Listen to this poem by Max Ehrmann. It’s meaningful to me and I think it could mean something to you too. It’s called Desiderata and it’s a simple message about life, mindfulness and gratitude. It inspired me to compose “Strive to be Happy”, which is the last line of the poem. The person reading the poem is also important to me. Aaron Staebell, thank you for introducing me to these words so many years ago and for reading them alongside my music. The poetry rings so true with your voice and presence. Poem by Max Ehrmann (1927). Read by Aaron Staebell. Strive to be Happy marimba solo by me. Live at PASIC 2018.
Gosh. It's such an injustice that this only has 3.5k views over a year after it was posted here. Every time I feel down and need to try to re-center I come listen to this. This is one of the most gorgeous solo's and pieces of poetry I have ever heard. Thank you so much for this.
Everytime I get my hands on a marimba and some mallets, I play this piece. I can and will never get tired of this piece and the poem. I absolutely love it so much. At this point gotta re-learn it cause it's been a while haha, but I look forward to when I can play it again.
Listening to this live was probably the highlight of all of the times I have gone to PASIC
