    Question: You don't put a pump in the dip bucket to improve flow, blow off debris and help the dip solution permeate the colonies?
    I haven't ever had anything crazy come off my coral, I always buy frags so they're small and USUALLY from fairly clean systems. I've seen some chunky amphipods fall off though.

    Is it important to temperature and drip acclimate the coral before you even start the dip process?

    Do you use different dip strategies for different coral types? If so what is a high level summary of “decision tree”?

    Could you do the coral dip then rinse with tap water then into saltwater before tank?

    • @AsThe3rdEye
      @AsThe3rdEye 3 года назад +1

      I'll let Fragbox/March correct me if I'm wrong but in the meantime;
      I would not recommend using, much less dipping coral in, untreated tap water. Part of the acclimation process is to get the coral used to the change in water chemistry between the water it came from to the water in your system. Going from a system with 7.3 ALK to 8.7 can cause the coral undue stress, especially if it has been shipped. So going from its own water with the dip solution added to fresh water, then to the salt water in your tank could have negative effects on the coral. Add to that tap water typically has chorine or choloride in it to reduce bacterial growth, along with potentially harmful levels of iron or copper.
      I used to run my reef tank with salt water made from the tap before I got my RODI unit, and I didn't kill anything but I treated the water with a dechlorinating/metal binding agent (Seachem Prime in my case) before mixing and adding it. After a dip I would just have small cup of tank water on the side to dip/swish the coral in to rinse any residue left on it.
