BYD has three series. The first is Dynasty series, Han, Tang, Song, Yuan etc. They are for the businesses and serious family users. The second is Ocean series, Seagull, Dolphin, Seal, Sea Lion. They are for the young folks or who are really into tech or characteristics. The last is the high-end Yangwang series, U8, U9. They are just fully equipped, top notch on all aspects.
From experience, the ability to change the orientation of the screen is great IMO. Horizontal for normal operation is the same as most cars, but when you want to use navigation maps, it's SO much easier to read in the vertical position. Think of it like your phone. The option to use it as you want, is a bonus.
That makes so much sense. People keep on saying the screen changing from vertical to horizontal is just a party trick, but what you have said makes so much sense. Thank you
Is it a strange name? Naming a car after an animal doesn't seem unusual - Puma, Mustang, Stingray, Barracuda, Pony.... There are loads.
If you want a strange naming strategy, Ford's 1970s policy of naming cars after low-end gentleman's magazines - Fiesta, Escort.... - seems stranger.
€30,000 is not cheap. Calling faux leather "vegan" leather is just ridiculous!
In the 1970s it was called vinyl
@@piglet5287 nice catch guys ! But to be fair vinyl was synth of petroleum where this is supposed to be out of organic plants material.
@@cosmooooooooo fair enough! I wonder if it sticks to your thighs in the summer
Vegan leather interiors are just about the best use I can think of for a vegan 😁
Well the price in China for Dolphin is €15k how much tax charged by EU?
will they have stores in UK? option to see on site and test drive
For those who feel strange of this name, just to declare that, this car belongs to the Ocean Collection which BYD creat to name 1 of its products branches , as another one names Dynasties. There is nothing to feel unconfortable of, because after all , with a cute name of an animal , and if it could make a good price range , why wouldn't it be a choice ? Just opinions :)
well maybe for the Chinese but for the Western market and the rest of the world, the naming of build your dream's cars is terrible the company name itself is bad
Are there fast chargers on the highways in Nepal?
Honestly, I kinda like the camo design. If that's only there on the pre-production model, they should offer it as an actual colour option, the accents look nice.
Yep but that version probably costs 15,000 more you better going to a local sign printer and get some wraps for 500-600
The seagull is the one to watch but if comparing this against the 208 it loses on looks it perhaps beats the corsa if it drives like the Atto 3 it’s worth a look I think it’ll take Zoe sales and probably leaf too as they’re a bit long in the tooth -BYD seem to dipping their toes in the sea ( get it !? ) and holding back the best for a while eg the Seal , the Han & the one that’ll be the biggest seller due to its price the seagull - we want the seagull :)
So now makers are quoting 30-80%charging times to give a better look. If only the technology advanced as quickly as the marketing BS
if you understand how batteries work then 30 - 80 spec are very useful information
@@jamesli2040 if you understand how marketers work, you will realize that they are hoping that a proportion of their audience will overlook the shift from 20-80 to 30-80 and be impressed with the charging time. After all this is a vehicle reveal not a technical briefing
All car reviews are part technical in nature. What proportion of the video was spent talking about charging times?
@@wrutherfordx3x this is turning into pedants' corner. I've no idea of the answer and certainly won't be watching again to find out!
@@piglet5287 Typical response. You initially make quite a specific and pedantry comment about battery percentages moving from 20% to 30%, then suddenly don't want to talk "technical" The irony.
Blade battery doesn't catch fire. Main USP!
It's kind of crazy to see a car with a markup in the price of almost 100% still being considered competitive, just by selling it half a world away......
what a strange time we are living in.
@Xarifa Zee the Dolphin was designed for the Chinese market and is produced there for the mass market. The European variant needs a different production run to meet the Euro NCAP safety requirements and certification - all those costs will divided by a smaller number of units reaching this market. There are also tariffs and taxes applicable here that are not included in the US$19k headline price for the Chinese market :(
@@NunoLima1337Yep. The 20% is something that the Brits are so used to but it’s pretty eye-watering for a lot of people in other countries.
Pricing suggests we’re being ‘milked’ as a cash cow!
Only 30k! The world is off its rocker
New MG Cyberster looks interesting
my first car .......planning to buy at nepal ...recently launched at 39 lakh in nepal.......340km range variant...........ok with the range becaue it can be charged from 20 to 80 in 40 mins from fast charger no problems for long tours of 2000+km considering resting after 280-300km ,,,,,,,,500km would be mouth watering but consideruing price its range looks all is ok
I'm not sure I'd pay the current costs for an EV anytime soon. I'd sit on my current diesel (£30 VED), and not a stupid insurance group. Until I'm able to buy something decent, when there is a more competitive market both purchase and insurance price wise.
I am kind of wondering if this Dolphin will be equipped with BYD's finest sodium battery?
Not anytime soon. That for the seagull but I believe that it’s current being sold with lfp
I intend to buy my first EV this year (2023). I have heard disturbing things about the quality of service and warranty with MG. The nearest BYD dealer to me will be 40 miles away, once open that is, so that will have to wait until one is opened locally. Therefore I am going to buy a used Hyundai or Kia, as I know there warrany is solidly reliable.
I wish actual tape measures were used in describing boot sizes. I have to get my wife's wheelchair into our car and the lowest floor to seat top height and front to back measurement at the mid point would be really useful. This would also help potential buyers who have to accommodate their childen's buggy too.
Well in hk (right hand drive) they will be offering 2 version.
The top spec one should be the same as the one in the video for around 29 thousand pounds. 201bhp, 0-100km/h around 7 seconds, 60kw battery, front electric seats with air cooling, all round electric windows and electric sunroof.
The much cheaper one is less than 20 grand. But lots of things are missing. Only around 95bhp with 44kw battery, so 0 to 100km/h is around 12.7 seconds. Manual adjusted front seats, only electric window on the drivers side and no sunroof.
BYD Dolphin's 60kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, electric motor - 150 kilowatts (201 horsepower), and all other "small, compact" ICE vehicles (including fossil VW Golf 8, Opel Astra, Peugeot 208, Peugeot 308, Hyundai i30; Audi A1 and etc.) are looking quite outdated, anemic, sluggish...and actually expensive, if you add fossil fuel and maintenance costs. ICE vehicle killer has arrived in Europe! What a shame that VW, Stellantis, Renault, Hyundai, Toyota are not able to create and produce something competitive...If BYD is able to deliver the its electric hatchback in large numbers, there will be a bloodbath in the European ICE vehicle market...
Test drove this car and it's good.
I would pick this for price and battery chemistry
What is the crashed test rattig
If you are off road buyers, check the lepord e4
Does it come with free packet of marshmallows and some sticks
wobble?? try shaking the Merc A class console.....
Looks alright
£30k for a car that sells elsewhere for £16k. Usual OTT UK/EU pricing. Charging speed isn't that great &, unlike the Atto3, I don't think the rear BYD name letters can be removed because they are embedded into the light bar trim. It's the right size, decent spec & with a LFP battery but, too expensive. Smaller battery versions may be more price attractive for this size / type of car which rarely get taken on a long trips.
VW ID3 is 50% cheaper in China 😂
@@Leon-ml4tv another reason to avoid EVs for the time being? A buyers' strike seems to be the way forward and it's a lot less damaging than doctors or nurses striking
It might be cheap in China (£10,000 for basic model), but not here in the UK - what a rip off
British car dealers ripping off British people.
Definitely won't burst into flames.
It's nice, cheaper than a MG4 by a bit.
£27k is less than £30k 🤔
Looks good, "to be honest"
Why BYD Dolphin is a strange name?
BYD has three series, namely Dynasty, Ocean and DENZA. Atto belongs to the dynasty series and is named after the ancient Chinese dynasty. Atto is called "Yuan" in China, a dynasty informed by the Mongols. Dolphins belong to the Ocean series.
Not sure i'd like to put my hard cash into this but leasing one if you could get it might be an alternative.
I don’t think anyone buys a new car outright anymore
Selling in the UK for double the price? No android auto?
No thanks.
What is the warranty? 7 years on tbe MG4 will take some beating..
MG have BYD beaten on warranty as I heard its only a 60,000 mile warranty unlike the MG which is unlimited mileage (If and when you can get the parts that is)
It's a shame the inside colours are so dark, it makes the car look pretty dim. The sunroof might help, but you can really tell in some of these shots how dark it can be inside. I wish more manufacturers went for white interior trim pieces, something just to lighten it up and make a change from the industry standard of dark black trim, with a dark black dask, and dark black seats.
If you search for some pictures of the Dolphin in China, you'll see it has much brighter colour interiors. Looks like BYD decided to tone it down for export markets?
In another video, comments say the bright interior looks silly. What a taste to cater for!
@@terryzn-fb white color, a brush and a bucket of paint of your selection, I guess. lol
I looked at a Chinese-spec one at the BYD experience centre in Sydney. The interior was pink and purple with rose gold highlights. Definitely not dark.
You do NOT understand China brands vehicle naming or know anything about the China auto market or BYD's global reach and investment.
BYD Cod, for the English market 😁

The BYD Red Herring😂
Price is key

Looks like a good car
Needs to be under £20,000
It does cost less than 20,000 pounds in China. Similarly, the Tesla model3 starts at £26,500 in China, compared with £40,000 in the UK.😅
@@152dade3 China use LHD cars while UK use RHD on top of that UK has shipping fees, dealers and cars have to meet higher standards than in China
@@ezeJeff The Tesla model3 starts at around £26,600 in China, compared with £40,000 in the UK. I think it has to do with local factories and local supply chains to keep costs down. In addition, a brutal price war in China's new energy vehicle market has forced manufacturers to cut prices.
BYD is buying ro-ro ships to reduce the cost of car export transportation. According to statistics, the freight of a car accounts for 7% of the sales price
ask uk gov to reduce the 10k electric tax
Why oh why do car reviewers continually refer to the seat coverings as “vegan leather” - there is no such thing, they are PVC or Vinyl no ifs or buts call they what they are please. It doesn’t sound glamorous but hey this is a less expensive electric car, not a Merc or a BMW Uber limo
£30,000 is not cheap for a car , it’s just over inflated prices on electric cars appears to be the norm. Who will carry out the after care servicing of BYD cars in the U.K. market as well? The consumer markets have become a made in China World, can’t anyone in the U.K. anymore make Electric cars on a commercial level?
The irony! I want everything cheap. I don't want it made in China and presumably you think that you should be paid more.
The reality is that historically the Chinese have worked for a lot less money than European workers. They supply us with cheap goods, because that's what we want. We complained about shoddy products, they improved their products, they paid their workers more, now we complain about how expensive they are, even if the quality is now far superior than anything that UK manufacturers pushed out for years. I'm thinking British Leyland, Vauxhall, Land Rover and Ford. Rubbish on wheels compared to todays average EV'S.
Of course the UK can make EVs on a commercial level but price wise the UK cannot complete with Chinese EVs
Surely someone in the UK can make EV, but are you rich enough to buy it?
Took a atto 3 for a drive in Sydney , nice car went really well so smooth , in Sydney the price is about $50k with large battery,
Pretty cheaply made inside , they say that the battery price is two thirds of the price , but not in the same league as the Japanese cars , being honest $30-35k would be tops , they say it’s one of the cheapest ev in Australia but at $50k that’s not cheap . If you buy entry hybrid Corolla hybrid for $40k you could probably run the Corolla for 10-15 years with petrol and the Corolla is a lot better and probably more reliable
mate, show me an EV that's under A$40k
The atto3 price in China is AU$31k, the Oz government charged a hefty tax on it. So who to blame?
@@fatdoi003 that’s the problem way to expensive and how risky buying second hand when they come on the Market eventually

Love to buy one of these but recent views has shown them to be a real fire hazard. I have now seen so many clips on these things setting fire for no task reason at anytime has turned me off even though the price is great. Someone from byd needs to address these concerns They matter

BYD. They like to burn. They have a battery right on the bottom. Hit anything. And you have a knackered battery. Becauseits right on the bottom. No protection. 😊😊
Looks like Grammas car ! 🤷🏻♂️
I can't keep up with them
Any one can keep up with the standard range Dolphin...
How about I wouldn't have any ev because of the charging infrastructure and expense to run.
How about because I don’t like Marmite we ban sales of it for those that do like it, and whilst waiting for the ban join marmite forums to bang on to people who don’t care how much we don’t like it.
Expensive to run? If you can have a charger at home, it'll be way, way cheaper than an ICE to run. Charging at home costs only a few £, compared to filling up your tank with petrol. Even using public chargers they're still a little cheaper than ICE cars.

Looks great... burns fast...!
According to some RUclipsr right?
BYD is rising too fast, which makes some people jealous, and it may also come from rivals. In addition, as a Chinese brand car, anti-China people will also try to spread negative news. According to the statistics of the Chinese public security department, the spontaneous combustion rate of EV is ten times lower than that of petrol vehicles.
