    Our second channel
    @mythvisionTV
We explore the fascinating connections between the creation myth in Genesis 1 and the Enuma Elish, an ancient Babylonian epic. Discover how Marduk's triumph over Tiamat and the subsequent creation of the cosmos resonate in the biblical narrative.
But that's not all! We delve into the intriguing contrasts between Genesis 1 and Genesis 2, focusing on the different orders of creation. This discrepancy has led scholars to propose multiple authors, with Genesis 2 potentially predating Genesis 1. We'll also showcase the presence of Akkadian cognates in Genesis, revealing possible literary dependence and shedding light on the fascinating interplay of ancient texts.
The mythical Garden of Eden in Genesis holds a special place in our discussion. Join us as we explore its origins in ancient Mesopotamia and uncover the potential sources that influenced the biblical scribe. We'll unravel the connections between the creation of humankind in Genesis and its older Mesopotamian counterparts, shedding light on the mythical figure of Adam.
And of course, we can't miss the intriguing tale of Eve's creation from Adam's rib. We'll trace this motif back to the older Sumerian myths and discover the echoes that resonate between these ancient narratives.
To wrap up our exploration, we'll tackle the theme of lost immortality. Drawing from the renowned Epic of Gilgamesh and the myth of Adappa & the South Wind, we'll unveil the significant role these myths play in the biblical creation stories.

You are getting contaminated by an incorrect modern translation of Genesis 1:1 that no honest Hebrew scholar would support, and this is causing you to fall into a type of circular reasoning that "proves" something by removing the evidence to the contrary, which is the fact that there is necessarily a period of growth after the creation of the earth and before the darkness that later came over the earth, which period is implied in the verb barah (he created), and this is something any scholar shouid know if they know anything about the Hebrew language, but unfortunately there are many wannabe scholars who do not understand a word of Hebrew and hence completely miss the point.
In fact, this new translation of 1:1 is so incorrect and has been so often proven to be incorrect that I cannot continue listening to this nonsense after 10 minutes into the video. Sorry, Derek, but this is beginning to be a very shallow and tendencious type of analysis you are bringing forward here. I hope for you that you investigate a bit more and that you try a bit harder on the intellectual honesty, for which you may have to learn Hebrew.

I am very much a Christian but I am also intellectual and I don't mind having some of the doctrine I was taught challenged. Personally if I read the bible differently it helps me to reconcile some of my previous issues and questions I had with God.

The Pentateuch is the story Israelites used to explain who they are as a people. Borrowing themes, plots, etc. doesn't necessarily debunk the bible for me, as some feel like it does. When you read the first five book of the bible, gotta imagine an elder explaining to some kids their story. You have to know the writing was done centuries of years later from when the "events occurred". I love this kind of stuff.

Therefore, the King James Bible narrative may be correct that the solid material we call Earth along with Water did NOT need to be created because it already existed?

I am enjoying your channel. As a Muslim, it affects me too. Because the 3 religions - Judaism, Christianity & Islam- are from same bunch, the Abrahamic bunch. They share same stories, same prophets, same figures like Adam (Adam), Noah, (Nuh) Jesus (Isa), Moses (Musa), Enoch (Idris), Abel (Habil), Cain (Qabil), the Great Flood etc. If Bible plagiarizes from Anunnaki, then Quran too, because Quran shares Jewish and Christian tradition at some levels. If God of Christianity & Yahweh of Judaism are actually plagiarized versions of Sumerian gods Enki, Enlil etc, then the Muslim god of Allah too. First verse in Quran says, "Read!", implying that a Muslim must always read and seek truth, so I am reading & I am seeking truth. Many Muslim readers entering this channel will be upset with this comment of mine, may even accuse me of blasphemy. But that is OK..

The "Noah" character wasn't even called Utanapishtim at first. The earliest version was known as Ziusudra in the Ur III versions of the Sumerian Kings list, then he came to be known as Atrahasis in the Epic of Atrahasis, then Utnapishtim in the Epic of Gilgamesh, then Noah in the Bible. All versons except Noah were specified as the Kings of the city of Shuruppak (incidentally a real place). Atrahasis may have inspired the Canaanite Kothar-wa-Khasis, who likely in turn inspired the Islamic Al-Khidr.

You need to take into account that Apsu and Tiamat gave birth to the Annunaki god's and they could not actually be killed. Enki and brother Enlil with their father Anu had them removed. Being the offspring they decided to leave their designed purpose and then became the Anakim or Fallen Angels. God's could not be killed, although it is reputed that Marduk killed Tiamat and Apsu. No matter how you try to justify these Fallen Angels they broke rank with Prime Creator and decided their own path, which was to hijack humanity. They knew humanity was to be designed and created to become as it says, "the crown of God's creation" that of Prime creator! Yes! Then they hatched their plan, whatever followed you can see, they were determined to enslave the human because they knew that eventually they would become subject to the human, for as Jeshua details through John, "we are also god's"!

All religions on earth are based on the Annunaki god's who are really fallen angels, even the so-called Elohim of the Jewish faith, they stem from Anu and his sons Enki and Enlil ( Jahweh) The true God, Prime Creator didn't start a religion or establish a church, it's all man made, Prime Creator expostulated the "Law of One".

Another channel I follow on here had a recent vid about the origin of Yahweh.
As most already know the ancient Jews were polytheistic. Worshiping El, Ba'al, Yahweh and others.
During the henotheistic period they combined Yahweh and Ba'al (in his Hadad Canaanite form) since they were both storm gods of similar types. One being the mountain storm god, the other the coastal storm god.
Then later they rolled El together with Jahweh/Ba'al. And eliminated references to worship of the other gods, as well as adding in all the admonitions to not worship other gods, golden calves or Ahserah poles.
Of course these changes were made before publishing was a thing. There were just manuscripts that got copied.
So they weren't working very hard to hide their changes. So El Shaddai shows up. Asherah poles get mentioned etc.

Notice how the video clearly stated that the Bible didn’t copy from any one of the others, but that it looks like it took a little from each.
It is flawed thinking to assume that without accepting the possibility that the Bible could be an oral tradition that was written down later from which all the other stories actually disseminated to their current iteration.
It was actually the fact that the Bible coherently contained explanations and reasoning for all other religions that made me realize it was True.
It’s funny that what one person sees for verification someone else sees it exactly the other way as a reason not to believe. I have seen too many supernatural events to disbelieve now.

@@Michael_the_Servant "It was actually the fact that the Bible coherently contained explanations and reasoning for all other religions"
Allow me to laugh maniacally at the koolaidness of that statement until my lungs explode.
Not only is it NOT coherent, but it actually more than once covers much the same story twice because it is clearly at least 2 major cult traditions mashed together with only the most minimal of editing to give it even the same basic semblance of coherency.
In fact it's coherency is so terrible that modern scholars can literally disassemble the text to chart the shift from polytheistic Yahwism of the Israelites to the monotheistic Judaism that solidified after the Israelite elites returned from Babylon in the mid 1st millennium BCE.
Yes that's right! Israel was just as polytheistic as it's Canaanite neighbors until at least the mid 1st millennium BCE.
Also Israelite were Canaanites despite the repeated claims to the contrary in the bible - it just makes it easy to distract people from the fact that the Baal they try to blot out is basically Yahweh in almost every way by description, just as the Canaanite El matches the more fatherly prime deity figure in the bible.

We Christians probably want to call these other gods as fallen angels, but i don't think so, i believe that the God of the Bible is more like a ruler or king or prime minister of an entire race of gods. Even the word Elohim is plural and it actually means "powerful or shining ones".

Ergo there is a considerable possibility that Akkadian dominion left a permanent mark in both culture and language.

Yes. That's why you see Israelites constantly going back to worshipping other gods. They were formerly pagans. That's why when Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son, he didn't bat an eye because human sacrifice was a thing. God also hadnt revealed his name that much. He was the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob because it helped distinguished Him from other gods. When Israelites went to war, they believed there was a supernatural war between their God and their enemy's. They definitely believed in more than one divine/supernatural being.

Something I read by Desmond Tutu talks about other origin myths having corpses or coming after great battles between the gods, yet the Genesis account is packed with GOODNESS. Light, day and night, and it was good. The firmament of the heavens, and the lights to mark the seasons, and it was good. Dry land and sea, and it was good. The plants and vegetation of the ground, another day, and it was good. The birds and creatures of the sky, and it was good. All the beasts of earth, and human beings…and it was good.
Other origin stories have humanity springing from the blood of the dying god, or in one that I read, humans were parasites that fell off the body of a defeated goddess.
Genesis is unique (says Tutu) for the goodness in the story. It keeps me interested, hoping to find a way of thinking about the Bible.

Incredibly well done. The Old Testament incorporates many old stories from a vast array of sources. Many can be linked back to Mesopotamia, Sumeria, and Greek Mythology contributed in a BIG way.
Those accounts were often from even older accounts and cultures.
There Is One Thing To Bear In Mind::: The farther back you go, the closer to the truth you get.
From that day to this thousands of years have intercepted the stories and added or subtracted vital content because it did not fit the current thinking of the time so it was left out or altered and we are none the wiser because of it and we still do it. It's best we listen to the oldest stories to find our way back to the truth while we can.
Don't be so quick to pass off Greek Mythology as fantasy. It is incredibly factual and only seems like fantasy because we've distorted the truth to shy away from anything we do not understand or that frightens us.

These accusations of plagiarism, are not true. What makes you think these oldest Sumerian and whatever you call them are not taken from earlier sources we have no way to discover? Its all bunch of assumption.
Nothing in the bible is identical to greek, Egyptian and polytheistic beliefs..
We believe god revealed guidance through all ages and people corrupted it while part of it remained.. Its 1 thing to write something with ur own hand and invent it and put it in the bible and say its from god, its another thing to remember a verse passed down to you all the way from an actual messenger, or someone who had true authority and had revelation.
That's the reason why you wont' see me claim the bible is the word of god fully.
Polytheism and paganism human animal gods are just corruption of the truth, they are the real inventions who copied from monotheism. The Enuma Elish was much later and re-wrote Sumerian mythology to benefit Marduk, the god of Babylon that was then the capital of the Empire. The original myth can be found in the Sumerian Atrahasis epic. Putting too much importance on the Enuma Elish is misleading. We should use the Atrahasis epic instead, which in fact explains much better how the book of Genesis came into being. (Enlil (the air) separating Anu (the sky) from Ki (the Earth), just like described in genesis. It's pretty much what science confirms, the atmosphere (Enlil) separates space (Anu) from the surface of our planet (Ki). It's all actually quite trivial, but got overinterpreted too much).
Genesis1:1 is simply the headline of the following paragraph. It means that the following verses will describe how the gods (elohim is plural) created the world, as it is now.

The Bible doesn’t need to give credit to any ancient writings. What most people totally miss out on is oral tradition. Great work and awesome synthesis! I continue to love this style and enjoy every one of these videos. They are a nice counterpart to the interviews with scholars and experts.
One limitation of your content here is restricting the sources for Genesis to the Akkadian writings. Years ago, authors like Gary Greenberg were postulating Adam and Eve's story being a corruption of Egyptian myths (Geb & Nut and Osiris & Iris), and the hypothesis was that Genesis 1 was in response to Babylonian ideas while Genesis 2 was in response to Egyptian ideas. I'm not sure if this is a current or even widely held view today, but there is definitely a connection later on in Genesis with Egyptian culture and ideas.
Of course, this could all also stem from earlier cultural ideas that were simply adopted into Egypt and Babylon later on. Given that the idea of people coming from the ground or clay shows up in many cultures around the world, it might have been an ancient myth that originated as an oral tradition before it was ever written down. It might have also been an idea that was just so common in agricultural societies that it kept reoccurring independently because the height of civilization at the time was taming the ground from which life-sustaining plants would grow.
Keep up the great work! Can't wait for the next one!

@@michellecardenas6072 I appreciate your perspective, and I agree that personal perceptions vary. However, what I find concerning about the video is that it seems to intentionally manipulate perceptions, aligning with the very point I was making earlier. Interestingly, thinkers like Jacques Derrida, who have influenced modern thought, drew inspiration from Gnostic thinking.
Derrida's philosophical stance, in line with certain Gnostic ideas, challenges the notion of fixed truths and distinctions. Unfortunately, this can contribute to a climate where objective truth becomes elusive. The danger lies not just in diverse perceptions but in intentional efforts to blur lines, as it can lead to a generation grappling with uncertainties about fundamental aspects of identity, such as gender. It's crucial to consider the broader implications of philosophical influences and intentional manipulation on our understanding of reality.
