I clicked because of the OBS truck in the thumbnail but also because of the Quonset Hut and it's old military connection. Always thought one of those would be a cool garage! An OBS inside one is even cooler!!
My oldest son and I took a vacation in BC about 30 years ago. Loved the people and scenery. We stayed over a month camping out, fishing, eating berries, and touring around seeing the awesome sites. Even wound up on a nude beach where they had a volley ball tournament going. I couldn't stay there long with my young son.
Nice shop!! I have my fabrication and mechanic shop crammed into a 35'x20' (~11.5x6.5m I think) quonset hut behind our rental. 5ft (1.5m) cripple walls that the hoops sit on top of give me a good ceiling height. I hung a trolley and chainfall from an I beam that runs the length of the ridge. No lift... yet! I also have the same big snap on box that I picked up used from a windowed neighbor. Also separated my fabrication stuff into a separate box a few months ago. I laid out the drawers a bit differently when it was also my fab box and haven't reconfigured it much since. Seeing yours has me thinking about swapping it around a bit.
Thats awesome! Glad you got some ideas from my video! Im planing some changes around my shop as well. It never ends i guess. Sounds like you have a nice shop, spray foam was the best money i spent on it. Stopped condensation, keeps heat in and makes it quiet when im hammering away into the late evening. ✌️
Nice shop. And you have it set up well also. I have started 7 or 8 shops over the years and always moved on before I got them finished. I have a 2 car car port that I work in now. I plan on closing it in soon. Thanks for the tour!!!
Thanks! Shop is a work in progress, but I guess they all are 😅. Closing in your car port is a great idea, I would definitely do that if I owned one. I have some great ideas on how I will be changing things up around here and getting new equipment, thanks for the Sub. I will make a update video when I get around to it. Cheers.
Very nice! Clean and task-focused with efficiency in mind. I’ve missed out on a couple of those pallet racking deals (like your Sears deal) by just minutes. One of these days, I will successfully drag some home lol. Be Well! -Lance in Oklahoma
Very neat set up ! I have your same bottom roller , is there any vehicle that you can’t fully lift because of height restrictions such as a 114” high top sprinter van or full size van ?
Thanks, i have had some vehicles not lift very high on the hoist before it hits the shut off bar at the top. But overall it works great for 95% of what i work on.
Love seeing a fellow BC mechanic. Always heard of guys setting up shop in the quonset huts but never actually seen it in action. This is really giving me ideas. Where in BC are you located? if you dont mind sharing that info
@@Finding_Our_Way I won't lie I prefer the Okanagan just for the variety of seasons, more sun, less seasonal big sad. Wages are about the same for auto techs out here compared to the island and cost of living is about the same too
The biggest help to my business, was servicing used car lots. I have built up a good relationship over the years with one in particular, and they account for approx 90% of my business now. I prefer it to dealing with other customers. Its more on my schedule this way, VS working around clients schedules.
The ceiling lights were already installed when i bought the place. But it looks like they have chains bolted to the ceiling. And lights are hung from chains. 👍
I had a company do it that does residential. I was told it is fire retardent and safe. I had some wild $$ quotes. But found a new guy that just bought a spray foam company and we made a deal.

Haha thank you! It is a great truck, one of my favorite vehicles I have owned. ✌️
Nice shop who painted that truck looks awesome
Best painter I ever met. His name is Dan.

😅😂 Well it sounds like BC left an impression on you. 👍 It is beautiful here.

Thanks Lance! I do like efficiency 😁. I hope you score a sweet deal on some racking! ✌️
Looks good, paint the SPF white and it will brighten it up inside even more. Cheers
Good idea!
Cool Shop

nice shop, I'd love to have mine insulated.
It was pricy, but well worth it. :)

Thanks man, its a simple life, but I enjoy working alone. I am actually on Vancouver Island.👍
@@Finding_Our_Way No way! I'm from Campbell River originally, out in the Okanagan now

@@admkanne intresting take. Ya The cloudy damp days can get to you here, I wish we had more sun like Alberta.
What tips do you have for getting customers as a backyard mechanic

Hi from Hamilton, Ontario. That could well be a dream shop for most mechanics out there. Hats off to you brother.
How are your lights hung from the ceiling? Wiring up mine but not sure how to properly hang my lights.
The ceiling lights were already installed when i bought the place. But it looks like they have chains bolted to the ceiling. And lights are hung from chains. 👍
I strapped EMT conduit to the hoops and hung the lights off the conduit in mine.
did you treat the spray foam or use fire retardant kind?
I had a company do it that does residential. I was told it is fire retardent and safe. I had some wild $$ quotes. But found a new guy that just bought a spray foam company and we made a deal.
What size hut is it?
Its 38" Long and 34" wide
