Dom, I'm part Irish, I have the same feeling when I hear Irish music. I was fortunate enough to visit Ireland with my mom who is half Irish and half Scottish, we may still have distance relatives there. Sounds silly but I felt like I was home there. The hardest thing I did was get on the plane and come back to the US. We spent our last 2 nights there in Dublin and it was a short walk to the pubs. Life was good, even met a father and son from the same city I live in there. Very glad that my mom got to go, very very sad to have to leave. You will always have my feels Dom. 🌹

After a hit you in the feels song like While Your Lips are Still Red, you almost have to follow it up with a feel good song like Elan. Troy's Irish Low Whistle ,and later tin whistle, definitely add to that feel. This is a Floor recorded song, from the Endless Forms Most Beautiful Album of 2015. Next at Wembley, another EFMB song "Weak Fantasy"

This world tour is their first with songs written to Floor's incredible voice and powers - and she has 'formed' the older songs also, into pure Floor versions. And nobody can express emotions like Floor - but you already know 😏

To me, this song is has a double meaning. Élan means joy or enthusiasm. The song is basically saying, almost what you say in your closing, to be happy, no matter what life throws at you, find that spark of joy and meet it with a smile. Also, I'm so happy you like this song, it's one of my all time favorites from Nightwish. When it breaks into the chorus, I get chills every damn time! It's like being carried away into a fairy tale.
Fun coincidence I doubt Tuomas even thought about is "elän" in finnish means "I live" and since the song and album in general is a celebration of life I think is cool :). Before I knew what Élan meant I thought that was the meaning.
I am so glad that you are finally beginning to enjoy the influence that Troy is having on the band's musical direction. Knowing of your Gallic roots, I was disappointed that you didn't react to 'My Walden' the way I thought you might. Troy' use of the Uilleann pipe always takes me to Skye or Glencoe where my wife and I enjoyed our honeymoon, and I thought that you may have been similarly touched. At the time you said that you missed the harder edge of the Wacken concert, but while both Floor and Troy were present, they had not yet joined the band, and the concert consisted of music written with either Tarja or Anette as lead singers. Now two years later, not only are they both full-time members, but have had an influence on the song writing during the 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful' sessions. It never occurred to me that you would do less than your best for anyone. Due to my own issues I avoid slower and sadder songs. But you are my favorite channel so to share that experience I watch those songs too.

It's not my favourite song from the album but it's still a great tune, especially in this live version. Others have commented on this already but Alpenglow is another fantastic, uplifting song from this show (and it was the one that brought me back to Nightwish after a decade or so of not paying them much attention). There are two reasons why they sound different. First of all Wacken is a metal festival so slightly different audience. Second they were promoting their (at the time) new album Endless Forms Most Beautiful which also has a different sound than the previous album.

So much to say about this one. Let's start with concerts... My favourite of the officially recorded concerts is Buenos Aires 2018 and if you think Wembley has diversity,vwell just wait till you get to BA. Wembley though, is probably my second favourite. For performances of this, BA takes 1st place, though this one is excellent. The music video is also worth watching (more on this below). Favourite things in this song? Marcos harmony. For me it defines this song and it is what I anticipate every time I hear it. Lyrics: Only Tuomas' can write "sedulous mice" into a song. And the lines "building a sandcastle close to the shore, a house of cards from a worn out deck" is worth thinking about. It's one of those deep lyrics that looks superficially simple. As to the music video, here are comments from the band and production team: "Oh, while I live to be the ruler of life, not a slave To meet life as a powerful conqueror, and nothing exterior to me will ever take command of me" WALT WHITMAN This inspiring quote by Uncle Walt was the starting point for "Elan". The song is all about the meaning of life nothing more, nothing less - something that is different and unique to us all; about cliffs unjumped, paths less travelled. "Élan" is an apt teaser for the forthcoming album without actually revealing anything about its true nature. NIGHTWISH PRESS RELEASE, DECEMBER 8, 2014 VILLE LIPIÄINEN: We originally planned to shoot a video for "Edema Ruh", but the decision to do "Élan" instead was made almost on the fly. One thing led to another, things got out of hand, and in the end, "Élan" became quite of an epic. It's a homage to classic Finnish actors, old, abandoned places that once were full of life, and the miracle and uniqueness of life. The idea was to choose a legendary Finnish actor or actress to accompany each Nightwish member in six different locations around Finland. Finally, the band were also shot against green screen, so all in all, there were a total of twelve shooting days. I think that's the Finnish record what comes to making a music video. At some point, I got the idea to get an owl for the video - the owl had been the Nightwish emblem ever since "The Sacrament of Wilderness" single in 1998, after all - so without further ado, we casted an owl called Urho who lives in the Ähtäri zoo. We built a green screen for him in a local school gym, where his wrangler and a vet were co-directing our star. I wanted to have footage of Utho flying majestically across the skies, but Urho turned out to be a bit of a rock star. He paid no attention to our coaxing and food offers and flew only when he felt like flying. I kept the cameras running pretty much the whole time, and in the end, we had hours and hours of material of Urho scowling, shaking his head at us, and looking totally pissed off. After two days, we finally managed to get a shot we wanted, and those seconds became the flying scene on the video. Oh, how we rejoiced, when Urho finally raised his wings and took off!

Nightwish is definitely a 'drop off your cares and worries at the concert gates' kind of band. So glad you picked me/us/everyone for the emotions. If we can't support each other, then we let our sisters and brothers fall. It's not a 'nationality family' out here on the metal net; it's a linking of arms to support good tunes, good times, and for those who can express our love for music in terms-more-eloquent than the rest of us. Dominque, you are suh a sweet and loving soul, I wish you nothing but good things. Nightwish can certainly lift one's spirits, even when the song is sad, their music touches one's best part. Stay strong, and know we all support you and want the best! May I suggest listening to AURI ... it is two thirds Nightwish (Tuomas and Troy) and Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas's wife, who is an incredible singer. They will take you to the land of Fey, and although they are not "metal" they have their roots there. Also - Johanna also sings in a band called "Eye of Melian" which is similar to AURI, and based on Tolkien's writings. Both are relaxing and gentle. Both bands often send me to the Land of Nod on restless nights. Blessings to you.

Lyrics: Only Tuomas' can write "sedulous mice" into a song.
And the lines "building a sandcastle close to the shore, a house of cards from a worn out deck" is worth thinking about. It's one of those deep lyrics that looks superficially simple.

VILLE LIPIÄINEN: We originally planned to shoot a video for "Edema Ruh", but the decision to do "Élan" instead was made almost on the fly. One thing led to another, things got out of hand, and in the end, "Élan" became quite of an epic. It's a homage to classic Finnish actors, old, abandoned places that once were full of life, and the miracle and uniqueness of life.
The idea was to choose a legendary Finnish actor or actress to accompany each Nightwish member in six different locations around Finland. Finally, the band were also shot against green screen, so all in all, there were a total of twelve shooting days. I think
that's the Finnish record what comes to making a music video.
At some point, I got the idea to get an owl for
the video - the owl had been the Nightwish emblem ever since "The Sacrament of Wilderness" single in 1998, after all - so without further ado, we casted an owl called Urho who lives in the Ähtäri zoo. We built a green screen for him in a local school gym, where his wrangler and a vet were co-directing our star. I wanted to have footage of Utho flying majestically across the skies, but Urho turned out to be a bit of a rock star. He paid no attention to our coaxing and food offers and flew only when he felt like flying. I
kept the cameras running pretty much the whole time, and in the end, we had hours and hours of material of Urho scowling, shaking his head at us, and looking totally pissed off. After two days, we finally managed to get a shot we wanted, and those seconds became the flying scene on the video.
Oh, how we rejoiced, when Urho finally raised his wings and took off!

Dominque, you are suh a sweet and loving soul, I wish you nothing but good things. Nightwish can certainly lift one's spirits, even when the song is sad, their music touches one's best part. Stay strong, and know we all support you and want the best! May I suggest listening to AURI ... it is two thirds Nightwish (Tuomas and Troy) and Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas's wife, who is an incredible singer. They will take you to the land of Fey, and although they are not "metal" they have their roots there. Also - Johanna also sings in a band called "Eye of Melian" which is similar to AURI, and based on Tolkien's writings. Both are relaxing and gentle. Both bands often send me to the Land of Nod on restless nights. Blessings to you.
