Airbus A350 vs Boeing 787 Dreamliner: Which Reigns The King?
In the realm of advanced airliners, the Airbus A3 50 extra wide body, or XWB and Boeing 7 8 7 Dreamliner stand out as the industry's leading aircraft. They are both celebrated for their innovative technologies and performance, but they differ in design philosophy, range capabilities, and operational efficiencies. Find out in this episode of flig avia: How are they different and similar? And more important, which is the best aircraft?
Airbus A350 vs Boeing 787 Dreamliner: Which Reigns The King?
The Boeing 7 8 7 Dreamliner, which first flew in 2009, was designed to meet the demand for more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft. In response, Airbus launched the A3 50 in 20 13. The aircraft was originally planned as an upgraded A3 30 with new engines and improved aerodynamics. However, Airbus soon realized that a slightly enhanced A3 30 couldn't compete with the all-new, composite fuselage Dreamliner. Consequently, the A3 50 evolved into the A3 50 XWB, featuring a composite fuselage paired with metal wings. Boeing, an American aerospace company, produces the 7 8 7 Dreamliner, while Airbus, a European multinational aerospace corporation, manufactures the A3 50 XWB. Each company brings its own expertise and design philosophy to their aircraft.
Airbus A350 vs Boeing 787 Dreamliner: Which Reigns The King?
In terms of cockpit design, the Boeing 7 8 7 and Airbus A3 50 are both equipped with sophisticated glass cockpits that are the epitome of modern avionics innovation. The 7 8 7's cockpit retains a classic Boeing layout, offering a sense of familiarity for pilots transitioning from the company's earlier aircraft models. It features a clean, intuitive design with large, customizable display screens, an electronic flight bag, and a heads-up display that projects vital flight information onto the windshield, allowing for seamless integration of information and controls. Airbus takes a different approach with the A3 50, where the cockpit is designed with a futuristic vision, prioritizing ergonomic comfort and employing the latest in fly-by-wire technology. The A350's cockpit is characterized by its sidestick controllers and a suite of large LCD screens that present a comprehensive view of flight and system data, thereby reducing pilot workload and enhancing overall flight safety.

I’m a Boeing fan, but I have to admit, Airbus really nailed it with the wider cabin on the A350.

It's great to hear such balanced appreciation! The A350's wider cabin is definitely a strong point, offering more comfort and flexibility. Both Boeing and Airbus have their unique strengths, making them leaders in the aviation industry.

Both these planes will appeal in different ways. For some airlines A350 will be too much aircraft & will prefer the lower running costs of the smaller B787, as I suggest above they are not true direct ( although there may be some overlap ) competitors & this is backed-up by excellent sales & order books for both. B787 is offering terrific advantages to airlines over previous model aircraft in many aspects such as efficiency, emissions & comfort.

@@FLIGAVIA No objection to to the Dreamliner at all, just a preference for the A350 - for me the quietness is critical for getting to sleep on a long journey (typically between Europe and Asia). In that respect, the A380 is better than both by a long way.

As an Economy Traveller, I have flown in both the Dreamliner and Airbus A350 (& btw, A380) and having flown several times with both, in approximately the same locations towards the rear of each aircraft, my perception is the A350 is more comfortable (but that may be due to Airline specifics) but the A350 has less wind noise at cruise altitude compared to the Dreamliner. To prove a point for myself, I measured the cabin noise in both cases using a NIOSH Sound Level Meter App on my iPhone which confirmed my perception that the A350 is the quieter of the two aircraft. Cheers!

Unfortunately for Boeing, now that some routes now need to avoid Russian airspace, the 787s reduced range has become an issue. Some airlines are now having to choose the A350 over the 787.

The A350 has a conventional computerized architecture with one computer for each system (hydraulic, pressurization…)like the A320 or the B777. The B787 has a complete new architecture with 2 powerful core computers having two channels each one and receiving datas from every system (with its own software card).
For that, the B787 is one step ahead. Concerning workload, in case of abnormal situation, on the Boeing, there is no cascade of failures coming up on the EICAS like the Airbus

But i have flown with United’s 787-9 twice from Athens to Newark and back to Athens and according to my view is the best aircraft ever. Boeing did such a great job when designed the Dreamliner pushing Airbus to make its rival response.

Boeing has a different cockpit design for every line, while Airbus keeps it consistent across all aircraft models. This means that as an A330 pilot it's significantly easier to get qualification for the A350 then swapping between Boeing planes, or between brands. With the side sticks in the Airbus cockpit you have more personal space too.

Never flown an A350 but like the Boeing family of jets. Really like the 787-9 for long haul, very comfortable. My understanding of the shorter range on the 787-10 is that it need different wings / engines which kind of defeats Boeings uniformity between the models? 11:08

Yes. For example on routes from Europe to South America, South Africa and especially Asia, since Russia closed the airspace at the start of the Ukraine war, which lead to up to 1000nm longer routes.

I don’t have utter truth about the statement, but Prosody; the intonation is not real, the lapse between word and word, there’re regular unnatural lapses. It’s not a pejorative comment just a feeling. But I real think that voice is artificial. I am not a bot. I’ ve listened a lot CHATGPT and there’re certain common patterns.

@@cesarchoya6961 I agree with you, for instance it pronounces mach as match not mark and its annoying how it keeps calling the A350 as the A350 XWB which was the name Airbus called it on initially proposing it.
It is now just called the A350.Together with the cutting and pasting audio it really is not worth listening to.

The Dreamliner is a good plane. But Boeing put a very aggressive pricing tag in the first years. Then shit happened. With repetitive quality issues. And until now, despite very impressive high sales, the B787 is not yet profitable. While the A350 will make profit from this year.

FLIG AVIA's use of this really cheap and cheesy "robo voice" (computer generated) tells us that FLIG does not respect its viewers. Using an AI voice instead of a human narrator is like showing a middle finger to viewers. That is a shame, because the content here is really great. But it is very painful and maddening to listen to this video.
