From someone who also battles extreme anxiety and depression.. I have found solace in watercolors.. and from you’re videos!! I absolutely love your work!! Thank you for sharing with us!! Keep creating💙
You know there are some teachers who explain things to you with absolutely meticulous words... They are definitely necessary if we want to learn the diction of art...and there there are teachers who may not use jargons and all but they literally will learn with you which shows that they appreciate and respect the art of teaching-learning itself! And I admire this trait! I have seen many teachers who forget that they are also students at some level...which is not pleasant...and I have seen those too who never forget that in teaching they are learning as well! I see this in you and appreciate it a lot! Thanks for being such a teacher! And I say this because I have been in academics for the last 25 years of my 28 year life 😂 so...Happy Teacher's Day Everyday 😉😉
I have been a teacher for over thirty years. I have never met a teacher who was not learning some aspect of their profession. Some teachers freely admit this, others are less open about it, but all understand the principle that learning is lifelong, not restricted to how many years you spend in school. Teaching involves many skills that take time to develop; some people are more gifted in the profession than others. But all work at varying degrees to improve themselves. As a teacher who watches a variety of RUclips videos that attempt to impart some knowledge, I often cringe at how clumsy most people are in sharing their knowledge. But I am viewing this from my perspective as a seasoned teacher. I can still appreciate the courage, enthusiasm, and generosity most people bring to their videos. And I can still glean a great deal from them, especially those who have special talents and skills, even if their teaching methods are less than stellar.
I second this! Good teachers are hard to find and you are one of them. I learned a lot of painting basics from your videos because your teaching style is not intimidating at all.
In middle school I had to suffer the same teacher for 3 years. She always drew on top of my paintings, made cut one in half because it had a gun in it, but my history class had just played us songs like Streets of Laredo and it was pretty abstract, not violent.....and changed a prairie scene to a mini skirt modern scene on the women. Many of my ideas came from my history classes and other things! Strangely while insisting on perfection she taught nothing! Never told us how to use pen and ink, never told us how to draw or use paints. She announced at begging of the class or week...I want 5 pen and ink drawing of scenery. Then scolded half the class weekly for not doing anything on a guided track with NO guide. We were 13 to 15?!! Coming from crayons and cheap paint boxes in middle school. But she sat with her pets and taught them personally. I went up to her when dong this once and asked can you show the class, she glared at me. A male student knowing how took pity on me and showed me back at my desk. If I wasnt so shy back then in the mid 60s I would have reported her! She also let the football players who took the class for easy A yet I COULD draw... and never got an A???!! ....do mean things. Like purposely bump our elbow to ruin our picture. I often cried but I wanted an art class. She also often accused me of tracing? Tracing what? From what? In class? No magazines???
Kind of hard to stay "up" but hey, watercolor is fun so I just go sit down, pick up my brush and start. Makin me feel better. Or watching you. Both work. Thanks so much!
Beautiful, 😍😍😍 I'm going to have a go at this for my husband for valentines day... don't hold out too much hope, this is going to be my very first painting, apart from practicing brush strokes and wet on wet, wet on dry techniques on scrapes of paper.... oooo! I'm so scared that its going to be absolutely terrible but at least I have enough days to keep trying it.... thank you for your help, instruction and your time to teach... it's so very much appreciated.
Like many, I appreciate your talents and teachings! I’m a wannabe artist! (Retired RN) Like you, I can experience anxiety and what I call, “art inertia”! I get inspired by your tutorials. I fail repeatedly but, manage to keep picking up my brushes! Thank you!
You are my go to for tutorials. If I'm looking for something, I try your site first. It's always fun and easy to follow your direction because you explain so well. I really like your personality. You're always very laid back...even if you don't feel that way. Thanks!
Thank you for this............just what I needed last night when I wanted to paint a "little something," but didn't know what! The colors of this caught my eye first and the fact that it is loose and abstract. I'm pretty new to watercolor painting in general and very new to your channel in particular.......I have saved a bunch of your videos and will be trying more!
Girl..I know how you feel.. depression is not fun.. Im not much into flower drawings, but I am into anything abstract. What I do like of your videos are the illustrations. You had a video a long time ago, where you painted a stack of books. ..I loved that! ..
I also struggle with anxiety, depression and ptsd and art has been a wonderful way to help with that...I wish I had trusted myself enough to have tried it before my 40's :/ but its definitely been a help....though, like you, sometimes things can just be overwhelming enough that I find it hard to even start a project or I'm doubting myself SO much that I think "it'll be awful so why waste the paper or canvas and paints" but, things like this are such great ways to break through that :) and being loose is something I very much want but am very bad at...so again, these are great for that. Thank you for these and for being so open...it helps so many of us :)💕
Emma you don't do messy. You do wonderful you may call it abstract but abstract is so difficult to do. I have no Idea how you paint such beauty when you are not at your best. It proves whst a beautiful soul you are. Xxx
This is a style I really love. Both because I am a beginner and it requires less precision and because I love the sense of depth and movement with the layers. Thanks, Emma!
Holy moly I just watch all your videos as they come out but I haven’t glanced at your subscription numbers in a long time I started watching you when you were around 1000, girl you’re at 180,000 people!! That’s wonderful what a mitzvah!
Hi! You sure do make painting look easy! I love watching your videos! I think many of us are feeling a bit off these days... Be well, Emma. Take care of yourself, and please know that you are one of my go to artists to inspire me and help me feel better.
Ah. You make it so approachable and make me feel like anyone can do it. OK! I’ll try it. Thanks for creating and sharing. I know it’s tough with your Mom job and your move, too.
You're not alone about not feeling creative. I have been in a slump as well. But after watching your video, it inspired me to try a technique that I do not usually do. Keep your head up. YOur helping others with their depression and anxiety. XOXOX
As much as I'm enjoying all of the fall colors, blues and greens are my absolute favorites, and they're so lovely in watercolor. I can't wait to try these tomorrow and will attempt to stay as relaxed and loose as I can. Thanks so much for sharing your talent and ideas, even on the days when it feels more like a slog than a joy. Your work brings much pleasure to so many people.
Loved it! I’m having a pretty difficult time as well. Beyond being physically impaired (I have a bunch of autoimmune diseases that affect my mobility - I can walk but with a cane and slowly), I’m also bipolar, borderline, agoraphobic and have anxiety. So I’m a mess lately. What’s saving me is learning art and my 5y old nephew and 6 months old niece. When I’m okay enough I help my mom take care of them. It’s really tiring but they are my light. Be well. We’ll always be here. Hugs from Brazil.❤️❤️
Emma, I hope that this painting lifted your spirits. It certainly lifted mine. You are a delight to learn from! I'm am picking up so many wonderful tips and while I am a total beginner I always feel that someday I will be comfortable with my art after a tutorial from you. Many blessings and please know that you appreciated!! 💕🌸😊
Love this abstract floral!! Will try it soon. Thanks for all you do for us out here. It's been a depressing time and I know we're all tired of it. This is a great "pick me up". Love everything you do!!!! YOu do make it look easy.
This is beautiful! I am looking forward to the next videos. I dealt with my blahs this last week by painting fall cards and sending them to friends and family I cannot visit right now. They are "Thinking of you " cards with the message "Be Safe. Be Well. Be Happy." Doing this gave me a purpose for my painting, and hopefully brightened their day.
I know how you feel. It’s not any fun at all. Gotta just pick ourself up and keep going. It is a struggle. I love this and I’ve only seen the first picture. So pretty. Back to the video. Love & Hugs Emma! 🥰🤓 PS - This turned out amazing. One of my favorite paintings of yours. The way you defined the turn of the flower with the black centers is just wow. I’m definitely a messy painter so maybe I can do this. Stay safe and sane! 🌸🌿🤓
Very pretty! I appreciate this so much. I've been doing a lot of detailed botanical and bird paintings but recently felt drawn back to my loose florals. This was great inspiration for me. Thank you. I hope your painting sessions bring you joy. Life is like the ocean, waves of happiness, peace, grief and sadness flow daily through our hearts. May your sadness be small as ripples and your joy as large as ten foot waves.
During this stay at home time I have found that doing these abstract flower watercolors is a great mindfulness activity and releases stress. I sometimes do these after teaching 32 4th graders all day on the computer through distance learning!
Try not to be discouraged. This too shall pass. Your videos are such an inspiration to me and give me a much needed break from worrying. I consider painting with you healing self-care. I'm beyond grateful. 🙏 Thanks Emma!
Emma, Thank you so much for sharing your talents! You really are a ray of sun shine in my life. I thoroughly enjoy painting with you and have accomplished things I never thought possible. Sending positive vibes your way.
Fabulous painting Emma, I soooo wish my paintings were as loose as your one today, I am in awe of your ability! Keep up the great work, I love all of your videos. Stay safe 🌸
Emma, I hope you are feeling better! I have been feeling the same lately. This is a beautiful tutorial and I am so thankful for your easy going way of teaching watercolor. Your tutorials always make me want to just go paint:) Thanks for sharing and know that you are an inspiration to all of us. Hugs, Judy
I can't wait to try this! I love the freedom of the abstract, setting aside the need to be perfect and precise will be freeing to me. I am still a work in progress and have a long ways to go but I am loving the journey. Thank you as always, for sharing your gift with us!
Thank you Emma , you are an amazing artist . You are one of my favourites. You have helped me , I also battle depression, I use art as a tool to manage it . Thank you , you are brave and your brave essence has helped me xxx
I'm feeling the same way. This was a great video of something to not stress about and would make a nice greeting card to send and spread cheer as so many folks are down and stressed. Thank you!
Loved it 🙏🏾
Thank you very much. Greatly appreciated.
Wow just as quick as that, and an amazing painting :)
