NO, your'e NOT alone in believing NGD to be their ulrimate best song - their Master Piece! And the whole entire record to be their very best ever - with not a single "weak" title. Love it to bits. Never ever tire of it, even having listened to it hundreds of times through the years. This IS what turned me into a life long devotee of SM. Finding this footage to be absolutely stunning; the singing, playing, lightning ans a wonderful enthusiastic crowd! 😘❤️❤️❤️👌
2023 - listening to this on headphones after a few Jack and cokes. Fuck me what a band. Mel Gaynor and the bass player drive this like a galloping thoroughbread. Charlie's guitar just adding to the perfection. Cheers to you all, you made my night
We need to take a moment to remember that this song is 40 years old. What a tune difficult to play live, but this is unbelievable!! Mel Gaynor The God of Drums
At 73, chills all over! Just a FANTASTIC tight group!!! At a time in my life, music is the 1, the only ONE, thing that inspires me through my 73 years!
I'm only 36, but this band, and many others not even from my time... have gotten me through the many sad times. Don't know where I'd be without it. It's the one constant, in a time of disposable everything.
I’ve seen SM on every tour to Aus in last 10 years apart from the last one. Too many line up changes and people in the band who haven’t really been a part of the music. I’ve got nothing against the new members but wish the line up of the past decade was still there.
So true. I added Kraftwerk, Art of Noise, the Cure, Propaganda, The The, Yazoo and some grittier stuff like Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Sisters of Mercy, Cassandra Complex in for good measure, but those were good times!
I don't know if I'll ever get to see this amazing band. I'm only 36, but I've loved them since I was 20. Obviously, they are before my time, but great music transcends generations. It's there for whoever looks for it. This particular song, just makes me think of turning 21, and the hope and wonder I had for the future. Listening to this on a sunny day, driving in the hilly roads where I live, made me feel invincible at the time. I miss that feeling.
Well written. Simple Minds has an epic timeless aura over them. Im pushing 40 and have been listening to them since my teens and still find a gem or two that i didn't think much of then. Much love and respect from Sweden!
They were magnificent on the 80’s when I saw them live. The women went crazy for Jim and his band. I guess that dated me but that’s ok. I heard the best music as a 20 something in the 80’s.🎉😂❤
If you don't get goose bumps with this one, you're officially death. Brilliant band and loved them performing live during the 80s in Deinze. Hope to see them back soon in Belgium to throw back the 80s
There’s not many ‘stadium bands’ left and I’ve been following these guys since I was 17! I’m 57 now and these live gigs still bring a huge smile to my face, keep it up lads!! Great work.
OK, so back in the day, after "Don't You (Forget About Me)", which was powerful, I purchased New Gold Dream. I played it into needle burn. Still to this day, best album/memories. Thank you boys.

so glad they play this in concert now - saw them in 1984 and we snuck down to front row and I held up a sign asking them to play this and he gave me a sheepish look because they didn't have it prepped for the set
The spirit and the atmosphere that the synthesizers give is simply mind-blowing, this song is the very essence of my young adult life in the 80s, magnificent memories.
As much as I love the album version, hearing it live is immense. I've listened to many live versions today on You Tube , and this and the 2003 ones are stunning 😍
Cant wait for Belfast 2022… will be my 5th SM gig… starting in Phoenix park Dublin early 80s with U2 Big Country The Eurythmics Steel Pulse and A Perfect Crime
I had the good fortune of seeing Simple Minds live in Toronto in a average size venue, honestly the place was hopping, dancing, clapping, what a fantastic time and performance. I hope they return one day to Vancouver - I relocated.
Just saw the band live on tour in Oct. 2018. Could not believe it when Jim Kerr said they were afraid to come over the pond--that maybe no one would remember them. Are you kidding me? The sold-out shows attest to the great love & admiration that exist for Simple Minds out there!
Heard this tonight in the car for the first time in 30 years. Could be their best IMO. Forgot i even had the album in my stash. Just gave me retro whiplash from my youth. 56 now and it sounds just as great as it did when i was in my 20's. And moves me just the same as it did then. Brilliant.
Bit of a bummer here: after 2 yrs of waiting, in Amsterdam they left NGD out of the set...could not believe it! Concert was excellent, and with nearly 3 hrs they did not take it lightly, but driving home i couldnot help feeling we missed something....
How can I explain that... ? Simple Minds is clearly far ahead many other bands. They have proved through years their ability to create so many classic songs with such emotions. Even these old songs are fantastic and sounds like anthems : New Gold, Speed Your Love, Waterfront, Sanctify, Real Life, Home,Stars Will Lead. They remain incredible and so convincing, valuable, a real musical force. They can be hugely proud to their career.
He is now as old as me1 Whatever happened to Jim Kerr's voice after 30 years? It is still amazing! I was trying to teach my son what New Wave was, and sent him New Gold Dream, I have no idea if he gets it, but it was my life I I had the most erortic moments of my life
new gold dream was a monumental album , and always makes the snakes crawl up my back , especially the tk. hunter and the hunted. glad to see people still remember.

Miguel Carvalho Absolutely, love the slowed down version of NGD although I always get sad when Jim says goodnight (as if I can’t immediately listen to the whole album again !)
Is that really a key change? The song is still played in the same key, although with different chords (which are already in the song earlier) and the sound gets heavier, IMHO.
Sono cresciuta a pane e ottima musica!!!!! Jim e la sua band....semplicemente favolosi, li ho visti a Roma 2 volte e l'emozione è stata grande, sentirli e sognare è tutt'uno!!!❤😊😊

I guess I’m not the only one that thinks this is their best song. I always wished this song was like 9 minutes
I think they were always at their best producing this kind of atmosphere, with the keyboards and guitar interacting IMHO.
Agree totally with your words 👍👍👍
You could always listen to the 12 inch

Unbelievable & in my opinion the original trance track, ten years before that kind of dance music came along in the early 90's.
One of the best bands of all time
