    Melafix is by far the best coral dip. It shits on every one of those bottles! If you’re wondering; 2.5mL per 1 cup of tank water (5-10 minute dip; I go 15. I dip twice in two different containers and then straight to the tank, no need to rinse as Melafix is excellent at treating your fish/coral/rock/sand. Excellent excellent stuff!!

    Tip for the Bayer - DO NOT go from dipping straight into your DT. Rinse very well and then move the frags to a coral QT for a while. You really don't want any trace of the Bayer in your DT.

  • @lisafoster4468
    @lisafoster4468 Год назад +2

    I admit, I used the Bayer barehanded without thinking about it, though definitely not at full strength. Didn't even get an itch. Not that I would repeat it. Peroxide outright killed my monti frag, but everything else I had appreciated it.

    DANGER: What is most often forgotten when using Hydrogen Peroxide (directly in your tank), is that most HP contains phosphates in high concentrations as a stabilizer. So even if it kills your algae in the first round, they might come back as a total havoc on the second round. What to do? Test your HP (diluted!) with your phosphate test and rule out the brands that contain phosphates. If all your brands do contain phosphates, don´t use HP directly in your tank and when dipping, rinse your coral and frag plugs to an extreme after using the HP. Maybe do a phosphate test on your rinsed coral before re-introducing them in your tank. Think of phosphate concentrations in the HP like in flower fertilizer...

    I have used Hydrogen Peroxide on several occasions and have never had a problem with it. I have dipped frags, sprayed complete rocks, spot treated inside the DT using some in a syringe etc. etc.. I have never diluted it and have used it on many different corals. I pretty much stick to Coral RX and Hydrogen Peroxide.
    And while it might be a good thought to have an aquarium supply company make a Hydrogen Peroxide treatment, I personally would never buy it if it cost a cent more than what I pay for it at the local drug store. This is probably why no company in the aquarium trade has done so.
    Keep up the great work!!!

      I use ME Corals 4x strength dip, it's so cheap and it works so well. I watched this weird brown barnacle algae looking thing just melt away from beneath one of my Chalices and every time I get a new coral after 15m in the dip most of the stuff comes off on it's own and then I just jet it to blow off anything remaining. My LFS guy said that it's a Pest, Bacterial, Algae and Iodine healing dip all in one.

      J. Galactus remember aiptasia and mojanos are anemones. Anemones are very closely related to corals, hence something used on aiptasia May very well have adverse effects on corals.

    I didnt even know Hydrogen Peroxide and Bayer were options until a year+ into the hobby, even Tropic Marin is something new to me because out of the 5-8 different LFS I've been too, I've never seen it carried in store( or recommendedas a dip.) Luckily I watched some RUclipsrs who recorded their process and was able to order from BRS earlier this month. Always alittle nervous trying to new things on my corals, but I felt the same way about Brightwells Amino Acids and now I dont know how I went so long without it. Thanks for the videos and time you guys put in and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

    • @BRStv

      Coral Rx is definitely the most commonly used around the BRS office when it comes to zoas and really all corals.

  • @lisademayo8589
    @lisademayo8589 3 года назад

    Wow ya'll just mentioned that you do a FRESH WATER DIP for Zoas? How long do you dip them in freshwater? And Euphylia too?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 года назад

      Freshwater dips are tricky because not all corals handle them well. Zoas will usually handle freshwater for a couple of minutes just fine, but I wouldn't suggest using this method with euphyllia. Depending on your end goal, a purpose formulated coral dip is likely going to be more beneficial and has a wider number of coral types that it can be used on.

    I need to know how to use lugols for a dip since directions dont say! Please give me some info. I just watched a youtube by a girl from brs but she just says follow directions but the directions are only for dosing to the tank! Why the heck would i need to calculated based on how many gallons are in my tank? How much do I use for 1 cup of dip? For how long for softies and lps? I just watched another you tube of someone who uses drug store iodine and its 10 percent and he said 1.5 ml per cup. The girl on youtube said lugols was 2%. I am so confused but I have dying corals and need to know asap! PLEASE help! Billy pipes has a youtube on tropic marin iodine that has the directions. I hate to have wasted my money and from your store for such a misleading product! Is tropic marin iodine just as good? I have medicoral and hasnt worked but do I keep doin it daily until it recovers?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 года назад +1

      It's always easier to prevent the issue in the first place vs trying to solve an issue that has taken a foothold in your tank. Different fish, specifically wrasse, can definitely help though.
