I have tried your technique which is fabulous! But I get muddy colors every time. Beautiful painting!

A good trick for no muddy colors is look at a color wheel and only use colors next to each other. Then near the end pop in some colors on the opposite side of the wheel but dont let them blend too much, the opposite colors will create more mud ☺️

I kept this one wet while painting but some areas started to dry a bit and become damp not glossy wet. The only time it fully dried was just before using the stencils ☺️

Try one Pigment colours together. Too many different Pigments get muddy.

Thanks! This one is on Arches hot pressed cotton paper and i find it to be harder to lift the paint so i like to use something more abrasive like a toothbrush. Mr clean magic eraser works beautifully too, but doesnt last as long 😁

The only time the paper fully dried was before starting the stencil. The wet in wet painting before that stayed wet or damp most of the time and cotton paper will stay damp longer, but this one took a while so some areas may have started to dry a bit 😁

Yes i think i prefer cold pressed! Lifting watercolor with stencils works best on non cotton papers, but the blending and mixing wet in wet is nicer on cotton. So really any 140lb paper you want to use will work!
