Personal souvenir. I remember that day when I saw them for the 1st time. It was broadcasted on french TV Les Enfants du Rock week-end show. I was 16 and decided I would walk, dance and look like Jim… And I did for a few years! Sons and fascination/Sisters feeling call is still my favorite LP!
This illustrates PERFECTLY what I love about live music. A band has a great song, but played live it’s elevated to a whole new level. This song starts off with such head turning energy I’m instantly drawn in. But then that was so many bands at that time. And I completely agree with the person posted this video. That this was when Simple Minds were a force in music. As opposed to the Jim Kerr show they became. They lost their driven to win harder edge that they started with. Which was true of many to me. Such as Echo & The Bunnymen, Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Cure … they all got happy. And it sucked for their music. Didn’t keep me from going to see them live, but their early music as well as shows were the sh&t!
The first 30 seconds of this song are what make it for me; brilliant intro that builds u to vocals and by then the hairs on my arms / neck are standing up ! This is proper Simple minds, not pop music.
I was good mates with Kenny for a while I n the late 80,s when he was our percussionist,,,great guy,no ego about being in simple minds ,,he knew how to party, great days !!
How it was on the Club Scene in Scotland. Simple Minds pre fame - having a drink with them after the gig.... Underground scene. Ballet shoes and Eye liner optional xx
The way Jim Kerr danced int he early days was SO magnifique, just stunning

Fantastic. And watching this reaffirms the amazing upgrade with Gaynor coming on board shortly afterwards
I agree they completely blanded out .... being big in the U.S. was more important than keeping their creative output they started out with....
Awesome track !
If you were lucky enough to see the simp!e minds during 79/80/ in the large club scene they were untouchable,,blew away all comers !!
Saw them in Edinburgh 1980 at Clouds. Fell in love with the sound.

Is it the drummer who played on "New Gold Dream"?
Beautiful document by the way.
There were 3 drummers on NGD - Kenny Hyslop, Mel Gaynor and Mike Ogletree
Pinnacle. Pre World domination. End of gigging as we knew them.
Jim trying to develop an unorthodox mic holding position. Been watching too much Alvin Stardust. 😅
77 - 81.

I like the Minds up to New Gold Dream but never saw the attraction in this song and track - too loud and lumbering.
toooooooo cool!
