Did I snub your favorite riff? LET ME KNOW!
No Allman Bros? Whipping Post? Reed?
Paranoid, black sabath
@@AnthonyBurrito1313 bro these guys are just nothing in front of the legends that Marty played
And black dog too
Started playing because of school of rock
70's was a freaking good decade for music. Especially for great Rock and Roll.
The best music ever!! And i’m only 11..
@@kaifan4007 that's awesome to hear dude! Keep rock alive!
@@kaifan4007 you should check out Rory Gallagher I'm gonna assume u haven't heard of him cause you're 11 haha
Creedence Clearwater Revival is one of
my favorite
And football
Marty: I shall now play ten of the greatest riffs ever written not only shall I play them on the appropriate guitar with my own design pedals and correct amp settings I shall subtly demonstrate that I can play them effortlessly with my eyes closed. I shall then express my sincere admiration for the original artists in a humble and self deprecating manner. Sincere
Love Marty Rock On.
God it's so sickeningly accurate
...and here endeth the lesson.
I shall now turn on the radio, hear all these same riffs I’ve heard over and over again for decades and vomit all over my guitar.
@@tylerthompson1842 the radio will play what keeps listeners engaged. But, that top ten list will forever kick ass
Elijah D if they play those same rock songs for another 50 years I would not be surprised to see terrorist attacks on radio stations.
Please make this a series! Riffs from all the decades. 70s might just be my favorite era of music
@@67foxcharlie Agreed my man 👌
I second that!
please include - acoustic gtr licks, riffs and chords
Layla (1970). The greatest riff ever. The greatest love song ever. The greatest story behind a rock song ever. Thanks for everything. Picked up the guitar again after 40 years because of your instruction.
What is up guys Marty Schwartz here
-The legend
May the Swartz be with you
Noah Uncapher may Schwartz bless you
He is the messiah!
Legend
You are awesome love the list, what happened to Layla?
Please make this a series and do a lesson on the hotel California solo.
Funny I was just playing that solo b4 I got on RUclips rn
But don’t the Eagles heavily copyright everything?
Notorious blockers.
@Ano niem it got blocked in the US. they like to ruin our fun :(
@@Ryan-ci6il Why would they block a guitar lesson? lol

Thx man
La Gronge*
thx
Any sabbath/deep purple/zeppelin song could make it, I’d put in Layla by Clapton and more than a feeling Boston
More than a feeling, and about 5 or 6 other Boston songs. The first 2 albums had some seriously good riffs.
Yep. Layla for the win.
The censorship for Don Henley was hilarious
thejoshbtv he 100% called don a fag
thejoshbtv is he a dick in real life?? I didn’t know that. I LOVE Don H cause I grew up playing piano and his piano songs blew my mind.. I would be interested in hearing stories tho
He's a tortured artist
Used to be in the Eagles
Now he whines
Like a wounded beagle
Poet of despair!
Pumped up with hot air!
He's serious, pretentious
And I just don't care
Don Henley must die!
Don't let him get back together
With Glenn Frey!
Don Henley must die!
if he got back together with Glenn he would be dead
boyfromoz7 lol glad somebody else knows mojo
Personally my favorite riff from the 70s is the Wish You Were Here intro. Beautiful 12 string with a fun solo to play
How about "Shine on you Crazy Diamond". That guitar solo...freaking 8 minutes before the first lyric is uttered. Dave Gilmour is just... Unbeatable.
School of rock is one of my favorite movies ever! Inspired me to start a band as a keyboard player
One word: LAYLA
Pfp is fire
I absolutely love Tony Iommi!! What I find really incredible is the same guy who wrote the Iron Man, and Paranoid riffs also wrote and performed Orchid. As a classical guitarist the first time I heard Orchid I knew I would put it in my repertoire.
One of my family friends was a roadie with ZZ Top for a while and he is the one who got me started into blues rock and southern rock
My favorite is Layla by Eric Clapton. Just love the intro.
No weed was Injured during this awesome vid
Might have been dabbled in though!
I loved this video, seeing some insight into your personality, your humanity, your stories... My 2yo daughter was rocking out too! You're an impressive guitarist.
Thanks for all your videos♥️
Rad video, marty. Awesome to hear you open up about what some of the songs/artists mean to you. Would love to see this as a regular series!!
man blackdog was my mothers ringtone i remember every time when someone called her i was like dont answer!
That new ES Gibby looks great and sounds awesome, fits you well like a well tailored suit
Im 60 years old and been playing for 40 of that and this brought back lots of good memories.
Fabulous list, Marty! Love your teaching. Love you, Marty. 🤟🏽❤️🤟🏽
When he pulled out the Les Paul I was like YES Led Zeppelin and when he said Led Zeppelin I was like it has to be Black Dog
Nice to see some Skynyrd in there. Those guys don’t get the recognition they deserve. They were huge in the 70’s, sucks the original band ended so young. Between Allen, Gary, Ed and later Steve, the guitar playing was never dull. Love the vid and channel Marty
Awesome! Always love listening to you jam
My top 10 list
1. Can’t you hear me knocking - Rolling Stones
2. Life in the fast line - eagles
3. Ain’t talkin bout love - Van Halen
4.same old song and dance - Aerosmith
5. Don’t look back - Boston
6. Saturday nights alright for fighting - Elton John
7. Boys are back in town - thin Lizzy
8. N.i.b - Black Sabbath
9. Back on the road again - reo Speedwagon
10. Highway star - deep purple
I think, that my most favourite riffs: Stairway to Heaven, Immigrant Song, Black Dog, Smoke on the Water, Speed King, Black Night, Burn, Demon's Eye, War Pigs, Paranoid, N.I.B, Iron Man, Let There Be Rock, Money, Wish You Were Here, Walk This Way, Dream On and Knocking on Heaven's Door
Lmao we should be friends

Thanks, Marty! Your enthusiasm is contagious.
Hey Marty, great selection for too 10 riffs. I grew up with that music and just could not get enough of it.
Each and every one of these riffs was my favorite
I clicked on this vid cause I love classic rock. I watched the entire vid cause you’re a really good guitarist! But I subbed to you cause you GOT OUT THE LED!!! I literally cheered when I heard #1 cause I was hoping for Zep!! You ROCK MAN! New fan from Canada 🇨🇦 😊👍👏
Great job marty..thank you for all you bring
It took a pandemic for me to discover Marty and get the time to practice guitar like I’ve tried for years. Wow- I’m like a kid again with a new toy. The 70s riffs are right in my childhood wheelhouse- keep up the awesome work Marty! You’re the best!
Can't argue with that list. However, one little-known 70's riff / intro I've been finding deeply satisfying to play of late is Got To Get Better In a Little While (off Derek & The Dominos "Live at The Fillmore" album)
That 335 sounds KILLA
Ah man it makes me so happy you're still around. You were my OG guitar teacher back in like 2010 when I had my shitty first act with the strings reversed (my parents didn't get the concept of a lefty). Keeping rocking man
AWESOME AS ALWAYS
THANKS FOR TAKING ME BACK TO MY HIGH SCHOOL DAYS!!
1 second into the video and Im already headbanging
Please do a 60s one if you haven't already and omg please more Beatles!!!!!!! Like for more Beatles!!
yes this
Maybe more Stones. I’d give up all the Beatles songs except for Helter Skelter for more Stones.
Got to have Beatles... I'm looking to learn "I want you she's so heavy"...
You should do more of these top 10 favorites because it really helps beginners like me find songs that they would like to learn. I always struggle finding what I want to learn next but videos like these help.
Thanks for showing me some idea's on how to use my looper pedal I recently picked up!
For me, the word "riff" in pop, or "ostinato" in classical music is an idea which is repeated over and over again to drive all, or at least *part* of a song.
I can't hear anything like that in Hotel California or Stairway To Heaven and the Brown Sugar "riff" only appears 4x, inthe intro and then is never heard again!
Obvious examples of what I call "riffs" are songs like All Day & All of The Night and You Really Got Me! 😉
My favourite riffs from the 70s would include:
1. Rebel, Rebel, by David Bowie. 2. Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry 3. The bass guitar riff which enters at the end of The Chain by Fleetwood Mac.
I agree with you about AC/DC though, writers of iconic riffs! 😉
Lol La Gronge?
Tony Wilson make me flinch a little everytime I heard him say that. I guess being from the south I’d never heard someone miss pronounce it till I saw this😂 fuckin weird
Yeah, how dare he pronounce a French word like the French. ;)
XX Pop - La Gronge
U R AMAZING I really appreciate your tutorials 🙏
Hey my man Marty! Been watching your channel since ‘08. Loved the Martin you played mostly which I believe was your Dads. You inspired be to get back into playing after a 35 year hiatus. And yes I found myself upgrading my Alvarez for Martin 00018 re-issue. 12 years later I am up to 14 guitars. Keep up the great work. Always love checking in and seeing what you’re working on.
The Eagles tho?!?! One of the best bands of all time. So many good songs, Desperado, Hotel California, Peacfull easy feeling, Lyin eyes, take it easy, witchy woman. And it goes on forever
Were talking riffs here and none of those songs has a good enough riff although they are good songs
Nah their catalogue as a whole is pretty mid but you can't deny Hotel California is one of the best songs ever
My all time favorite Boston - More Than a Feeling.
Great List, always like your teachings
I could listen to marty all day. The man is an amaizing musician and teacher. Thanks brother. Enjoyed your list !
All hail CCR 👏
Great list! Billy Gibbons was Jimi Hendrix favorite guitarist🤘
Bro Marty you are a guitar legend. You’ve helped me learn so many songs. Thank you for your videos. Keep it up!
Nice top 10 list Marty! Got some classic riffs in there! Rock on!!!
Marty, I was hoping it would be in your lineup, but is there any chance you can do a lesson on China Grove or something by the Doobies? 50th anniversary, Michael McDonald’s back, out on tour. Gotta show’em some love.
Yeah! I'm seeing their concert in Seattle! China Grove or Listen to the Music! :)
honestly i probably would’ve had this exact same list
Great stuff as usual! I always liked a bit of Blue Oyster Cult - Astronomy.
Awesome dude! Thank you for your content
The boys are back in town you gotta have a bit of Lizzy in there.
Even with that weird non-Texas pronunciation, you killed La Grange, man. Loved it!. ;)
You hit all my favorite tunes from my youth.
Yeah it's La Grange, not La Gronge. Not that that is a big deal. Lord knows I need lots of help pronouncing some words.
Good stuff Marty! Haven't kept up to good lately on your RUclips videos. Been trying to catch up on your lessons lol! No doubt about it, you have helped me to become a much better guitar player! Thanks man!
Wow, very nice indeed. I'm still working (slowly) through your Guitar Coaching Club DVDs -- the ones I received a couple of years ago. Good to see that you're still doing this, even after the business changes.
80s riffs next, I expect Van Halen, Motley Crue, Guns N’ Roses, Cinderella, etc. lol
I grew up in the 70s, I remember when everyone of those songs were new
Hey Marty. Love your lessons. You have a great personality to add to your teaching which makes learning from you all the more fun. Besides that, you always have cool hats. Lol
Great list Marty, so many to choose from ! Rock on..
AGREE!!!
Sunshine of your love solo lesson please
by far the best favorite riffs video on youtube, and there is a very long list of those videos lol
Love your amp tune as always
Ain't Talking About Love 1978 Eddie Van Halen
Hey, Marty! You should do some "Who" lessons.
Love your list, dude! Black Dog was one of the first songs I learned on the guitar!
Great stuff, no one can argue your choices but there are thousands more that belong in there. Gotta love the 70s rock and roll:) thanks Marty...
If you ever meet Billy Gibbons again, please don't pronounce LaGrange that way! 😂😂😂😂
IIIII AAAAMMMM IIIIRR... Marty Schwartz here
For me personally, 1. Stairway 2. Paranoid (my first introduction to Sabbath) 3. Dazed and Confused 4. Free Bird 5. Whole lotta Rosie 6. Achilles last stand 7. Kashmir 8. Don’t fear the reaper 9. Comfortably numb 10. Black Dog/Custard Pie (couldn’t decide)
Fantastic man I enjoyed this
Can’t believe you didn’t run this list by your dad first. I know he was a huge Neil Young fan and would be disappointed with the exclusion of Cortez The Killer, Powderfinger, Hey Hey My My and soooooo many more.
Whilst I agree with selections you made, I disagree with doubling up on artists. For goodness sakes, Neil was voted by Rolling Stone magazine as the artist of the ‘70s. How can you not include even an honourable mention? Sweet Home Alabama is the closest you got.
Sorry, I’m just a Neil fan that believes he should be placed above all else. The hardest working and most passionate 74 year old musician I know of. Rust never sleeps.
Rolling Stone magazine also sucks, soooooo.....
Ok epic this is
Love the line up Riffs
I love your content Marty!
Hey, can you do a lesson of Alice in chains - sunshine ?
You don’t need to censor yourself. Don Henley is a famously mature and thick-skinned person 😂
Man I love your guitar collection.
Great Tunes. Love the story behind the tunes.
Hey MARTY can you please make a tutorial on how to play COMEBACK TO EARTH BY MAC MILLER
I can't disagree with you Marty.
I've learned a lot of riffs from you over the year so thanks.
That said, I think this was just an excuse to show off all your cool guitars.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR NUMBER ONE! Iv been looking for that song for over 7 years, I couldnt remember the name or lyrics or band, just the rift, and now you finally saved my mind from going crazy for not knowing it
Love your list Marty!
Do more Lynyrd Skynyrd Lessons
Please Marty, how do you remember how to play all these tunes - It seems I’ve forgotten more than I can remember when it comes to “what to play “. Lesson on this would be invaluable, please sir.....
I have to agree. I forget how to play songs I used to know. Heck, I even forget the songs I used to play.
Man Marty puts so Much feel in his playing
Dude, now I need the 50's 60's 80's 90's and 00's videos!!!!
I picked up the guitar cuz of you man...
Being a Texan, had to say that you pronounce "La Grange" to rhyme with "range". We seldom pronounce foreign language city names the way a native speaker would.
as a french, I have still not found any english people how is able to pronounce it correctly😂😂
Awesome Marty! This is a great video! Thank you much! :)
Great video Marty!👍
