The difference between Pablo’s and Luminance is the hardness. Caran D’Ache makes each separate color with a unique recipe to make every pencil in a set the same hardness. Artists requested that. Pablo’s are 6B, Luminance is 8B. Pablos are water resistant; Supracolor are Pablo equivalents, but with water soluble binder. Luminance are water resistant; Museum Aquarelle are Luminance equivalents, but with water soluble binder. All are professional grade. Water soluble binder pencils are not as lightfast as their as their water resistant equivalents. Interestingly, Museum Aquarelle are acid free, making them more archival than watercolor paint made with gum arabic binder (acidic). One Museum Aquarelle pencil is equal to about 1/2 pan of watercolor paint; that makes them very affordable when compared to expensive watercolor paint brands (still made with gum arabic, ick!). Caran D’Ache pencil are also made with more finely ground pigments than any other pencils. And the Caran D’Ache blender pencil adds 10% lightfastness to any brand of colored pencil it covers.
Wow, great info, thanks for sharing!
I have done my own research prior to this, and can confirm all of this.
No one on RUclips does the extra arduous work you and Steve do for their channel or viewers, kudos
The difficult names seem to generally be the actual pigment that I presume are used in the pencil . Most professional paint companies use a similar naming system for their paints. It is actually really helpful for people ordering to know the pigment used.
The pigment names come from chemical names, i.e. Phthalocyanine.
The crazy names are pigment names based on the chemical structures found in the pigments. :) I'm a chemistry instructor with a degree in organic chemistry - let me know if you'd like any help with pronunciation! :)
I love the shimmery sound effect with the FSS Satisfied. That made me laugh out loud the first time I saw it!😄
I usually don’t have the time to comment because I am a long haul truck driver. I mount my IPad on my dash so I can watch, mostly listen and glance, while I drive, so I cannot post.
I love your guest.
I want to comment on how much I enjoy and appreciate they way you include Steve in your videos. It is a real joy to see how your two work together lovingly. He looks at you with such adoration. Something you don’t see much of. It is amazing at how he appreciates you and how he takes interest in everything important to you. I also appreciate his photography, I would like to see more of his work.
Beautiful pencils. You guys are so generous with your charts, pages, and giveaways. Thanks for all that you share with us :)
omg I love that your cat sleeps with your dog. I can't focus with their cuteness in the background.
Oh my Goodness!!! You guys are being sooo incredibly generous with this giveaway. That is a HUGE huge giveaway. I've been coloring and doing art for years and I've been very blessed but these have stayed on the wishlist forever it seems. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to even enter. Best of luck to everyone!!
36:17 that's not MIT but IMIT as for imitation, meaning they're not using the real pigment but a substitute, in the specific they're saying they're not using cadmium which maybe toxic.
I really hope you read this so you can fix the chart which is otherwise perfect and amazing, thank you so much for all the work you put into it!
I just treated myself to the Luminance 40 count box, and I was swatching them with this video playing. Maybe they’ve adjusted something in the formula since you made this 2 years ago, but I found these to be the least crumby pencils I’ve tried. I had NO crumbs for 39/40 of the pencils. I’m in love and can’t wait to fill out my collection! Thanks for a very informative video/channel!!
Jennifer and Steve I am lost for words. Thank you for the opportunity to win 🏆 wow! So generous. Good luck everyone.
Good job with those difficult names. Thanks for all you do for us.
Luminance is in a class all by itself. FSS for sure!
Thank you for another great video! My first time I was able to catch the livestream!
Amazing review! I am just wondering if you are the first people that have questioned the Swiss company!? I have watched several videos and they did not catch or did not feel confident in their conclusions. I know that different pigments feel differently from one another. Some pigment no matter how many times they grind it up it is corse! I have made my own watercolor paints and cost and coarseness changes from pigment to pigment. I imagine to get a line of products to feel alike and work the same is very difficult! I had trouble getting 10 colors to work together well. Thank you for sharing all of the information about these pencils! I am also glad of your amazing generosity to your viewers! Please take care, be safe and have a lovely day!
Waaauw! It is amazing that you are giving this away! I think this set is on everyone’s wishlist! How sweet of you ❤️

DAAAANG! You guys! So excited for whoever wins it!
I’m so surprised that you made it through swatching the set on all three papers before you changed the color order! This giveaway is AMAZING! Your channel is so helpful, thanks! And that picture of Steve and the cat is everything!
I am finally able to follow my favorite coloring couple again after the rollercoaster in my life. You and Steve have such a nice energy. I love watching your videos. Thank you for this giveaway 😊
Wow! That was a lot of work for swatches. Thank you 😊. It was fun to watch. I love how deep the colors are!
You guys are the best!!! ❤💙
The names are the pigment names used in the formulation. In all paints - watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oils - professional companies do the same. There are abbreviations… Quin. Purple, Phthalo Green, etc, that are easier to say. Using the pigment names helps artists to color match across brands. Hope this is helpful!
Wow!!! Is all i can say. U guys r so generous! 🤗 Thanx so much for all ur teachings. Hope u have a wonderful day 🌹
Good luck to everyone! Their giveaways are amazing!!
Wow. So much work involved in creating the swatches for your audience. I love your attention to detail. I understand doing a trio workbook for Luminance might be difficult, but that would be so helpful. Choosing colors for my art seems to be the most difficult hurdle for me. Thanks again for all the time and effort you put into this.
As an existing Luminance owner, thanks very much for the swatch charts! I'm interested to see how you've switched up the order from their boxed palette. The colour names are pigment names, they're the chemical component names the same as you'd find if you were searching pigment for oil or watercolour paints.
Dreaming of the day I can maybe get these. Thankyou for allowing everyone the opportunity to receive these. Fingers crossed.
Wow! Luminance pencils are one of the best in the market! Have a bunch of them already but satisfying my full syndrome set would be really awesome! That is so generous of you!
Thanks for another great video. Would love these pencils. Good luck everyone!
I love your videos, they are very entertaining and they have so much useful information in them 👍👍
Thank y'all for the fantastic chance to win this fabulous gift!!! Y'all are da best. 😊
Oh my gosh, what a dream giveaway! Somebody will be so lucky… thank you for the chance. Jen you and Steve are so much fun. I do not own any of the Caran Dache at all, they look super cool. Yes I love your tri-tones and duo tone sounds great!

Whoa! I really thought it was the Carbothello's since there is a partner on the site. I'm mind blown just how the two of you are so much generous. I can only dream of owning something like Caran D'ache, so thank you very much for the chance owning one!💗
What an awesome giveaway.! I would love to own a full set of these. Thanks for swatching them in a workable order and for such a fabulous giveaway!
Wow! This is awesome!
Awesome giveaway! I didn't dare hope it was going to be them... oh me of little faith I guess, LOL.
I'm glad you ordered them, I'll be comparing to my own order for the 76 set and see if I like yours even better. I was amused to see your process is almost identical to mine, down to color groups with the columns with the number and the little square swatches, and the second look after to switch them around as needed.
OMG! This is a wonderful huge dream of a giveaway!!! Thanks for sharing all these great and helpful results! I also just love the coloring charts, need to get them myself. :D Greetings and big thanks!
Hi to u both. I can’t even imagine how long it took u to do all those swatches. What a set! Until I saw your posts I didn’t even know Caran D”ache did such a set. They looked amazing on the swatches. I’ve yet to try any pencils on black paper, but this set on the black looked stunning. Like everyone else, would be amazing to win. Good luck to everyone 💕 Loved seeing Creamy and the moustache, made me laugh Steve. Take care everyone 💕
creamy is so cute. Thanks for the vid, loved it.
So generous!! What an amazing giveaway!! ❤️
Thank you for the wonderful giveaway!!

You are glowing this week! Purple hair suits you. 😜
So excited as I’m just starting out
Love this!
I love you guys, your creative minds and beautiful pencils you show us. Thank you for charts, pages, and giveaways. And I am in interesting for duo tone zone pencils. At least I have 5 pencils now. :)
Thank you for the opportunity 😍😍
Love it!
Fantastic and generous giveaway. Great review as always.
Yes, I would like to see the tri or duo tones. Either or both would really be of value, very helpful.
yes on the tri/duo tones-do both!
You are offering a fabulously generous give-away. It will make for a wonderful coloring experience for the winner. As to your question about tri-tones, I say, don’t waste your time and effort. At least for me, I prefer to make my own blends and don’t look to see what someone else has done. But I’m pretty experienced in color theory and color mixing. Newer colorists likely would feel differently.
Enjoyed watching this video even though any Caran d'ache products would be far too expensive for me as I live in South Africa. Always learn a lot from your videos, thank you for all the time you and Steve put into making these videos.
They're so pretty. I love how smooth and rich the colors are. I have FSS too. 😂
How cool! Good luck everyone xxx
Looking forward to tonight!
My husband bought me the set for Christmas. They really do feel different to other pencils and the colour payoff is amazing
I would love those for sure, I am actually planning to buy them when I get my bonus at work. I did my first colored pencil review using your chart on my art channel. I'm a beginner but I did have fun doing it.
What an awesome and unexpected giveaway. God Bless.
Keep up the awesome videos 💙
