I love Aldious. My Aldious playlist has 34 songs. They are without a singer at the moment. I hope they aren't disbanding their last concert was their best. It was with a guest vocalist.
They are not disbanding. In fact, they will be touring this summer celebrating their 15th anniversary. And from what Yoshi has been posting on twitter recently, they are writing a new album. Their current "guest" singer is Maki Oyama.
Japan´s heavy metal and rock scene it´s a really deep rabbithole. They have a lot of great bands from a long time ago, starting about the 80th and still ongoing. But, almost all of them sing in japanese, they have a huge internal market and even when they aren´t "huge", they have a solid base of followers. Yes, almost all of them aren´t well know outside Japan. The language barrier and also the fact that almost all the record labels don´t have a great interest in selling overseas (remember the big internal market) make them almos "invisible" for a lot of people. But boy... when you start digging, you can find a lot of outstanding bands, all female, all male and mixed ones. Then you ask yourself "omg... why all those bands aren´t sellings like crazy here? Remember: language barrier, huge internal market (second of the world if i´m not wrong) Also Japan have a really big tradition in music. Almost all the high school students must learn to play an instrument. Just among millons, there be some genius. Just thing happens if you put the right conditions. Also Japan have really big music schools. Not only conservatories, but really big schools to learn instruments like electric guitar, drums, etc. Also put some big festivals for rock and metal new bands and those things... happens. Remember, Japan have arround 123 millions of habitants, and are one of the most powerfull economies of the world. If want the experience the roots of metal in Japan, must look for X-Japan Maybe the most popular band in the modern Japan´s history. They were... really huge Try someday this ruclips.net/video/_me2yfR7Jfk/видео.html
Well, this one band name you can pronounce: Lovebites. Remember that name, guys, this band will baffle you. Power-metal is often a label for this band but they are more diverse. And they are the current world standard of harmonising guitars, one of theguitars being an ESP, btw. They have a back catalog of +60 tunes but the go to reaction videos are: Holy War: ruclips.net/video/2WEkVd5JrFI/видео.html Swan Song: ruclips.net/video/WBhtqgiXEA4/видео.html When Destinies Align: ruclips.net/video/hLFelI93VkM/видео.html Judgement Day: ruclips.net/video/m3uGjp-P7DI/видео.html Break The Wall: ruclips.net/video/5Pc0XK0lNmU/видео.html Edge Of The World: ruclips.net/video/UZjxMjBop7w/видео.html Enjoy!
I have no idea why they haven't touched LOVEBITES up to this point. Hope they will soon. Awesome list of suggestion you pointed out here, although I might add Stand and Deliver to the list.
Just working my way through some of your posts, and better late than never. I hope you do more Aldious. Aldious were one of the first of the new wave of Japanese girl-metal bands to form in the early 2000’s, along with Destrose, Cyntia and existTtrace. They are, in their hearts, a metal band, but have done a lot of exploring of various styles and genres. Personnel: Yoshi has been the constant (founder, lead guitar, band manager, audience right). Toki (co-lead guitar, pink Flying-V, audience left) joined a year later and has also been a constant, except in 2019 when she took time off to have a baby (during that time, Narumi toured with them for a year, in between solo projects). Sawa (bass) was there briefly at the beginning, left, and rejoined in 2010. Marina (drums) replaced Aruto, the original drummer, in 2014. Marina is the step daughter of the legendary Terry Bozzio, who played with Frank Zappa for almost two decades. As with many of the Japanese bands, Aldious have a rock solid rhythm section, over which the guitars and vocals have free range to do their thing. The biggest changes have been at vocals. Rami, the original vocalist, left in 2012 and Re-No took over. Their most commercially successful period was with Re-No, despite some controversy among their fans over whether she was “metal” enough. Re-No retired for medical reasons in 2018, and R!N stepped in. They seem to have bad luck with this position, as R!N announced she was leaving as of July 2021, also for medical reasons, after recording a few songs. Fans have vigorously debated the very different styles of the three women, with Rami being considered the most “metal” but all three bringing a unique sound to the mix. Maki Oyama has been filling in at vocal for some performances. The question now is whether they will find a permanent vocalist. Songs to check out (the first one features Aruto, the rest are with Marina on drums) “Dominator” (MV) ruclips.net/video/6GwPzPFhgAU/видео.html “We Are” (MV) ruclips.net/video/sfkJT0rra-8/видео.html “Kanasii Otoko” (live MV) ruclips.net/video/pDu-ZX2TAS0/видео.html “Reincarnation” (Live) ruclips.net/video/57UvVMWY2Vo/видео.html This last one features a spectacular collaboration with classical violinist Chieko Kinbara; it suggests Aldious could have gone in a symphonic rock direction if they chose.
Aldious is one of OGs of the new wave of female Japanese metal, started in 2008. There was a big (well...) movement back in the 80's with quite a few female metal bands.
I love these ladies. Still hoping for a new permanent singer (MAIKI OYAMA!! :P ) Marina the drummer uses the only drum set I have ever seen that has 3 bass drums, each a different size / tone. They are all talented and entertaining. They have been around quite a while, like BRIDEAR, another band I suggest you check out at some point. they released a new single recently (Eyes of Doubt) and a great album last year.(Aegis of Athena, Ray of Chaos and Brave New World (revisited) are awesome, but I love all the tracks) Marina Bozzio the drummer is the daughter of Terry Bozzio btw. Sawa the bass player has some great bass lines, fun bubbly personality and awesome cute backup vocals. Both guitarists can shred. Like most of the bands out of Japan lately, they seem to really enjoy what they do and do not take themselves too seriously to have fun doing what they love doing.
Terry Bozzio's stepdaughter on drums I believe. Lovebites has been recommended, they'll blow your socks off. Watch Band Maid too (my personal favorite) DOMINATION live. That will just be the tip of the iceberg.
I believe I found Aldious after my daughter showed me Babymetal, then Mary's Blood (disbanded- lead guitarist is in Nemophila, and some of the other ladies may also have new projects in the work), then Band-Maid n Lovebites...then all the rest...dozens.
There are great suggestions throughout the comments here - I will add Asterism and Sokoninaru to the list. My personal favorite bands from Japan, probably in this order, are: Maximum the Hormone, Band Maid, Lovebites, Unlucky Morpheus, and Nemophila, but you can't go wrong with any of the bands I am seeing suggested in the comments here
Aldious is one of my favorite Jrock/Jmetal group. It's unfortunate that they can't get much consistency in keeping a permanent singer. They have a deep catalog and I have collected all of their albums and nearly all of their singles except for their very first single. They haven't released any new material ever since the departure of R!N. Maki was a great fill in temporary but I do hope they get a new singer and new song soon. On another note I would like to recommend another Jmetal group SAISEIGA (Not all female this time). Their sound is very heavy and they have a great singer who growls/screams and does nice clean vocals. I suggest checking out "Ride On" first if you do decide to check them out. You won't be disappointed. They really bring it 🤘
Some male Japanese bands I recommend are: Versailles, Jupiter, Galneryus and Crystal Lake. Edit* adding Seikima II and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Jupiter formed as basically Versailles with a different vocalist now the only members from Versailles still in Jupiter are the two guitar players: Hizaki and Teru. These are the ones that I know I listened to. Some bands that have a mix are: Asterism, Unlucky Morpheus, QUADRATUM, Wagakki Band, Iron Bunny, Broken By the Scream and Passcode. QUADRATUM is a subgroup of Unlucky Morpheus. Passcode and Broken By the Scream are Alt-Idol groups so the four vocalists are female but their bands are male.
Sabbat, Abigail, Coffins, Serpent, Butcher ABC, and if you want to go all the way to the extremes with drum machine, Reek of the Unzen Gas Fumes (some spicy topics, for some reason those guys really have something against buddhists) there's others but i just can't remember them now, maybe once i'm sober...
Ok, as a rule of thumb all of the established all female J-Metal bands are best served live and Aldious are no exception. LIVE! Repeat after me: LIVE! 😜 We Are was a cool mini-album with a stand-out track called Travelers which was composed by Marina Bozzio and is basically a drum and Toki guitar solo for the whole song. It’s epic. Aldious are epic and you’ll probably get the least views of all the girl’s J-Metal reactions with them as the world is dumb. 😜 Anyway, enjoy your journey. Hottest new band? Hades with their MV “Bring it on” - not established, not live. 😬
Oh yeah dude was fairly spot on at the end, this is melodic speed metal. Its similar to power metal but with a big empasis on speedy riffs alot of the older stuff in the genre has more of a hardcore punk feel.
Gentlemen, I present to you ALDIOUS "Dominator" MV - ruclips.net/video/6GwPzPFhgAU/видео.html Before, Lovebites, Band-Maid, Nemonphila, etc. there was and still is ALDIOUS.
More all female Band from Japan: Bridear, Little Lilith, Ark Royal, Mary's Blood, Fate Gear, Scandal, Galmet, Disqualia, Destrose, Haze, SHOW: YA, Hagane.
Great Reaction guys. I will strongly 2nd ulftheroldjenson's recommendation for Lovebites - Talent Through the Roof. You should give Band Maid a listen. I would suggest starting with the "Domination (Live)" video. If you want to see where they started, then I would suggest "Thrill". Really, you cannot go wrong with any of their songs. I enjoyed your reaction and hope to see you guys give them a listen. For a male Band, I would suggest Ningen Isu (Heartless Scat) or Galynerius (Angel of Salvation). Still, I hope you check out Band Maid, which is another all Female Hard Rock band from Japan. Fun Fact with Aldious, Marina Bozzio is the drummer and daughter of famous drummer Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa).
Now it‘s time for the next level. Please react to lovebites. Their harmonized guitar solos will blow your mind. They are simply the best in the business 🤘🏼
I think “we are” should be “react” which is what I hear and would be a bone thrown to the reactors. I’m a gacharic spin guy but back when the girl bands were a bit more rare this was my back up band… I would also suggest unlucky Morpheus who has a female lead singer and female violinist and are some form of power metal also… I’d suggest cadaver/redavac which is a two part song and you need to figure out why it’s a two part song to really appreciate how good they are.
There are male Japanese rock and metal bands. But rock and metal are not as popular as… pop music in Japan. Skipping long story about the music industry and Japan’s culture, if you check out the music charts of japan, you will see where things are. I, myself, prefer rock. 🤘😁🤘
The big one I don't see in your video's is Mary's Blood from Japan. Another all female metal band that is made up of legit members with musical chops. Side note, one of Nemophila's guitarists came from Mary's Blood.
A nice song from, to me, an album I just cant stand. Best are the first albums, but even the previous one, Radiant A, is a masterpiece compated to We Are...this is practically the only song that isnt boring on that album...in my opinion. I have the CD and tried, but I have to torn it off after a while. No edge and almost pop
... Sorry late comment, can you shut your mouth during the music parts ? Thank you !!! And talking shit during 5 mn before it begins, what a shame !!! Ciao old US men, this from an older french man ...
You are making the same mistake most western barbarians make about Japanese bands. They do not stick themselves into a genre. Also you are poorly dressed for watching Aldoious!! The drummer, Marina Bozzio, has the 3 bass drums as tribute to her stepfather Terry Bozzio.
The drummer is Marina Bozzio, the stepdaughter of Zappa and Missing Persons drummer Terry Bozzio
I did not know that. So cool
Aldious means "Ultimate melodious" and they are even more fun live. fun fact, their drummer Marina Bozzio is the -step- daughter of Terry Bozzio
@yann messager-bourget 👍👍

The "beautiful " guitar is a Zemaitis. Miku from Band-Maid plays them.also
I'm going to add Bridear -brave new world revisited, they regularly tour Europe and are fairly well known in the UK.

Marina is actually the adopted daughter of Terry Bozzio and has said he is her "real father."
Some male Japanese bands I recommend are: Versailles, Jupiter, Galneryus and Crystal Lake.

Jupiter formed as basically Versailles with a different vocalist now the only members from Versailles still in Jupiter are the two guitar players: Hizaki and Teru.

QUADRATUM is a subgroup of Unlucky Morpheus.
Passcode and Broken By the Scream are Alt-Idol groups so the four vocalists are female but their bands are male.
I'm going to dive a little heavier (other than Crystal Lake, they can go heavy as anyone). Dexcore, Jiluka, Deviloof, and Victim of Deception.

Aldious play all sort of genre not just powermetal. I heard a poppunk and numetal song from them.

It's time for the best all female Japanese Metal band, Lovebites. Try their latest "Judgment Day"
I also present to you another band.

I think that is better to your reactions that you pause the video when you will make some comments.
... Sorry late comment, can you shut your mouth during the music parts ? Thank you !!! And talking shit during 5 mn before it begins, what a shame !!! Ciao old US men, this from an older french man ...
Sounds like you need to check out Crossfaith, Galneryus, the Gazette, Unlucky Morpheus.... There's some testosterone in the mix.
You are making the same mistake most western barbarians make about Japanese bands. They do not stick themselves into a genre. Also you are poorly dressed for watching Aldoious!!
The drummer, Marina Bozzio, has the 3 bass drums as tribute to her stepfather Terry Bozzio.
