As others have said, Aldious are one of the oldest bands of the current generation of all female Japanese hard rock/metal groups, being founded back in 2008. They've had the same guitarists and bassist since 2010 (Yoshi, Toki & Sawa), but the lack of lineup stability outside of that, particularly on the vocal side of things has really hurt their overall momentum at times.
They've just lost this drummer Marina (2015-2024) due to ongoing health issues limiting her ability to gig and the latest singer Maki Oyama is billed separately, not a support musician but also not a permanent member (she's been with them since 2021 and super reliable, but also has her own solo career). Before Maki they had three other vocalists, Rami, Re:NO and R!N. The singer here is Re:NO who left the band at the end of 2018, also with health issues, she later restarted her career as a solo singer in mid 2022.

If you search for Miku at Zemaitis, you will see her visiting their facility in Japan.
It was mostly because of the production of her "Flappy Pigeon" signature.
In 2016 she was looking for something else than Rickenbacker, which she bought more because of the aesthetics. It became a cooperation between them, which after 5 years was celebrated with her signature. During this visit, we also see how the 10K guitar is being made. Yes.. it's real Mother-pearl glued on piece by piece. I believe Miku got one too, but hangs mostly on the wall.
Hmmm.. yeah... 3 bass-drums: could be very much just for show. Tuning all 3 of them takes ekstra time, so often you see drummers with double only use 1 for the convenience. I would guess Marina did just the same when touring.

For me that is what makes her so special as you will see as you go on through their catalogue.. Her silky smooth and haunting voice perfictly suits their general style.. There are hundreds of rock voices out there, but only one Re:No.. Check out Reincarnation live and you will see what I mean... My second favorite Japanese band. Technically Aldious is power metal but a softer version of it. Nothing like Lovebites or Dragonforce. One of the BEST power ballads I’ve ever heard, and this includes anything from the 80s is Fragile from Aldious. ❤ Re:NO has a very unique voice. I miss her in the band terribly. Aldious is probably done as a band. They have been without a permanent singer for almost four years and Marina the drummer recently left as well. Makes me sad. 😞 As for the triple bass, Marina’s stepfather is Terry Bozio. Look up Terry’s “Big Kit” and you’ll understand. It’s purely for decoration.
Last point. If you want that Zemaitis pearl front “Ring” or “Ring Chess” guitar it is going to set you back $10,000.

Aldious (formed in 2008) are often credited as the band that started the all-female metal boom. Others include Destrose (2007) and Mary's Blood (2009), and of course Japan has a much longer history of all-female bands (e.g. Show-Ya; 1981). But anyway, besides making some great songs such as this one, Aldious have an important place in music history.

I then kind of lost interest until about 8 years ago when someone posted a video on Facebook of Wagakki Band doing "Kishikaisei", and that was that. WGB then led me to Aldious, Destrose and then Baby Metal, Band Maid, SCANDAL, Stereopony and a whole host of others. It's pretty much all I listen to now, music here in the US blows chunks.

There typically isn't a reason to have more than two bass drums except for visual effect. But notice that the one all the way to the drummer's right is larger so it's possible she uses it for some sonic purpose in a given song. However, with modern triggering even that wouldn't really be necessary. She could also have a trick slave pedal hooked up so she can play all three at once. But I tend to think it's probably for show.

Aldious were one of the first of the new wave of Japanese girl-metal bands to form in the early 2000’s, along with Destrose, Cyntia and existTtrace. They are, in their hearts, a metal band, but have done a lot of exploring of various styles and genres.
    Personnel:
Yoshi has been the constant (founder, lead guitar, band manager, audience right).
Toki (co-lead guitar, pink Flying-V, audience left) joined a year later and has also been a constant, except in 2019 when she took time off to have a baby (during that time, Narumi toured with them for a year, in between solo projects).
Sawa (bass) was there briefly at the beginning, left, and rejoined in 2010.
Marina (drums) replaced Aruto, the original drummer, in 2014. Marina is the step daughter of the legendary Terry Bozzio, who played with Frank Zappa for almost two decades. (She has recently announced she is leaving the band for health issues--a recurring theme for this band, which doesn't seem to catch a break.)
As with many of the Japanese bands, Aldious have a rock solid rhythm section, over which the guitars and vocals have free range to do their thing.
The biggest changes have been at vocals. Rami, the original vocalist, left in 2012 and Re-No took over. Their most commercially successful period was with Re-No, despite some controversy among their fans over whether she was “metal” enough. Re-No retired for medical reasons in 2018, and R!N stepped in. They seem to have bad luck with this position, as R!N announced she was leaving as of July 2021, also for medical reasons, after recording a few songs.
Fans have vigorously debated the very different styles of the three women, with Rami being considered the most “metal” but all three bringing a unique sound to the mix. Maki Oyama has been filling in at vocal for some performances. She herself has an extensive resume, having worked with a lot of other artists as well as her own solo projects. The question now is whether they will find a permanent vocalist. Oyama-san appears reluctant to sign on permanently, perhaps because the position is hexed (she has never said that, it’s just my speculation).
Marina recently announced she will be leaving in mid 2024, to deal with medical issue. With her impending departure, they face another lineup crisis, and we can only hope that they are able to come through again.
Songs to check out (the first one features Aruto, the rest are with Marina on drums)
    “Dominator” (MV) ruclips.net/video/6GwPzPFhgAU/видео.html
“We Are” (MV) (you just watch this)
    “Kanasii Otoko” (live MV) ruclips.net/video/pDu-ZX2TAS0/видео.html
    “Reincarnation” (Live) ruclips.net/video/57UvVMWY2Vo/видео.html
This last one features a spectacular collaboration with classical violinist Chieko Kinbara; it suggests Aldious could have gone in a symphonic rock direction if they chose.

    Great reaction NittPicc.👍
Back in 2016, Aldious was along with Mary's Blood, the most important female metal band in Japan.
But more recently the band has gone through many problems that have kept Aldious practically stucked since 2019.
The singer in this video is their second, Re:NO, she left the band in late 2018, due to hearing problems, her replacement, R!N, left the band in 2021, in the middle of the pandemic, due to severe disabling stress.
R!N was temporarily replaced by Maki Oyama, and although she may be their best singer to date, she declined to join Aldious in order to focus on personal projects.
As if all this were not enough, this year their brilliant drummer Marina Bozzio (stepdaughter of Terry Bozzio, Frank Zappa's legendary drummer), left the band due to a disabling chronic intestinal illness.
Having said all that, the future of Aldious seems a little uncertain.😐

The trouble with reacting to Aldious, who are the first successful band in this genre with their album “Deep Exceed” which should be in any metalhead’s collection, is you’ll get no views. Deep Exceed was a breakout success for a reason - it’s epic.
You’ll probably get the least views for Aldious reactions out of all the bands. I have no idea why as they are still one of the best, even two drummers and 5 vocalists in. Their live stuff is awesome and their personality as a band is just brilliant. The dresses are loosely based on “hostess” bar wear - a step up or down from the maids? lol
If you can stand the lack of views, Megalomaniac or Dominator live give a good idea of their stage act.
Marina has three bass bins because she’s Marina fucking Bozzio, daughter of Terry Bozzio of Frank Zappa and Missing Persons fame. So there’s that. 😜 He uses five, btw, it’s mostly for show. If you can find a live version of “Travelers” you’ll see how good Marina actually is. She just left the band due to a long term illness though. 😕

9 studio albums every one on Billboard Japan top 109 list.
They have about 80 songs and not one bad song in the bunch.
Highly recommend listening to Dominator live. Radiant A O East version.
Pay attention ti the chord progression and the speed of the song.

Aldious has a thrash metal sound to them that I love. This is the 1st Japanese metal/hard rock band I dove into deeply. All the while, RUclips kept suggesting BAND-MAID and I ignored it for weeks because of the maid costumes. I had had enough of Japanese gimmick bands and wasn't interested in any more.

Before that, I hoped that she would join ASTERISM on a permanent basis... But she does not join anything good, she wants to stay independent... which makes her largely unknown, I would say.

Aldious is such a good band, but a hard luck band. They have lost three singers due to health issues, including Re:No the singer in this video. Now, they have lost their Drummer, Marina Bozzio (daughter of Terry Bozzio, drummer for Frank Zappa, et al.). They launched the current wave of all female bands in Japan, but you could easily say that "if it wasn't for bad luck, they would have no luck at all".

  • @gt1man931

Blondie is many years long gone from the band. Maybe the much newer version with Maki would be more representative of their current sound(Maki is fantastic as well, the best they've had in years).
Aldious has had a convoluted ride, and has went through a few front persons, and just lost their drummer, who was top tier as well.

I was surprised you made the statement if you had one of the zemitis guitars you wouldn't sound too good considering you play several instruments in our music teacher. A band with two lead guitarists has a “twin guitar attack.” By definition, two guitarists cannot be playing a solo at the same time. Perhaps we can say that are sharing/trading leads.
The first six notes of that opening riff sound exactly like METALLICA’s one.
Notice that the vocalist sings through her nose, a technique employed by vocalists (mainly male) in so many Japanese Rock/Metal/Visual-Kei bands.
If you liked this, check out a related band featuring SAKI (ex-NEMOPHILA), MARY’S BLOOD playing MARIONETTE - ruclips.net/video/MLM2unV0kwU/видео.html

Yes. She spelled that out in describing her initial visit to the factory at their invitation. She fell in love first with the looks, but then actually tried it and the playability cinched it - way easier to play well than her Ricks. She still uses that original disc model most for practice.

@@jamesredman1263 that's right. Zemaitis, since miku kobato, reasised the obvious "girls like glittery stuff" and have totally pivoted towards the female artists who don't want to compromise on musical quality. I mean with Tony McFee and Ron Wood as the first two customers for the disc front, they've got permanent cred.
Helps that miku has this very aspirational life story, and personality as well as a band based on her besties for life.
I think the base line Japanese disc front is about 900$, maybe less.
Which is expensive but it's a great instrument really well made not just a style statement.
Many Japanese female players are super gear geeks. Kanami is not the only one with a Bogner amp.
