I am a pro pilot and also use a kneeboard. It’s always where I need it. Love the headlamp idea as well. I usually use the elastic to hang it as a red downlight from the visor. Great information to avoid inflammation too. I love the peace of single pilot operations, but appreciate the value of crew operations. I fly Vision Jets primarily and so we are not allowed to use suction cups for the windshield for iPad or camera mounts. I use a RAM yoke mount when flying conventional yoke planes but the SF50 has a side stick. I love the PC12. Always looking for opportunities to fly some.
This is no easy flying! You have the right character, skills and attitude. You are a great aviatrix and thank you for sharing your experiences with us All the best and happy landings!
I have done single pilot IFR and no thank you, too much work ! also it is more risky than a two crew environment. I prefer to fly two crew under IFR so you can discuss the weather, decisions, etc. Great video. Keep them coming !
One nit: you don’t need a CO detector in a Pilatus or any pressurized turbo-prop. Bleed air is taken from the compressor, before the burn chamber. It is naturally hot, so is cooled by fresh outside air. Cabin is pressurized, so exhaust blow-by can’t enter cabin. Nice video! (TBM owner/pilot here.)
Having spent over 20 years in the aviation insurance industry, the whole SP vs Dual crew is an ongoing issue . I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been in heated discussions and negotiations over this topic. The fact of the matter is, a fully trained dual crew operation is certainly stacking the deck in the favor of safety. Having the extra set of eyes, hands and brain just makes things easier. Even flying a small single engine aircraft is nicer with another pilot. The thought of a large aircraft like an airbus being certificated for SP is like Kaity says, insane. In the PC12 which is a beautiful aircraft designed to be flown SP becomes an even safer operation of its dual crew when the weather is bad, the airspace is bad and you have a mechanical issue. The workload can get crazy. Kaity is such a pro, she makes it look easy, and while I can’t speak for her, I know if things go down the crapper during a flight, it’d be nice to have someone grab the radios and twist the knobs while I keep the pointy end moving forward. One final note with regards to insurance, single pilot ops have stricter requirements, and pay a lot more for premiums along with having to take lower liability limits than they may want. The premiums airlines pay would make your head spin. I cannot imagine any underwriting company allowing SP ops on the heavy iron.
The Ram mount is the best! I use it with my mini for ADS-B traffic while instructing. Great day in the life video! I hope to be there too someday but being in early 60’s, time is running out.
Nice work, personally I’m not a big fan of single pilot IFR ops but your problem solving and workload management skillsets are very well polished. You present a nice honest assessment of corporate flying e.g. 10% flying and 90%…everything else! Lastly, perhaps the hardest part no one talks about….saying no to the boss, without actually using the word no.
I completely agree with you. Saying no to the boss is always a challenge! The families I fly for are great so that’s not an issue here but it’s been a challenge in the past
Hi new subscriber. I love your channel. I have a new phone and somehow RUclips is not letting me comment so I have to reply to comments but anywho it seems that you have an exciting life and I am happy to watch keep up the great work ☘️
Thank you for your candid and very informative commentary. As a new student pilot looking for guidance as I plan my journey, different as it may be, I find your advice very valuable. Due to my age commercial is probably out, but my mission of cross country is similar, and your preparation and planning shows you are dedicated to safety, I commend you.
I love your channel and your informative narrative. I used to be a passenger from time to time on our corporate jet and really appreciate what you all do!
@pilotkaity yeah they have a couple sizes of yoke mount and a bunch of other styles. They even have some stc versions that hard mount but I don't know if they have one for pc12
I enjoyed watching your video. I'm a 75 year old pilot still flying my Cherokee 180 out of the Caldwell airport. The McCall area is beautiful to fly to... I just do it in the daytime!
Highly recommend the Pivot mount and case. I mount my suction cup on the DV window and it puts my iPad mini in the corner out of the way. Similar to where the RAM ball mount is in the NGX if you have ever been in one.
Well i must say the algorithm brought me bere and the video has me subscribing. It was a very enjoyable video. Keep it up!! You make it look so easy!! RESPECT!!
Keep using the knee board I’ve found that after 45 years of flying it’s the most reliable way to keep important information! Electronics fail from time to time !
All my life i was a car racer/drifter. I love driving and enjoy it a lot, but i never wished to become a bus/truck driver (with all the respect to them from the bottom of my heart). Best of luck and progress to you too! 🧑✈🙂
I had a knee board, (still training but got checkride scheduled finally) dang thing grew legs. Would like something that is modular cuz slip seating small planes. Great video. About reroutes, my instructor and I decided to file east of the PHX bravo to go up the hill and get some actual imc for grins, got cleared as filed, soon as we switched to departure they routed us over sky harbor and north of Scottsdale. It was nice since nobody was flying and a different view for both of us in a Cherokee. Take care.
Nice video, I also fly 100% single pilot, between different airplanes… When doing SIMS, the people just don’t understand how,one fly single pilot, but it keep you sharp. You do have to stay ahead of everything and ones days are quite busy…. Keep it going….
Love your channel. Been flying in the airlines for 27 years. I don't think this single pilot airliner would be a thing before I retire in 14 years. I feel sorry for the up and coming pilots. I will never fly again if it happens, because I think it's that dangerous. Thanks
Airline pilot here also, and you are a shortsighted fool 🤡🤡🤡 AI and computers are advancing at such a rate, that they will exceed human performance in a few years. This " I will never fly again " thing shows you to be narrow minded and unable to comprehend what is going on in the world... You remind me of the " if man was meant to fly " crowd from over 100 years ago, more shortsighted fools 🤣🤣🤣
Another good thing to carry is a fingertip oximeter if you're frequently up in the flight levels.....In case something goes wrong with the pressurization system.
An interesting insight into Single pilot IFR - and the part 91 world. I think you are a good operator with high personal standards. I like the way you constantly assess your performance. These long days at night in tricky conditions are a worry though.. Have you considered moving to a company that operate multi crew? Safe flying.
Fun stuff for pilot geeks like us! 5 reroutes, yeah! Sounds like Northeast. I have been flying a Baron single pilot IFR across the country for over 20 years and you are already doing a lot of the same things I learned over time. Headlamp with red/white light (check). GPS beacon (Garmin Inreach) (check). Kneeboard because scratchpad is too slow (check.) ( I use wide lined pads to TRY to keep it from looking like doodles.. lol) Buy fuel where less expensive (check). Knit hat (GB Packers) for warmth and selfies with the passengers(check). Gloves for when heater is acting lame. In flight groceries (check). iPad mount (mygoflight unit connected to yoke arm) (check). Pulse oximeter and spare cannulas and headsets (check) All the safety stuff you mentioned (check) Enjoy the view (check!) Thanks for sharing. Keep it up!
Re: kneeboard - I've used them but eventually discovered that a 'legal pad size' folding clipboard worked even better - providing a larger 'lap desk' space once the appropriate clips were added. Pilots are specialists. Never send a bush pilot to do a bizjet pilot's job - and Vice Versa! Thanks for sharing your insights and experiences.
As someone who came from the regionals to a 135 PC12 i love the single pilot. Same when I was in the caravan. However I would never fly single pilot in the 121 world. Looks like you have a beautiful place to fly. I fly the PC12 mostly around the midwest.
@pilot Kaity, "I’m from the UK, and although I haven’t started yet, my ultimate dream is to build my own aviation career in two fields: running a cargo airline and becoming a jet broker. These aspirations drive my passion for aviation, and while I’m still working towards them, I believe one day they will come to life. Watching pilots from all sectors-corporate, commercial, and helicopter pilots-only strengthens my desire to make this dream a reality. Each type of pilot offers a unique perspective, and I enjoy learning from all their journeys. Your content is incredibly inspiring, and I’m grateful to see your perspective as a female corporate pilot. You’re the first I’ve come across in this field, and your journey motivates me to keep pushing forward with my own aviation goals. Keep up the fantastic work!"
I thought I was the only one that still flew with a knee pad lol You are very wise to stay ahead with all of your little extras like your headlamp extra GPS and battery charger. And I especially like your catchphrase if it’s not within arms reach you don’t have it. Enjoy your channel very much. So glad to hear somebody say how flying for the airlines is not the only way to go good luck keep up the good work.
Great video, keep up the good job. I think you’re inspiring future generations. As for single pilot Part 121 airline operations, I believe that the FAA and other regulatory agencies around the world will not allow until an equivalent level of safety or better can be established. The manufacturers will have to use automation and AI to essentially replace the FO. The manufacturers will point out that the majority of accidents are caused by pilot error and that AI will reduce this. AI does not get fatigued and is more dependable, etc. A similar approach is when I do a Cat III approach to RVR 3/3/3 I have to use the autopilot and autoland. It will be illegal to hand fly.
LOL - the folks I fly with joke about my boogie board I use for notes WX and clearances.... Agree the ForeFlight scratch pad is just to finicky (especially at a big bravo when they hit you lightning fast taxi instructions)
Te felicito. Soy fanático de la aviación. La verdad que quedé helado. El porte del avión, y el vuelo en solitario. Sé que en los pequeños aviones, se hacen.
info packed! great vid kaIty. I especially enjoyed the info on ur route as thats the general route i fly commercial (passenger not pilot) im apiring to be the principal soon and have looked into charter flights. Nice to see the pilatus squeeze out that trip. Its a efficient platform
As a lowly PPL who does a lot of my flying solo this was a great vid to watch. I too keep a headlamp and satellite communicator/beacon handy. As I fly unpressurized in Colorado I also keep a pulse/ox finger meter since I frequently get over 9000MSL. Really good stuff! Thanks for sharing! With Instrument being a goal for 2025 This will have more & more applicability.
I'm a lowtime PPL and I took the longest trip I've taken so far a couple of weekends ago and with the time change it gets dark much earlier now. I was trying to beat it but I ended up getting back home just after dark. I was very thankful that I had my headlamp and a flashlight in my flight bag AND they were charged and ready to go!
@@WeekendFlier The time change does makes a difference for me as well. I make a point of doing my currency at night during the dark months so if I get caught late it isn’t as unfamiliar. Cross countries are my favorite and I’ve done several now. I don’t think I’d deliberately plan for a night arrival but if I have to divert or get delayed the extra confidence helps me make better ADM choices.
@@pilotkaity Thanks! I am fortunate to have been closely involved in the aviation community before I ever started flight training and having great mentors has helped a lot. Love the content, I doubt I’ll trade in a 30year IT career for a flying one but I am all about learning all the time and you do great stuff.
Great video, Lady. I couldn't agree more about the single pilot part 121 flying. Pilots may be pricing themselves out of work, if the air lines cannot afford 2 of 'em against the income from 100+passengers. We need some backup when we are having a bad day. My good friend was a doctor. He says we have smart days and occasionally stupid days. Don't do anything on a stupid day.
Brrr from Koh Tao in the Gilf of Thailand(vaca). Your vid’s are very inspiring for individuals looking to upgrade to a career. Shows you really love your job. Keep up the good work.
Great video. I noticed a wiggle on one of your videos and I get that from time to time. Just wondering if you are using GoPros and have you figured out what causes that? John “callsign jumbo”
Thank you for sharing and I hope you had a good Thanksgiving. Happy Sunday from Wisconsin, as I am back home for December. Have you looked at the two mounts I mentioned? Pivot and I see RAM Mounts has a PC-12 yoke mount.
I fly the PC24 so same avionics package basically. Do you find that you prefer the full HSI vs the Arc? At first I felt more comfortable with the full HSI coming from other platforms but then based on all of the available overlays (such as terrain, traffic, weather) I’ve now switched fully to the arc. Great content! Excited to follow your career! Lots of opportunities to move to the 24 from the 12. Cheers!
I like the HSI better. Idk why guess I’ve just used it more. I use the arc in other planes I fly and I don’t find it too hard to switch between the two. I do use the arc when I need terrain etc though of course
Hello Kaity, I'm a kneeboard person too and actually using my personal excel sheet I print out every single time with all the infos I need plus spare room for incoming updates 😅 I was wondering if you were preparing your flights ahead or just checking them up prior to the flight at the hangar or FBO ? In total how much extra time does it take you to be ready to take off (besides the 1h prep)? Also how many hour did you need before being qualified to fly the PC12 ? Thank you ✈️🙏
I started flying the PC12 at about 2000 hours. I get to the plane an hour before to preflight etc but and I can usually do the preflight planning the night before in about 30 minutes
Awesome, watching from Alaska, just passed my ifr a few months back, working on commercial now, single pilot ifr is the real deal especially on a fast mover, you ever pack on a lot of ice on your travels?
I am a professional too and I also use a knee board to this very day and a headlamp. I was Marine One for 7 years , I am like you, I do not like the scratch pad.
You can tell a real Pilatus operator when they know to grab the steps opening or closing the pax door. Bonus if you’ve ever opened the cargo door when someone left an open drink in the cup holder 😅
I’m trying to steer my 13 yo granddaughter into a career path like yours. Love you channel, this was a great one As to your iPad mount that’s a great one. The Ram XGrip is what I’ve used in tractor trailers cars and motorcycles for over a decade. Ram makes tons of great stuff. You may have to re glue the rubber pads at some point
@ if you bought the X Grip new it should have come with a little thing of super glue to glue the 4 rubber pads that grab onto the iPad. I’ve never even used the elastic strap that comes with them on a motorcycle or truck. For a phone mount I have switched to the Ram Quick grip because it’s an easier one handed in and out with the iPhone
Why FL230? I owned and flew a Meridian, we were always taught to fly FL270 or FL280 unless some unforseen situation came up or it was a very short flight. Just curious
Why were you taught to only use those two flight levels? Pick the best one off winds/performance/turbulance/distance of the flight/and density altitude at that flight level for the day. For example, if it’s going to be mod turbulence, I would stay a few thousand feet below the service ceiling so I’m not rocking and rolling at the tippy top of the envelope with no performance
I like the light around your neck. That's a good idea 👍. I just fly 172s for fun, but I hope in 5 years to fly as a career. I been waiting for 10 years now I can't wait much longer lol. I still have 2.5 years left before I can retire, then I plan on living my dream. 👌 I love your videos. It's reality. You don't show yourself getting on a plane and going to a beach or ski trip somewhere. Your videos are realistic and shows what it takes to fly the plane. Your videos are simple and realistic 👌 Thanks for what you do.
Hey Katie, I think you should do a collaboration with pro pilot podcast. Tell them about your LSACFI time bill and your current job would be interesting for more people to hear about.
I think that’s a great idea! I’ve done @pilottopilot and @flywithtrent as well as @journeywithjake and @twentyonefive so I’m definitely trying to get the word out there!
I, also, occasionally fly single pilot at night. I notice you were using a white light on your headlamp. Just a friendly suggestion - check out the Petzl Actik (600 lumens) or Tikka (450 lumens) in red lighting to maintain night vision. I find the Tikka to be more than enough when flying at night, and it seriously helps keep the night adaptation of my eyes. Plus, it will ONLY shine red, so I never accidentally destroy my night vision with while light. I just need to convince Petzl to use a green light instead of red! Boise, Pocatello, Caldwell, McCall - all beautiful airports!
Even back in the 80's we never used red lights for flying, only dim white ones. The red light would cause serious problems with map reading because it distorted the colors. Also if you had any red lettering on your emergency checklist you were in trouble. And this was back when we didn't have GPS moving maps and actually needed night vision to look out for landmarks. So with all due respect I see no advantage to using red lights and only disadvantages. And frankly, it seems pointless to use red light at night when your iPad/panel is shining at you in full rainbow colors.
@ - there is this handy little feature called a ‘dimmer’ on your GPS. In night mode, dimmed, it’s quite dim - if you are still flying, you might give that new-fangled technology a try. While not as cool as an NDB, and an analog clock (or even a sextant and a clinometer), GPS and e-bags are here to stay. Oh, and given that keeping a scan out that color-weather-window is still required per FAR, I’ll save my night vision with a red or green light instead. 🙂
I have a black diamond headlamp that does what and red lenses. In the plane I usually don’t use the headlamp since the cockpit lighting is really good and I can just turn the back lighting down a lot. I kinda just have it more as a precaution. When I use the white light is when I’m on the ramp and my night vision has already been reset. But I love the suggestion on brand! I love a good endorsement for a brand that you’ve used before. Thank you!
Hi, im a new subscriber... love the videos and the fact that you have chickens... I've always wondered how pilots get in and out of the cockpit when there is that center console to step over... any chance of you showing us in your next video you post how you get in and out??? I figure for a slim person, it's a breeze... but a tall, not so slim person it may be challenging.. Thanks.. Ryan from Fort Lauderdale...
Single pilot at night can become busy with ATC and other workloads !! Be careful out there during the changing weather conditions and Don’t go over your comfort zone and get plenty of sleep so that you don’t get fatigue and stress during your flights .
Great vid! I noticed the cockpit door was open with no pax. Was that to allow heat from the cabin to warm the cockpit? Also, did I correctly count 3 bananas? lol
@pilotkaity They do! Im not sure how it works exactly but I know they make a window mount that’s what I use and it’s great super sturdy and durable it’s what a lot of 121 operators use!
When you fly above 18,000 feet everyone sets their altimeter to 29.92 since we are all flying so fast and passing many different pressures we could possibly keep them up to date. So they helps us be vertically deconflicted by knowing we are all using the same standard
Arm chair pilot here...Maybe I missed it but under what parts (135, 91, etc.) is single-pilot-IFR "allowed"? Is it possible for a 777 to work under part 135/91? Is it the plane that determines whether single pilot IFR is allowed or the F.A.A. operation part?
How do you maintain verbal contact while up in the air with "dispatcher"? Since you are part 91 operation....for the Private Pilot status, would you consider "the private pilot aircraft dispatcher"? Ham radio tech license required! Looks like the King's do it...dispatcher
If the kneeboard works, it works! You sound like you were prepared for an onslaught of criticsm about it 🙂. Some may watch and have their own views but if a pilot of your obvious abilities says something - I for one listen with respect. This is my first time watching one of your vids but in that short time, I know I would feel very safe with you as my pilot. Some people were just born to fly.
Hi, curious about the salary. How does it compare to the current part 121 world? My guess is the salary is lower but the quality of life is higher. I've heard it's often a fixed annual salary, but you may only fly a few times a month during the slow season. So overall, much less flying and time away from home.
I’m a knee board and headlamp guy as well.
Some people don’t like single pilots but I’m pretty sure I would trust you to fly my loved ones.
That’s a great compliment thank you
Extra safety measures. Excellent pilot! Any company would benefit from having this safe pilot on their payroll. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, I appreciate that!
I am a pro pilot and also use a kneeboard. It’s always where I need it. Love the headlamp idea as well. I usually use the elastic to hang it as a red downlight from the visor. I had a hard time getting the ram to stay in the pc12 mount and also be able to but the control lock in. Any tips?
Beautiful scenery and the commentary is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for watching!
Wow, 5.75 million bucks and no USB outlet!!! What was pilatus thinking!😂
😂
This gig isn't as good as she makes it trust me

It definitely can be a lot of work! I agree about the risks, it's something to consider for sure.
Great video, I still fky with the knee board I bought when I got my PPL in 1986.
McCall brings back tons of good memories
It’s a beautiful place!

I’ve actually had carbon monoxide in the Pilatus before. That heated lip can crack or leak and can come into the cabin that way.

This is a great comment thanks for adding your point of view. I agree with everything you’ve said here
Thanks for another great video. Single pilot ops with hundreds of passengers is outright crazy!! I agree with you 100%.
It’s wild how fast they’re pushing it imo
The Ram mount is the best! I use it with my mini for ADS-B traffic while instructing. Great day in the life video! I hope to be there too someday but being in early 60’s, time is running out.
Thanks! I hope you get there one day!
Single pilot flying a Pilatus ifr is pretty impressive!
Thanks!
I’m sure she is a great pilot, but if it was my plane, I would have a co-pilot. If you can afford the plane, why not ?
@foxlake6750 I would too but she said in the video her company mainly flys single pilot. She doesn't own it lmao
I'm not a pilot but interested in aviation. Thanks for an informative video, single pilot particularly interests me.
Thanks for watching!

Same here I guess we are old school

You fly the PC-12 NGX...nice! I fly the "older" NG.
I fly both of them!
Pivot mounts and case. Absolutely the best. Been using them for several years and they're as good as new still. Couldn't recommend highly enough.
Do they mount right onto the yoke?
@pilotkaity yeah they have a couple sizes of yoke mount and a bunch of other styles. They even have some stc versions that hard mount but I don't know if they have one for pc12
I enjoyed watching your video. I'm a 75 year old pilot still flying my Cherokee 180 out of the Caldwell airport. The McCall area is beautiful to fly to... I just do it in the daytime!

You could use a grease pencil and write frequency changes, reroutes, on the left window. Old military shortcut.
That’s a great idea! I’ve never thought of that.

Lots of reroutes in those busy airspaces haha it’s just part of it but can be tough if you really wanted to go a specific way for training etc

I love the company I’m at now! I don’t think I’d find a better quality of life at an airline
@ multi crew in a business jet I meant.. Airline flying is rubbish! ;)
I don't do much night flying but that is a really good idea to have the light around your neck like that.
I picked that up in the Army and it’s been very helpful
Pivot (brand) mounts are pretty good as a recommendation.
Thanks!
Keep it up!
This is a great list! Very comprehensive
Thank you for keeping it real - Too many quick-class pilots out there who basically video game from A to B. never looking outisde.
It’s definitely important to be aware of your surroundings.
Great, thank you for sharing this. I am working on my PPL but I plan to fly a turboprop in the future
Best of luck!
Such a good point about pilots being specialized
Great video sis. Loved it
Thanks for watching!
As someone who came from the regionals to a 135 PC12 i love the single pilot. Same when I was in the caravan. However I would never fly single pilot in the 121 world. Looks like you have a beautiful place to fly. I fly the PC12 mostly around the midwest.
It’s a great airplane and I’m glad you get to fly it
Love u kathy n proud of u❤
🙏🏼
That’s awesome to hear your goals and aspirations!
Thank you! I appreciate that
Great video, keep up the good job.
That’s an interesting take I’m very curious to see how it all develops
LOL - the folks I fly with joke about my boogie board I use for notes WX and clearances.... Agree the ForeFlight scratch pad is just to finicky (especially at a big bravo when they hit you lightning fast taxi instructions)
That’s what I’ve experienced too
Nice. I appreciate your video. You looked really proud to carry that light around your neck 😉
It's a great safety tool!
That costal fog is called the "marine layer" and generally burns-off by noon.
Yep! Very true
Te felicito. Soy fanático de la aviación. La verdad que quedé helado. El porte del avión, y el vuelo en solitario. Sé que en los pequeños aviones, se hacen.
👍🏼🙏🏼
info packed! great vid kaIty. I especially enjoyed the info on ur route as thats the general route i fly commercial (passenger not pilot) im apiring to be the principal soon and have looked into charter flights. Nice to see the pilatus squeeze out that trip. Its a efficient platform
That’s a great route for sure! And the Pilatus does well on it as long as we aren’t to heavy we can go pretty far
Thanks for sharing!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
thanks for the ride Kaity !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the video! Mygoflight has the best suction mount systems, hands down!👍
Thanks I’ll have to check that one out
As a lowly PPL who does a lot of my flying solo this was a great vid to watch.
The pulse ox is a great idea as well!
That’s interesting to hear the perspective from the medical field!
Can you show how to adjust the cabin pressure on the different airframes you fly /pilatus?
It’s all auto on all of them. You just put the takeoff and landing airports and it all automatically adjusts
@ 👍
Brrr from Koh Tao in the Gilf of Thailand(vaca). Your vid’s are very inspiring for individuals looking to upgrade to a career. Shows you really love your job. Keep up the good work.
Thailand sounds amazing
@ food is excellent and very very responsible. USD goes a long way. Cheers.
THis is the first time I saw you and one of your videos. You are charming and very good at what you do. Thanks for sharing with us.
You are so welcome!
Great video. I noticed a wiggle on one of your videos and I get that from time to time. Just wondering if you are using GoPros and have you figured out what causes that? John “callsign jumbo”
I had it mounted to the windscreen so it’s engine vibration. I use my iPhone to film mostly
Beautiful and love your chickens. Wondering how you are compensated for your work.
I’m on salary
Thank you for sharing and I hope you had a good Thanksgiving. Happy Sunday from Wisconsin, as I am back home for December. Have you looked at the two mounts I mentioned? Pivot and I see RAM Mounts has a PC-12 yoke mount.
Thanks for the well wishes and happy holidays to you too! Happy Sunday!
Not a chance I’d ever use this. Dangerous!
Ever use what?
Love your level of preparedness! I guess the other consideration is survival gear during winter. I got a feeling winter is going to be brutal.
Definitely true! I always say “dress to egress”
Cheers!
Once certified for the PC 24, is it easy for a pilot to jump back and forth into a pc-12?
@@augggie Yes I would say so.
I like the HSI better. Idk why guess I’ve just used it more. I use the arc in other planes I fly and I don’t find it too hard to switch between the two. I do use the arc when I need terrain etc though of course
@@pilotkaity cool. You training at FlightSafety?
Hello Kaity, I'm a kneeboard person too and actually using my personal excel sheet I print out every single time with all the infos I need plus spare room for incoming updates 😅
I was wondering if you were preparing your flights ahead or just checking them up prior to the flight at the hangar or FBO ?
In total how much extra time does it take you to be ready to take off (besides the 1h prep)?
Also how many hour did you need before being qualified to fly the PC12 ?
Thank you ✈️🙏
I started flying the PC12 at about 2000 hours. I get to the plane an hour before to preflight etc but and I can usually do the preflight planning the night before in about 30 minutes
Pls cover failures/emergencies/difficult situations you have experienced, if any
Sure!
Awesome, watching from Alaska, just passed my ifr a few months back, working on commercial now, single pilot ifr is the real deal especially on a fast mover, you ever pack on a lot of ice on your travels?
Yes I definitely have. It’s something to be very aware of and have a plan to get out of it.
I am a professional too and I also use a knee board to this very day and a headlamp. I was Marine One for 7 years , I am like you, I do not like the scratch pad.
Awesome! You know the drill!
Love your videos and the class…thanks for sharing.
May I ask what headlamp do you use?
I have two Black Diamond headlamps! Love them
@pilotkaity thank you... So happy to have found your channel...
Thanks Kaity!
Thanks for watching!
Nice watch I have that one myself but orange band 😅
Garmin 235?
What was your experience in pt 121 and 135?
Interested to learn why you transcended into part 91?
Love the channel3
I flew charter and air ambulance part 135. The schedule is much better part 91
You can tell a real Pilatus operator when they know to grab the steps opening or closing the pax door. Bonus if you’ve ever opened the cargo door when someone left an open drink in the cup holder 😅
And the water always falls straight on the head, hurts every single time...
We’ve all done that 😂 dumped drinks out of the cargo door
@ Luckily I never had an open drink in the door, that would suck big time😂
I’m trying to steer my 13 yo granddaughter into a career path like yours. Love you channel, this was a great one
As to your iPad mount that’s a great one. The Ram XGrip is what I’ve used in tractor trailers cars and motorcycles for over a decade. Ram makes tons of great stuff. You may have to re glue the rubber pads at some point
Is the rubber pad means to be glued straight onto the mount? I could figure that out
@ if you bought the X Grip new it should have come with a little thing of super glue to glue the 4 rubber pads that grab onto the iPad.
I think single pilot with airline ops is PSYCHOTIC
I think it’s wild
I like the light around your neck. That's a good idea 👍.
I just fly 172s for fun, but I hope in 5 years to fly as a career. I been waiting for 10 years now I can't wait much longer lol. I still have 2.5 years left before I can retire, then I plan on living my dream. 👌
I love your videos. It's reality. You don't show yourself getting on a plane and going to a beach or ski trip somewhere. Your videos are realistic and shows what it takes to fly the plane. Your videos are simple and realistic 👌
Thanks for what you do.
What do you do for work now?
I am a videographer, but I do law enforcement for retirement purposes. Once that is completed, I can move on to some fun flying 😊
Very interesting 😊❤
Glad you think so!
See you wearing a winter coat on flights.
Why would pilatus not have a good cabin / cockpit heat system?
It does. I’m wearing it because I’m about to get out of the plane
I have a short of my husband getting into the front seat you should check it out
@pilotkaity is it the one with the apple in his mouth?? I can just imagine getting out...
Lol, I use a kneeboard as well and work 121.
Ok I’m not alone then 😂
Single pilot at night can become busy with ATC and other workloads !! Be careful out there during the changing weather conditions and Don’t go over your comfort zone and get plenty of sleep so that you don’t get fatigue and stress during your flights .
All good safety tips for sure!
Great vid! I noticed the cockpit door was open with no pax. Was that to allow heat from the cabin to warm the cockpit? Also, did I correctly count 3 bananas? lol
Just the 1 banana 😂 the door is just open because there’s no reason to shut it
Yeah Im pro kneeboard. Only leave it home if im flying gliders or helicopters.
I see I’m not the only one!
have you tried the Pivot case and mount?
I haven’t! Does it mount on the yoke?
@pilotkaity They do! Im not sure how it works exactly but I know they make a window mount that’s what I use and it’s great super sturdy and durable it’s what a lot of 121 operators use!
Baro button to 29.92. Please explain why, 4:12.
When you fly above 18,000 feet everyone sets their altimeter to 29.92 since we are all flying so fast and passing many different pressures we could possibly keep them up to date. So they helps us be vertically deconflicted by knowing we are all using the same standard
@pilotkaity Thank you so much! I've been waiting for that answer for 4 years now. You just got yourself a new subscriber.
It’s the airplane that determines it
@@pilotkaity Thanks for the reply!
Is it not possible to get approach plated on one of the MFD's?
It is but I prefer the idad
Ipad
How do you maintain verbal contact while up in the air with "dispatcher"? Since you are part 91 operation....for the Private Pilot status, would you consider "the private pilot aircraft dispatcher"? Ham radio tech license required! Looks like the King's do it...dispatcher
We don’t have a dispacth
*dispatch
@@pilotkaity sorry old computer and the keyboard is very crusty
New subscriber Nice Plane 5 blade prop wow & on solo flight out to PU ur Passengers now ill watch rest on Tye flight ..Thanks
Glad you're enjoying it!
Lovely 🌹 How to save and find a good economic International flights? Save money and time? Thanks 👍
I’m not sure about that stuff but thanks for watching
If the kneeboard works, it works! You sound like you were prepared for an onslaught of criticsm about it 🙂. Some may watch and have their own views but if a pilot of your obvious abilities says something - I for one listen with respect.
This is my first time watching one of your vids but in that short time, I know I would feel very safe with you as my pilot. Some people were just born to fly.
Thank you so much for the kind words!
I'm 71. When I grow up, I want to be a pilot.
I love it!
Hi, curious about the salary. How does it compare to the current part 121 world? My guess is the salary is lower but the quality of life is higher. I've heard it's often a fixed annual salary, but you may only fly a few times a month during the slow season. So overall, much less flying and time away from home.
That’s exactly right
I still favor a 2 person crew. It seems like a tuff job by yourself, especially in an emergency situation. Just my thoughts.
I tend to agree in the bigger planes. I feel like the Pilatus is pretty simple to fly
wow @ 10 mins In over the Little bitty mountains below lol ...wonder what there peaks are & or Ur Altitude while crossing 24K maybe
They’re about 10,000 feet
