Yeah it's not a step by step video because that would easily take close to an hour to explain all the small things I have to do but I hope the main concept came across and you at least found it entertaining!
Thanks bro! I'm curious on how the dissapearing works, please bear with a noob here: Shouldn't we see just a "hole" where the green sleeve is? Why do we see ur body or the room?
Very cool indeed! How long did the whole thing take from start to finish including rendering time? That is one hell of an awesome effect on a budget, it's pretty much flawless and better than even some of the rushed Hollywood CGI. Well done! And nice post-production editing too.
That's really cool I want to get into the 3d software more I've tried it it's just time that I need to spend I always stop learning. I use element 3d but that's limited to things. Great video
this was awesome. I got the whole compositing part in after effects but Im stuck on the animation of the arm. Im doing a similar effect with a hand on fire. I have the 3d model of the hand but Im stuck when it comes to matching the movement of the live action hand. i have the tracking data for the hand already for the compositing aspect. do I hand animate the hand moving in cinema or MAX? is that the only way? Thanks.
Brilliant! So would Blender work too for the arm? 'Cause I'm more familiar with that software. I haven't heard of 3Ds Max until now, but I'll check it out!
probably tracking and roto work was the main issue here. the arm seems to clip through and float throughout the video. Also, the starting part could see your previous arm shadow on your body even though there's no arm there. Good job on the color blending and animation tho!
would you mind let us know what software u have used to make that robotic arm....is that 3ds max?? if yes? pls let us know step by step on tracking and other edits as well...awesome video btw.. ;-)
Where you use the white marking on forearm how you get information from it to link it with the arm rotation and which software you use to track the hand ?? I have a problem with tracking things and how to link it ,, you do a great job and very nice and awesome modeling ,, you need only to color correct the arm reduce the saturation a little bit tint it to orange color to match the environment and grade it by giving it some brightness ,, good luck you are superhero 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Hi! Great video! I have a question: how did you solve the problem with object being seen through the gaps of the robotic hand? Id assume the background can be shot separately, but what about the objects behind the keyed out hand, like the body? Why isn't is a "hole" but everything behind the keyed out hand is still visible? Thank you!
Correct! You got it. I had to film myself, then move off screen and film the background. I can fill im the gaps that removing the green leaves with the background or t-shirt i filmed.
I also got a still shot of my shirt as a base plate but I wore a black shirt on purpose. It was easy to just create a black solid color and it matched well enough. :)
@@3DSage Genius, thanks for explaining! I am currently doing VFX shots of objects standing still and reflecting an HDRI I make on the spot. Currently working on a shot where a part of pavement is motion tracked and projection painted so it matches the surrounding pavement perfectly and then I simulate some of the bricks popping out of the ground.

The white glue markers are great for tracking in 3D and in 2D after effects. They give me a good reference point to see how much my arm and hand have rotated so I can match the 3D rendered arm. And since they are white, the keying in After Effects can mask them away easily. So there are many benefits.
@@tasoluka4502 After effects can handle 3D objects and 3D coordinates so yes but it would be difficult to animate. But if you try it I would love to see it!

I’m doing a 48 hour film challenge in Cleveland, Oh and am searching for a supremely talented VFX artist. All roads led me here! Please let me know if you’d be interested/available. This Saturday the 13th. :) cheers
on nice! I love film races. That would be fun but unfortunately this took me longer than a couple days. VFX in film races is very rare since it takes time to plan, render, composite, and export. Good luck on your film and post a link!
I see.. Was wondering how they do it in hollywood movies? For example Cable from Deadpool 2? Is one layer enough and they just replace the arm in each shot with a metal one?
Usually, whenever you can see the background through an arm or leg, the director has to film a base plate with the same camera movement so the vfx team can show that footage behind the arm.
@@taelongx I know it would suck to do this for a fast paced 40+ cut scene but that is what they have to do in Hollywood movies. Every shot even if it's 0.2 seconds needs to be worked on.

May I know how did you motion tracked you arm for moving the cg arm or you manually keyframed the animation of the cg arm.
I was able to use the built in tracker within After Effects to get it close but then yes I had to manually keyframe to get it just right.
did motion track your shirt and the wall ?
My shirt barely moves so i was able to keyframe the shirt patch. And the background stays in place.

Kind of. I used the tracker in After Effects but I still went through each frame after to make sure it all looks good. Sometimes you have to in VFX
