I have been wearing shrink-to-fit 501s since 1969 and my conclusion is there is a specific and large amount of shrinkage that will occur on washing and drying STF 501s. You can eliminate the shrinkage by never washing them, but that is ridiculous. You can delay the shrinkage by cold washing and hang drying, but eventually they will reduce down to their natural size. But there is no process that will shrink 501s to smaller than their natural size. That is why it is so important to buy the correct size by taking into account the expected shrinkage. If you go back to before the 1990s a pair of 501s would often shrink up to 4 inches in length. But in the 1990s 501s appeared to shrink around 2.5 to 3 inches. During that period Levi's tended to make shrink-to-fit 501s longer than the size marked on the tag so after washing they didn't appear to shrink as much as earlier vintage 501s.
This really gives me encouragement, I bought Naked and famous jeans and they are one size too big. Their size chart is all over the place and I can't walk into a store and try them on first, I have to order on-line so thanks for the experiment
I just got my first shrink to fit! Made & crafted 80s 501. I went 2 sizes up. Now they are too big but im happy to see this. I hope my turn out to be good fit.
Hi Guy, I m a french fetishist of 501s Levi's since my first pair I've got when I was 14een it was naturally à STF ,and wearing pre skrunk 501 Levi's since I'd want to buy again a 501 STF Could you tell me the right size I've to buy knowing that the size of my pre shrunk 501 are W33 L30 ... Than you for your answer.... The 501 Levi's is for me the best jeans becoming a real second skin when faded up well-worn by dint of being worn every day....
It’s a tough one. They change slightly every year and the vintage years all over the place. I will do an episode about finding your fit for the regular line shrink to fit. Not sure when. The best is to order and return or get to a store.
AM a technician worked in manufacturing these denims .once it’s mentioned rigid there wonnt be any shrinkage only in inseam and waist about 1” will shrink but hip thigh n knee will remain same all vdos I see it’s hilarious 😂
Great channel. I’ve got some Levi’s stf that are 34x34. Still too big after a tub soak. Will the shrinking process still work after a few months of wear? ( I would like to develop some fades first)
So if I wanted an 1-1.5 inch smaller waist how hot would you recommend the water , but I don’t have this type of machine let’s say hot water in tub? You think it would do the trick??
@@denindenim oh really! So if I throw it in a . Washer even in the cold water , short cycle , rinse &,no spin it’ll shrink? & but it stretches back no with the wears ?
I show the effects of all possibilities. The pair is still wearable. It now has a unique but less than desirable patch. Beautiful color and smooth feel. But I prefer tub soaking or wearing rigid to smooth overall. Thanks for watching.
My first STF was a pair from 1984 size 36x38. I was hoping for 33 or 34x35. I got 32x37, so I had to get them hemmed, which sucked. The 32 stretched out and fits good now.

Ordered an indonesian trousers in 42, although I'm a 40 (for the sake of thigh room). This vid encourages me 😉 🤜🤛

I bought true to size, and there way to baggy. Not sure if they labeled it wrong, hopefully shrink to fit does it’s job.
Yeah it fitted nicely
I’ve got the exact same issue exact same pair. Ever get the proper shrinkage?
@@redglove7748 they're*
I just got a pair that are slightly too small…do you think they will stretch out little?
great video! i wonder if you can do a similar method from the knee down to make it tapered 🤔
You mean stand in a tub to the knees?

Sick ass washing machine dude !
Thanks it’s a wash dry combo.
That’s actually insane wtf
Just eat more somone told me
u might be lucky to shrink it two size down but 5 size is pushing it
Can you shrink denim that isn’t rigid or raw ?
Nope. Only the STF rigid will shrink.
I have a lot of fat jeans, I hope this works.
Bro did the denim stretch back to its size or stayed shrinked?
Im 33” and bought 36”
Purpose of shrink new one feels like super BIG

I had that pair stitched to fit. You might get a little more shrink with a second soak.
Dude! Why your washing machine has menu in polish?

What about regular Levi’s? Should we expect shrinkage?
If it is Shrink To Fit then yes.
@@denindenim I’m talking about the regular ones, not shrink to fit.

Water temp doesn’t matter as much for shrinking. Any wetness will do.

no offense but i'm surprised ur a 31!!1 haha lucky

@@denindenim what size do u think is the perfect size proportion wise?
@@caivsivlivs ideally your inseam length is more than the waist. 30x36 would be a tall freak. 36x30 would be cubby. Square sizes are healthy.

,Or add 150 lbs to your weight. That's going to save your denim from the abuses of trying to shrink it.
It does not seemed t have worked AND the jeans look ruined!!
Then let that be a lesson
