No one took on the $40B African project. Why did Japan lose face after China completed it?

  • More than a decade ago, China took on a $40 billion highway project in Algeria that no one else dared to attempt. Despite facing numerous challenges, China completed the project, which spans 1,216 kilometers and traverses harsh desert terrain. Japan, which initially managed part of the project, abandoned its section due to difficulties and high costs, leading to a loss of face when China successfully finished it. This achievement underscores China's commitment to infrastructure development in Africa and highlights the benefits of the Belt and Road Initiative.

    China is gaining a reputation as the infrastructure maniac, and decidedly deserving so. China has worked well with African states and that cooperation has spread to the Middle East, South East Asia, and Latin America.

    The instability in Algeria has always been caused by foreign countries, especially France, the ex-colonial contry. France has never forgotten its shameful defeated by the Algerian people. France and other countries still have their eyes on the wealth of Algeria. Remember that the French army has robbed and filled its pockets with tons of gold from Algeria in 1830 and has not stopped from exploiting the resources of beautiful and rich Algeria until 1962.

      Viva Algeria!! You forget one thing, Algeria is not a small country in sub-Saharan Africa. it is a large country that only accepts equal partnerships and gives technology exchange. Algeria has the best raw material wealth in Africa and among the best in the world. China benefits from advantages on the price of Algerian materials in exchange for technological exchange. it's not just about building, enjoying the riches and bye bye. No with Algeria it works on an equal basis. Otherwise no contract with China. So China needs Algeria as much as Algeria needs China. Algeria is a country with a sovereign people. To have the chance to win contracts with Algeria, you must meet specific criteria with an equal exchange. Algeria is the first country in the world to have recognized China as a Nation, and it is the first country to have supported China to join the United Nations. The two countries have been friends for almost 80 years. Algeria has worked hard to bring China into the ranks of a Nation at the UN.

    Japan, notorious blocking and sabortaging China bid for engineering Projects. Japan failed to complete most of its project incapable to resolve the rough terrian obstacles, fled leaving the project uncompleted. The owner begged China to reinstate it and reconstruct to completion.

    • @michaelchen4879
      @michaelchen4879 Месяц назад +1

      Frankly, whatever the owners had begged China to reinstate or reconstruct, all of them were the most difficult and dangerous tasks which had been fled away or abandoned by others.
      I don't think it's fair to always leave the hottest potatos to China. I am sure Chinese engineers would have suffered quite a lot gruelling work which might have brought them extra over-burdens under very harsh enviornment. Salute to China.

    Same as Vietnam, before VN worshipped Japan and Korea so much, they didn’t wanna let China do any infrastructure project, only early 2000s they had a small Chinese company to build a short railway In Ha Dong-Catlinh, but had many issues that delayed years(which caused by VN’s red tape/corruption) but they blamed only Chinese side, and refused to cooperate with China,…but now after many failures in negotiating with Japan, also the completion and functioning well of 2 high speed rail lines in Laos and Indonesia has made VN government changed it’s mind, and started let China in

    • @michaelchen4879
      @michaelchen4879 Месяц назад +3

      Well,let me say that, actually China people strongly opposed their government to help VN
      building any kind of infrastructures,especially the railways and highways. Because VN is never a friendly and trustable country to China. It is the same of VN people.The images that
      VN government and her people left to Chinese people is very negative. But Chinese government has decided to help VN accomplish what they required. For the past decades,
      VN had intentionally blocked China to get involved in any VN's infrastructures. Instead,VN
      had tilted toward Japan and Korea all the way. China didn't say any words except observing it quietly. But Japan is a declining country almost in every aspect if comparing to the booming of a strong China. China's reliablity in infrastructures has won them reknowned reputation worldwidely. They really don't care which country that VN government would like to choose or work with because Chinese companies and engineers are very busy in finishing numerous projects both in domestic and oversreas. They don't really have interest in working for VN. But once Chinese government has reached agreements with VN government, every Chinese company will follow the government's decision. VN is NOT China's reliable friend. That's the consensus in general Chinese people's mind.

    When it comes to mega projects, while other countries attempt to take, it mostly end up in corruption and abandoned once the corruption money stops. But with china, at the very least it gets completed.

    CNMega you got many things wrong.... the highway does not go through the desert it goes through the northern parts of the country were it's fertile and green.... the problem was that the highway goes through a series of mountains that's all. and the project was finished years ago ....i traveled in this highway from east to west multiple times. i actually live next to the middle section of it.
    now china is building a new highway that goes through the desert. but first they must cut through a series of mountains to get to the desert.
