    I've always liked Matt, he's got a real down to earth attitude and still very respectful of the guitar gods even when his playing is as good as it is.

      Even a very skillful guitarrist, like Matt or Corey, can't stand a chance on Petrucci, Romeo, Gilbert or Vai.
      I envy Matt, he earned few tips direct from a monster like John... Kkkk

      Nobody is debating who the more experience and acknowledged guitarists are. The comment was about his attitude. He's genuinely coming in with the mentality that he should learn as much as possible, he never became cocky about what he can already do. That's how you become the best. Just look at Tosin Abasi, the difference in his ability between the first album release and now is out of this world even though his playing on the first album was already at a level most professional guitarists never achieve.

    • @PowerVoltaire
      @PowerVoltaire 9 лет назад +8

      Haha lol that's exactly what John Petrucci is trying to tell Matt and everybody, that it's important not to feel like a bad guitar player!!! just go for it and yeah it takes time!!! speaking from my experience, but don't be afraid to jump into sweep picking. You really need to take it seriously and instead of watching tv or play pc, play on your guitar so it becomes a part of YOU ;) if you understand? and if you think it's more important to Watch tv you shouldn't have a guitar!!! I imagine a lot buying guitars, just to be cool, that's not the right way to become good ;)

    i just wanna say to everyone that you would be nervous af if you were sitting there with one of your guitar idols growing up. matt is a great guitarist in his own right and anyone that thinks otherwise is clearly ignorant. of course john is better, he has 20 years on matt, but he was impressed by the one handed arpeggio that matt was doing. i would also like to point out that john went to college for guitar, matt is self taught.

    Think about it: you're a professional musician who's hanging out with one of your idols you looked up to. Wouldn't you feel a bit annoyed that your idol is "Showing off" how amazing he/she is compared to you? Petrucci can absolutely destroy Heafy but he has enough humility and integrity to put aside his ego and give him excellent advice.
