It's definitely beautiful! If you have an artist's eye, however, you can notice the mistakes a lot easier than the average person. It's still an amazing piece, but I think the flaws add to its beauty. Art is a wonderful thing!
As an American, I'm just loving watching people I know finally have the fact that this is the story Dragon Ball is based on click in their head heh. "Wait! He's basically Goku?!" Noooo, Goku is basically him. Put some respect on the OG's name. Also running a table top RPG campaign where one of my players characters is based on the Monkey King (or at lest if he was reincarnated in more modern times as someone who thought for most of their life they were just a normal person until reality gave him a wake up call heh).
From my experience it can work but only if you limit yourself in how much of it you do. The miniature modellers probably have it a tad easier than some other hobbies due to the scale (quite literally lol). I knew of a guy who could make tons of cash but he refuses to do it because he knows he couldnt deliver the quality he strives for if he's put on a time limit as it inevitably would be. There's a lot of factors that go into it but I personally strive to make props for a living too if possible :)
Actually, I quit pursing art as a job because it really was just a hobby. You can like the work that you do, but work is work. Never turn a hobby into work... just work in a field you're interested in. That's why I do science now lol. I still make a lot of art, but.. it's just for me, for fun. And I like it that way. :)
I think you caught the main theme of The Monkey King quite well: Life is a battle against hazy monstrous forces, armed only with the biggest stick we can find.
You forget the _other one_ of Wukong's secret weapons: a frightening lack of thought on the further consequences of his action's direct consequences. Which translates into a great wilingness for hitting stuff with that big stick. Not even saying this in jest 😀
This diorama reminds me of the shoe box dioramas we made when I was a kid. We’d paint flat images for four, five and backgrounds on heavy paper and cut them out. Then glue them inside the shoe box with depth between them. We’d cut holes in the lid and cover them with colored cellophane for lighting. Finally, cut a hole in the end of the shoe box to peer into the diorama. Thanks for bringing back that memory!
"I had no idea what I was doing" flashes up and then the end result destroys all evidence of that statement. Love seeing some different skill sets being used here with the background painting. That alone was a gorgeous piece that could stand on its own. Awesome work, my friend. God bless!
I love that each week is a great lesson in "trust the process"! You know that it is going yo turn out great, but there is a point when I'm thinking, "not sure why he did that.." then 30 seconds later it all falls into place. Amazing work!
I gotta agree, having the full wrap around would do wonders at taking this alley amazing diorama up a step or two. It’s still absolutely amazing! The depth is the best part
as a big fan of the mythic figure wukong and the game itself.. i hoped for you to make a build about this theme and you did not fail yet again, impressed as always. keep it up you are a big inspiration for many of us, take care
I very much appreciate that you mentioned 'mighty Joe young'. There's many movies I watched as a kid that not many people have heard of and that's one of them. Even if you haven't seen it, just you mentioning it made me smile.
I'm usually a little disappointed when you do something other than The Imaginary West. (That's testimony to how much i love it, not to the quality of the rest of your work.) This is an excellent piece. It tells a story. Thank you for the inspiration. You have been blessed, and you're blessing others.
Man the work you have done is amazing The illusion of clouds and Chinese god is so good it is so soothing to eyes As Indian I have a request to make a diorama of " Raj : An ancient epic" game
That's awesome! Also, I love that you include other people's work in your videos! It's great to see other artists on your ever growing platform! Keep up the great work!
DUDE!!! The last epic scene in deadpool wolverine!! Where they short circuit the machine thing. All I could think was, this looks exactly like a Boylei hobby time model. Check it out if you get a chance.
I could watch your videos all day , so satisfying of the detail you put into your world growing. The concept and story should be a show made of your work
Very convincing distance effect in the background painting, amazing. My only note for the scene would be maybe to file down the bottom of the figure's feet a bit so it looks like he's really got weight pressing down onto the rock he's standing on rather than being a model perched on top of it. The texture of the ground is awesome and looks very convincing in its scale.
5:55 Ah yes! The five ground...just about the most important part of the build...almost as important as the mighty six ground. But i digress. U are always sneaky hilarious my boy Boylei 😂 Beautifull creation as always ❤
Am I the only one getting goosebumps from the amazing artwork and music, huge fan of the Monkey King and the game is amazing but this Rocks awesome work Boylei 😻👍
Fantastic results! The pillars added dimension but are kinda over-detailed, also the stone texture on the top worked better then the painted marble on the bottom.
I started making dioramas and display bases to display my anime figures and other collectables earlier this year. I must say your videos are a great inspiration to me. I learn something new every time. Please keep up the good work as you get closer to 1 Million subs!
What a coincidence! :D I was on a break from building Dioramas because life, sadly. But i wanted to do something i like and The Forever WInter is an Early Access Game that ticks almost all of my boxes. They took all the best things from Art and Popculture over the years and created a vision for the perfect Endtimes, aesthetically. I thought about something like this. I know your channel for years now and since i could not build myself, my interest shallowed down on consuming content on it, but i am still in awe, that you hammer out projects every frickin week. You are a positive monster. So. i think your Project was well done and i do have some experience in canvas Painting with acrylics, i do not feel confident in in. Same goes for anything other than naturalistic stuff with prehistoric Animals. No actual experience in building post-Apocalyptic stuff. But this has been a major Interest for me since my early childhood. It is so intense and beautiful, while being the pure horror. This Backdrop method is really nice to get some scale. But i am still not sure if i want a bigger scale and a backdrop like you did, or a whole Scene with tiny people and machenery. I tend to like smaller scale more and more. Mostly because my main interest is Diorama Landscaping. I will take this as motivation! Thanks! Haven't watched you in a while but i see you are still kicking! I'm glad.
I learned to understand Vietnamese by watching the 10hr movie made in China and dubbed Vietnamese. It was a really entertaining movie. The tales of the Monkey King are beloved by an astonishing amount of different cultures. They're just entertaining.
This is an epic build, and some of your shots make me feel like I’m inside the diorama. Love this so much! Oh…and top notch work on the fourground and fiveground!! 🙂
That looks Awesome! Side note: in the online game Pirate101 there is a Monkey King arc as part of the storyline. He has the same outfit as here. My character uses the King's staff as my weapon.
Hey, Nice one by Kel B, making that Magic the Gathering based diorama. I actually have the Sarulf, Realm Eater card, so neat to see it be recreated so well!
That came out really nice. I watched a second time. I had figuring out where the problem was with the perspective. I realize I missed the part about the seams on the side walls. Nice save looks fine. Once again your Patreon do some awesome book knoks. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🌺
1:28 “I’m a little rusty on my canvas painting” *proceeds to create a beautiful painting*

Exactly!
Seriously...
The guy is a true master.
😂
As a kid from Singapore, I would’ve never have thought I would see a Wukong game exist when I watch Journey to the West in the 90s.

You mean as a member of the Chinese diaspora.

The sense of scale you achieved with this piece is insane. You blurred that background scene perfectly. Great diorama!

HOLY ----! You casually whip out an airbrush, do the most incredible backdrop-and that's just the start? This is beautiful.

Boylei wonderful work as always. I loved the beams in the front. The patrons did great work on there book nooks. Very impressive work all around.
That curved background painting is crazy effective. Beautiful work.
I very much appreciate that you mentioned 'mighty Joe young'. There's many movies I watched as a kid that not many people have heard of and that's one of them. Even if you haven't seen it, just you mentioning it made me smile.
I’ve seen it! Mighty Joe Young was in the regular rotation of VHS tapes when I was a kid. Glad you got a kick out of that!
Nice to see shadow boxes back in fashion. Been waiting 45 years!

Really beautiful nook!!! Your patreons also made some beautiful art pieces 😊😊😊
I could watch your videos all day , so satisfying of the detail you put into your world growing. The concept and story should be a show made of your work
Absolutely beautiful!! You should add a plaque to the bottom to fill up some of the empty space
Man, this is sick. I love the effect the lights have. The game is so good. You should definitely give it a go.
So cool! Love this diorama.
Wow! Your end piece was absolutely stunning. I loved it. Great job, my friend. Keep up the phenomenal work.
I got scared that there must be something wrong with my ears when I heard fiveground. I love that subtle pun. 😂
I know right? Pfft, he totally forgot to do the three-ground. 🙄 Rookie level mistake.
That is one very cool diorama. I don't know anything about the game/characters, but you did a great job on it.

I don't understand, how is it possible that you're so casually good at so many things?
I was already a fan, but I think this is your most visually striking project yet!
Beautiful work, Boylei! Your skills as a painter are on par with your modeling skills! Thanks for sharing this with us!
