I love the level of respect Matt has, they are both such talented humble dudes. Last albums from both bands total masterpieces. Matt just keeps getting stronger from album to album and John just blows me away on every album when I think he has reached God level, he goes beyond, always.

Wow really? You think that guitar players who comment on RUclips are the "most critical and caustic OF ALL PEOPLE". Well I think you are a dumb shit for making that comment. I think I can find a few different groups of people commenting on RUclips that are a bit more critical and caustic than guitar players. Lets see, Dems/Reps, Social Justice Warriors, Snowflakes, terrorist, college professors, Black Lives Matter, just a few off the top of my head. Leave fucking guitar players alone.
Rock Discipline is a great book. I'm a guitar teacher and teach some of my students from it. John is a hell of a teacher and guitarist. His books and DVDs really helped my style and practice habits through the years. Anyone who is at a stale sticking point on guitar and are frustrated. Should get gis lessons. You really will improve.
While I can not speak to trivium as I am unfamiliar with them John is a phenomenal guitarist. Music is supposed to take you on a journey, it allows you to express your self. Just enjoy where it goes. If you don't care for his style fine. There is no need to be rude about it.
True. My definition of emo is pop arranged for bands instruments and screaming, which I have heard in trivium. but I did find the most badass, twisted harmony I've ever heard by them, something I forgot in my last comment.
I use my thumb with a bit of wrist up to around Petrucci speed in this video and then strict elbow for faster speeds. No tension, accurate and my thumb and wrist recover. Helps when you're playing live.
The student and the teacher- I can see a sparkle in Matts Eyes. I'd love to learn from the Petrucci, one of earth's most versatile and technical guitarist.
Theodore G. Wallace So you're saying that piece of shit Sorceress was better than that early 2000s masterpiece Hypnotize? You're havin' a laugh, aren't ye?
Thiago Loureiro Then you put Shawn Lane next to them and it makes Petrucci look like a beginner and Heafy look like someone who has never picked up a guitar.

It's a good thing I started with black metal, so Tremolo picking on any string at any point in a riff, is the only thing I'm good at. Thank you Windir. Rip Valfar
John says you should not change the technique when you increase the speed. But at 3:30 you can see him doing the fast picking with a different angle. This is probably correct (see "cracking the code"), but he seems to be unaware?
I believe John Petrucci was just stating the picking technique he is comfortable with. He even says in the video that he is a firm believer that there are several different ways of playing.
Matt was looking like a little kid looking at his hero. I know this experience was out of this world for him.
Read this comment and i couldnt stop laughing because he basically is a little kid with his idol :D hahaha
He looks so nervous he started talking fast hahaha

He had a major back issue not too long ago, so that’s one of his main reasons for being so into fitness within the last 5 years or so.
wcr4 no. That's him in every video he is sitting in and playing guitar Or even playing games in his twitch streams. Also, that's the RIGHT pose.
Just noticed that
