Yeah it's like two albums into the career he's like "Okay, I'm just going to apply for guitar legend status now, is it okay if I turn this in early guys?"
Yeah, Mr. Petrucci is just his own breed. He makes everything look so effortless. "I'm going to play a pentatonic scale, and then turn it into a 7th dimension slide to the 10th power chord with alien sounds."
Love Dream Theater. I saw them live several years ago for an anniversary tour and the one thing that stuck out more than anything was how absolutely effortless John Petrucci makes the most complicated stuff look.
I'm a huge fan from brazil, and i've never been able to see them live. Fortunately they will come to my city on September 2, aka my birthday, on rock in rio! And yes, i'm excited AF for this
Oh yes! That was first ever song I heard from Dream Theater and probably only one I like XD John is an awesome player but the vocals... As a whole Dream Theater is not as good as individuals that make it, which is rare
Usually I'm not a fan of many pauses in a video but when it comes to JP you definitely need to do that so you can take in at least a fraction of his awesomeness
The hollow years solo, specifically from live at budokan, is prob my fav of his. It's got that slow and smooth. The shred. So clean. Back when he was goatee jp vice super beard jp
A very accurate demonstration of the emotions I go through whenever I try and learn a lead of his. He's just the living GOAT right now. Some may outshine him in this area or that here or there, but no one...NO ONE...in this life time is as consistently dropping jaws and delivering the goods as a riff writer AND as a lead guitarist currently working in the biz. He's just that good and he's absolutely earned his status as such. Plus, he's a humble and cool guy, too, which is just the icing on the cake.
The stuff he did on the live album "An Evening With John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess" will be some of my favorite playing from him and music in general. Such beauty and feeling in every note he plays. The song "Truth" off that album is a huge tear jerker aha
Whenever I try to learn any DT song, I'm like "okay, okay, this is bearable, this is not awful..." And then comes the solo. And I'm just like "Nope, thank you, goodbye".
Dude, it's so great to watch your reactions and comments, from a guitar dude to another, yes I agree, fully to every word spoken out of your mouth. The biggest, HOW in guitar history my man! Also, ever since images and words, I already pinned my guitar to my wall and started studying...
Lmao I’m trying to learn the under a glass moon solo and it really makes me appreciate his style. I’m about 90% through, but that hammer-on/pull off tapping part is seriously insane. You need robot like timing to make all those notes ring evenly, and not slur, and have the arpeggios cleanly transition into it, AND it’s a hell of a stretch
My acustic guitar was sitting in the corner watching JP play and fell over, puked up a handfull of lost pics, two beer caps, and a picture of Billie Eilish wearing nothing but a sombrero and a ball gag, then hung itself from my cieling fan...the hummingbird on the picguard flew off and dround itself in the toilet shortly after.
Honor thy father was the ever DT song I learned a 100% and would play like 15 times a day when I was 17. I don't listen much to DT these days but damn if JP isn't gonna be in my top 3 forever and ever. He's a master at his craft.
Please react to hybrid theory tanhayee. I saw these guys live once, they are fucking epic. They are really underrated but you gotta check them out man. Love from India 🇮🇳❤
And John Petrucci's mentor is Steve Morse. Every Dixie Dregs or Steve Morse Band show 1977 to 1990, the front row was guitarists standing slack jawed, eyes wide.
Among other reactions u do, u made this one a really hilarious reaction. Aside from the video content I had real fun listening to those sarcastic words nik. I smile, lmao the whole video alone in my bedroom tonight.
"Oh my arm just cracked....and I'm going to kill you". Probably my favourite quote from a series petrucci did a while back. Psycho exercises i think they were called....
As an epic beard owner i can vouch that much of my awesome power is derived from my beard. So the question of Petrucci's beard making him awesome has been Fact Checked and proven to be True. - Certified Beard Fact Checker
Nik if you really want to keep going down the hole of listening to great guitar players outside of metal. Joe Satriani Steve Vai (more specifically the album sex and religion where 19yr old Devin Townsend is doing vocals) Jeff Beck, album: blow by blow. Amazing song after amazing song. Phil Chen one of the greatest bass players ever, who we lost back in December, is on the album too.
Yooo i was in Vincent Bennetts stream last night when you raided us, so cool of you man, I watch you both regularly and it was awesome to see. I hope you raid or at least come hang out on his stream again cause it's a fun time. He's been trying wicked hard to get partnered and hasn't been able to yet, so that raid meant a lot, love ya for it. For those that don't know, Vincent Bennett is the vocalist of The Acacia Strain, he's streamed on twitch for a little over 2 years now, he goes by VinnyBenny on twitch, if you're a fan of TAS, come on by, his community is great and we'd love to have you.
Honey, My brother Nik Nocturnal I love you for this .. He is my idol (lack for a better term/word) He is my musical father, the god and the deity I worship everyday and I am super proud about it. I feel accomplished living in this timeline where I'm super lucky to listen to this legend, this master My GOD John Petrucci ../\... as a guitar player, I really want to thank you for this video dear brother ../\.. ..A Glasgow Kiss from my family to yours brother .. cheers.
The dude inspecting JP's guitar was at the SweetWater plant as JP did a tour of the place!! He even said JP's guitars are not his style right in front of the legend
Thank you. I've been a Dream Theater fan since 1992. John has created some of the most incredible music and is, imho, the greatest guitarist in the world presently. Chuck Schuldiner of course was amazing and he left us too soon, of course Randy, Guthrie is a God, so I give props to the greats. but every now and then there is a guitarist that you hear and you know it, you can sense it, on a fundamental level that this guy, this one guitarist changes everything. That's John. Please do a reaction for the solo of "Behind the Veil." It is imho the greatest solo ever committed to any media in the history of metal.
The ending section of This Dying Soul….I initially thought it was some studio trickery when I heard it. But when I saw the Live at Budokan video, my jaw just dropped. The synchronization between him and Jordan Rudess is godly. How in the world do you develop such high speed synchronization??
*Smash like for Prog Metal Jesus*

Prog Metal Gsus
Excite prog to the 3rd power 🔥🔥🔥
His economy of motion is untouchable.
You mean Guthrie Govan? :D
I'd just like to remind everyone that Under A Glass Moon is 30 years old and the guy has kept practicing every since. We're all doomed.
He's planning to ascend to godhood, when he already is a god.
and long before. Guitar Jesus John Petrucci will be the first human to ascend.
somebody, someday, will reach guitar Jesus levels, but probably not anytime soon.
that's real dedication (bow)
Looks like I'm a rhythm guitarist from now on😂
Me too
But his rhythms are godlike too.
@@erikheathnat3212 We're doomed then😂
@@jamesflaherty1236 Yes we are.
*already cries in rhythm*
That Under a Glass Moon solo is literally one of my favorite guitar solos ever.
Same, I love that solo
Yeah it's like two albums into the career he's like "Okay, I'm just going to apply for guitar legend status now, is it okay if I turn this in early guys?"
yup
14 year old me: This song is boring.
34 year old me: HOW IS HE DOING ANY OF THIS!?
its like he sat there and decided to use every technique he could, it really is a spectacular solo
Yeah, Mr. Petrucci is just his own breed. He makes everything look so effortless. "I'm going to play a pentatonic scale, and then turn it into a 7th dimension slide to the 10th power chord with alien sounds."
I love JP - but for effortless.... Rick Graham - that guy uses minimal finger movements to legato all over the place!
I still see no refutation in this
Love Dream Theater. I saw them live several years ago for an anniversary tour and the one thing that stuck out more than anything was how absolutely effortless John Petrucci makes the most complicated stuff look.
Great live band
anniversary tour for Awake right? saw them in vancouver, ill never forget.
@@ike7310 actually I saw them open for Iron Maiden
I'm a huge fan from brazil, and i've never been able to see them live. Fortunately they will come to my city on September 2, aka my birthday, on rock in rio! And yes, i'm excited AF for this
His solo stuff is sooo freaking good. No lyrics needed because he sings with the guitar. He's one of a kind.
Hear his solo on Liquid Evolution, from the new LTE3 album. He doesn’t shred here, but the solo is pure eargasm.
The Glass Prison is one of my favorites from DT. So heavy, literally riff heaven. Arpeggio heaven too.
Agree
I have never agreed with a comment more
Not heaven for the one playing it, I can assure you that.
Oh yes! That was first ever song I heard from Dream Theater and probably only one I like XD John is an awesome player but the vocals... As a whole Dream Theater is not as good as individuals that make it, which is rare
Yeah, such a killer song
“It’s jazz. Not wrong notes”
- nik
😂😂
TRUE
Jazz is good. 🎶
it def wasn't wrong notes lol
"There are no wrong notes" (Wooten, Victor)
Usually I'm not a fan of many pauses in a video but when it comes to JP you definitely need to do that so you can take in at least a fraction of his awesomeness
The transpose feature on the Archetype Petrucci is so much fun!
The hollow years solo, specifically from live at budokan, is prob my fav of his. It's got that slow and smooth. The shred. So clean. Back when he was goatee jp vice super beard jp
Can't be the beard Nik. The man was this good when smooth-faced back in the day
My guitar looking at me while saying: "I've never been touched like that. Must be nice"
Sounds like my ex-wife
2:32 That whole jam is just out of this world, specially the Govan part
3:30 Petrucci had soul, and jazz
And his tone by that times, OMG, I loved that tone.
I refuse to believe that Nik hadn't heard Under a Glass Moon until now.
Yeah what a wank.
He talks absolute crap
"Guitar weeps" ... lol never heard of chorus effects ? 😅
There’s a difference between hearing it and seeing it.
A very accurate demonstration of the emotions I go through whenever I try and learn a lead of his.

Petrucci is one of my favorite guitarists of all time.
Under the glass moon solo, both guitar and piano 🎹 parts just hooked me for days. I couldn’t believe the creativity
The stuff he did on the live album "An Evening With John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess" will be some of my favorite playing from him and music in general. Such beauty and feeling in every note he plays. The song "Truth" off that album is a huge tear jerker aha
Yes! Truth is so underrated and sad almost no one knows about it, his two solos on it are fantastic
A couple of those isolated tracks were from Constant Motion by Dream Theater. Such an awesome song.
Too bad the album wasn't good
You should try every solo on Petrucci’s Suspended Animation album.
john is the god and all notes weeps for him and you need to bow down to the God
Petrucc is just such a god... Definetly my #1 inspiration that made me ultimately pick up the electric guitar. Man, I love that dude...
I hear Petrucci's arpeggios are so clean they clean 99.9% of the bacteria
Can u ever do a video of your guitars ? I would love that 🤘🏻
I second this notion.
Years ago i have seen JP live on stage. He was on a G3 tour with Vai and Satriani. Best guitar concert I've ever seen.
*insert jealousy here*
No man can have the beard or the guitar skills of John Petrucci.
Then John Petrucci is a deity confirmed
6:43: This guy went to theory class made me laugh so hard😹😹
The solo from "Repentance" is fun to play. So much soul to it
John is my hero
Lmao I’m trying to learn the under a glass moon solo and it really makes me appreciate his style. I’m about 90% through, but that hammer-on/pull off tapping part is seriously insane. have you heard him playing purple rain when he was in the nethterlands about 25 years ago when he and MP did this clinic tour? it's beyond awesome...
"do a dream theater cover" "NO!" lmao
If John Petrucci went to a dragstrip, it would turn into a road course.
JP is a true master. This video was a lot of fun to watch. Nice work!
At the end was pretty funny. Great video NN.
Petrucci is pretty much metal Jesus, also his solo in that first video had definitely Floyd/David Gilmour vibes and it was quite nice
🤣
Hahahahahaha! That was great
You should have known better. I dont let any of my guitars watch Petrucci videos for that very reason.
Before there was RUclips, John Petrucci was the only guitarist I cared about. Images & Words taught me how to play guitar.
petrucci is a legend, in my opinion the best of all time!
The gushing is stupendous... I don't blame you one bit!!😁

Thanks for raiding the VB stream yesterday we appreciate you and your videos
Hollow Years solo live at Budokan is to this day my all time favorite guitar clip.
I actually ran into John Petrucinni at LA fitness gym once. He was doing bicep curls. I swear to god this is a real story.

Please, Nik. I've been watching your videos for years. You can totally play any of these licks.
"When I play pentatonic it don't sound like that, it sounds like I'm pissing off everyone in guitar center"... I felt that in my soul

John Petrucci’s pinky is like a mob boss in a movie. It stays back until it’s absolutely needed. When it shows up, it’s over.

Well done Nik. You're doing the lords work Spreading the message of our lord and savior John Petrucci.

He is a true master. Period.
Please make this a series on different guitarists! Too funny
Nik, there was a Petrucci's guitar class in VHS from the 90's, that some dude voiced over him. You should react to it!!!

Jeff Zwart, he's from the Netherlands, also an awesome player like John
His tone sounds a lot like old (and maybe current?) Satriani stuff. Nice and warm boogie shit. Totally transported me to the late 80s.

"Devout Christian reacts to Jesus Christ"
5:00 the funniest part of the video🤣🤣🤣🤣 love it bro 💯🔥🔥🔥
John Petrucci + Ibanez = Heavenly Sounds
