion." Those are YOUR words. I would never say anything that judgmental. Again, there could be many understandable reasons why people don't always respond, so let's be kind and give them the benefit of the doubt. Let's keep these comments friendly and not rashly accuse anyone of having "bad manners." They probably just aren't seeing your comments because they don't have the time to check them that often.
