Fantastic reaction! One reason why it was off the setlist for so long was that Anette couldn't sing it, and another is that they have a pretty huge catalog, so a lot of great songs are going to be left off the setlist. Emppu has called this a favorite of his, because he has room to improvise, so it's great that you recognized his performance here. And yes, you absolutely need to do "The Greatest Show on Earth" from this concert!
Floor is the most versatile singer on the planet . This was a Tarja song and Annette was unable to sing it that's why it was off there playlist until Floor took over in 2012.
This whole concert is a gem, it shows Floor's wide vocal range and the guys' endless stamina. I love how Floor teases the crowd before the song starts, taking us straight to the stratosphere. And in my opinion the only thing that stands out in Wembley's version of TGSOE is the presence of Mr. Dawkins, here the instrumental parts and visuals way much better, and Floor's cadence isn't monotone/robotic. PS: I'm gonna sound so mean but! Anette was not good live lol sorry! Her voice changed a lot over the years, on her solo career, with Nightwish tho, big hit and miss.
This is an old Tarja-era song from album "Oceanborn". Anette wasn't able to sing it right. The whole album is full of masterpieces like this. To the question: There isn't bad Nightwish song. Love your Nightwish journey. Stick on it. Greetings from Nightwish Army Finland.
From the 2nd album Oceanborn, It hadn't been played since before the split with Tarja. Operatic vocals aren't Anette's forte, so it was one of the songs that got put away. They brought it back, not only because Floor can sing it, but it fit in with the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album themes of science and reason. When you do get to The Greatest Show On Earth here at Tampere, please watch all the way through the credits to the very end of the video.
And turn on the subtitles. Otherwise it will be possible that you miss words. By the way, have your dictionary ready (or Wikipedia) - I had to look for some of the words I didn't know (e.g. Goldilock's Zone and LUCA). Terms like "God of gaps" and "Ratkind" are Dawkins' concepts (the title of the song is also the title of a book written by Dawkins).
How would anyone NOT like this? I hate to be a snob. But sometimes a reviewing past means moving forward!!!! Wouldn't ya agree? This is pure musicality for me anyway. Have a good glass of wine and sit back. This is lovely. Thank you and love the reaction! Thanks for the entertainment and bringing this music forward!!! 🍻🍻🍻🍻🤟👏
Yeah, finding a Nightwish song that isn't brilliant is far more difficult than it sounds. You have to remember that the foundation of Nightwish is Toumas Holopainen. His compositions are influenced by many things, and several other artists, but he is creative in ways that are rare and wonderful. He has surrounded himself with virtuosos who understand how to bring his compositions to life. Emppu is the only other original member, and his genius of tone is vital to the sound, as much as Tuomas' keyboards. Since he is so humble, he doesn't suck the attention off the stage when he plays, but he's capable of doing so. I say it again and again, their true super power is love ... for each other and for the music. The Army understands this and adds to that love. I've been to one show here is the Los Angeles area and the atmosphere was differrent than any show I've attended since I started going to concerts in 1970, so there's a huge comparison model. My statement following the show ... "Now I can die gratefully." Another excellent and fun reaction, Dom.
Love your reaction 🤘 Nice to have you back on the NW track. There is a very good documentary about Floor you could react to “Floor Jansen Reunion “, there she talks about how she ended up in NW and also the time before.
If this was your first reaction to a song from Tampere, you haven't done one of my all time favorite songs / performances: "Weak Fantasy" I am sure you're going to love it as well.
old song written when Tarja was the vocal, a lot of the vocal parts are a lot more operatic than the more modern songs from NW. Dont agree that Tampere is the better GSoE version, Troy and the ebow in the early parts, Richard dawkins at the end... anyway, sure you will love both versions.
Rambling Dom, I love your reaction! I also love the Wembley version because when the slow down happens, Marco whistles with the orchestra as it ramps back up. If you ever decide to try out merch, a Rambling Dom t-shirt would be a great place to start. :)
Lady You Rock, I cannot wait for your review of the TGSOE, Live at Tampere, and I said below, Annete Olson could not sing that song, so that is why, it was off the set list, for so long. I Love your style and your show. There s no such thing as a Bad Nightwish Song they are ALL Amazing Songs, By Tuomas The Metal Mozart, Thank You so much.
Thank You for reacting to this specific song! It doesn't get the attention it deserves. And yes, Tampere is the best "Show on Earth". As a Nightwish fan, I also appreciate other rock bands too. I see in your reviews that you have dabbled with Electric Callboy and BabyMetal. If you're feeling adventurous, try Automatic Sun by The Warning (Tecate Pa’l Norte Festival - Studio Version). It's a band of three young (ages 19-24) sisters from Mexico that have been together for ten years as a group and they're making some waves.
There seems to be a very big overlap of Nightwish and The Warning fans. Me included. Both bands are giant talents. Pau, the drummer, is the main songwriter and all come from a classical piano background ( Like Tuomas). Their compositional approach is More chamber music rock, than Symphonic, but give them time, one of them isn't even in her 20's yet. If Dany had classical vocal training, I am guessing Floor may have a successor. Like Toumas, despite English being their second language, their lyrics are often amazing poetry.
Great reaction! Tarja era song that had been off the setlist for along time because Anette couldn't sing in this style. Stargazers was added to the setlist for the Endless Forms Most beautiful tour as part of a deal between Floor and Tuomas. Floor wanted to add Sleeping Sun to the setlist (you have reacted to the Masters of Rock performance) since it was one of her favorite Nightwish songs. I am guessing it is not one of Tuomas's favorites since he was forced by their then German record label to write it for the total solar eclipse in Europe. He agreed to add Sleeping Sun but in return he got to add Stargazers to the setlist. Personally I prefer the Tampere performance of The Greatest Show on Earth. I think it is just more epic with the outdoor stage, fireworks, Floor's outfit which you see here, and Troy's Irish Low Whistle instead of his E-Bow. Plus Tampere is like homefield for Nightwish and they always bring way more energy to the shows there. Plus Floor's parents were present at this concert so even more energy from her. I won't go so far as to say Tampere is the best. Both Wembley and Tampere are fantastic but my personal preference is definitely Tampere.
This was literally the first Nightwish song that I ever heard. Track one of Oceanborn, the first album that they released in the states. I bought it in '98 because I liked the cover, and I could live a bit more of your ramblings 😁
The same concert Floor's growling like an angry bear. Some fans will say Tarja was so much more educated and better singing those classical vocals. And some even find Nightwish stopped to exist when she left. But Tarja can't sing everything, like Floor does.
Tbh the wembley version of The Greatest Show On Earth has the best audiovisual experience. The tampere version is worth watching too but why people mostly rave about it is because the people are Finnish. Im a Finn too but im also a realist. 😅 Love your enthusiasm and welcome as a full time member of the warm and fuzzy nightwish army. ❤ Nightwish army Turku Finland.
@@PlacidDragon Yeah fireworks are awesome. But fireworks are just fireworks and not really related to the performance per se. In my opinion Richard Dawkins words just elevate the ending of the performance so much.
I agree, the Wembley version of TGSOE is in my opinion by far the better one and Richard Dawkins is a true bonus. The fireworks in the Tampere version I find very distracting (in fact I find the Tampere concert the least enjoyable concert of all, still good but not on the same level as Buenos Aires, Wembley and Wacken 2013). But best thing is to see them all and decide for yourself 😊
Yes, well done ( I like this song.. like almost all NW-Songs; one is not bad bad not my taste; most love this song and I am glad that NW has for EVERONE a "best-one") .. and do FULL Tampere (even if you heard some songs.. do it again), all versions are a litte diff.; I have multiple Versions on my Playlist and love all 😉 Greetings from NW-Army-Germany and SabatonFan
This song in the Wembley version is also great, and there is no better TGSON version, they are slightly different, that's all. Floor is dressed as the goddess Gaia, dna strings on her dress (in the colours of the Finnish flag) and with very high heels to make her look even more like a goddess. A very young Tuomas wrote this song and it was released as the first song on the Oceanborn album in 1998. The lyrics are showing that he was at that age already interested in the universe, earth evolution and us. And that was probably the reason it was added to the setlist of this tour: the subject fits the last 2 albums of the band (and the third album that will be released in September). Tragedienne of heavens is the earth (as it is full of tragedies, evolution being the biggest non stop tragedy) Watching the eyes of the night (the stars) Sailing the virgin oceans (earth sailing through empty space) A Planetride for Mother and Child (earth and moon) the star born: the planets Tuomas knows something about the history of astronomy: "Following the pages of Almagest" (Wikipedia :-) The Almagest is a 2nd-century Greek-language mathematical and astronomical treatise on the apparent motions of the stars and planetary paths, written by Claudius Ptolemy (c. AD 100 - c. 170). One of the most influential scientific texts in history. There is a version of this song with the original bass player Sami playing on stage while Marko is descending to the audience to see from below what it's like up there. Yep. Floor sings, what She wants! Tarja could, but Anette... ...Emppu´s guitar so fine. Just what is needed, nothing more, nothing less. Well Kai is called a Human Metronome! Do I have tell more😃Emppu is one of the worlds most underrated guitarists!!!
I think there's almost nothing that Floor can"t sing. BTW only Tarja and Floor are able to sing these kind of songs, for they have the skills. Thanks again, Dom.. have a nice Weekend.
Love Stargazer's, classic track. Brilliant reaction and happy to see back on nightwish. I would love it if you checked out their cover/tribute of pink flloyds High Hopes. Marco's vocal's are just amazing, God level vocals! also Jukka ace's the drums in it, even though you can clearly tell he is suffering badly with his insomnia, he just powers through the song. Its one of the few covers i would say is better than the original.
I disagree that TGSOE is best at Tampere. Wembley and Tampere are quite different in several ways, not all about showmanship. It is definitely worth doing both. BTW you will find keyboard riffs coming up in Stargazers and other songs - Tuomas obviously liked that riff as well as using it the way he uses lyrics -quoting bits of one song in another to give fans a sort of common grounding between songs. Also, please do Weak Fantasy from Tampere.. Here is a little Emppu quote: "The solo in "Shudder" was a nice surprise and something I had great fun doing in the studio. It's also fun live. I'm always ecxcited about parts where there's room for improvisation - "Stargazers" for example, is a great live song that enables you to really shred." Oh and BTW, there is a song Tuomas doesn't like, called Nymphomaniac Fantasia.
Dom, have you thought about going back to the start with Nightwish? And doing the albums... Angels Fall First from 1997 was the first, then Oceanborne in 1998... will really give you a sense of the journey NW went on musically from that first album. Will be some songs you know in there, but most will be new.
My least favourite Nightwish song is Scaretale and probably the Carpenter( sung by Tuomas himself, the later live version with Troy singing is oke) , but must admit I don’t know a lot of the older songs because I personally don’t like Tarja’s voice/ singing style (don’t shoot me it’s just personal preference) and so I don’t listen to the older albums. To be honest it took me a long while before I put the ‘Floor, but Wembley’ version on my playlist but it has grown on me and now I like it a lot.
Love the rambling - never stop! This is Floor singing in Tarja's wheelhouse, and she does a great job (not better but comparable). _TGSoE_ here isn't necessarily better IMO, but is different enough to warrant a separate reaction - definitely better visuals, slightly worse sound quality, different arrangement for some parts. As for "bad" NW, if you really want, try _Once_ _Upon_ _a_ _Troubadour_ from the first album, which is still a good song but Tuomas' singing is, um, a thing.
Great reaction as usual 🤘 And obviously Floor is an Goddess but as you mention every single little bit working perfectly in this Nightwish machine Starting from lyrics and finishing at every single person involved with the show. Definitely The Greatest Show on Earth here is totally different experience compare to Wembley U gonna enjoy the ride 👍🤘 Take care and can't wait for more 🤘❣
My least favourite song of theirs is Where were you last night? 😁It's still good though. Just not my kind of topic in a song. 😎Cool reaction, it got you deeply 💪🏼
I like your "ramblings;" at least you are thoughtful. Much preferable to the thoughtlessness which is so easily found. The reverberations is a good observation. I've felt the reverberations and the post-show high longer after a Nightwish show than with any other band I've seen. And that's a lot. As for bad Nightwish songs, the folder is empty. There are maybe three tracks I don't like, across all their albums, but I have noticed each of those have fans somewhere and I could not say those are objectively bad songs anyway. 🔥🤘🔥
@Metal Muse: It is a song of the Tarja era. And Annett wasn't able to sing an operatic style. 😂 And NOW you have to correct a big failure - you really really must react to Lovebites and Band Maid please. Trust me. Like NW & Epica they will change your music life again. 🤩For Lovebites I will recommend "Holy War" Tokyo live. For Band Maid "Hate" official live. And yes - it doesn't matter. You won't find any bad song of them, too. But both band are also a must see live. 🤪And you only have done one Babymetal song - "Gimme Chocolate" 😪. Try "Road of Reststance" Live 2023. And you will get an idea why everybody loved the coop with EC. BM are epic. 🥳
Hi @themetalmuse I'm a new fan of yours and I have been loving your reaction videos for a while now. :) I have a little request if possible, could you react to Parkway Drive - Karma? Please? It's my favourite metal song ever!
You have to check this one out when Floor sings opera for real, if you haven't already. ruclips.net/video/Od_qcbw3f5Q/видео.html&ab_channel=LLSPhotography
Tarja's version of this song is incredible. I think its even better than this one. Fro another great singer, listen to Dianne van Giersbergen. She is the former singer of Xandria and is spectacular. Listen to her song, Unleash the Siren to start.
Authenticity is a strange thing whether you like it or not. In my home country, they tell you directly either to like it or not, which is permissible. An old classic and you liked it. Thanks again (also listen to Tarja Turunen's version of this same song at your own time)
There is no bad Nightwish song but I'm not the biggest fan of Amaranth, Bye Bye Beautiful and Master Passion Greed. Ok, probably also because this kind of attitude doesn't look good on Nightwish... or Tuomas for that matter. And having Anette sing in Bye Bye Beautiful was kinda unfair to her. I know they didn't make her sing the chorus but still... And I love the music in Master Passion Greed but the lyrics - there are two sides to every story.
The reaction by the two ladies holding hands in anticipation is priceless. As long as floor is the lead, she kills every version of every song Nightwish performed with their two previous singers, so picking the "worst" is quite difficult. But if I had to choose, it would be a Marko only vocal lead without Floor.
"The Wembley version is the best" is just BS. Yes for some. And some prefer Wembley. It´s 50/50. I truly hate when some people "Speak" for everyone else.
The Best Female Voice In The World Wonderful On Stage In The Best Band In The World Nightwish

To be honest it took me a long while before I put the ‘Floor, but Wembley’ version on my playlist but it has grown on me and now I like it a lot.
You should react to "Energise me". After forever song writen by Floor. It will blow your mind.
Ohhhh ok thanks 🙏
Love the rambling - never stop! This is Floor singing in Tarja's wheelhouse, and she does a great job (not better but comparable). _TGSoE_ here isn't necessarily better IMO, but is different enough to warrant a separate reaction - definitely better visuals, slightly worse sound quality, different arrangement for some parts. As for "bad" NW, if you really want, try _Once_ _Upon_ _a_ _Troubadour_ from the first album, which is still a good song but Tuomas' singing is, um, a thing.

this song is in my playlist for more than 15 years) with Tarja, check it out)
❤️❤️❤️
Great reaction as usual 🤘
And obviously Floor is an Goddess but as you mention every single little bit working perfectly in this Nightwish machine
Starting from lyrics and finishing at every single person involved with the show.
Definitely The Greatest Show on Earth here is totally different experience compare to Wembley
U gonna enjoy the ride 👍🤘
Take care and can't wait for more 🤘❣
Thanks!
Have you watched Getsemane? From the Decades tour in Argentina. Another superb song.
My least favourite song of theirs is Where were you last night? 😁It's still good though. Just not my kind of topic in a song. 😎Cool reaction, it got you deeply 💪🏼
🤘❤️🤘❤️ thanks for the suggestion
Thank you for your reaction. Wonderful song. Greetings from nwAse Sweden
And Rattatttaatata
Hi @themetalmuse I'm a new fan of yours and I have been loving your reaction videos for a while now. :)
I have a little request if possible, could you react to Parkway Drive - Karma? Please? It's my favourite metal song ever!

Audio vol 🔛🔝🔊, ty
imho Wembley version is much more amazing, but Tempere version is still Nightwish and it is amazing
I’ll check it out
🤘🇫🇮👍😎🎆
They had opera singer who could do this song, they now have Floor who could do it, between them was a singer who really couldn't.
👍
You have to check this one out when Floor sings opera for real, if you haven't already.

Tarja's version of this song is incredible. I think its even better than this one.
Fro another great singer, listen to Dianne van Giersbergen. She is the former singer of Xandria and is spectacular. Listen to her song, Unleash the Siren to start.
I’ll have to listen to it. ❤️
Authenticity is a strange thing whether you like it or not. In my home country, they tell you directly either to like it or not, which is permissible. An old classic and you liked it. Thanks again (also listen to Tarja Turunen's version of this same song at your own time)
Kinda hard to find a bad NW song, Anette's era might be less better but then again depends on the song.

I'd say the 2022 NYC version is best, because that's the one I saw live! I WAS THERE!
@craigbolton5093 that's what I mean. We all think differently so I don't like when some speak for us all
my least favorite Nightwish song is "Bye Bye Beatiful" sung by Anette
Alright challenge accepted
0:40 it's not
Bad NW song? Sorry no can do 😂
Here we have our muse again. How are your cats?
Pair of little trouble monkeys 🙈
