  • In this video, we share with the world, first time footage, 13 years later of the first Underground Quonset Hut that we built in 2010.
This is the first time ever, a structure of this nature had ever been built and after hours, days, and weeks of extensive research and planning with highly skilled underground builders in the community along with our experience, we made it happen flawlessly.
Our specific techniques have proven the test of time (13 years) in one of the wettest climates in America, the Pacific Northwest in Washington State.
There are numerous details to this entire type of project that we do not share to the public for a reason and we do not endorse anyone to ever attempt to do this without professional guidance and properly engineered plans. If you desire to have your own Underground built, send us an email through our website or email provided below and we'll get back to you asap.
Thank you for viewing and click the Thumbs UP button and subscribe, if you enjoyed this video and found it informative!

I would probably consider having a separate sealed room inside for the generator. If ever found the power supply it would be the first to get shutdown forcing anyone out. Exhaust would be about 20ft up so it can’t be reached. With a 5000L diesel tank. Ah many many designs that could be done.
    This is definitely a beauty.

Regarding the main 12" air intake air pipe. It appears to be the plastic double wall pipe and I assume it has a slight downwards slope to expell any condensation that might develop . What is the white powdery looking substance inside the pipe? It appears black on the bottom where water may have condensed back out. Based on the dead/dry vegetation covering the structure you appear to have a pretty dry climate. Did you ever have moisture problems in this pipe and what is the white discoloration? Did you have a mold problem? On mine I made the intake pipe 24" so that I could get in there with a mechanic's creeper to clean or disinfect the inside if need be.

There is zero mold issues, let me follow up with you asap, I will ask the builder. I will say there is no condensation or mold.
This was filmed a few weeks before the rains have now arrived. There are 2-3 months in the PNW where is hardly ever rains in the summer. That is why it is dry. I am not the builder but my opinion is that smaller 12" vent pipe allows more airflow, perhaps using a 24" intake and 12" outtake would be better but as we've mentioned, they've lived here for 13 years and zero issues.
Could you post the exact time on the video you have seen the white discoloration? I'll bring this upto my business partner and follow up 110% !

The reality is that when you're trying to create natural airflow, you don't want to have giant openings. 12 inches is pushing it to begin with. That's why I have the guillotine vents to shut it down to get airflow moving, when air is going through a vent for 13 years you're going to get some specks of dust and minerals settling on the black pipe, which appears as a light chalky substance not mold. The nose is the best detector, and the place smells as fresh as a spring day. (Reply from the master builder)

Interesting structures. I would like to have a home built into a hill/mound someday. Mostly for the insulating and sound deading purposes.
I understand this is old footage you are showing but in the future a gimbled camera or motion stabilization would help with the quality of the video.
The technique i was thinking about using is precast concreate slabs and I-beams. Close cell insulation and a vapor barrier on the out side and a Adobe like finish inside.
I also want the home to be grid free so now power gas or water bill.

It’s a good idea, but for some reason, this place is very cluttered. Doesn’t look that great inside. Also yes turn your camera sideways. Not sure why people still do this by turning your camera straight up and down it’s ridiculous. Also, you’re moving around too fast. You have to slowly pan, the area this could be a really cool place if they had fixed it up a little better with some nice woodworking interesting video

I recommend a new videographer. I’m dizzy just in the first 30 seconds. You would think if you were going to make a video you would prepare yourself and use proper English.

Do you have to use the Q model quonset hut or can you use the S model?

    • @VikingShelters
      @VikingShelters  5 месяцев назад

It really depends on what the purpose and what your end goal is.. the S model wouldn't be as strong due to it not being a full arch but could work depending on how you build and ultimate goal.

Post a video of your home after living there for 13 years 😉 everyone's different and has stuff that builds up. The point of this video isn't to share such things, it is to share the potential to build a very waterproof underground shelter within 2 months that's bigger than most anything else with other techniques....

For me It would be too much of a closer phobic to live in that small of an area. 2 women ,4 tiny bedrooms ?
Why such small rooms for only 2 women ?
I would have built 2 large bedrooms to be comfortable. But hey, that's their hut, not mine.
