Muhammad Alwy F He is not just a guitar god, he IS God. His grace is the reason we live today, we exist because John Petrucci allows us to exist. Oh Lord Petrucci, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in the studio!
People make things so difficult. Dude was giving the kid a moment and a small lesson nothing more or less. Nice of JP to take a moment to inspire. The rest is babble of comments. Bless musicians who share the stage and some wisdom.
This is so many kids dreams coming true for that lucky kid. Petrucci is got to be the coolest rockstar on this planet. Such a humble and cool dude. I literally dreamed of jamming with Petrucci. This is awesome.
This kid is good. Yes, he hasn't been studying chords and scales, but he has a good sense of musicality and timing. His technique is pretty damn solid and he is obviously a fast learner. In 5 years time or less he can have all that theory down and he will be more than good to go.
I've met John at his shows and he is just like this and what makes him not just a great guitarist/musician, but a great guy as well. What an amazing gift for that kid and for us having seen it.
People have to realize no matter what skill level you are, if you're heart is racing, your whole body's nervous system is affected. If this kid was truly in semi shock his thoughts, and hand-eye co-ordination would be well off. In the past before I managed to be more calm, in pressure situation in music I played about 50% to my abilities. You'd finish and think "who the fuck was that just playing, it wasn't me that was horrible". Also people when they are jamming and relaxed they will not be scared to try really complicated playing, but when you're nervous around a guitar idol, cameras AND an audience you will try play simpler stuff so you don't screw up. What I am trying to say it, nerves can totally transform you to a bad player. However with time you will/should come to learn to control them.
I'm switching from stand up bass to electric guitar, I know a decent amount of theory but god damn the treble clef is a bitch. To see John be so kind and patient with that kid is a true show of how good of a person John really is
Hey Andrew, I discussed the Idea with Joshua several times days before we went to the clinic. Joshua lives to play guitar and will jam with anybody but he is a big fan of DreamTheater and John Petrucci and he did not want to miss a opportunity to play guitar with John so he did what he had to do and it payed off. Hey if you could really hear Joshua play you would be surprised at his ability and his talent I hear him everyday and I know what he can do with a guitar. Thanks Andrew!
That is just awesome!! I love the last bit in the e minor section where the kid kind of forgets all about rythm cause he's tripping about playing with petrucci! Fantastic experience for him
Rhine Horn it is not staged the kids dad raised his hand and said my son wats to jam with you someday...john asked if he had a guitar with him and he did he just came from his lesson, and john brought him up
kevin kyle Sweeth mother... of course I know this. I was just referring to the first comment and the fact that this kid had taken 1(!) lesson from John and Rhine felt the kid was already better than him. I was trying to make a joke... apparently I failed epically.
wow this is really amazing, i'm really proud to know that Petrucci is so nice to fans, i'm a big fan of Petrucci he is most likely my favourite guitarist, but it would really suck if he was a jerk with his fans. Even with the kid struggling to do an E minor chord he had the patience and kindness of teaching him. It must have been an unforgetable moment for him, how lucky.
I know what it feels like to be in that kids position. Did this very thing with steve vai when i was 15....still remember everything form that day and all that he taught me at a clinic in DC
Hey Kevin, Thanks for the comment and thanks to everyone else and there comments we live down on the far East Side of Indianapolis and we are getting Josh out and going to find a place for him to plug in and jam today. I wish we could see the rest of the video where Josh and John play lead and rhythm for each other. Thanks again everyone if you know anyone who would like to get together and jam with Josh we are available.
What bugs me about people who try to discourage you from learning theory is when they say it'll make you a soulless player who sticks to rules all the time. There are no "rules" in music. Theory is an understanding of how music works. It can only benefit you to learn.
I honestly think that Petrucci's tone sounds better here strait into the amp with maybe a bit of delay rather than his enormous rack, but maybe its just me. That Mesa mark V does sound insane though! cant wait to get myself one, one of these decades haha.
hey dan nice to meet you...he is a great kid awesome that this went down for him...i had only seen this one other time and it was with joe satriani at sweetwater with a young guy who wanted to know how joe held his pick and did pinch harmonics... tell your son i said bravo!!! and feel free to snag this video and use it on your pages
was it your idea or Josh's idea to ask to play with John. Either way im glad it payed off for him. He's really talented for his age. And its great that John is willing to do stuff like this.
Who agrees that JP is one of the best electric guitar players ever?
everyone..😁
HeHoZy he is a guitar god
Muhammad Alwy F He is not just a guitar god, he IS God. His grace is the reason we live today, we exist because John Petrucci allows us to exist. Oh Lord Petrucci, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in the studio!
I would disagree wit that cos he's the best guitar player ever.
i guess it's kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good site to watch new series online ?
John petrucci is your tech LOOOLL!
Yngwie regularly watches this video for guitar lessons...
kid has insane guts....a mere mortal takes the stage next to a god....
People make things so difficult. Dude was giving the kid a moment and a small lesson nothing more or less. Nice of JP to take a moment to inspire. The rest is babble of comments. Bless musicians who share the stage and some wisdom.
was thinkin the same thing. like damn, just let the kid have his moment n quit bein dicks.
"john petrucci is your tech.! " im dead 😂😂😂😂
John Petrucci is truly a nice guy.. not everyone would be so kind and patient in a situation like this..
Kid sounded like he was pretty good, then JP started playing :)
E minor chords and phrygian mode : those are very useful in metal.
This is so many kids dreams coming true for that lucky kid. Petrucci is got to be the coolest rockstar on this planet. Such a humble and cool dude. I literally dreamed of jamming with Petrucci. This is awesome.

3 years now. I hope he's stuck at it.
He's just a genuinely nice guy.
What a down to earth guy John is!
"John Petruccis your tech" lol
Very cool of JP to give a clinic and allow the kid to join him for a lesson. :)
So cool. Kid has more balls than me being up there with the mighty JP. I probably would've peed myself. A little.
Love petruccis soloing man , the guy is the beast on guitar...
I've met John at his shows and he is just like this and what makes him not just a great guitarist/musician, but a great guy as well. What an amazing gift for that kid and for us having seen it.
"My minions are going strong.." Its like the voice from LOTR haha..

Every time I see JP in a video he seems like one of the nicest, most approachable guys ever to pick up a guitar.
That was very kind of JP! And damn, this boy got balls to ask JP if he can play with him!!! :D
RESPECT!
I've always liked Petrucci, and it's because of videos like these.
JP was the super nicest guitarist, he even dont mind post a videos playing Frozen song with his daughter...
A master giving a talented young player the experience of a lifetime - what is not to love about this?
JP is a real class act. I hope he knows how many people he's mentored from afar over the years. This was a really cool thing to see.
And that kid grew up to be Synyster Gates. Dreams really do come true.
+Shane H but that kid is actually good
Jesus..that bit at the end where he was playing rhythm for John must have been the coolest thing ever
John explains it so well!
I'm switching from stand up bass to electric guitar, I know a decent amount of theory but god damn the treble clef is a bitch. To see John be so kind and patient with that kid is a true show of how good of a person John really is

id be nervous too in person is bad enough but in front of thousands of people...yikes
there was only a couple of hundered of us there
What a great man john is
I think john is a prince for doing that.. that kid will never forget that.
That kid is already better than me. I hate my life.
He´s been taking lessons from JP mate... no worries.
Ah so its staged
Rhine Horn it is not staged the kids dad raised his hand and said my son wats to jam with you someday...john asked if he had a guitar with him and he did he just came from his lesson, and john brought him up
Jakob Strand no he takes lessons at sweetwater and his dad brought him into the seminar
kevin kyle Sweeth mother... of course I know this. I was just referring to the first comment and the fact that this kid had taken 1(!) lesson from John and Rhine felt the kid was already better than him. I was trying to make a joke... apparently I failed epically.

John is such a monster and he seems like a really nice guy too!!!

all he does is play the minor scale and I'm like "Thats amazing thats amazing thats amazing!"
Wow.....
GOD Petrucci is teaching ...
Shows up to a lesson with arguably the world's best guitarist
Wearing socks and sandals
Disrespect!
He's so lucky to get lessons from hin😭😭😭😭❤❤❤
Bravo John, we need more people like you
Wow. Petrucci is a class act.
if there ever was a god, john petrucci fits the bill. his music theory knowledge is incredible!
well one thing is for shure he will never forgot how to play the e minor bar chord ever again :D
My minions are growing stronger xD gotta love JP. Respect!
if jp was my tech......nevermind.
Hey Kevin,
Thanks for the comment and thanks to everyone else and there comments we live down on the far East Side of Indianapolis and we are getting Josh out and going to find a place for him to plug in and jam today. What a nice guy!!
Petrucci is a master of not only technique, but of note selection. The kid sounds like he'll be the next Mike Varney. (spell check)
People gotta go easier on the kid. At least he's TRYING to learn theory. It takes time, but good on him.
JP is one of most humble musician, I never see that's on other big musician
Yeah it is!! But why Mr. Petrucci wouldn't do this? :D
He is among the nicest guys there is in the industry, just like the rest of the band.
What bugs me about people who try to discourage you from learning theory is when they say it'll make you a soulless player who sticks to rules all the time. There are no "rules" in music. Theory is an understanding of how music works. It can only benefit you to learn.
Its really ridiculous to see all the negative comments down below criticizing the kid, like really..
John petrucci is your tech...😂
Is it weird that I like Deathcore, AND I understand everything that JP is talking about?
John Petrucci is a god and a gentleman. All hail Petrucci
Kid is a good rhythm player too!
Kid is so lucky
What the hell .. how does one get to be on stage with JP and score a bit of a lesson from the master ???
he raised his hand and asked him if he could play with him and john said you got your guitar with you..kid said yea..he said go get it and lets play
awesome. Dream come true. Good for you Brotha
they talk to tina s
Cause John's a nice guy
The kids was in Dream Theater. Lol
trooch is a boss. such class.
be john petrucci`s rythem guitarist is the dream
If jp started soloing over my riff like that I would have passed out on stage
For reference: Em is E F# G A B C D E, the E phrygian dominant is E F G# A B C D, and the E phrygian minor E F G A B C D.
Awesome... it just exploded, phrygian everywhere.
Enjoyed this video! All the best!!
JP sounds like a really nice guy haha
Yeah John Petrucci is my amp tech.
"my minions are growing stronger" lmao
Petrucci fixing the data dump on the amp.
Petrucci's tooooonnnnnnneeeee. I need that
2:05 us as people right now listening to DT and JP music: "What the hell"
no problem ... john petrucci show you
I honestly think that Petrucci's tone sounds better here strait into the amp with maybe a bit of delay rather than his enormous rack, but maybe its just me. That Mesa mark V does sound insane though! cant wait to get myself one, one of these decades haha.
John Petrucci is this kid's tech lol
good job kid....
2:53 I like how the cameraman teleports just to give us a lot of variety in the video.
What a hero
I'm so jealous of this kid XD
very true..nice dude
damn u jp for being so good.
I am not bitter at all. One day I hope to be in Joshua's position.
Awesome!!
hey dan nice to meet you...he is a great kid awesome that this went down for him...i had only seen this one other time and it was with joe satriani at sweetwater with a young guy who wanted to know how joe held his pick and did pinch harmonics... tell your son i said bravo!!! and feel free to snag this video and use it on your pages
Thank you very much for posting this man. Petrucci is really a nice guy. Could you please upload the hole clinic?
Lucky bastard.
If i got to play with John Petrucci I doubt i'd be able to do a e minor too. To starstruck.
Damn, that is not what my minor scale sounds like!
To gear geeks? My deepest condolences..
John Petrucci can fart and his minions will applaud. I just find it so amusing that anything JP does and his fanboys go gaga lol:-)
awesome!
Always wondered what scale that was!
This is so nice
Should be required to know how to play an e minor to share the stage with this boss
Looks like jp dont have a problem with that..
I've been asking JP to give me a lesson or a tip for decades and no reply! I guess I'm the ugly girl at the dance... ILL NEVER BE PROM QUEEN!! 😩😩😩😩
was it your idea or Josh's idea to ask to play with John. Either way im glad it payed off for him. He's really talented for his age. And its great that John is willing to do stuff like this.
I would kiss his feet
awsooome man
