This was their best year . 1981 Sons and Fascination tour . Jim said it’s his favourite album of theirs and in my opinion I would agree. It’s a pity we don’t have a full soundboard gig from this British or the following Australian tour. Come on Jim bring one out next year for its 40th anniversary. I’d be first in queue to buy it.
I remember buying all of the Simple Minds back catalogue after hearing Promised you a . . . buying the Sweat in Bullet 12" and double back and being confronted with these amazing live versions. Later I bought the I Travel reissue on Arista with I travel & 30 Frames a second live . . The energy and intent are electrifying. Wish Sons and Fascination would get the box set treatment with this whole gig . .
I’m such a fan of Mel but the drumming on this (Kenny Hislop?) is just perfect. Very “electronic”. It perfectly supports the angular nature of The Minds earlier output. Proto-electronica anyone?

So happy I've found this recording, I was there in the audience, brilliant gig, Simple Minds at their peak... Icehouse was the support band. 😍
Sons and fascination - sister feeling call the double album is their best ever for me totally brilliant thank you for sharing

cool - I was at this gig. I have a vivid recollection of Jim Kerr falling over quite badly at some point. The support act was Icehouse.
