Footage: Same concert but random footage
@snortbrick Agreed. Re: "Underneath the Ice" Live (same gig). Was remixed so much it would have sounded much different to the audience at the time. Then again, it still interesting to listen to.
I was there at the time.
SM was on fire that evening and CF & CW was I remember outstanding !
Enjoy.
Great version, underrated masterpiece
Pure minds
One of the interesting things about SM in the early 80's was the fact the BASS was high in the mix because they had an innovative bass player who didn't just play the mechanical notes. DF's playing was funky, exciting and could be heard. Unfortunately, he left and in my humbles SM's were never the same band again.
you are spot on....
I will say John Giblin wasn’t bad as a replacement. His work on Once Upon a Time and SFY was brilliant.
Love the synths
The bass should be dominating this song, the synths have hijacked it.
phenomenal bass from derek forbes . never the same band without him and mick mcneil .
I couldn't agree more..those guys where creative geniuses
How many times we need to read this..move on guys 😉
Derek was fantastic but Eddy Duffy playing here was also outstanding.
My all time favorite!
In my eyes this track sounds better than ever before!!!
Sounds fantastic we are listening just now 4 mad simple minds fans far Glasgow more beer guys
great job tony... one of my favourite songs from the boys.. classic one today and yesterday..
Superb Mel king of drum no now with Pink Lady no please
Let me see your hands! Always come back to this, Tony. Much appreciated.
So much truth about when Forbes and MacNeil left. When I was in my teens SM were so so cool. Arty, experimental, groundbreaking then they just went all R AWK on us.
Forget everything after sparkle in the rain which itself showed their sound being changed and not for the better
Immortal Music
Who is listening this in 2088 on Mars?
I think, Jim hates Bass since Derek left. If you compare this with orignals from the 80ties (you can find here as well,) you know, why we once loved simple minds...
Love this version of the best track off NGD
@coys77 Sadly, you are right. It wasn't performed then (in London). They peformed it on the 5th February (and then dropped it from the set list for 10 days). Thanks.
Great version yes but the bass master Mr Forbes would have given this added sparkle.
where`s the bass line went. this has ruined a very good song by making it synth first.
I agree with you pal.
aber immerhin ist der Bass lauter als bei den meisten Aufnahmen in der Zeit nach DF,
und der Kollege spielt das auch ganz brav, etwas angestrengt, aber akkurat...
One of my fave Minds songs, and this sounds amazing. Don't think they played this 2 days before in London when I was there..
Yes, my fave of faves as well. When McNeil left they become more of a rock band and less of an art band.
Of all the masterpieces this is the most underrated
Burgh boy what you on about you tube.....??
Now is like karaoke 2022
@MrDemilord NO! the Guitars should be dominating with the Synth just behind the two guitars.
@snortbrick
Probably Jez Coad again!!
@TerenceHill24 and mine also terry a complete synth wall of sound !!!
