I loved toms jack reacher and didn’t get why people were so obsessed with size, then I watched this. Tom just doesn’t intimidate. He gets most of the character but that
See it was just the opposite for me. I read the first book and I just couldn't get into the movie as a result. I've always had a tough time accepting Cruise in any kind of action roll, but silent giant tough guy is just too far. This one was just way to out there for me.
Binged it in _one_ sitting and I'm actually happy they made it 8 episodes - doubling that would've been terrible with _lots_ of unnecessary filler. Quality over quantity! That said, can't wait for the next seasons, hoping they do at least... 10 seasons AHAHAHA!
I remember reading the books and thinking, Tom Cruise...what? Then when I saw the trailers for this show on Amazon I was blown away. Alan is almost exactly as Reacher is described in the books. I loved the show and can't wait to see more Reacher and just more of him in general, he's awesome 👏🏽
This new and improved recast is a perfect fit for the Reacher series. Alan does a fantastic job in character and the supporting cast was the cherry on top. Great job on casting, writing and producing! I have now watched the series 4 times and still find myself loving certain scenes like when the guy is bad mouthing his girl and Reacher just stands there until the guy mumbles up to him and says he won't do it again and Reacher just stands there. Absolutely perfect! Keep this franchise going...please!!
Other than Cruise being 5,7. He did the part justice. At least somebody took the books to the screen. I saw the new series and it was done very well...
This was an amazing show! One of the best series I've seen in recent memory. The whole cast, production and story were top notch! He has every reason to be proud!
The guy is so freaking nice that he resists the soft ball invitation to dunk on Cruise a bit, and turns it around into a top notch comment. That was pretty wholesome.
Such a great show, cannot wait for season 2. I also think he would have been perfect for Steve Rogers...even Eddie Brock/Flash Thompson (for Agent Venom, in a perfect world) .
Loved the series. I've been a fan of the novels for years and he perfectly suits the description and did a great job of balancing looking aggressive, intelligence and silence.
Awesome show. I remember him in BMS, he was historical. In Reacher he looked like he got bigger. Great for him, but a great role and he seems in great health, both mental and physical.
I suffered with panic disorder for many years and tried to hide it from everyone. I finally found a doctor who said go tell everyone, it was so liberating. It also helped so many others admit they struggled as well
I would like to say that Alan was absolutely wonderful in his portrayal of him, for me, he both gave off the impression that this was the badass fighter and at the same time the intelligent Reacher that wouldn’t take poop, Kudos my friend
Love this show! We have watched the entire series twice and working on a third time. It demonstrates that Amazon CAN do a good adaptation when they try! Sure, it wasn't a 100% scene for scene adaptation but it worked very well and did not detract from the story or from any of the characters. And I can no longer envision anyone as Reacher but Alan.
I'm from the UK never heard of Blue Mountain State and Never read the Reacher books but he made the Character very believable and likeable. Also the other Characters were also very good and I like the direction of a season wrapping up the whole story and he moves on to a new place with a whole new situation. The only problem I had with the show is that it was only 8 Episodes not 10. I hate this new trend of doing 8 Episode seasons
Good to hear this. I didn't go into the show with a comparison to the previous versions and just thought the whole thing worked from the get-go, very entertaining and well cast. Also interesting to hear Alan's take on his personal process. I could relate, as was someone who initially had fought a diagnosis of depression and then realized it was true and after that learned to live with it in a much more positive way, and realised it was in fact a relief to know and gave me a much better chance of dealing with it than the much scarier place I'd been in when I didn't realise what was going on with me. It's inspiring to hear him speak on these things (in this and another video from the same interview).
This dude is a amazing actor and im happy that the industry is actually using his talents for good scripts. Hope we will se more of him. I already knew this guy was great at acting by watching blue mountain state.
I watched the entire show within a few days. I rarely finish a show let alone watch more then two episodes of it. This show was very good. The characters were good, the cast was very good and the story kept things moving.
first thing I saw Alan in was in titans and was really surprised he wasn't a bigger name in Hollywood. Dude deserves everything good that's happening for him now I hope to see him in more movies
He was great as Reacher . Wondering why they ( Lee Childs and all involved in bringing the book to life as a film ) went with Cruise ? Tom had the emotional and presence down but clearly ( If you had read the books ) physically no comparison . That aside , it got noticed and perhaps fans of the books were vocal enough to push for a more physically matched actor to the books description . As a series it’s a great way to tell the book stories .
Apparently Lee Child wasn't happy at all with Tom as the choice for the films. He didn't think he has the commanding physical presence Reacher needed. But I guess he was overruled since he had probably sold the film rights, and I'm sure the producers wanted a big name to carry the franchise
@@jamesgreensmith6469 Lee Childs laughed all the way to the bank with each movie. He eventually had to bow to his fans as told to Stephen King and other interviewers. Btw, the Sydney herald times called the TV lead a one-note Reacher. Other reviewers called the series watchable especially if you are killing time.
Congrats Alan, been a fan for a long time and go thru a lot of the same turmoil periodically. Cheers to you and yours. Yet you'll always be Thad in my book. Thanks
I've read a lot of the books and I always liked the movies with Tom Cruise too. I really thought this version was spot on. Can't wait to see which book they base season 2 on.
Reacher was awesome. I binged all 8 eps and then told my wife about it and she binged thru it. Alan was perfect for the role. Everyone seemed perfectly cast. The guy who played the business mans psychopath son was also great.

This adaption and casting was excellent. Please acquire the rights, and do the same for John Clark and Without Remorse. Fans of the genre have been asking for a proper John Clark/Without Remorse adaption for decades, and we never get it! If Amazon can do Jack Ryan and Jack Reacher correctly, then they can definitely get John Clark right.
Alan, you seem like a really nice guy and I wish you much success. My wife and I loved the series and are eagerly awaiting season 2. I am a retired Marine and Viet Nam combat veteran. I loved the fight scenes.
This was such a great show! Perfect casting, great dialogue and immersive storytelling. I haven't watched a show in so long where I've loved the main character so much. He's not real and yet I want to be Reacher lol!!
Wow. I'm impressed. An actor living in the here and now and exposing warts and all. What a breath of fresh air. I like his statement on his mental health. When I was a student, I was accused of being smart but "not applying myself". Fast forward to my mid-40s and being diagnosed with aspergers syndrome. It aided me well in the military (every curse has an upside), and thru drug therapy I'm able to interact with civilians without breaking their legs or other bones.
I freaking loved the Reacher series. I can’t wait to see a second season. It truly was one of the best shows of the year. And Alan looked F’N ripped as hell. Perfectly fitting the Reacher character
Being accused of something you can’t even comprehend will destroy you. It’s jealousy, because you’re so impossibly perfect! Thanks for opening up and sharing with others. I had that experience and I hit bottom as well. Don’t think about too much. Let G-d guide you every step of your way. 🙏💗
Ritchson and I favor each other, and I was literally in college when Blue Mountain State was hot. Even though I’ve always had a bite of spite towards him for all the hundreds of times I heard “Hey it’s Thad!”, I was so proud of my brother when I heard he landed Reacher lol go get em bro much love.
You sir embody Jack Reacher. You are exactly what I pictured Reacher to be when I read the books so many years ago, in character and how you physically fit the part. Cruise is a great actor, and as good as he is, he can never be the 6 and a half foot Reacher.
Reacher is 6'5 Bob. Alan did a solid job at 6'2 although they did a little too much overcompensating for the fact he wasn't quite the size of Reacher from the book in the show imo. Obviously Alan is closer in size and stature than Tom, but I definitely liked Tom's intensity as Reacher. I read "Killing Floor" again prior to watching the Amazon series and they got most of the details right with a hair color change here or there (according to the book Kristin Kreuk looks more like how the officer was described than the wife she played and vice versa) the requisite changes to fit the current culture and TV. I liked the addition of Neagley who isn't in "Killing Floor" just as a Reacher fan, and overall I dug the show. While I wouldn't say Alan was 'perfect casting' as everyone else has stated, (Reacher from the book would still tower over Alan by 3 inches and 15 pounds) and I missed that aspect to the character, I did like him in this and he's closer to the aesthetic of book Reacher and brings the female audience to it that I know was desired. I enjoyed it enough to look forward to them tackling "Die Trying" next season etc.
@@greglawsonmusic8456 I was hoping that they added Neagley so they could do "Bad Luck and Trouble" a bit sooner than season 11 haha. As much as I love Die Trying, I'm hoping they skip it and do Tripwire next. The way they handled Roscoe during this season would tie in perfectly to the start of Tripwire.
As someone who has read the whole series and first read them just after they came out…. this is the casting that was needed for the film and was an absolutely correct choice.
He brings up a crucial point - in the books Reacher's size is a character of its own. It really defines Reacher and while Cruise did a great job, a reader of the books has a hard time getting past the size of Reacher in the books vs. Cruise.
Interesting commentary on size. I have a friend whos a mad reacher fan, im not, have watched the show now and love it, he tells me this version is pretty much exactly as he imagined reacher to be. So goes to show….
Alan always seems to be the best part of any project he is in, including when everyone around him is also very good. He is definitely an elevating presence.
Just done with episode 2 great show and Alan is physically and mentally this great character. I didn’t see the films or read the books but it gave me that Andy Mcnab and Chris Ryan character building. I now need to read Lee Child.
The show is fantastic and Alan has done a fantastic job in this. I binged all 8 episodes. Not 1 stinker in it. The cast is just fantastic. Here's to many more series to come.
I was Furious when itty-bitty Tom Cruise was in the first movie as Jack Reacher I couldn't belive it ...he did not fit the Reacher body as in the books .. Omg !! You can't imagine my Joy when Alan was the New Jack Reacher. He is Awesome!!!! If you have not read the books ... You will understand.. Love this movie with Alan !!!!! Happy lady here now !!!
just stumbled upon this and Holy Sh!t - the candor, the openness - what a beautifully honest conversation. I have so much respect for you both and thank you for discussing the process.
I have waited for this since I read the book in '99, of course, as a reader, I invisioned Reacher as the love child of Dolf Lundgren and Val Kilmer. Val's personality and Dolf's size.Alan personified Reacher. Yes, Tiny Tom brought the role to the masses, but he's not Reacher. And the kool thing is they did the whole season with the first book. So, film faster....two books a season/year. Also, it was good seeing Lee Child bump into reacher in the diner.
It's nice to see someone trying to stay true to source material and try to impress the core fandom that made the material popular enough to earn its own series
He seems like a good guine dude! I absolutely love Michael's choice of guests and his podcast as a whole, good job and please keep it up! I'm a huge fan of your show!
Alan, this was the right message and messenger at the right time for me. I am so impressed by your humility and strength going through the audition process. I’ve recently become a full time professional speaker and the process is similar, albeit it less glamorous and lucrative. Your portrayal of Reacher is work you can be VERY proud of. Your overcoming the process to get there and come out this balanced is heroic. I’m rooting for you. Chris
I turned it on about 5:00 one afternoon and couldn't turn it off. Went through five episodes that night and the last three the next day. The show is off the hook.
I've seen alot of interviews with him, if you listen you can tell he doesn't want his height/size to define him. A buddy of mine is 6'8 he often says he gets tired of people focusing his size vs his craft /path in life. This reacher show is good but it's so determined to let us know "look how BIG this guy is," Alan wants to be an actor not a walking prop.
I’ve got a good friend who’s a monster, 6’4, 265, can bench 450, squat over 600, absolute tank. But he is also quite smart, is an engineer, and often says he wishes people would realize he’s not just some meathead. But also a thinker who knows how to process things and work them out. Don’t always judge a book by it’s cover I suppose.
If you've read the books, you know that Reacher's size and strength are emphasized because they make him (believably) capable of doing what he does. Consequently, the actor who plays him should fit that profile if they want to be faithful to the original stories. Real life is, of course, another matter.
@@FrancisDietPodcast Dude he wants to act "despite" his size he doesn't want it to define him, passively attacking people in comments does what? you don't have to be 6'3 to understand verbal and none verbally " tells" to certain questions.
@@RiderRed well considering I work in psychology and what u said his tone and his kinesthetic movement during questions about his size didn’t change ( and I’ve seen other interviews ) is a no. I think people gave Tom Cruise too much flak over this. That first movie is awesome. I too think it's one of his best roles. Jack Reacher might be my favorite movie he's ever done, frankly.
Both movies are awesome!
I loved toms jack reacher and didn’t get why people were so obsessed with size, then I watched this. Tom just doesn’t intimidate. He gets most of the character but that
I like both the movies and the show
See it was just the opposite for me.
I read the first book and I just couldn't get into the movie as a result. I've always had a tough time accepting Cruise in any kind of action roll, but silent giant tough guy is just too far. This one was just way to out there for me.
Ever since BMS I watch everything Ritchson does. Binged this over two nights and I'm still upset they didn't make the season twice as long.
His series Blood Drive was really good, it deserved more than the one season it got.
This was the real Reacher. The smartest and the most intimidating guy in any room.
This was an amazing show! One of the best series I've seen in recent memory. The whole cast, production and story were top notch!
He has every reason to be proud!
I like both. Alan is more faithful to the source material but Tom, as per use, did an amazing job .
I love the way the show follows one book from beginning to end. I really hope they follow that trend.
You got me with Agent Venom, I can totally see that in the Sony Universe.
Not Rogers. Too much of a boy scout
He plays Hawk man in Titans and he was aquaman in Smallville
Terminator?
Spot on with the Flash Thompson stuff.
I love Alan Ritchson, I was sad to see him go in Titans, but glad to get to see him in such a great series. The character just fits him like a glove.
I've loved everything I've ever seen this dude in, especially Smallville and Titans. I hope he has a very long and successful career.
Blue mountain state.
Blue Mountain State and Blood Drive were also great
@@MVTJ25 PARTY AT THE GOAT HOUSE!
The whole first scene when he isn’t saying anything. Just great. Great casting
Wonderful casting director. Love everyone on Reacher.
I binged REACHER yesterday. Absolutely loved it and him! Wished there were 12 epeisodes afterwards. Can't wait for season 2.
Saw Alan's "Reacher". He gets the role & character. He swung for the fences...and connected. Very well done!!!
I was so excited to see Reacher and Alan Ritchson delivered. To find out he has Bipolar Disorder, as I do, and hear him talk about it is just amazing!
“Mith Thimmonth, I’m really Thad”
I absolutely loved season 1. Alan is the perfect cast for Reacher. Dude killed it! Looking forward to season 2
I suffered with panic disorder for many years and tried to hide it from everyone. I finally found a doctor who said go tell everyone, it was so liberating. It also helped so many others admit they struggled as well
He was born to play reacher. I watched the whole season on my only day off in the week and loved it.
I would like to say that Alan was absolutely wonderful in his portrayal of him, for me, he both gave off the impression that this was the badass fighter and at the same time the intelligent Reacher that wouldn’t take poop, Kudos my friend
As someone who hasn’t read the books but enjoyed Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher, this guy was phenomenal as Jack Reacher.
Same
One of the best shows I’ve seen - great casting and the acting from Alan really landed well - he clearly did his research on the character 🙌🏽
Watching this interview is what made me watch the show. This man’s level of intellect and suave made me have to see what he could do on screen.
The first season of Reacher was perfect. Loved it. Can't wait for the next season. Thank you.
He killed it as Reacher. Loved the series!
Just finished the show today. Alan did amazing and the rest of the cast were so good too. So glad it got renewed as fast as it did.
Alan did a great job on the reacher series. At first I was in the fence but then it grew on me and he completely captured the role.
This dude is a amazing actor and im happy that the industry is actually using his talents for good scripts. Hope we will se more of him. I already knew this guy was great at acting by watching blue mountain state.
Lol I remember watching Rise of Thadland during uni and he is so different from his BMOS character in real-life and in other roles like Reacher
I watched the entire show within a few days. I rarely finish a show let alone watch more then two episodes of it. This show was very good. The characters were good, the cast was very good and the story kept things moving.
Blue Mountain State was far beyond it's years. Such a great show!!!
So strange to see him as a normal guy rather than the intense loner special forces type he plays. Shows what a good actor he is.
This guy is so genuine.
Perfect casting.
Also the female lead forgot her name but man was she amazing or what. True chameleon. 👍🏻
Roscoe man, Roscoe 😀
Willa Fitzgerald, she was great!
@@yawaramin4771 yeah that's it. Such a strong character too.
@@waltherziemerink P Coltrane lol. I meant the actress her name hahaha.
Details matter
first thing I saw Alan in was in titans and was really surprised he wasn't a bigger name in Hollywood.
With all due respect to Tom Cruise, that's the Reacher I was waiting for as a huge fan of Lee Child's books. Great job guys.
Tom and Alan's Reachers can coexist. Both are enjoyable to watch, there is no need to pick one or the other.
Reacher was awesome. I binged all 8 eps and then told my wife about it and she binged thru it. Alan was perfect for the role. Everyone seemed perfectly cast. The guy who played the business mans psychopath son was also great.
Just binge watched the series, OMG. Didn’t expect it to be that good. Best show I have seen for ages. Can’t wait for season 2. Only problem is my wife now want me to work out every day!!!!
This guy seems so fun and down to earth! I loved his performance as Reacher!
This was such a great show! Perfect casting, great dialogue and immersive storytelling. I haven't watched a show in so long where I've loved the main character so much. He's not real and yet I want to be Reacher lol!!
Read the books. They are a lot of fun.
Alan nailed it in Reacher. First show I've truly enjoyed in a while.
I'm so glad he got this role, like finally such a great role, in a grow show, for Alan Ritchson. I think he was so, so enjoyable as Jack Reacher.
Thanks Thad!
I am glad for Alan, listening him he deserves and i am happy he is speaking out about his issues, learning from them and helping others
You sir embody Jack Reacher. You are exactly what I pictured Reacher to be when I read the books so many years ago, in character and how you physically fit the part. Cruise is a great actor, and as good as he is, he can never be the 6 and a half foot Reacher.
I pictured Howie Long. Too old obviously but this man embodies what I envision
@@daveg4236 oh good call. Howie Long would have fit the part very well too.
@@greglawsonmusic8456 it's entertainment. Get over yourself
Honestly One of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen across all genres
I like both version the Tom Cruise movies are fun but his version is far better and i cannot wait for season 2. Great show all around.
As someone who has read the whole series and first read them just after they came out…. this is the casting that was needed for the film and was an absolutely correct choice.
For a first season it sure did present the character as the books intended him to. Can't wait for season 2 and yet the ball rolling.
Read all the Reacher books. Great read, but this series is very, very well done.
He brings up a crucial point - in the books Reacher's size is a character of its own. It really defines Reacher and while Cruise did a great job, a reader of the books has a hard time getting past the size of Reacher in the books vs. Cruise.
This guy went from Blue Mountain State as thad castle to Jack Reacher to Fast and Furious X. He is crushing it. By far the favourite was Thad Castle!
Thoroughly enjoyable series. Binged it. Can’t wait for next season.
The Cruise Reacher movies were fun movies, but did not as Reacher films. He just does not have the physical size to properly be Reacher.
Chris
How has this dude not been cast as He-Man?
Because WB is really good at missing opportunities
Honestly it sees like they want the Prince Adam actor to be He man vs a Shazam way.
Alan or Hemsworth would be great for heman
I turned it on about 5:00 one afternoon and couldn't turn it off. Went through five episodes that night and the last three the next day. The show is off the hook.
I've seen alot of interviews with him, if you listen you can tell he doesn't want his height/size to define him. A buddy of mine is 6'8 he often says he gets tired of people focusing his size vs his craft
/path in life.
No Alan wants to act he doesn’t care he had to get bigger ! None of u clearly are big guys (6”3 270 here )
@@FrancisDietPodcast Dude he wants to act "despite" his size he doesn't want it to define him, passively attacking people in comments does what? you don't have to be 6'3 to understand verbal and none verbally " tells" to certain questions.
@@RiderRed well considering I work in psychology and what u said his tone and his kinesthetic movement during questions about his size didn’t change ( and I’ve seen other interviews ) is a no. He stayed slim due to Hollywood finding rolls difficult as when your a big guy and no one else is u look overly big . He loves to train heavy and hard . Stature is something u have to have felt . U can’t guess . Ps don’t do pseudo psychology it sounds awful.
The whole show was incredible. I watched it with low expectations and binged the whole thing in 1 day and now can’t wait for the next season!!
