Have been following your progress for many years. You have now entered a whole new realm. I thought you did great in a non-specific aerobatic designed aircraft. This is where sports psychology come to the forefront of flying. Being able to go out for every flight with a pre-planned set of tasks and not wasting time flying around in a recreational sport la-de-lah mode of mine thinking should enable you to make measurable progress. What some non-aviation watchers might be surprised at is that your 'coach' is not in the aircraft with you but on the ground. Coaches have the experience and knowledge to know that you are off by 5 degrees, or too slow, too quick etc., it is as though they are in the aircraft with you, seeing every little control input. For non-aerobatic pilots it's like voodoo! For anyone doing competition aerobatic pilots it makes you a safer general aviation pilot. When you go back to a C172 or whatever GA aircraft you find that you 'feel' more about how the aircraft is flying and you are so much more 'ahead' of the aircraft you have significant extra mental capacity for other things that your safety margin increase exponentially. Even if a GA pilot does not want to go hardcore aerobatics the gains that are made through 'upset' training have a significant impact on your overall flying career that I would commend any pilot to take some form of aerobatic training. Hope you continue your aerobatic journey and progress to an all-out aerobatic monoplane (or biplane, perhaps!)
That's so cool that you took Luke for an aerobatic ride! I'm starting to get into young eagles with the EAA to share aviation with the next generation as any time I've taken a friend's child it has been super rewarding. It was also great to stop by and talk with you at Air Venture 2023. I love your videos and like I said in person you were part of the big inspiration that got me into training and flying. Keep on doing you, I think you're an inspiration for the right attitudes of self improvement with your introspective style. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
Man, that looks like so much fun. I liked being able to see your panel during that sequence. I know I'm a 4G pilot and it looks like you stayed under that plenty. Can't wait to see it again when you have it perfected-ish.
Great work.... practice practice practice! Holliday's are booked, and Raven and I will be at Steinbach in a week! (just to watch...not ready to compete yet, that's for sure!)
Steve, that is awesome. Love that episode. I'm totally excited for you. I recently did a series of akro lessons here in Florida. Need to find a plane to go practice in. If the FAA goes ahead with their proposed rule changes then a Pitts S2A is a possibility.
Congrats on your fortitude Steve - punishing stuff! Box design looks awesome - awesomely challenging and probably dome fairly high G's! You de man. Great video - looking fwd to the next. :)
I’ve been flying superD with great instructors but the first time flying with feedback from the ground with a coach was a completely new experience! Awsome work dude 3 flights in a day in the superD are haaard work can’t imagine doing that in a plane with no spades
Would it be possible/practical to disable some of those alerts/warnings when you've flipped "the fun switch"? Not so much to keep them from distracting you, but to avoid "normalizing" ignoring alerts/warnings. Just thinking out loud. Great video, as always!
Agreed that this is a good idea - I'll ask Garmin. The risk of normalizing is probably low because I am in SJUCH a different head space when flying aerobatics as opposed to normal operations though.
CHOP!!!! Don’t know if you remember me, but my name is Doug. I fly the Extra 300L and we met at OSH the past 2 years consecutively. Yo, I am glad to see you getting more into acro and diving into competitive acro!!! I will be heading out to Norway to fly acro and do youth outreach for a little while, but when I return, I hope to fly a few contest with you sometime. Take care, fly safe, and congratulations brother!!! 💪🏾
Watching this I'm wondering if I'll ever get into acro the way I originally intended. "Intense" is definitely the operative word. Love Aaron's mask... great vibe! When I heard "this Garmin's toast!" I laughed out loud. Sounded like your hammerhead count was slow; that's why you didn't reach four. I can't wait to talk OSH with you when we get a chance... maybe even in a few hours. Planning to fly in to Sarnia this morning for the COPA 7 show; hope to see you there!
Hey. You need to look on the wing for vertical downs as well. Looking down won’t assure veritical line ;) Also pull CB for that stall Warner, it’ll be less distracting, good luck.
Haha - thanks yeah, I’m working on looking in the right places at the right times - it is just really hard to not look forward while flying straight at the ground.
To roll left with your left arm, turn your hand over on the stick (thumb pointed down). You use different muscles that way. As for control forces, can you fly slower with all that power you've got?
I don't want to change hand positions mid figure, and no, I can't fly the sequence slower; I need the energy for the vertical lines - it is what it is in terms of the energy management.
Is there a way to turn off “Betty” in Traffic Alerts ??? ( maybe something if possible that can be linked to the fun switch ) Steve…. You are getting Funner to watch. Keep up the awesome content.
The twists, turns, and loops left me wondering if the laws of physics were on vacation. Next time, maybe Steve even teach the birds a thing or two about acrobatics! 🐿✈ Good work Steve
Yeah, that'd be a bad day to loose the keys while inverted. Good news is they are in there really good and what you see flopping around is a super light fuel pump dongle and embroidered keychain.
I totally considered that... but it was just too far off the map to implement. What I am thinking I will do is transition to flying right seat for acro.
I'm not super motivated to look into disabling it because there is so much going on at the time that I'm, not really noticing it. That said, It does bug me (and clearly you) in the videos later, so I'll see what I can do.
@@FlightChops oh it doesn’t bother me, just coming from one acro competitor to another I try to limit distractions. That being said I blast music so I have very little room to talk. Love the acro content keep it up!

I’m young Luke thanks flight chops
Well done! Looks like a blast hope you get to learn to do it yourself someday!
Congrats on your first acrobatic flight. Wishing you a lot more awesome first experiences.
Luke! You rocked it! So happy you had the chance to take the ride 😃
Luke, you looks so relaxed and I know you're going to be doing this one day! Keep Your Flight Chops Sharp!!

i wasn't prepared for the acro ability of the RV!

Glad you enjoyed it!
You had a great coach there. It proves feedback can be honest, clear, and positive. I think the RV-14 loved it as much as you did!
Well said!
You guys and the Harv’s crew should look into performing at the YXX airshow next year
Awesome !
I live in Algona! watched you guys play around!

Nice work. Very interesting.
Glad you liked it!
great job!!!

Thanks, will do!

Thanks so much!
Congrats, Steve!
Thanks! I'm getting there!
Welcome to Iowa! Hope you had some of our pork chops!
It was a fun visit - I had more fish than pork on that one though :P

Yeah - I love the RV-14 for the versatility, but it is definitely a compromise trying to fly the Sportsman sequence in it.
I did my first competition a few months ago,way to go,great content
congrats!
Dang! Pretty sure I'd last 10 seconds. Very cool FlightChops!

I am just starting aerobatics in France, great video. I would love to see more aerobatics in your futur videos !
More to come for sure!
I finally almost understand how to read an aerobatics card now.
I'll share more detail about what it all means in upcoming episodes that do more of a modular deep dive into the figures :)
Knowing your left and right into your up and downs. Getting your head level 😂 that looks like fun 😎
Haha - yup!

Flying it in R/c IMAC is fun….it’s my dream to do it on the full size!

Steve…. You are getting Funner to watch. Keep up the awesome content.
I am not sure I can selectively turn off the alerts... I need to look into that though.
And thanks for the friendly feedback!

Haha - glad you enjoyed it!
Your authentic videos are very inspiring. How do you edit your video together? What software do you use?
Thanks - I use FCPX
Are you in Steinbach next weekend?
I will be there, yes
I worry about those keys turning during those maneuvers. At times they are moving around pretty good. That would make for an exciting exit to a roll.
Yeah, that'd be a bad day to loose the keys while inverted.
Good news is they are in there really good and what you see flopping around is a super light fuel pump dongle and embroidered keychain.
awesome job! I wish I had done more than loops and rolls.
Just wondering if you've ever considered installing a left side throttle. Would love if this was a Vans option for the 7 and 14
I totally considered that... but it was just too far off the map to implement.
What I am thinking I will do is transition to flying right seat for acro.
@@FlightChops Maybe a good project to work with Vans on :)
Dope, are there any aero schools in Ontario you could recommend?
Are you near CZBA?
Not too far, north of CYKZ@@FlightChops
👏👏👏👏🏆🏆🏆🏆
I would pull my hair out if I had to listen to “SINK RATE, TRAFFIC UNAVAILABLE” constantly during acro
