Actually refurbished does not mean repaired - refurbished means to brighten or freshen up. So literally blowing compressed air in the fans can be considered refurbished. Refurbished has never meant what most think it means, which is remanufactured. A refurbished product is rarely taken apart and cleaned in the manner of which people think they are. Cell phone carrier insurance companies have been under fire for years for the same thing. Just because internet trolls don't know the definition, does not mean that DKoldies is some how scamming you. Their prices suck sure, I don't find Joey particularly humorous, but they are a business. Just because you can find that same product on ebay from someone with no overhead and no warranty doesn't mean that the retail price is wrong. People go to a retailer because they 1) get the 1 year warranty 2) they don't worry about getting their credit card stolen or getting scammed out of money with no product.
@@jonnadler628 if you actually did your research more into their scummy tactics you wouldn’t be defending them. There’s been consoles untouched by them with dust and rust inside the consoles. Is that freshened up? You said so yourself that refurbished means to. It is a scam.. charging people for a premium price to get untouched consoles. Then on top of that putting a warranty sticker on it and saying if you remove it you void the warranty, which is illegal in the United States by the way. They don’t want you opening the consoles because they know they haven’t done anything to them. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

@@morbidgull8922i think it also depends on accessibility. Alot of retro ganes have value because you cant emulate or buy them on modern consoles. If people can rebuy them now they wont bother buying an overpriced old disc/cartridge and the related hardware to run and setup

the worst part about the Wii repair, is that they only tested super smash bros brawl. the wii has 2 lasers. and Brawl is a dual-layered disc; an issue people saw on release was that some couldn't run the game because the laser might have decalibrated over time (?). they didn't even test gamecube games to see if those work.

I've been in the dkoldies drama since May 2022 and I'm one of the first to criticize them but I'm glad finally people like Muta are exposing them to more people.
Just a note: Sellers on eBay don't choose international shipping. As someone who frequently shops in the UK market as a US citizen (context: british style model railways), the listings for *all* items from the UK will be 40-50. If you're having issues with finding cheap shipping, try switching over to that listing's native country, eBay even lists the country of origin for them.
I worked in QA for a peripherals manufacturer (you've heard of it). We used to follow an acronym - AGAN (pronounced "again"). It means As Good As New. A product was not considered "refurbished" until it met this standard. Means it has to visually look passable as new. It has to pass every benchmark a new product would. Refurb is half a step below open-box, plus it's certified.
Dk oldies and video game scalpers remind me of sneaker stores and resellers. Lately there’s been multiple big sneaker stores that have been shady af stealing money from customers and doing an NFT rug pull.
I used to be sneaker head a few years ago, around 2016 scalpers ruined everything by overpricing every shoe release to a point people stop buying from them or stop buying shoes all together and I’m one of those people.
I've been in the dkoldies drama since May 2022 and I'm one of the first to criticize them but I'm glad finally people like Muta are exposing them to more people.

@@MalikATL exaclty true some dunks I wanted were being resold for 300$ after release and for those sneakers I thought I was very worth it, but the very next week when I got paid and went to buy them they were being sold FOR 1100$
I used to be friends with someone who was obsessed with retro gaming. Most of his paychecks would be spent on buying up these old systems and games. Used to be in that racket too, until I realized how much price gouging goes into this market. Nowadays I either emulate or get a legacy edition.
My heart breaks every time I think of the time I sold a box with 2 N64’s an original Nintendo and a PlayStation 1 that I found in my dad’s storage when I was 13 for $60 for all of it. I was sitting on a goldmine💔
I remember back in 2005 GameStop (I think it was still EB Games at the time) was selling used N64’s with a controller for $25 bucks! I’m glad I got one then even though I have intention of ever selling it.
I fear so many of us sell our systems and games when we're young, I sold my Gamecube and Gameboys with dozens of games for $100... thankfully I got into collecting retro games and re-acquired everything a number of years ago before the market really took off. I'll resort to buying my kids consoles and games from them if they're dead set on selling them and it really gets to that point.
How were you supposed to know back then? Honestly that shit doesn't matter. I'm 47 and owned all kinds of systems and games that got lost to time. Wish I still owned them not because all if a sudden they are worth more but because it would be cool to me to play some old games. Oh well, too bad so sad for me. What I do know is that I get an itch every once in a while to play some games from my youth which has happened to me recently and all I know is that it's 2023 and I'm going to research the emulation scene and play all that shit whenever I want and have all the games I want (for the most part) My nostalgia is me playing the actual game not owning some old system taking up room, fuck that. Even 10-15 years ago I remember saying to myself, I want a library of all the games from my youth across all kinds of systems on one machine. I didn't think once about buying old systems/games and I could have gotten all that shit for cheap but I didn't care then and I don't care now. That's the best way to look at it.
Can't thank you enough for covering this DKOldies scandal. They have been doing this for years but was only covered by channels in the few thousand sub count but your the biggest one that has covered it so way more people are aware of them.
I found the youtube channel a few years back, but the only reason I never commited to buying from them WAS the pricing, and they weren’t clear on their refurbishing process. I didn’t know to what extent/how badly they price gouged until now, but even without insider knowledge, I got a weird feeling initially.
I can’t believe that I actually used to defend DKOldies, excusing their markups for what I thought are quality products that are actually refurbished properly. But I was just too damn gullible to their videos.
The western console market prices is getting more ridiculous since the retro game resurgence, I’ve just been getting old consoles from Japan for fair or even cheaper prices even with shipping and import taxes
There's other sources of content that aren't supporting this lying, manipulative business. Even by subbing or watching their content you're helping this company. Might as well shop with them at that point lol.
Damn really I order something never received it not from dkoldies. To this day I don't know what happened to it they said they'd send it but I don't know if the post office made a mistake. I had to go to many jumps before they give me a refund.
How??? May have been months ago, but you oughta follow-up on it if you may. They probably having an influx of bullshit on their customer service, but 400 dollars on some overpriced/noustalgic gamecube stuff should not be neglected-upon.

If only they were doing something illegal. They aren't despite how much you scream about it. There is ZERO legal definition for what refurbishing means, nor is it illegal to over-charge for a old game console. If something arrives broken, and they refund or replace it, again they are not breaking any laws.
@@Ryan_DeWitt Not a lawyer but if it's somewhere in writing promising a refurbished product then you can start there. I was promised this, a fully working product that was refurbished. With the images promised on the website, what I got in the mail can be a good starting point. Again not a lawyer
I’ve bought quite a few broken items from them to repair and resell. But I have to say, that there were several orders that were pretty ridiculous. It was obvious that they removed parts from the SNESs and Gameboys and listed them as “not working for parts” but would lead you to believe that all the parts were still there, it just doesn’t turn on. 😅

At our hockshop in town I saw a heartgold version in box for $550 or so in canadian and someone eventually bought it after it sitting on the shelf for half a year.
I actually did a price comparison with them and eBay, with my items being a DS lite and Pokémon emerald, soul silver, and platinum. Dkoldies was selling those 4 items for over $700 total(note that all of them were “refurbished “), while eBay was only around $200 in good conditions for all 4 along with finding a complete box set of soul silver for 120 or so in a bidding auction compared to a “refurbished” soul silver for 220. Idk why people even buy from them in the first place, there are way better places to buy like eBay or if you’re lucky a retro game store like the exchange
Please spend $200 for a good condition CIB soul silver, a DS, Pokémon emerald, and platinum. Let me know how many of them are fake. Hint: they’re all fake
@Burger Pants I never said nor mentioned 80, i clearly said I found on eBay all of those for around $200 total plus you can find those games for less than 100, you just don’t know where. Also please read over my comment ik it’s a lot to take in

DKOldies and similar businesses shouldn't exist considering some local repair/electrical shops have actual professionals that can repair consoles properly. You know, qualified Electricians? Cheaper too infact. Asking DKOldies to repair and refurbish your console is like asking Mr. Bean to fix your console. I'm glad more and more people are calling out these retro/nostalgia scammers exploiting and ruining retro gaming for a quick buck. Now if we can see more people call out certain RUclipsrs who e-beg/scam for tens of thousands of dollars while intentionally trying to inflate game prices with their videos, then that would be fantastic.
Reminds me of the 360 days when me and my friends would buy red-ring-of-death consoles and just change the thermal paste. Buy a console for fifty bucks, flip it for one fifty for ten minutes work. This sounds about as professional as we were.
I think it's a scam. I hate how overpriced it is. The fact that you have to pay extra for the box and the manual to avoid damaging the cartridge or disc and so you can learn the controls
Boxed copies with manuals are always more expensive than loose carts simply because they're more rare. It's not a thing DKOldies invented. From what I've seen they pack the stuff well enough to avoid shipping damage. Also cmon, you don't need a manual for the vast majority of games, and you can always find it online.
Man, I’ve seen them get hate for price gouging and just thought “yeah it’s too high, but you know you’re getting a clean, working system” but dang, that was wrong
Every game store near me pretty much looks up ebay and sets their price point based on that. Local mom and pop shops are already starting to overcharge and retro gaming is turning toxic
It hurts to see just how ridiculous older consoles are being price gouged these days. I personally own a game cube, first gen PS2, PS3, Gameboy Advance and Wii. I'm sure if I cleaned them up and refurbished them I could make a tidy profit, but I feel like I would only be contributing to the problem. That and Im quite attached to my consoles. They're nostalgic in that they remind me of periods of my life not only in gaming.
I will never get over the fact that DKOldies charged Mario Kart Wii for such a ridiculous price. The markup on Nintendo games/consoles by these scalpers is insane.
I got my own PS3s and PS4 for free, from people that said they didn't work. Took apart the one PS3, and the PS4, cleaned everything, and even replaced the thermal paste. The PS4 would shut down because of an overheating issue. After taking it apart and cleaning, and applying new thermal paste, it ran the entirety of Spider-Man with nothing more than a slight whine.
I stopped collecting in 2016 because Retro Gaming became more popular and money ruined it. Money ruins all of my fucking hobbies :/ i always have the shittiest luck of getting into hobbies before they get popular, then they always blow up and everything gets hella expensive, inaccessible, and lots of new people enter the community just to make a buck. Maybe that's part of the reason why my hobbies these days are things like reading, linux, programming, free open source software, and other things that are resistant to being ruined because of a high barrier of entry and low potential for monetization xD
I remember being at a convention, found a collector's edition of Demon's Souls Asked the dude how much it was. He took out his phone and looked up ebay listings. Ive seen sellers for used goods with excel printouts with basically ebay prices but it implies there's a system or organization. At least that was more acceptable than "uhhh ebay sells it for 120$"
I want to trust stores like DKOldies because it really sucks dealing with assholes on ebay. I've bought games where they show the correct stuff in their product listing, then switch out the disc (either by mistake or malice) and I don't get what I paid for, meanwhile the seller insists I'm the one trying to scam them. I hate interactions like that so much. I'm willing to pay a markup at businesses where I know I'll get what I pay for and if I don't, will have a good customer service team
in 2012 a coworker bought me a Dreamcast (of the model type that didn't have the copy protection of the last generations) in a pawn shop for $20... That Dreamcast is still working to this day. I feel lucky that I got it.
I once searched DKOldies for a copy of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for the PS2. A rare game, but they were asking $100 Canadian at the time and I just kinda went: HUH?! 100 BUCKS FOR A GAME RELEASED ON THE PS2? WHAT IS IT MADE OF GOLD? Worst part, it was used and didn't come with the case so I closed out that tab and shook my head. EDIT: Just checked the site again. IT'S NOW $ 299.99 CANADIAN FOR A PS2 COPY.
I found a BT3 disc at a local game shop in the bargain bin. Played it for a few months and sold it for $100 USD on ebay. So 100 for just the disc isn't actually unreasonable.
@@The-Singularity-X01 tell that to the market. There's a loose copy on ebay rn for 130 US with 55 bids. Complete copies sell for like $200. Is what it is.
You were the chosen one DKOldies! It was said that you would destroy the price gouging resellers, not join them. You were to bring balance to the retro gaming market, not leave it in darkness!
One of the worst parts about DKOldies is that they slap a warranty sticker on these consoles. They don't do this because they refurbish their consoles and are proud of the work they've done. They use it as a scare tactic to scare their customers since "opening up any consoles and removing the sticker may void the warranty" but in reality they just don't want anyone to see the insides haven't been touched. Also doubling down with videos and comments claiming they refurbish every console STILL when dozens if not hundreds of consoles have been bought and opened by RUclipsrs showing the opposite... It's so shameless.
For 150 bucks you can buy a clean, modded PS3, packed full of emulators (Gameboy, N64, Sega Genesis, MAME, ETC.. , with preloaded games, and for an extra 70 bucks you can get it with a custom 1tb hard drive. DKOldies prices are absolutely baffling
I remember a while ago I was gonna buy a copy of pokemon ruby for the gba. I really wanted a official copy as a collectable but didnt buy it because I couldn't justify dropping $100 on it. Thanks for this video so I know never to think of buying from them
Y’know, I’m quite disappointed that RUclipsrs only began to cover DKoldies after they became popular on TikTok. But I’m glad they’re finally being covered on and that their videos are our evidence against them. As soon as they started to market themselves, they immediately were hated by everyone. Before that, hardly anyone knew about them.
Tbh I do think they're malicious in intent. Even if they did go into this ignorant, so many people have criticized them that they should know what is expected of them at this point. Not only that but they blatantly delete comments that call them out.
@Mor MacFey from what I see they just send it out as is and if there's complaints they rely on their warranty system to address them. Which is scummy because then you have to wait even longer to get a functioning console.
This is like how you're forced to buy third party guitar hero/rock band guitars because the discontinued scalped ones are being sold for 500+ on amazon and other sites vs like 80-100 bucks for a third party variation. While rock back 4 is literally still supported and still gets DLC and only cost 40 dollars.
After seeing ReviewTechUSA and Jacob R’s videos on their consoles that they received. To say that they were “ refurbished” and “cleaned” is just the biggest understatement of all time. It’s criminal with what they are doing. Also recently Jacob R discovered a comment that DK Oldies said they we are hating on them 😂 I hope they either get sued and or run out of business.
I'm one of those in Canada who repairs consoles, sometimes older ones. And trust me, alot of works go in to refurbishing consoles. Refurbished is a word thrown around alot, to the point where even just a device that is returned sometimes gets labelled as refurbished. I've seen the videos showing DKOldies refurbished consoles and it's a complete joke. Bring an old console to me and I'll gladly refurbish it for a fair price and not leave you upset. What annoys me with sites like DKOldies is that it makes everyone second guess everyone else's ability to do what is needed.
Yesss thank you for calling those scumbags out. We need more people to call them out. Any negative feedback you leave on their videos and pages get deleted 😢
Yeah the fact that they sell consoles wayyyy above market price, and claim that they’re “refurbished” whilst the inside of the console looks like the Saharan desert is absurd. They’ve also admitted that they only open consoles if there is something wrong with them lmaooo
They sent me an N64 back in December that had rattling inside. It didn’t even have the Jumper Pack inside of it. Found a local dude who sold me his N64 WITH the original box in amazing condition for half what DK Oldies was selling theirs for without a box. For laughs I used the controller they sent me for Mario Party and the stick came right off.

I used to be friends with someone who was obsessed with retro gaming. Most of his paychecks would be spent on buying up these old systems and games. Used to be in that racket too, until I realized how much price gouging goes into this market. Nowadays I either emulate or get a legacy edition.
Glad there’s been lots of creators calling DKOldies out they are part of the problem of why retro gaming is expensive
Bro i sold my psVita for 90$ in 2015 now theyre going for 150$
I fear so many of us sell our systems and games when we're young, I sold my Gamecube and Gameboys with dozens of games for $100... thankfully I got into collecting retro games and re-acquired everything a number of years ago before the market really took off. I'll resort to buying my kids consoles and games from them if they're dead set on selling them and it really gets to that point.
To be fair you still, sitting on one.
