This change would have been good for BGS, but the way they announced it was bad (renaming 9.5 GEM Mint). Leave 9.5 as Gem Mint, Pristine 10 and Black Label as is, but add an easier 10 with the title "Gem Mint +" 9.5 stays at "Gem Mint" (so 9.5's do not need a new label). This change would let the pristine 10's have their higher quality and prices, but having the easier 10 label would allow for BGS to attract the audience of people who like getting easier ten's with PSA and CGC. BGS loses a lot of business because many people could grade a card at other companies and get a 10, but Beckett will more than likely give it a 9.5 (and most people do not want this). BGS having an easier 10 grade would allow for BGS to bridge the gap with market prices and allow for cards that would normally be 9.5's, to actually match the market value for PSA 10. For ex, if you have a Charizard Gold star Japanese psa 10, its worth around 12k. That same card could grade 9.5 at beckett, and only be worth 4-5k. This is the issue.... BGS needs to make the Gem Mint + 10 Grade to bridge the gap where 9.5 grades can meet the same level of PSA 10.
PSA is about to get real real busy again lol If they announce the min gem downgrade is official you will be able to hear the cracking noise from space. Class action lawsuit?

I do like some of the rumored changes: 1. Two 10s and two 9.5s (which should not be much less valuable than PSA 10) should be renamed gem mint 10 2. One 10 with all three 9.5 (again should not be much less valuable than PSA 10) should be renamed gem mint 10 3. Three 9.5 and one 9, previously gem mint but a lot of times not as clean as PSA 9 especially if the 9 sub grade is for corners, should be reflected as such ie 9 Mint+ 4. Two 9.5 and two 9 should also be reclassified as 9 Mint+. As for four 9.5 being reclassified as 10 gem mint, well that’s just silly and hope this does not happen as it surely will devalue the other BGS 10. Overall I like the idea of changes that make grading as standardized as possible across the four major companies, making it easier for new collectors coming in.
It will present a short term opportunity Beckett 10’s will at least bridge the gap between the value of a PSA versus the value of Beckett. This will make Beckett a more appealing option than SGC to regain the number two mantel once again. I will be buying 9.5’s with a 10 as a result
I have a Gold Refractor Autograph graded 9.5 with 10 on the Auto, BUT it has NO sub-grades! This is obviously prior to the sub-grades being shown. WTF???
My solution is to create a brand new grade called Gem Mint Plus. BGS can easily relabel high Gem 9.5's to Gem Mint Plus 10. They can do this because of their historical transparency of using subgrades, in almost every case 1 for 1. Using their single grade service, Pristine currently get subs automatically. For this solution Gem Mint Plus does as well. All Single Grade 9.5 Gems can be crossed to the new Gem 10. Put the new 9.5 Mint+ on the back burner for at least 3 years, until there is a massive number of 9.5 gem to 10 gem relabels. Then rinse and repeat for high grade Mint 9 cards. Relabel those old high grade Mint 9's to the new 9.5 Mint+. 10 Pristine Black Label (automatic subs) 10 Pristine Gold Label (automatic subs) 10 Gem Mint+ (automatic subs) 10 Gem Mint 9.5 Mint+ (delayed) 9 Mint Etc... Everybody gets the Gem Mint 10's they want, plus new more defined premium Gem Mint+ 10's. And then later down the road a new 9.5 Mint+. The cost to customer should be very consumer friendly for relabels in almost every case. Assuming there are no glaring issues to the slab/card. BGS may then arguably hold the top 5 grades in the industry: 10 Pristine Black Label 10 Pristine Gold Label 10 Gem Mint+ 10 Gem Mint (subs) 10 Gem Mint

If they change the (9.5,9.5,9.5,9) name from “Gem Mint” to “Mint+”, they will immediately devalue those cards and they will be liable for damages. Look forward to a class action lawsuit

Seems to me Beckett is going to make a lot of people move to PSA, CGS or other grading company.
To be honest, i don’t think a BGS 10 Gem Mint is a bad idea for a card with 2 10 subgrades. A 9.5 seems harsh when it’s 50/50 9.5 and 10.. but anything less than 2 subgrades absolutely should not be a 10! One 10 subgrade or less is not a 10. That said, this is the first video of yours i’ve seen, thank you for the content and thorough examination 🙏💙
You've heard of a run on banks? Well a run on BGS seems eminent... this really sucks because I am a die-hard BGS PC because of the subgrades and thicker holder ::chef's kiss:: Now I have to think about going PSA which I hate but between two evils we must choose the lesser of the two.
How can a card I paid Beckett to evaluate 15 years ago and they deemed it to be gem mint now the same card still in the same holder Beckett is saying is no longer a gem mint card. And they are saying they are not changing their grading standard's. If they go thru with this they are on their way out. Not sure who made this decision but it is insane.
Beckett is about to make a huge mess of this. According to gem rate, 80% of current 9.5 gem mint cards are min. Gems. So basically 80% of their gem mint cards just became a lower valued mint + instead of gem mint. Even quad gems which are more sought after are going to be only mint +. They seriously need to rethink this.
Yes I agree!! I have 50 9.5 bgs cards only 3 qualified for 10s….I really hope they rethink this. Like if u graded it gem mint how can u downgrade it afterwards.. it’s bullshit

Well it’s official. Beckett has now said all “true” gems with four 9.5s will now be Mint+ 🤦♂️ What a massive mistake and feels like we have all been lied to about our “gem mint” BGS cards.

Are they changing their grading standards, or just the grade/label? Or just their algorithm? If they want to compete, seems to me they should concentrate on quality, consistency and customer service and not gimmicks.
This is actually great, the only ones mad are those who are holding too many lower 9.5s. A GEM should never be less than a 10 grade, it never made sense that anyone would compared a PSA 10 to a BGS 9.5, it should always be 10s vs 10s. Also the Black Labels just became more prestigious, you will not get those any easier. I LIKE IT..!!
@@old-schoolrookiecollector1667 Think about it if a card didn't get a single 10 sub out of 4 why would it be a GEM 10? It just never made sense, it has been wrong seen the start but we all just got used to it.
For BGS to turn almost all of their gem mint slabs to mint+ is just wild. Screw over the 99% of your customers just to save the ultra rare 10 Pristine grade is downright stupid.
This will really kill the value of the BGS 10 black and gold label. Nobody will pay attention to the 10 + and 10 ++, they will only see the 10. It would be terrible for collectors who have a black and gold label.
If BGS downgrades min gems to mint plus it’ll be the single worst move a grading company has ever made. Atrocious move for Beckett, collectors, investors and the hobby as a whole.
I can maybe understand the chance in PRISTINE 10 and GEM MINT 10, all good... But the Quad 9.5 to a Gem Mint 10 and the Gem Mint 9.5 to a Mint plus doesn't make sense... I think Beckett should listen to your suggestions and do it that way 😂😂 Post it on Insta too, great explanation!! Very informative video bud!!
Yeah I agree. Let’s wait and see what the official announcement from beckett is today or tomorrow. I honestly would not be surprised if they pushed off this announcement and gave it more time. There were mini mini mini people in the hobby that told them this was not a good idea, and that it would not be well received.
Straight chaos on all different fronts. Very thoughtful points I hope Beckett has taken into consideration. At the end of the day their grading scale is too confusing especially for new people entering hobby. More will continue to flock to PSA. They should rip off band-aide and just move to new PSA grading scale with no subgrades. Then create new pop report for this new grading scale and old pop report stays with previous grading scale. People can determine what they are willing to pay based on the holder and old/new grading scale etc.
Wait...wtf?? Man I now have a bunch of BGS 10s! Hooray, now going to send all my 9.5s to convert them to BGS 10s, so I can then cross them over to PSA 10s!!! LOL
Its a joke. 20+ years of a grading scale and now your going to change it? The announcement should simply state that all BGS slabs are now worth 20% less than before we made a joke of the company.
Sadly it’s not. It’s official. If they do take it all back and pretend it’s April fools then they decided that post hobby reaction yesterday. It’s been in the works for months.
I’m with you Brian. I hate change. If Beckett wants to narrow the gap on psa they need to lower prices and have faster turn around times.
I still find all these huge cards that are sold at auctions like pwcc and goldin still go through bgs for grades though . I prefer the look of bgs too

A GEM should never be less than a 10 grade, it never made sense that anyone would compared a PSA 10 to a BGS 9.5, it should always be 10s vs 10s. Also the Black Labels just became more prestigious, you will not get those any easier. I LIKE IT..!!
If you were holding a valuable BGS 10 now I don't think you would want the pop report to jump up because of changes .
True gems with four 9.5 sub grades was the standard gem, seems like a mistake by Beckett to not include them in the new 10 crossover grade..
@@old-schoolrookiecollector1667 Think about it if a card didn't get a single 10 sub out of 4 why would it be a GEM 10? It just never made sense, it has been wrong seen the start but we all just got used to it.
PSA for me going forward now, this is a damn mess with Beckett.
April fools.
Let’s catch up to psa by devaluing our cards and making gem minting even harder!!! Bgs…I used to love u. U ran ur company into the ground
For BGS to turn almost all of their gem mint slabs to mint+ is just wild. Screw over the 99% of your customers just to save the ultra rare 10 Pristine grade is downright stupid.
April fools.
This will really kill the value of the BGS 10 black and gold label. Nobody will pay attention to the 10 + and 10 ++, they will only see the 10. It would be terrible for collectors who have a black and gold label.
April fools.
Wow.. my head is spinning.... thus buy the card not the slab.
Best advice yet. The CARDS in bgs 9.5 didn’t change!!!! Only the labels will. Screw that.
Haha right? No 10s at all, boom BGS 10 baby!
April fools.
I was really hoping this was going to turn out to be a leaked April Fools' joke and they would do a fake announcement tomorrow.
Same. Smh
April fools.
If BGS downgrades min gems to mint plus it’ll be the single worst move a grading company has ever made. Atrocious move for Beckett, collectors, investors and the hobby as a whole.
I agree 100% and I hope BGS is listening. It’ll be the last thing they do in this hobby. Disastrous consequences if they do it
April fools.
April fools.
Beckett is turning their 9.5s into PSA 9 which removes any competitive advantage they have over SGC, CSG, etc.
April fools.
Wait...wtf?? Man I now have a bunch of BGS 10s! Hooray, now going to send all my 9.5s to convert them to BGS 10s, so I can then cross them over to PSA 10s!!! LOL
You do realize these new 10s lose value now across the board unfortunately.
April fools.
Yea. I echo your thoughts. Bad move BGS.
April fools.
What would this mean for a card with 9 9.5 10 10 subgrades?
Nothing. Stays 9.5 as far as I understand it.
April fools.
I have 5 BGS slabs in my PC….out of 90 slabs. Enough said
April fools.
No Bgs should just take all 9.5 gem mints and make them tens universal
Poor zack
When people forget about April fools 🤣🤦🏿♂️
PSA the only way.
I wish they would just do away with the .5. Either make it a 9 or a 10. Like psa.
April fools.
Its a joke. 20+ years of a grading scale and now your going to change it?
The announcement should simply state that all BGS slabs are now worth 20% less than before we made a joke of the company.
I'm pretty its a April fools joke ..
It wasn’t but they cancelled the changes and will revisit and announce next week
I'm done with Beckett! Lost huge amounts of money
Do you not realize this is April fools?
Sadly it’s not. It’s official. If they do take it all back and pretend it’s April fools then they decided that post hobby reaction yesterday. It’s been in the works for months.
What would this mean for a card with 9 9.5 10 10 subgrades?
Exactly. I have no idea. But BGS cancelled the changes Saturday night
