Got into fly fishing a few years ago, best fishing decision I ever made. The fights are incredibly fun
Same here! Totally agree. I compare it to driving a manual car vs an automatic one. didnt know all the fun i was missing
Man that 2nd sheep Eat was epic! Quality video 👌
Nice day Cooper. Trying to get out there next Wednesday. Stay safe. Walking around waist deep, watch out for them bullies. 🦈
Been saltwater fly fishing for about 10 years now. About 1 year ago I dropped the standard fly lines and swapped to a 350grain scandi shooting head from OPST and a 7 ft floating tip along with it. It's adds so much to my set up and no for fatigue from double hauling when the wind gets crazy. It's nothing to dump 60ft of line out with one simple haul. I'm also leaning to use a switch rod for two jaded spey style casting, to cut out hauling all together. It's definitely worth a look at the OPST system.
Where you got that shirmp fly? Great video!
I actually really enjoyed the fly fishing vid. Hope you do some more every once in awhile. I fly fish almost exclusively but have been a subscriber for a long while cause I enjoy your stuff so much.
That was some great footage on the second one! I've caught one on the fly so far, but I've casted to about a thousand of them and had them do a thorough investigation of my fly.
Yeah same that's why I was surprised I got them to eat this time haha
Nice fishing. Really highlights the cool parts of fly fishing. A small tip is get a line basket. Helps prevents tangles.
No problems , I've always done the same , as long as you are catching fish , it's good , I bring my fly rod out sometimes , it fun to catch a fish ,
Now that’s first time I see anyone catching sheepshead on a fly, amazing job for sure dude
That was awesome ! Your flys you hand crafted are awesome and as always Coop … another banger for the channel brother .
Just another GREAT video, as another cold front blows thru on a Saturday morning. C'mon Spring & Summer!
Wow. Great video. I've never done fly fishing but am interested in it. Thank you for sharing.
Funny I have never watched a fly fishing video... never, but just yesterday happened to watch a video from a year ago by The Lateral Line where Nathan just picked up the old fly rod after years to catch a NZ Kingfish. He also had trouble once the wind picked up but did manage to land a nice fish. And he did a little side video of how he made his fly. Then today my favorite RUclipsr (the only channel with notifications on) makes basically the same video.
Raise your hand if you think we're living in a simulation.
Absolutely the best video you have ever shot!! You will learn the real challenge of sight fishing now !
Enjoying the content, so glad you am do this as a full time job. My compliments on the sound quality, great job there, know the wind is a battle…
Top tier editing at the beginning
An upload from Coop makes Saturday's even better!
The sight fishing on those Sheepers was awesome!
NOT GOING BACK NOW !!! Nice casting presentation for the first on the fly !!!
Fantastic video coop, love how relatable you are and easy to follow along
Real and no ego. I liked this video.
Enjoyed the video! I been fly fishing for almost 45 years and you should have seen my first flies...experimental lab train wrecks! Been subbed for a while and enjoy your attitude and we can all tell you are just out there having fun. I agree about getting a cheap outfit to learn on and also learn if you want to fly fish long term without breaking the bank. BTW, your casting, line handling, hook setting are getting better and better really quick. It shows.
A tip on casting, keep the elbow level as you go back and go forward.
Hello Thresher ,
Molly was takin folks fly fishing w kayaks at PM years ago & would literally load da kayaks on her 20’ bay boat & Put Parties of Four On Solid Gamefish,,, She was one of the Original Contributors to Gulf Coast Connections ,,, ( was a Free Magazine back in the 90’s ),,,🐟✨
YES! Thank you for shooting those "expensive or bust" guys down. No, no I e needs an expensive setup. I have been fly fishing from Montana and Wyoming to Florida and Texas... on a cheap TFO 5wt and bargain brand 9wt. They are both older than 10yrs and both have caught piles and piles of fish, tiny and monstrous. Sure, a luxury sedan drives nicer than a economy hand-me-down but they both still get you to work!
Also I love you homemade flies. My first dragonflies were made from an old flipflop and my dogs fur. They worked great!
Tight lines everyone!
Just after sweet intro
Coop: Time to step on some stringrays! Lol Another Stellar Video!
Cool flies! Gotta start at the beginning! Awesome video, sir! Thank you
Great video. Damn that ultra shallow sight fishing looks fun.
Awesome fly fishing content Cooper. Please keep at it bud. Would love to see more fly fishing videos for sure 🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💪💪💪
Thresher, I give you moocho credit for trying out SWFF. You did amazingly well. Yes, using a crittery fly for sheepies is key. Already showing skills. Soon you could be Master Ninja fly dude.
Life is bueno when you post! Thank you Sir!
Sick video bro I’m just getting into saltwater fly fishing I get my setup tomorrow can’t wait
Nice timing. Was just starting to get into fly fishing, and this solidified my interest.
Great action...... Great personal vintage collection of flies 👏👏👏
Love the vid. I bought a cheap $50 combo from Academy sports and have had a lot of fun teaching myself how to actually use it. I also bought a fly making kit ( again $ 50) and my flies look like yours......but having fun doing it. Thanks for the vid
God I love the inverted camera that makes it look like you’re on a small planet
About time, keep it up. We miss you.
Great video as always but that 2nd sheeper was epic
I'm new to fly fishing and I have a really light setup, I pretty much suck at it but I've only attempted it on two outings. I'm a lot better at making flies than fishing them 😅. I need to get some waders, it's kinda tough to find a good spot on our banks. Beautiful fish you caught 👍🏻
Wolly buggers crush in saltwater if you're using lighter tackle.
Fly fishing opens a whole new realm of possibilities! I have caught fish where nobody else with conventional gear is catching! fish are not used to seeing flies.
Love your vid.
Very relaxing.
What kind of rod and line is it?
Greetings from the Netherlands and tight lines
Keep up the great work! I love all the videos, conventional or fly! You fish some of the best places on earth too. I grew up in that area and seeing it on your videos brings joy to my day.
are you using the clearwater rod and reel in saltwater? If so that is awesome because i want to try saltwater fishing, but i only have the clearwater which i believe is not intended for salt water
M dude cooper killing it as always
Greetings from Denmark. It is such a pleasure to watch your enthusiastic approach to fly fishing. Very nice close up take on the video, which are very hard to capture. You should really try out fishing for bonefish some day if you have the opportunity to do so. You might have to upgrade the reel or maybe some other gear and you are in for a treat.
Love your videos , keep them coming .
Really enjoyed seeing yo trying to enjoy fly fishing
Sweet technique on the fly rod.
Bout time buddy! Love the video. Try Haines epoxy shrimp. You already are nailing it but trust me.
Question… what type of drone do you have and what kind of bait release do you have on it?
This prob common knowledge by now but do you edit your own videos? They’re really good man
Yes he does
I love the Christmas tree cameo! Keep it up Coop!
lol yeah.. need to put that away
@@ThresherFishing 😂
Nice to see you catching sheepshead on the fly. That was amazing 👏👊👍
Amazing closeup eat. That was just ridiculous!
I only started fly fishing a couple of months ago... I'm a saltwater angler, and the level of knowledge I had to go through just to learn that I needed to cast 50lb -> 30lb -> 15lb leaders with heavier flies was insane!! I loved every minute of it, but it was an absolute pain to get to that point!
But honestly, this kind of fishing is forcing me to realize the necessity of line diameter in all aspects of fishing!! I don't know exactly what it means just yet, but I can confidently say that trying Fly Fishing, and becoming better at it, forced me to be a better angler!! Can't wait to see what I catch with it though...
been out many times with the fly rod in the flats, and, fish close to the piers here in Galveston. when conventional guys are not catching anything, me and my fly rod do. im fortunate I got to work for and Orvis/Sage dealer part time for many years. learned a lot and taught a lot. Good job Coop. When you can afford it, invest in a really good stick, 7-8-9- even a 10 weight. Then get a good reel. and on both the stick and the reel? you'll get a thousand people telling you to get this rod/reel or that rod/reel. you have to test them out from full flex, mid flex to fast action and find what suits you the best. Good luck Coop, and bust out the fly rod more often.
Darn cool video. Really want to try out fly fishing sometime.
What weight is that rod?? Looking to get into fly fishing in Galveston
Oh shit I've tried my on flies , with out all the equipment , they use , it's always something different and if you catch a fish ,, all is good , appreciate your videos ,, love your realistic fishing content , keep it up , from a 63yr old fishermen ,
Your wooly bugger looks like a disco shrimp. A really good fly for bottom dragging for trout :) I've also caught a bunch of grayling on it too!
disco shrimp 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I live in Michigan. Some people will use fly lures on a spinning rod. I’ve seen people fish two wet flys directly behind a light weight tied on the end of the line, nymph tied behind a crank bait, and a wet fly under a bobber all get trout!
Wiggle minnow is a great SW using foam, super glue and cheap synthetic materials. It looks similar to the old fashioned lazy ike and swims the same way.
Great job, and I would use your flys, I used to tie my own to. You got me thinking, maybe I should start tying my own again. Got 2 fly rods hanging out in the garage that should be put to use. Thanks man.
You selling?
great day in the water, and awesome catches
That was a lot of fun, thank you!
The sheepshead have always eluded me on the fly lol
What fly set up were you using?
Dude that’s a great sheepshead on fly nice
Man, a good fly should hold up pretty well compared to other lures. I've tied up a few shrimp but have yet to catch anything in saltwater. Kinda nervous to hook up on anything real big though as it's only a 4wt.
Zonker streamers work really well too.
I encourage yall to join Texas saltwater fly fishing on FB. you'll learn alot! Ever since I left the spinner I have rarely gone back ! I'll only use my spinner now to skip a doa across the jetty surf to find them Jack's or Spanish then switch to the fly rod. Fun stuff. I haven't targeted sheepers on the fly but I have caught one on a shrimp fly around a pier post. On the flats or jetty slow presentation is key 🔑
Glad to see you bust out the flyrod! Keep the rod tip down while fighting a fish will give you a lot more power bro.
That's cool brotha! I've got some fly stuff I need to bust out as well.
STOKED. Love it.
I have never heard of anyone ever catching sheepshead on a fly....I certainly never thought of ever doing that. Wow!
They're called Texas Permit. Tough to catch on fly.
my grandfather gave me a cheap Berkely fly rod reel combo when I was 12. Learned to fish with it and have thousands of hours on it. Im now 65 and have nice rods but still use will the Berkely. Its guides need replaced again.
Have tied a fly at the creek using some of my dogs hair and it caught fish.
No need to spend a lot of money, fly fishing is about skills learned more than high dollar stuff.
Nice palming of the reel. You've been fly fishing off camera, haven't you? LOL, cheap and Orvis are not synonymous. Temple Fork Outfitters makes a good 5wt setup with everything but the fly for $200. I always take a fly rod because I know if there are fish, I will catch them. They may not be the biggest fish, but I'm still having fun when no one else is catching fish.
this is so funny im friends with band that you played at 1'40
Great video coop
What monopod is that?
Always like your videos. This was really good.
Just getting in to Saltwater Fly Fishing and doing I am doing this due to my Stenosis in my Spine i was told to exercise but not vigorously so i figured Fly Fishing would be the best option to keep the back muscle tuned and you know what you can wear a Tux and not mess it up. Peace.
Hey Cooper great video, i was wondering what make and model your drone is ? Im a 1st buyer and want pne for the same application you use. Please i dont want to get scamed again on a drone.
I believe he uses a DJI Mavic
@@bulgogi19 thanks
TFO is an awesome rod and even ORVIS Clearwater their lower end reels are very good. Been fly fishing since I have been 11 yrs old. Still fly fish at 54 yrs old have mor fly rods than spinning and bait casters.
That's the funniest looking baitcaster reel there.. I think it may of been damaged during shipping... 🤪🤪🤪
I wish I still had the first fly I tied. I made it with a bit of hair I snipped off my German Shepherd's tail. I was around nine years old with no money. I didn't even have a fly rod. But I loved fishing and wanted to do the fly fishing thing.
need more thresher tiktok
Let's go! Texas fly dreams.
Where did you get that shrimp fly from?
Great video my man.
Nice sheepers to Brother
You should do more surf fishing when it gets warmer
That fake fly shrimp bait where do you get it ?
Sick vid Makes me wanna get into fly-fishing.... specially for sheep head
Thanks for sharing. Good stuff!!
going to the coast in three weeks what flats are the best to fly fish in
Throwing lures in general is superior because it gets you an aggressive strike because it's moving also you comb and cover more water. Anyways duplicate the best part of fly fishing by downsizing your lure, for instance, right now being late winter and into early spring, in back waters of Galveston bay, fish prefer little tiny shad lures, I'm using white glow shad tandem speck rigs. 8th oz. Kills it.
What size road do you use?
Time to make a travel video! You would love fly fishing Charleston SC. Hit me up if you want to make it happen.
Merry Christmas 🎄
What weight rod are you using?
